- BANNED Race Cars.
This video is showing you the Top 5 banned race cars based on their racing potential.
This Video contains: Can Am racing car, F1 cars, Turbine engine F1 cars, Fan Engine F1 Cars, and Rally Cars.
Some of this banned Racing cars were not fully banned, but some systems and innovations that they have been using.
Some of the decisions to ban this racing cars were made to reduce the costs for the other team, some just for safety reasons.
And last but not least, because they were simply too OVERPOWERED.
This Top 5 Banned race cars video is based on my opinion.

BANNED Race Cars

What topic would you like to see next?
@Walker Jaziel stfu
Most hated race cars?!
I understand banning cheating and bad unreliable cars, but banning technology advancements just doesn't make sense.
A good read for sure, brings more of the reasoning behind it.
That would fall into my unreliable category though.
I still think the technology could have been improved.
I'm not an expert on the matter though.
Pop's How To's advancements and innovation are a double edged sword. while you end up with some incredible cars, it leaves very few teams actually competitive because only those with high budgets for R&D actually make those innovations.
Doktor Hachi Roku because it was probably written when even the author didn't fully understand about it.
the problem is that there's a squishy thing inside the car called a human, and we don't want it to die, so we limit the speed and acceleration of the car.
Nice Profile Picture lol
And now it's time to build the car with jet engine, suction fans, 4WD, and active suspension....:)
Give this person a job!
And CVT gear
Talks about 1994-2000 Toyota Celica , only shows video of the 89-93 model.
Imagine AWD F1 cars with active suspensions and a fan in the back like the BT46B....
+Dr. Bananable Lector Yeah..would be massive G-Force...insane
Dr. Bananable Lector I would like to see that.
And a turbine engine
Dr. Bananable Lector and a dildo.
Guy Guyson Would be a bit heavy
Damned desk jockies and their stupid rules!
We need a new format for auto racing: Build whatever you can to win! No rules at all.
Michael Bishop no rules means the return of those design ideas which is fine by me ha ha.
it would be ridiculous, I imagine the first race having a moped and a buggati Chiron
you mean a moped with a bugatti chiron engine
next thing you know someones put 2 jet engines on a lambo and calls it: PURE SPEED
Nah some rules
Max tire width of 405 mm tires and 8l engine displacement
One engine maximum and it must be a ice engine
If u can't beat it ban it
^ Porsche in 2004 about M3 GTR
The Nissan Skyline GTR R32. Group A sedan racing.
Mazda 787b
427 SOHC only NASCAR engine banned even before racing it
@@rayologyxm You mean the car which had to cheat its way to its only win. Ha ha ha ha ......
Toyota Celica=lightest car in the world....just 75kg LOL
Vincent Kecer LoL it should be 4 KG per BHP! :)
Bloody cheats!
No it was 1.230 kg
5:20 I said Heyyyyaayyyhhyeehh I said hey! a what's goin on!
I really a little peculiar

F1's radio music
I immediately though of He-Man when I heard that xD
That Chapparal 2J - beautiful engine but the car itself looks like it was made from a old garbage bin 😂
ABW true
Looks Unsuspecting, makes it easier to pass people in
When you had as much down-force as the 2J generated, an aesthetic looking body was an after thought. Had it not been banned, Jim Hall would probably have had a sleek looking chassis in '71.
Part of it's appearance was necessitated by the car needing flat vertical surfaces so the attached skirts could move with the suspension. Another was Chaparral was one of the first to figure out that boxy shapes can be aerodynamic. The '67 Chaparral 2F wouldn't look out of place in a lineup of LeMans prototypes from the 80's & 90's.
Looks like I might have touched a nerve here for a few. 😂 I don't mind and understand but you can't honestly say it's a pretty looking vehicle!
Love the Williams FW14b, sounds incredible, looks awesome, great F1 car. I remember reading that Mansel liked it because it suited his aggressive driving style, and that he could throw it into a corner and trust it to do what it had to do. Ricardo Patrese apparently didn't like it so much because he had a more delicate driving style, and preferred to be able to "feel" his way around the corners. Definitely my favourite F1 era.
So creativity is punished...
+The TopicGuy For sure, thats happend with Red Bull and their diffusor.
What expect, same like Honda NSX race car, that car is soo good in corners so someone say all racing NSX must have 50Kg more weight for balance..
yea it is, track racing is mostly about skill and all the cars should be limited to only so much power and down force and all that but all the cars are only just behind the limit by a hair so they are all basicly the same and when you come up with something ingenius that gives you a big edge its cheating i guess, thats how they see it, that fan car was way overpowered but what they should have done is just barely won like 9 out of 10 races and they probably would have been fine
I disagree. The fact of the matter is, is that the cars were produced, meaning the creativity happened. Them being banned doesn't punish creativity, it just keeps people from shamelessly copying a potentially good idea.
Plus, what's a better way to induce creativity than some strict rules forcing engineers to thing outside the box for improvements?
FlyingWldAlaska77 watching racing to see who's got more skill is boring as hell. Welcome to NASCAR. It's not about the cars anymore..
In Australia the CAMS and the Touring Car Championship effectively banned the Nissan GTR and ended the era of Group racing by mandating V8 engines .The IL6T engine with 4WD on the GTR won Bathurst by a country mile in 1991 and 1992. When the lead driver Jim Richards got onto the podium, the crowd were booing him. Jim famously responded by saying "You're all a pack of arseholes". Authorities changed the rules and turbos (inc the Ford Sierra) were banned for the 1993 season in favour of V8's (i.e. it became a Ford vs Holden championship). Turbo 4 and 6 cyl engines will be allowed back into the series from 2018
Deano 1978 really??? 😂😂 if Nissan comes out with an R36, the whole competition would be screwed 😂😂💀💀
Does anyone remember the 2j from gran turismo
$20 million, and the Toyota Minolta was still a better car.
i started with a miata, eventially got a nissan skyline maxed out, then the suzuki escudo, then some f1 car
i play the special condition event , costa di amalfi. I win the race then i sold the Toyota RSC . I repeat that until i got 3 mil. Then, i buy the 787B
MK1-8EV 6 And also the 2 Toyota Celice GT4 :)
I remember reading the history of that car in GT PSP, its quite sad because the car banned from the race
What were they thinking?! Trying to make their cars go faster... It's not like it's a race or something... oh wait...
Perhaps one day there'll be a racing class that's truly unlimited.
And everyone who tries to race in it will die within 5 years. You want something like that ?
Doktor Hachi Roku what happened in group B and what was it really? (sorry, im kinda new in cars)
Doktor Hachi Roku damn, any good documentary you'd recommend me to watch?
Doktor Hachi Roku damn, how do I start?
Doktor Hachi Roku thanks for your attention, I'll search about them, I really like cars, but I don't know much, I like cars mainly because I grew up playing Gran Turismo, but I haven't played since years ago, and back then I was too little to understand all the complex stuff about cars
Imagine F1 with AWD, Active suspension, AND suction fan downforce.
Lit.
r32 godzilla banned from the australian supercar series back in the 90's. the v8 lovers couldnt handle their asses being handed to them by a smaller car.
Stopped watching Aussie motor sport when it became just Holden & Ford V8 supercars!
One word; BORING!
because twin turbo and awd. v8 non turbo
AND I SAY
HEEYYAYYYYAYYAYYAYY
I SAY HEY

I try all the time...
Great vid. I shall look for more on the items featured. Thanks for the nudge.
Great video, hope to see part two soon
02:34 4bhp per kg? lol that would be insane tho! Anyways, great video, mate
Those who innovate and are successful seem to always find themselves being delegated to the ranks of being cheaters. I find that the envious are usually the first people who scream, "Cheat", if someone is crafty enough to use the existing rules to their best advantage. The only real crime to cheating is being blatantly caught.
i agree 100%.... i find rules oppressive and often think we should not obey any rules.. like if you are going to race me in say a Ford mustang... and i can sneak in a engine from a F1 car why shouldn't i be able to do that? yes it would guarantee i'd always beat you .. but it would be fair right cause in the end i am driving a ford mustang.. although it has a engine from a F1 car in it... you wouldn't mind always losing would you.... lol dumbass
@@sc-sp4cm His comment is a year old.. Also you made the comparison of changing a whole engine rather than innovating pre-existing parts of the car which doesn't make the two even remotely comparable.
its not cheating you idiot, nobody thinks its cheating. its just that its impractical to have such technologies available in a competitive sport.
Really enjoyed the quality of the video!! Soo interesting!
Very good video, with all (and only ) the necessary information!
Haha 5:18 the music. All I could think of is He Man.
Same, but get this. After hearing that, I pulled up the He-man vid with the song, and just as it was getting going with they heyayayayay bit, my roommate came home. I was kinda drunk and high, so i was like "oh shit! check this out, I just got reminded of this!" so she comes over, all drunk and shit, and I start to play the vid, then she's like "hey Adam come in here and see this!" she had brought some dude home from the bar, I didn't realize, and his name just so happened to be Adam, and he didn't think that shit was funny at all. But i'm LMFAO!
question does Smokey yunick get his own video? acid bath cars to lose weight, larger fuel lines to hold more fuel and so on " if you aren't cheating you aren't trying" was his motto
Youre a smokey eunuch!🤣
The CVT also was tested in the F1 once and banned because it made the car a few seconds faster each lap
*NEW VIDEO IS UP, CHECK IT OUT*
ua-cam.com/video/QlPBOdALJ6c/v-deo.html
anyone remember when F1 used to sound good and was innovative and diverse? Yea, I miss those days..
considering that most of these competitions are really there to showcase performance innovations (not as much the drivers), it is in my opinion complete bs to ban any car modes which make for more performance. furthermore, if these innovations are copied by others - more power for damn near everyone in the end, for instance to all consumers once these new inventions make it to mass production so ... wtf? its competition of technologies but theres some commitee making sure its all about even ... can we have an anti-nascar where nothing is banned and it is actually about who made the fastest car and driven it the fastest?
Dan Daman "How hard is it to push pedals really."
Judging by the driving abilities I see on a daily basis, extremely.
I think you greatly underestimate what it takes to race. At any given moment you are facing death with only your skill and reaction time to rely on. Most people don't see driving lines like racers do. Hitting the right line is much more important than just pushing pedals and turning the wheel around corners.
"...how hard is it to steer and push pedals really" I really hope you don't actually drive! Because those are the words of a complete idiot.
lol i knew some of yall will pick out the small sarcastic remark in a huge rant of a statement, and pick on it - dats why i put it there, to stir it up! yes it obviously takes skill to drive fast, but technological advances make it possible for just about anyone with a faster car to win over slower car, and also consider that the increased introduction of AI to aid operating motor vehicles will likely make driving skillfully a thing of the past soon ... it wont stop performance tech innovations though, so in my mind the reason certain innovations are banned is for making racing about driver skill as much as about car performance- i just wish they didnt because banning these from tacetracks slows or even stops these great ideas from making it into the general production cars
Firebrand i drive like a complete idiot every day! i also know how to drive a bicycle and that actually takes more skill and determination and - riding one on public road - luck, then driving a car
Caddy Guy Gaming while ive never been on a racetrack, i have been speeding enough times to appreciate my own limited skill and experience going through corners as opposed to just turning into one, but .. its just driving a car in the end, anyone physically able should be ok to drive fast after some training and experience ... it should take a certain mindset to be a professional race car driver though, not everyone wants to take chances to just to find out who can drive around corners faster
That camera flip and catch was great in the beginning 😂
didn't know any of this. adding to favorites:)
You completely forgot audi quattro in the Trans Am series. They had seemingly inferior engines with rather small displacement and less horsepower than the competition but they still drove circles around all of the conventional RWD american cars and won their races. the only thing that could stop them was the ban of all wheel drive.
+horseunknown TDC More parts are coming^^
ik, they even tried restricting their tire size and horsepower. but that didnt stop audi from winning
Then Audi took the Quattro to the IMSA GTO series and still won although its closest rival there was the Nissan 300ZX.
The background music at 5:24 lol
The Williams was not banned: the technology was banned in 1994. The situation with the Lotus 88. That was a car that was banned.
Nice video, not just a slideshow of photos, actual info and reasons of the prohibition. BTW 5:02 song ;)
Forgot Tyrrell P34, the F1 With 6 wheels
+Frederico Plantz There will be a Part 2, otherwise the Video would be too long
They didn't ban it, they stopped using 6 wheels because how terrible the understeer was.
@@borninpennsylvania3908 6 wheel configurations were banned.
@@dragondaze Long after the P34.
6 wheel configurations were banned when the teams came up with the idea of four rear tyres. Too much traction was available.
Motor sports: the only sport to punish you for being too good
Can't wait part 2.
The Brabham simply wasn't banned ...
I want a replica Toyota Celica GT just like this rally one! I'd drive it every day.
There could be the "F-Zero" (Higher than F1 but with an awesome name haha) racing category, with no car regulamentation, no limitations, just pure technology and creativity :P
If some overpowered car show up, try to make a better copy, or something different and even better, it would be awesome.
PrimoCurby only limit-3.2l engine
USAC- The United States Auto Club did ban 4-wheel drive after the '68 500 but merely restricted the turbines annular opening to such a degree that made in uncompetitive.
The issue with the Toyota Celica, it wasn’t a innovation. It was just cheating. They bypassed the restrictor plates. It was a genius solution, but still cheating.
restrictor plates
What about the Plymouth Superbird / Dodge Daytona 500? NASCAR banned them for being too fast!
+Boat Axe There will be a Part 2, otherwise the Video would be too long
Dodge Daytona*
The winged cars weren't banned. What Nascar did was raise the minimum number of cars produced to qualify for homologation, (from 500 to 2000 cars produced) and limit the "specials" to 305 cubic inch motors. This effectively made Ford's Torino Talladega, Mercury's Cyclone Spoiler, Dodge's Charger Daytona and Plymouth's Superbird noncompetitive, but the cars weren't banned outright.
if i remember right they raced
Boat Axe yeah! the first thing came to my mind was superbird.
8:33 never officially banned ::) Berni wanted to be in charge of F! so he bowed to the pressure from the teams and removed it,, can u image at Monaco where normal down force is limited by the slow track ^^
You are correct Sir!
cool vid love it thanks
GTR Skyline in the Australian Touring Cars, rather than ban the car they knew they wouldnt beat for the next 10 years they changed the rules so only V8's could race, so not technically banned but they had to change the rules to outlaw it

I still love the st205 celica gt4
After beating the crap out of all in the Group A sedan series the Nissan Skyline GTR R32 was banned. The car that started the nickname "Godzilla".
Fun fact: there's one of those lotus turbine cars at the Indianapolis international airport.
Perfect race car: Turbine + Fan + Active Suspension + 4WD + CVT
no CVT for me, thanks. 😆
At this point in motorsports we really need an unregulated league/chapter/race/whatever (with minimal rules minus the obvious purposeful collision and tech that has the potential to cause harm to other racers/vehicles.)something where the engineers can go crazy.
nice video sir
Nissan gtr got banned in Australia from group A racing in the early 90s too fast too much tech
Too good!
Tbf it had no business in Group A. It was a thoroughbred, awd turbo-ed GT car up against street cars with some race upgrades.
I absolutely despised them beating my beloved Holden's when I was a kid....now I'd take a GT-R over a Commodore everyday of the week.
Forgot the Mazda 787b
Dont worry, im gonna do another part, this was one of the worst decisions ever in motorsport..
wankel is internal combustion engine (for sure) but FIA seems can't decide how to regulating this engine
Original way to calculate the displacement for wankel engine was ridiculous and gave the wankel truly unfair advantage. One really great thing was hp/kg relation but it really won't matter if the displacement is too big.
Wankel was a oil and fuel thirsty failure from the beginning and now maybe finally even Mazda realised it.
It wasn't banned for being overpowered - in fact, it was quite underpowered compared to most Group C cars at the time. The FIA instituted a limit on engine displacement (before then, Group C was only limited by fuel consumption per race distance) because Group C was practically outperforming F1 in terms of popularity at the time which the FIA did NOT appreciate. Of course, that ultimately led to the demise of Group C in general, but I suppose that would be oversimplifying as there were many factors to that. As for the 787b specifically, it was actually one of the slowest cars and only had 1 win total because the leading Mercedes - which lapped the 787b four times in that race by the way despite the 787b having a *significant* weight advantage - suffered too much damage and had to retire.

i learned something new and nerdy today :0)
Great video
+Joan Cuadrat Martin Thanks
5:34 1991year they were second, first was Mclaren in drivers and Constructors
The fault to Williams Tyre mechanic in Estoril, made losing a winned race by the half of the distance.
I think the Celica had 0.25 bhp/kg or 4 kg/bhp..
I noticed that as well, he calculated power to weight the wrong way round for all cars, when you read weight to power, or KG/bhp the figures are correct.
+dieselmupke I messed up the European and the US measurments, here in Europe they are using KG per BHP..
I miss the Audi quattros that were banned in murica because the manufacturers could not build an v8 with more power than an 5 cylinder 2,5 liter engine.
5:20 that song brought back too many memories
the history of haters
I'm probably the only one but does anybody know the song that was used for the begining section for the Toyota Celica around 2:20
supertrooper5150 i am looking for the same song title
Alan Larsen - Strive
The Brabham BT46 was NOT banned, it was withdrawn by Bernie, as the very first part of a long poker play with the aim to take over first the F1 constructors organisation, and eventually F1 as a whole (apart from some minor FIA interference) as well..
The Music in the background at 5:20 LOL!!!!!
they banned the systems in the f1 championship and i believe this effectively killed senna
+David Micheal Williams And still blamed Adrian Newey
yeah pretty sickening!!..prost lovers..
Senna was a saint off the track.
you're hilarious, that car was designed for active suspension which was banned so was using passive, the car needed development to integrate with the passive suspension and the car was difficult and unpredictable to control until mid season, rules were the same for everyone else. Williams is my joint second favourite team ever in f1 but with no active suspension a lot of development time was lost, so they were still learning vital information on what needs development at races. and the car failed. it happens regularly, but sometimes the worst can happen. sadly it did.
is a man to blame for his wifes death if she was to die giving birth? same principle.
Didn't see any others die that year, was it just Senna they banned the systems on then?
Kinda sad to see Indy banning the all wheel drive technology outright. Could have seen all wheel drive cars in the US gain popularity much sooner.
This is the very reason I look forward to autonomous or unmanned racing the fear of death can be removed and it can be back to achieving the most performance with technology.
The NHRA, did the same thing to Pro Stock driver, Buddy Ingersoll, when he showed up with a twin turbocharged 3.8L V6. When that car started defeating all the 8.2L powered cars ,they told him not to bring it back.
They need to ban the current Mercedes engine from F1. Good but not world class drivers like hamilton turned into multiple world champions, bang on mediocre drivers like rosberg become champions. True world class drivers, massa, vettel and alonso, reduced to bystanders by the huge disparity in equipment.
I love that mentality
These guys are too good - let's fucking ban them
You need to remove the big Red boxes they are to prominent
The color is too prominent or only the size?
The size and the colour, the banner interferes with a very good video, that my only critic , apart from that great
Danny Roy Ok, thanks for the feefback.
Danny Roy You need to learn to spell before criticising the creativity of others.
@lazaglider
That doesnt make any sense at all.
When it came to open wheel Sprint cars, we used Rambler power steering rams to add power steering for setting the car up for using the throttle to drift the car and set up the car for maximum use of the back straight. All of these arms were sold out at every auto salvage yards in only 2 months. Saginaw made power steering boxes next year. Power steering was NOT banned. Old aircraft engines were NOT BANNED. Ya run what ya brung.
FIA: you technology far ahead other team, BAN
Racing should always be about the cars. Not about the drivers, imagine how exciting racing would be if you had fan cars, turbine cars, 7L Hemi cars.... all racing!? I could give one shit about the drivers. Or who has the most skill since all the cars are equal.
Actually racing can be about the skill. But if you have actual car companies designing different cars they should be allowed to make any cars they can if it's the top class.
Hey, but where is Mazda 787B?
Bunny CZ tru, tru asf
Was the Mazda 787b Band ?
That Chaparral looks like a laundry machine from the back.
that was cool thanks
soooo let me get this right..you place Gordon Murray's Rip-Off of the Chaparral 2J fan car higher than the original??
Hall had 1970 tech and invented something phenomenal..Murray just copied the idea and made it open-wheel..pfff
Hardly brilliant for the man who stole the concept and had the advantage of 8 more years of racing car development, wouldn't you say?
Pro Euro/Anti America, much? wtf
Thumbs down for those red banners.
Maxwell Speedwell i know...
Why tho? I could read then with no problems.
You forgot the 427 Cammer that was banned by NASCAR, because it was wayy too powerful.
Frank Williams, quite rightly, argued the money spent on advanced technology, stayed in the team, unlike hiring a high price driver who could flounce out of the team on a whim, and the claim the Brabham fan car was using a fan primarily to cool the engine, had a modicum of truth, the win in Sweden was the only race that year where the Alfa flat 12 did not overheat.
In hindsight, the ban on driver aids had unforeseen consequences. Because the cars were traveling just as if not faster than 1993, there was little margin for error when things went wrong. This proved to be the case 4 times at least in race weekends in early 1994 as well as others in test sessions. JJ Lehto fractured vertebrae in his neck in his first pre season test with Benetton. Pedro Lamy dislocated both legs in a test session at Silverstone. Jean Alesi injured his neck in a test at Mugello. What did the ban succeed in doing? Causing intrigue, controversy and suspicion when teams were performing better than they had before, Vis a vie the Benetton. On top of that, they didn't take the measure of slowing down the cars before anything could happen. It may as well have counted for nothing though, when the opportunity to see if Benetton had driver aids, although they found the car had software for the technology, they couldn't conclusively prove that they had used it, so were acquitted. Short term, they must have taken the attitude, "we'll allow it until we can come up with a means to police properly the ban". That chance came in 2008 when a standard ECU was introduced which ensures that no driver aids were being used...
No superbird? Great video though. I was unaware of almost all of these cars.
5:27 HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA song in the background lol.
There was a F1 car that had around 6 wheels in total (4 in the rear) To help with traction during the turns due to the greater surface area
I always thought about installing a small jet turbine engine on my intake but I think the thrust may be too hot... maybe an engine built for one of those huge model planes? the snowmobile engine idea is completely awesome!
BT46 wasn’t banned it was withdrawn because Brabham needed the support of the other private teams
"Over 300,000 people can fit into our turbine jet engine". That was news to me.
1:58 I had a nightmare involving a lawnmower once..
I remember doing 231 mph in reverse with that chaparral in gram tourism 4
Bwahahahaha 🤣 nice mate 👍
personally i loved the red banners, i could watch the video whilst being educated by the banners great idea
5:20 that music😂
that 2 j, not using any rubber while remaining low weight paneling is pretty impressive in my mind. restored a cobra a little while back because all the rubber parts (IE. the front bumper) was rotting away. replaced it with all custom fiberglass and carbon sheets. should have got pictures, I was just too happy it was done.
Nice music :)
I liked the video and its Content
as the golden rule goes ; he who has the gold, makes the rules

What a day that was, let me tell Ya.
