- In this video, we look at synaptic transmission across a cholinergic synapse. First we explore the structure of synapses, including the roles of calcium ion channels and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. We then explore the events that take place when a synapse is triggered including the role of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase.

I had a small question: I had learned that the acetylcholine is broken down into acetate and choline by the acetylcholinesterase enzyme. So, are acetate and ethanoic acid the same thing?
