It's amazing how this movie can make a peacock of all animals so scary. I've always considered Lord Shen the closest thing DreamWorks has to Scar, Disney's best villain. He's cold, calculating, his past directly ties in with the protagonist's, and there's so much depth to his character, plus Gary Oldman's performance is impeccable. I also love Po's struggle to find his true self and inner peace, and that "Po Finds the Truth" sequence in the panda village is so beautiful, yet so heartbreaking.
I love his fighting style, the fan of his tail , to cause misdirect and confusion as well as his style of using weapons that are also hidden , aswell as he is more strategic and uses mental games

@@millieboon .....the peacock tail attack is reminiscent of old Chinese movies that had fighters using the Chinese hand fan as a weapon.
I am afraid of peacocks feather or fish eyes. But mostly the feather. My family has this weird two peacock feathers it feels like its always staring at you no matter where you are in the room and its in the living room. Im less scared now but before when I was young I would always be terrified of even looking at or being in the room alone with it. So it feels for me very related
Peacocks are really terrifying ..they are at the top levels of food chain like eagles!
I have no idea how many times I've seen this movie, and I JUST NOW caught that the panda parents in the dream sequence were both voiced by Jack Black.

It makes sense though. Po has never heard his parent's voice (that he remembers), so of course they would sound like himself in the dream.
Po's backstory broke my heart into million pieces when I first watched it. And that theme. 💔
And freaking Gary Oldman as Shen! 🔥🔥🔥
All the voice actors for the villains of the trilogy nailed it. I can't imagine anyone else doing them.

And not only that but Shen himself technically fits the bill of a "warrior of black and white," he thought it meant a panda, but he did get brought down by his own creation at the very end, so

@@jjstarrprod Considering those red dots are somewhat of his emblem - I presume they are not his natural pattern, and he may drew them at some point
@@almas4663 not a bad theory, but considering it's on every single one of his feathers, it's much more likely it's just his natural plumage.
@@jjstarrprod He's a royal heir and a perfectionist. That "I envisioned it a little to the left.." scene showed tha even the tiny details in his image matter great deal to him, so he's the kind of person who would bother to find the right person to draw this on *all* of his feathers.

In the original script, Shen’s parents were ashamed of him for being born an albino. It was the Soothsayer who basically raised him, hence why he’s so forgiving of her antics
Defenetly the best out of the KFP trilogy. The cinematography, the story, the fight scenes, THE villain. Lord Shen has become one of the best movie villains in one movie. And the moral story and wisdom of it is amazing. And also Shen did commit successful genocide but of course some pandas survived so unfortunately it wasn’t just Po’s mom who died.
This is my favourite! It has all the elements- great humor, great teamwork, AMAZING score, the final fight was exceptional- using the inner peace against the cannon balls (the lighting changing to sunrise once po starts fighting), relationship with his dad
Shifu’s entrance showing his quick feet after “your friend there is very persuasive” is just chef’s kiss!

ikr, sadly people sleep on it ... shen's fight scene with ox and croc was so well choreograph and it shows how cool shens fighting style was and how skillfull he actually is putting down 2 masters at the same time
It's probably because it took so much time and effort lol. Just that first fight scene alone took months at least, now imagine doing one with a furious five v shen
Shrek, Madagascar, HTTYD, Puss In Boots, Kung Fu Panda... Dreamworks always makes the best 2's.

Steph is right, Tigress does sound off because in the first movie she was more angrier, grumpier, well trained soldier with a straight forward motive & Angelina Jolie used her lower, more raspier voice to portray those emotions as well as her bold,wise,well disciplined personality. In this movie she was more free (from the burdens she took & carried herself) and it shows in the beginning of the movie

The second one is the peak masterpiece of the trilogy !
KFP 1 & 2 came out with around 3 years space, with How to Train your Dragon inbetween each, and it was absolute PEAK Dreamworks ! That 3 hit-combo is what really put them on the map side by side with Pixar for a moment.
KFP2 is most definitely in the top 5 of best Dreamworks of all time, and in my top 10 of best animation movies of all times !
If you enjoyed watching it on a monitor, try imagine watching this one in 2011 on a big screen, in 3D !!! With Up, How to Train your dragon, this movie was a perfect illustration on how CG animation movies were just the perfect medium for that technology, in how it adds so much more depth to the image !
And having such a formidable story to boot it up, it was one of the most special cinematic experiences of my life !
The 3rd one came out in 2016, a whole 5 years after 2, and sadly, by that time (and after a frankly forgettable TV series), the hype for the franchise had become a bit stale already, and the 3rd movie, while still very enjoyable, was sadly a bit of a letdown. It's still a great movie on its own, but 1 and 2 were straight up legendary legends !
Now, I'm still VERY much looking forward to the coming 4th, next year, since it's directed by the same director than Puss in Boots the Last Wish, which, to me, is the best Dreamworks movie of these past 10 years (and after The Bad Guys, which was also pretty damn fantastic, 2022 was a great year for Dreamworks. Let's hope that once again, they're on a roll, like between 2008-2011).
Fun detail is that the wolf captain lost his eye to po's dad and also chases his mom.
an argument can be made that shen was actually a black/white peacock since in the ying yang shot at 9:42 shows him in black/white, but also it was his own undoing that caused his death in the end, because he wouldn't stop.
Shen is absolutely phenomenal and has one of my favorite moments in a movie, period. Po gives him the hero pep talk about letting go of the past and letting the wounds heal, and then Shen, entirely of his own free will, rejects that notion entirely and decides to go down fighting. No redemption arc for that peacock, he was going out on his own terms. I appreciate villains with that kind of dedication and agency.
This part is the best among the trilogy. Shen is phenomenal and the final fight 🤌🏻
I remember watching this in theatres back in 2011 and man this movie still holds up after all these years. It's one of the best sequels and Animated movies ever. I was so looking forward to Kung Fu Panda 3, but it kept getting delayed and finally came out in 2016. Unfortunately it didn't have the same impact as the previous 2 for me. Hopefully Kung Fu Panda 4 brings back the magic again.

Now that i rewatch the scene of shen's death for the 1000th time, i got a glimpse of something different from it. Shen closing is eyes and accepting the cannon crushing onto him, i think it could be a matter of debate on shen's depth. I think he couldn't accept defeat but at the same time he couldn't bear two things:
1.He had not the chance to try to reconciliate with his parents
2. In the end, he reached the awareness that all of his life, up to his defeat, was a product of his choices.
So he decided to die by the fate he himself had forged
Finally it's landed with bunch of fun😂❤ love to watch you guys 🫣✨
I'm nearly 56 and continue to enjoy watching animated movies that have a strong storyline.
Michelle Yeoh is amazing! Lots of range. She can play a wise mentor, a kickass Bond girl, and a bloodthirsty monarch (the last one is probably my favorite)
Personally I like Shen more than Tai Lang. Not that Tai was a bad villain, these two are some of the most intimidating cool villains I have ever seen. But the fact that Shen had a more personal tie to Po really made it personal for me by proxy. Kung Fu Panda is one of these series where you feel a lot more re-watching the movies as an adult because you understand the themes better. Definitely a really good series and something that I hope future generation kids are also introduced to. My fav definitely is this film because of the aforementioned reason, but it is really more of a tie between the first and this movie.
I love this. My only complaint is why are they muting the sound? Is UA-cam THAT strict?

The Holiday one fits perfectly into the movies -- but it is most important because Po actually has the Noodle Dream!
Epic forshadowing is how the radish in Po's nightmare looks like the cannonball firing at him in the end
About the part where Tigress hugs Po, she relates to his situation because in official Kung Fu Panda short series, there's a story about Tigress' past and turns out she was also adobted by Shifu.
So I think the hug meant she understands Po, what he is going through.
We all love Shifu but its kinda sad to imagine him as an absent father to Tigress. Due to the sadness of Tai Lung getting locked up and I get where he’s coming from but that must of been hard for Tigress. She does seem have alot of respect for him so maybe the relationship developed well, but in the first movie it also seemed like she was still chasing for his approval 😭😭 ugh. I be overthinking. I just need a movie about Tigress.
Lord Shen is one of my favorite villains of all time. He's so perfect, that I sometimes watch "All scenes with Lord Shen" videos instead of the whole movie. The voice, his FIGHTING STYLE, his motivs, everything is SOO GOOD.
DreamWorks really is great, as I think about it I like almost every type of DreamWorks film. The 2D Prince of Egypt types, and the 3D Shrek types.

Jack Horner tries to be "the Classic Disney Villain" trope, but ends up being the least charismatic, and least evil villain in Shrek franchise, by missing what a good Disney villain should have - a personal rivalry with the hero.
And Death us only so loved because of it's design and primal fear of death that makes us afraid of it.
@almas4663 people don't put jack Horner over Shen. Death is a great villain. You're wrong if you think it's only because we fear it. In the beginning of the movie he legitimately was going to kill Puss. Fearing death and actually being at death's door are two massively different things. It was only because Puss was literally about to die that he was crippled with fear for the rest of the movie. Just because it's not super deep or complicated doesn't mean it's not great
@@Lloyd00 Still, Death doesn't deserve the insane praise he received.
He's not deep, not complex, nor is he as dark as Shen or Rumpel.
It's just death with a bit of horror flair to it, but it's very forgetful and will not stand the test of time.
What annoys me is how a lot of people were unironically saying that Puss in Boots, the most light-hearted and cartoony movie in what otherwise is a dark, semi-realistic satire fantasy, was too dark for kids because it showed a droplet of blood, a cartoony gag with a skeleton, and a red-eyed wolf...
While KFP 2 started with a literal genocide, then had it's protagonist experience PTSD, and had a psychotic villain who doesn't hesitate to throw a knife at his general
@almas4663 like I said just because something is simple doesn't make it not great. First off separate your beef with everything surrounding the movie as a whole. Because it's clear that you have an issue with a lot of things that are completely irrelevant to just the conversation about death as the villain. You said it yourself it's a fear we all share which makes it an effective villain. Sorry to break it to you but he's extremely memorable and is easily the stand out of the movie. It's actually pretty impressive how simple the character is and it still gets high praise. From everybody! Stop being so salty they're just fictional characters
