    Great show as usual. On the subject of efficiency, could you do an in depth study of why some cars, Hyundai and Tesla in particular, are more efficient than the average, and others, the Jaguar for example, are dire. I have looked for differences and clearly weight and drag co-efficient have some effects but they don't explain all the difference. If you think about it, my friends Ioniq does '60mpg' to my Zoe's '40' and it is a bigger, heavier and more powerful car. I would love to understand the difference as it seems to me that electric cars need to be economical just as surely as ICE cars do. Thanks, Tim

      @stephenjenkins10 4 роки тому +6

      Yes, agree with that and the one thing that annoyed me a bit about this video was that Robert was interrupted just as he was about to mention the SEAT El Born. I think that this will be a really good car as, in my opinion, when you compare the equivalent ICE VW car to its SEAT equivalent; E.g. VW Golf Vs. SEAT Leon, the Leon is basically a better looking Golf, for less money. So, given that the El Born is built on the ID3 platform once again I’m expecting a fairly similar car, in terms of performance and technology, just cheaper and much better looking.

    Really happy to see this collaboration - prompted me to subscribe to your channel.
    So I am thinking about how these call interviews could be improved. Here are the following things I found "uncomfortable" from video consumption standpoint:
    1) At time cuts were too quick so it felt like rhythm is lost. Sure it was a time-saving thing but on these interviews, I feel like you can be a bit more lenient on length - we are watching you guys chat and enjoy the conversation about topics we also enjoy rather than looking for an efficient car review. Otherwise, if the short length is indeed the goal, having a script divided in more chunks would be better to optimise for length in post.
    2) You didn't have a common background sound which made it feel like - "Robert talks about one topic, you switch to another" while actually you were commenting and discussing the same topic with him. I am thinking maybe having the same background noise track from one of your sides being played across the whole video. This in conjunction with fewer quick cuts could add to the flow.
    3) The camera set up on your side could be pulled a bit further out. Not sure what you used for the call but I see two potential solutions - since webcams generally suck but phone cameras are fine, in well-lit conditions use a phone for a video call (Google Duo or Microsoft Teams has a pretty ok quality) ALTERNATIVELY since video calls do go through compression, set up a separate camera recording you - this will also let you switch between two viewpoints if needed.
    Of course, I don't know your quarantine set up so it's completely understandable to have problems during this time but if you are able to take anything from these three points, that's nice. Looking forward to your future videos.

    It's funny when the Kona and E-Niro first came out I liked the looks of the Kona better. I recognized that it might be the more "gaudy" of the two, but I liked it. By comparison I thought the E-Niro was very vanilla. Not ugly, just kind of meh. But the E-Niro has really grown on me. One thing I'd be curious to hear about from people who've driven both is the usability of the touch screen. Everyone says the Niro interior is nicer, but to me the touchscreen placement looks like it would be easier to use for the driver.

    What a difference a few years makes, when all you had was Model S and the Leaf, neither of which were of much interest to most UK buyers. Now there's finally some proper choice in the offing, and the range issue finally seems to have been put to bed. All we need now is more joined up charging infrastructure and the prices to drop, cars reaching the second hand market and it's job done. At least it's now obvious that the futures is all electric, and resistance is futile.

      Bobby was talking about the backlash against diesel in the USA, (brought on by VW because of "dieselgate") and that BMW had to buy back loads of it's diesel cars from the USA. No mistake made, the common thread being stinky diesel.

    Kona and Niro are essentially the same. But the main differences in UK spec. are more load volume in Niro but greater load weight in Kona. The Kona has a greater level of safety tech in the highest spec., than the only spec. of the Niro. Also, the Kona 2020 MY, appears to have an 11kW onboard charger, while the Niro still has the 7.2kW.
    But probably the biggest selling point, is the Kona’s great maximum potential range in all weathers. Real world range for summer - Kona 300+mi. Whereas the Niro might top 270mi. In winter you can knock 12% off those. And for sub 0°C, driving at night with snow and winter tyres, you could reduce those ranges by a further 12-15%.
    Out of the two. If range is the deciding factor, it’s the Hyundai Kona Electric. If you need the load volume it’s the Kia eNiro. If you have the money and want both, it’s the Tesla Model Y LR Plus. And if you’re on a tighter budget. With a similar range to the Niro and load volume of the Nissan Leaf, then it’s the Renault Zoe ZE.50 R110. The R135 has a bit more punch but you’ll have to pay for it. Either way, if you go for the Zoe, remember to specify the £750 CCS charger and you still get their 22kW AC charger.

    Fun. But motorway driving being the worst thing .. that's out of date Rory. My Ioniq delivers the range it promises. If might affect some cars but it's not the blanket issue it was.
    Predictable range and good fast charging infrastructure make such a difference.

    Hi,
    Can you explain fast charging please !
    I’m just about to order this vehicle,is fast charging the cable or the power point?
    I live near a 22W street electrical point & near a electric lamppost.
    Can I fast charge from there ?

    • @kieransharp18
      @kieransharp18 4 роки тому

      For slow chargers 90% of the time you use your cable and get speeds between 6 and 22 kw I think the lamp post is one of these. Fast chargers are mostly 50kw there are a few which are 150-350 kw. Tesla have their own network with charging speeds between 130-250kw the 250 is very rare at the moment. I would recommend using aps like charge map and plug share. On fast chargers you are mostly limited to what the car can take for ex an i3 can only take 50kw even on a 350kw charger.

    The mid range VW ID3 1st edition looks to be very near £40K (with no frills) - which is why I bowed out. The 77kwhr long range ID3 will likely be nearer £50k. We don't actually know price yet - but if it is around that level then this is hopelessly high priced. If VW are serious about affordable EVs they are going the wrong way (the Tesla way) about it (without Tesla wow factor).
    Also interesting (so I hear) that the long range big battery car is so heavy and the footprint so small that it can only be a 4 seater. That will just kill it as a serious family car proposition.

    Did you miss the Niro and the Soul ? Also, why not point out the DS etense flaws, eg costs much more same battery size as Pug 208 but bigger body so lower range and more sluggish, and whilst style is subjective who on earth could like the ridiculous body styling cutting into the rear windows?

    Robert stated VW are having some small issues with the software on the ID3. That appears to Be an understatement when VW have admitted the OS does not talk to all the systems in the car and they don’t have the Tech people to fix it. Hardly can be described as a small issue.
