You're amazing, Douche. I follow new music pretty closely and I have no idea how you find all these bands. I think I know about 20 percent of the albums on your list, and a lot of them I learned from your UA-cam posts. Looking forward to checking out a lot of these albums in the next few days. Thanks for sharing your gift for discovering great new music!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. It is always nice to hear from someone that is getting something out of these videos. Hope you have a lovely holiday - cheers!
Brilliant! I’ve been watching a few AOTY lists but this is how to do it - no need to keep stopping the video to look up what each band sounds like (and I hardly knew any of them). Amazing collection of music I wasn’t across yet. Thank you so much!
Incredible you put this together. I missed a bunch of your videos this year, setting intentions to do better next year. Don't know how I missed there was a new Being Dead lp but just streamed it and its a must have. The Beak struck my fancy as did the band, just before Robber Robber who I didn't know. Well done!
Hey Dom. Thanks for checking out this nonsense. The Being Dead really grew on me over time and I think I like it better than the debut now. Hope you have a lovely New Year. Cheers!
The Being Dead album has been playing on a loop in my head for months now, i love it so much - playful but smart popcraft, crunchy in spots, heartfelt harmonizing in others, sometimes in the same song… Shocked not to see it on more yearend lists - definitely slept on. Cheers!
Yeah, big fan of them. I feel like they got more attention after this one was released - but also agree they deserve more love. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
Damn. What an absolutely incredible list you have here. A lot of bands I had not heard yet, but am stoked to nerd out. WOW. Great taste, man. Look forward to following along for more. Cheers 👊🏼
This video was in my recommended videos so I watched, enjoyed and subscribed. I will definitely watch more from your channel. My favorite on your list was The Waeve. My favorite of 2024 was Nice Biscuit - SOS.
@TheVinylDouche Thanks! I found it. If you come across more bands like them, Tame Impala, Temples, Pond, Wand, La Luz, King Gizzard etc please review them.
Hi Sam, Thanks so much for taking the time to put together such an awesome list! Was surprised/pleased to see Mo Dotti at #1 - I have about 20 on your list (mainly due to your vids), but am really psyched to get another dozen or so. So much music, so little time.... Hope 2025 treats you well! Cheers!
It’s always good to hear from someone getting a little something out of these videos. Too much stuff too little time, indeed. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a great new year. Cheers! 🍻
You are such a gift to the internet! I recently started getting back into music in October and have really taken to Thus Love and the The Umbrellas. Ashamed to say I don't know the rest of the bands but thank you and your channel for bringing them to my attention!
Hi. I’m glad you stumbled on to the channel & it’s great to hear you are finding something worth digging in to here. Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated. Cheers! 🍻
Great list Sam! Nothing better than showing artists that pretty much no one has heard of! Here’s my top 10 1) Fellini Felin- Oddy 2) Fazi- Folding Story 3) Soft Hearted Scientists-Waltz Of The Weekend 4) Junipers-Imaginary Friends 5) Yodelice-What’s The Cure? 6) Gwendoline-C’est A Moi Ca 7) Konstant-Unbandige Kinder 8) Elephant Stone-Back into the Dream 9) Post Industrial Boys-1971 10) Tim Bowness- Powder Dry Cheers!
Great list Sam a lot I’ve heard and love others I still need to check out. Not sure of order but my top 10 would likely include Real Estate, Nada Surf, Quivers, Mt Misery, Chime School, Umbrellas, Ducks Ltd, Jim Nothing , Best Bets, EggS. Happy New Year! Matt
Thank you Mr VD for serving up a list where I get to explore for unfamiliar bands and songs, unlike with the lists of the usual suspects. My 5 fave tunes I've discovered here are Best Bets - Spooky Signals, Quivers - Pink Smoke, Humdrum - See Through You, The Reds Pinks & Purples - Too Late For An Early Grave, Marina Allen - Superreality (latter two pre-2024 but discovered here). Surprised Cuni didn't make it on.
Appreciate you sharing some of the tunes that caught your ear. Looks like Cuni slipped right by me. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Happy New Year. Cheers! 🍻
I just wanted to thank you for the time and effort you devote to this. It must be a labor of love unless you have some meat stick endorsement deal you haven't disclosed. I watched this yesterday (Merry Christmas) and I told myself I wasn't going to react to anything outside the top 20. I do have thoughts about but I know you and the Snob are going to discuss it so I'll let it be. To be honest, I'm not sure if this was a good year or not. There were some records I really liked but I'm not sure if there were any super important bands of the future or if anyone, except me, will be listening to these records five years from now. Part of me enjoys having indie rock as a permanent subculture. But I'm not sure if any of these bands will ever break through to the mainstream and I don't know that's a reflection on the bands or the larger culture. Hmm. On the positive side, I'm looking forward to more entertaining videos in the new year.
Yeah, I imagine there is music being listened to by people that are 20 years old that we have never heard of that is more likely to break out and become mainstream. I just focus on what I happen to like (knowing that not all that many other people will). Whether anything breaks out to a more mainstream audience doesn't really concern me (although I wish them all the best). But, I understand asking the question of whether or not this was a good year. I appreciate your support and hope you had great Christmas and found plenty of delicious meat stick in your stocking. Cheers!
Still I'm glad now that I didn't comment more on the list. Having time to reflect, I'm a lot less concerned with where a record got ranked. I'm more concerned with drawing attention to things that are being overlooked in my opinion. And maybe that's the real point of it all--drawing attention to little gems that everyone else seems to be ignoring. Have a happy new year, Sam! May all your meat sticks be firm.
Incredible list, as always! Your list always consists of either albums I already know and love (it's embarrassing how few I know this time 😳) and albums I can already tell I would like (with a list of 75, that's practically impossible). I've had the privilege of seeing Laetitia Sadier, Meatbodies, DIIV and Fazerdaze this year (and I've got my ticket for Beak> for next year). I'm still revealing my own top 50 on the 'gram, but here's my top 10, if you're interested: 1. Great Doubt (Astrid Sonne) 2. This Could Be Texas (English Teacher) 3. Opaque (Mo Dotti) 4. Songs of a Lost World (The Cure) 5. Something In The Room She Moves (Julia Holter) 6. Rong Weiknes (Fievel Is Glauque) 7. Rick White and the Sadies (Rick White and the Sadies) 8. Pomegranate (Tess Parks) 9. >>>> (Beak>) 10. Spoons For The World (ROY) Always enjoy your vids and your taste in toonage. And the meat sticks. ~ BobbyB
Hey Bobby. Thanks for sharing your list - a few there I need to pop on to my list to catch up on. I don’t find myself spending too much time over on the ‘gram so I wind up missing a lot. Possibly something I can improve upon in 25. I’m jealous of those shows, man. Big time. Hope you are doing well. Cheers!
Over the past few years I have listened to a lot of progressive, death and black metal and got tired of the production and vocal styling on many of them. So, your channel has been the perfect antidote for me this year. There are some albums on this list that I need to go and check out for the first time or re-listen to. I'm looking forward to hearing what you discover next year in the indie world.
It’s always great to hear someone getting something out of this. I know it is certainly not for everyone. Glad you are finding more things of interest to dig in to. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
Pretty cool list. I gotta say, Party Dozen is a lot more than indie. I saw them on KEXP about a year ago. Kristy Tickle is really "out there". mo dotti is a great #1. Thanks Sam. I've enjoyed your insights throughout the past 365 or so.
Yeah, I am using ‘indie’ here in a pretty broad, generic way. I know some people don’t think it means anything. Thanks for checking out my list - and thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers!
I am have constantly been blocks by Russia and Belarus. I keep looking over my shoulder expecting a hit squad to take me out. Somehow you accidentally put ORB at 61 instead of in the top 10, no doubt that was an accident. Blushing also didn’t hit the top 10 by no doubt an over site. Sorry to hear you had internal turmoil on you staff, firing is tough buy you did it. Great list Sam
Hey Steve. You cannot pull the wool over Vladamir’s eyes. That is one lesson I have learned the hard way. Over and over and over again. It’s always a hard decision to fire someone so close to the holiday season. But, sometimes when they really deserve it I find myself enjoying it. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and built many snow men and your stocking overflowed with meat stick and slippers. Cheers!
I would’ve switched 48 and 49, but I mean… you did okay with this aside from that terrible decision. Glad to see Quivers in the Top 20. Dummy is fairly high on my year-end favorites list as well. I have to say that there was no way I could guess your #1 this year. In the past, I’ve always had a pretty good idea. I never even listened to your #1. Holiday Cheers, Sam. I hope Satan filled your stocking with a million meat sticks. ✌🏻
Hey Jon. A lot of controversial calls in this one - but you definitely identified the most controversial call. I’ve been on the phone for the past three hours fielding complaints about it. You live and you learn. My stocking runneth over with meat sticks this holiday season. So much meat, so little stocking - as the famous saying goes. I hope you are staying out of trouble. Happy Honda Days! Cheers!
Shower Curtain top 5 for sure …COME ON. The whole album is fantastic, no skips. Most of the bands go “out of their way to sound different” SC are pure talent.
Hi. I actually do not. I do need to work on some sort of solution for people looking for a list format. Possibly in the new year. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
@TheVinylDouche for sure! I know ppl like google docs or a spreadsheet, but it's also quite easy to make an albumoftheyear account and ive found it quite helpful for my music journey:) also wanna be able to reference the list! So even in the description would help:)
Good work on ranking this lot, plenty of good music about this year but I'm afraid a lot of it sounds too similar, too generic 'indie' (to my ears). A high number of your choices I came across throughout the year, I liked, but not enough to push the 'Buy' button. I will be checking out #51 SML, the small clip intrigues me, #48 Monolam Khana Bierbood is still in a basket and may be a purchase soon, only came across Mo Dotti a few days ago on Bandcamp and has enough about it to be a possible buy, you giving it the number one rank means I'm off to give it another listen. Keep up the good work, Happy Christmas and a have a prosperous new year. For what its worth my favourites are (not ranked) - ua-cam.com/video/bYX-vjxkd_Y/v-deo.htmlsi=SBDgIhzgcfbUeX0Q
Looks like you had a handful on your list that I also enjoyed from this year and certainly some I have yet to check out. I try to keep this channel fairly narrow in scope - so I can imagine some finding it to be a bit too samey. Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
@TheVinylDouche Ooops, my bad, the comment was meant to reflect the general trend in the music currently out there as being similar, not a criticism of your list but in hindsight I suppose it's the same thing! Apologies, it was not meant that way, not my style, I enjoy your channel & I've purchased a lot of records thanks to you.
Sorry but they all sound the same. Looking for something new but this ain’t it. The top 5 are the worst vocals and musicians I’ve heard in a while. Like they are trying to be pathetic in purpose

Thank you for watching. Cheers! 🍻
I’ve waited all year for this
Just 365 days until you're disappointed again.
The Being Dead album has been playing on a loop in my head for months now, i love it so much - playful but smart popcraft, crunchy in spots, heartfelt harmonizing in others, sometimes in the same song… Shocked not to see it on more yearend lists - definitely slept on. Cheers!

Peel Dream Magazine and DIIV stood out to me.
I’ve seen the DIIV record high up on a number of lists - worth taking a look for sure. Hope your stocking is stuffed with meat sticks and beer. 🍺 🍖
@@TheVinylDoucheWell it’s not stuffed with Phoenix Goodwill footage anymore.
