Even after his passing he’s still teaching me…RIP🙏
Watching this vid 5/23. RIP Tom. This video helped me.
Your videos make me feel a lot more confident about doing some of these jobs. Very informative and covers all aspects of improving the truck.
I made a steel plate and put a magnet on it and it literally pulls the keepers off for you, I do recommend the aluminum on going back in though makes it easier
I’ve literally seen all your videos, you should be some sorta Cummins master mechanic!
Best informative cummins videos on the tube. 👍🏼 Tom
Appreciate that!
Ya they go right into the cowel every time.
I've got some experience w/MOPAR 440s...I like the "tap method" to ensure keepers & retainers are seated!😃 Also, that aluminum tool is fantastic! 👍 My thought is perhaps applying a magnet to top of valve will magnetize it enough to "draw" the keepers? 🤔 Dunno. Thx!
Superb! 😮 Also the head stud video! 👌 I'm a Hellcat muscle car guy & recently got a 2018 Ram 3500 CTD G56. Learning so much from videos like yours! 😃
Those plugs got drilled circle with a whole saw and an aluminum blank with just like the freeze plug deals from power driven.
Maybe assembly grease would make the retainers easier to place and forget?
Great video brother! Thanks a bunch. I'm ready to tackle my truck. Sometimes you just need to see it.
Really helped me out tonight! Same setup I was using! Big thumbs up!!👍
👍
do you happen to a measurement from bottom of chainsaw file to bottom of the tape? just so i can make one and have the reassurance that im not going to drop a valve when doing my spring and retainers.
Another great video. Got a 03 cr that I'm building. Keep up the good work
Great video, planning on doing same to my 2007, now I am more confident in doing it myself. Thanks for the video! Earned a new sub.
Good to hear, Thanks!
Your channel is so nice man thanks for doing the videos!
Thanks!
Why would you not replace the seals when you pull the springs out???????
hey wonder is it hard to replace valve steam ?? the way u use special tool ....and 4 valve each cylinder will closed all 4 when Piston is on TDC . Kool I will order those tool nice have one
So after you do 1 and 6 do you have to turn the motor or just keep going and by chance could you get a measurement off that chainsaw file? Thanks for the videos because of you, I did my headstuds and my second gen swap with ease. Thanks again for the great videos and keep em coming.
what's the difference between the 103 springs & 105s trying to figure out what would be better ?I'm pushing about 700hp on stock cam
Good video Tom thank you
Did you use any engine assembly lube for the springs and push rods or just motor oil where needed?
Is their anything additional you have to do to fit those extreme duty push rods when replacing stock pushrods? Or will the bigger diameter fit
Just adjust valve lash
So now that I have replaced springs and pushrods in my truck and did the valve lash and a couple 100 miles on starting to notice a clattering noise like maybe valve lash. Do you think I should do a valve lash check? Is there a break in period and maybe need an adjustment again?
It's easy enough to get in there i'd double check the lash, I'd also double check the torque on the rocker arms.
How do you know when to start on 1 and 6 if the rockers are off? And then what’s the order after that I don’t know if you said it in the video I watched real fast before work, I need to change valve seals and I thought I had to take the head off but I’d prefer this route
You pull the number 1 injector and put the rod in that hole,,, rotate the engine till the rod is all the way up and just starts to fall,
Can you link the tool you are using please?
I bought Hamilton pushrods for my 6.7. Can I use the factory tappets with new pushrods? I only have 29,000 miles or should I replace them to. Do I have to compress air I to cylinder so valves dont drop?
You can reuse the tappets. Just put the cylinder your doing at top dead center and that will keep the valves from drooping
@@TurbaTom Thank you sir.
How much beer and cussin' while reinstalling retainers?
did you have to do anything to keep the valves from dropping, or did you just be careful
Rotated the crank till the Piston is at TDC. The Piston will keep the valves from dropping.
Turba Tom ok, yea i forgot about doing that :) Thanks!
whats the name of that tool for the springs
Tork Technology valve spring compressor #cvsc010
Very well made tool. Well worth the $$ especially if you’ve ever used one of the cheaper steel ones. I’ve also used their tool for the VP44 install.
So after you do 1 and 6 do you have to turn the motor or just keep going and by chance could you get a measurement off that chainsaw file? Thanks for the videos because of you, I did my headstuds and my second gen swap with ease. Thanks again for the great videos and keep em coming.
After 1 and 6 turn the motor a little till the next pistons are up. Just set 1 and 6 at tdc and make a measurement tool so you know your good
