Due to having eczema most of my life, I had enough of "cortozone creams" going to the doctors ,etc. . . So I started studying skin care and now I have a "pantry" downstairs in my basement. I have all my products in an area which is cool, dark and keeps the oils safe! Love your face serums, bath scrubs, creams! It works for me! Love making my own products! I have been doing this for 6 years now!

    Hi Sophie
Great advice and very, very informative channel - so glad I found you.
I've just started my own-made cosmetics journey after years of nightmare skin issues but, being in the UK am trying to find the best preservative for cream moisturisers and body moisturiser/ lotion. I cannot access the link for your NeoDefend.
So, do you think an 'all-round' preservative would work that is mostly oil soluble?
Hope I got the terminology right.
    Keep up the great work

Hi Sophie! Thanks for another wonderful video. Whenever I talk to my friends about making my own skin care, I always mention your name. You're the reason i started my journey on making my own products! My question to you is about shelf life particularly of the butters and nut/vege oils. Sometimes i don't use them within a year because my chronic illness flares and I don't always feel able to use up my product. Any insight you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    • @gorgeouslygreen839
      @gorgeouslygreen839 7 років тому

for most plant oils, butters etc I think the shelf life is about a year but IF KEPT IN THE FRIDGE. But better to use within 6 months if poss.

it take a while to learn how to make and properly formulate some skincare items, especially those with water, or water bases like hydrosols, aloe and so on. spend time studying ingredients, how they work together and on the skin. test them and get insurance. If you are making water based items it takes a year to formulate and test.

Also as a suggestion can you talk about the process of adding fresh fruit juices to products, for example , how papaya extract is added to creamed ect. Also about the the purposes of glycerin, I read that glycerine can be used to make extracts also that glycerin can work as an emulsifier, thanks Sophie you're brilliant

I do have an inquiry about rosehip oil, I used the lifeflo brand and it gave me small white breakouts along the tops of my cheeks. I know this is hard to gauge but do you think it was the lifeflo brands production that broke me out or the rosehip oil itself.

hmmm - really tough call. You could try another brand. And I don't think you shouldn't let go of it altogether because it's such a great oil. Maybe try Mountain Rose Herbs

Can castor oil be substituted for rosehip seed oil?

In some instances, but not in all. Rosehip seed oil is fairly inexpensive, so I always recommend having it to hand.

hmm Test have been done on Mountain herbs essential oils, and their oils were not that pure. Businesses claiming that their oils are pure and are not is very confusing. I was thinking in buying essential oil from them, but after the results of the purity of their oils no way🤔

Where is this test? I'd like to read it and have it verified by a 3rd party. Please share.

not a lot of organic why?

I just didn't talk too much about the organic aspect. I think that cold-pressed is the first concern, and then go for organic where possible.

Hi Sophie! LOVE this video...far overdue!! Love watching everything you post! I am a huge fan from Canada! :) 2 questions/suggestions: I have all your books and have made the hair balm from your latest book, except I cannot find panthenol anywhere...can you so kindly send me the link? Also, I think it would be AMAZING to have a "Sunday with Sophie"...where you could walk us through a morning wakeup, meditation, maybe a little workout and post DIY spa...with an afternoon spot of tea...:) it would be super fun I think to spend a day with Sophie and your community. Food for thought perhaps? :)
