I LAY MY LIFE DOWN FOR YOU by JPEGMAFIA was definitely my top pick for this year with Songs of a Lost World coming in with an extremely close second. Other than that - I loved the list.
Mk.gee (McGhee) was in my top ten. Listened to it nonstop basically all summer. Was really cool to see him on this tour playing a small venue. I think next time, the venue will be much MUCH bigger. Jessica Pratt also in my top ten! I know Here In The Pitch was on a bunch of publications’ year end lists, but I still feel like people are sleeping on it.
Thanks for the list as always, Matt! Lots of great choices, and as usual, a bunch for me to check out. Not sure what you have yet to listen to, but my top 20: 1. The Cure - Songs of a Lost World 2. The Smile - Wall of Eyes 3. Pearl Jam - Dark Matter 4. The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy 5. Guster- Ooh La La 6. Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown 7. The Smile - Cutouts 8. Imaginal Disk is definitely in my top 3 of the entire year, and I actually think it’s quite a few steps above Mercurial World (which is insane to me because I absolutely love that album). They just keep getting better! Also I feel like OGWAU flew a bit under the radar this year due to just how much great music was released in 2024… they didn’t even get a single Grammy nod, and the Grammys LOVE Vampire Weekend! Weird.
Naima Bock - Below a Massive Dark Land, easily the standout new discovery for me. Pairs well with Jessica Pratt. Mount Eerie - Night Palace Phil delivers another great indie folk album Marika Hackman - Big Sigh Great pop album with beauty and heart. The Smile - Wall of Eyes and Cutouts 2 great releases from Thom and friends. Michael Kiwanuka - Small Changes Michael can do no wrong.
my top 5 new album...well, top 6 1. Paul Roland - Morbid Beauty...a future psych/garage rock classic! 2. Molchat Doma - Belaya Polosa... Depeche mode personel jesus era with a Ukrainian twist 3. The Cure - Song of a Lost World... Dark, gritty and beautiful! 4. Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out...Skinny Puppy?! 5. The KvB - Tremors...Coldwave or darkwave? 6. Clan of Xymox - Medusa...One of the great 80's 4aD bands still going strong, good but not great album.

Couple suggestions from my Best Of List: La Luz (for fans of Khruangbin), Finom (quirky, infectious lady business), VR SEX (Joy Division meets NIN), The Heavy Heavy (acid rawk Mama’s & Papa’s), Sundrifter (Soundgarden meets Dead Can Dance)…enjoy & crank it!
I didn’t hear much from this year, very opposed to last year which I heard I think 19 albums from, but I’ll probably give Godspeeds new album a listen, definitely a great band. Kamasi’s new album, maybe a couple others. I heard I think 3 albums from this year. Well Jesus loves you!
I only bought one new album this year, Kula Shaker - Natural Magick. Love it. Unbelievable that it’s been so overlooked, but since so much ear garbage passes for music these days…

Yeah that's a CRIME
For me, Hit Me Hard and Soft was obviously my number one of the year haha but Brat is a close second. Cheers to 2025!
I didn't really give Brat a fair shake, I only heard a handful of songs.
Thought i might see Kishi Bashi sneaking in here. Really enjoyed his new one Kantos this year. Saw him 2 weeks ago. Amazing
WOW I forgot Kantos was this year. Should have 100% been honorable mentioned. The live show was great, saw it this year too.

thoughts on Daniel by Real Estate? Probably my most listened-to new album in 2024 but don't see people mentioning it on end-of-year lists
I haven't really listened to Real Estate since their first couple releases, tbh
@@TooManyRecords
You should check it out. Also my most listened record of 2024. Great listen for focusd times but also great in the background.
Wow never downloaded so many of your suggestions before. Thanks for the tips!
which ones did you like?!
my 1 is dark times, why lawd, or chromakopia

Beth almost made my honorable mentions but I didn't spend enough time with it. Same with Billie.

My brain can't process the idea of Soundgarden meets Dead Can Dance
You just have to listen to No Name by Jack White.
The best solo album he's done and as good as anything else he has been associated with.
I enjoyed it more than his other solo records, and the material live was great, but ultimately it was forgettable to me

after vampire weekend subtitles broken
confirmed
Do yourself a favor and listen to Sprints - Letter to Self . My AOTY. It's a no skip in my opinion.
No Atlantic 75 records? No UHQR or one steps? Man, I don’t know about this list.
This is a video about albums that came out in 2024
It doesn’t matter if you ‘don’t know’ about this list, it’s not yours. And it’s about albums not releases
Hey Matt, great selections. Agreed on the PJ, I think it is a top 5 album for them. Thanks for the list!
I know you’re a huge PJ fan but a top ten record…. Come on!!!
It's a great album!
Enjoyed this - for me its a fantastic intro to some new music🎵🎧🎶
I only bought one new album this year, Kula Shaker - Natural Magick. Love it. Unbelievable that it’s been so overlooked, but since so much ear garbage passes for music these days…
One Step of Green Day has got to be on somebody too 10 list. It’s amazing
Sprints, Ekko Astral, and Kim Deal all had better albums than anyone on your list.
seems like an unnecessarily aggressive take but I'll take your word on it
@@TooManyRecords Oh, you're one of those.
