    1) Don't pull on the handlebars. This will usually cause the bike to tilt to one side or the other in the air.
    2) Don't try to put your bike back on the ground as fast as possible. This will lead to extended arms and "dead sailor" syndrome. Let the bike come into you naturally.
    3) Go slower. This will force you to push into the face of the jump harder to clear the jump. Speed will mask bad technique.
    GG Beth. Awesome for you.

      1) check suspension before you hit the trail, last thing you want to do is rear shock or fork compressing 2x times more than other.
      2) prioritise the landing after the suspension compressed, I don't knwo how but found people that didn't care about the landing much and it ended mostly with injuries

    Awesome video guys, one of the best out there for breaking it down into its simplest form. Only questions i have are:
    1. Timing - are there specific points on the jumps you should be aiming to perform each step?
    2. Sizing/steepness - I've found that the way you hit jumps varies greatly depending on the size and steepness of the jump. Any tips for this?

    One more thing I do along with the tips on this video is, move my feet back and forth depending on how I want my bike to land, while on the jump I sometimes position my feet forward to dive position my bike, or heels down for landing on the back tire. Or the neutral parallel to land flat.
    Thanks, nice video!

    How I fine tune my jumps is by sessioning jumps and recording it from the side. And really focusing on my form while I do it. This is great cause now you recorded yourself while focusing on your form so you will be able to see how your body reacted to your command. You will notice that your body does not do the movement as "big" as you thought it did and stuff like that!

    Learn to hop on the FLAT. I don't mean bunny hop! Even hop, both wheels at the same time.
    The way you do it is by compressing your suspension (both if available) and releasing it. Bike will naturally come to you, and at that point you can pull with your FEET, to extend the hop.
    Pulling with your feet can be done by scooping the pedals - angle them so your feet are slightly extended.
    You don't need to use hop on the jump, but you NEED to grab the pedals with your feet, otherwise you can detach from bike.
    Learning hop will teach you how to stay connected to your bike while in air.

    Decent video, but on the serious side don't listen to this. As a pretty experienced freerider i know from experience that YOU should be jumping the bike, not the other way around. Depending on the suspension to launch you in the air will lead to DISASTER on bigger features. And the tip to just pull up with your legs will make it almost impossible to pull of manouvers in the air. Sorry guys, but Skills with Phil has an amazing video on this. Watch that instead.

    I was at Whistler 3 weeks ago and had the pleasure to be in a bike park for the time. As of that, i took an "intro to bikepark" lesson, which is a group ride. As the skills of the 3 person group where greatly divided, I got a 1 on 1 lesson with Ben. Back in Switzerland, singletrails are our bike pathways and Ben did a faboulous job of getting the bike park and downhill feeling into me. We did not really jump, but dropping was one of our focuses. Dropping a 1m drop at the end of the day was a huge accomplishment for me and an awesome feeling. Hey, I just want to say thanks for this upload! The video show me great advice how to jump and I was able to gain some nice air today on my local trails :D I'm not new to mountain biking just haven't biked in over 2 years and feel a bit rusty on the trails. Beth did a great job at making this video. You two are a great team, cute couple, and you guys have me as a new subscriber :)

      Ryan Hornick I used to do that too! Everything changed when I focused on pressing down evenly. Just try to imagine your hips pressing downwards in a straight line. If your pressing down (or pulling up) with your weight a little to the left or to the right, that’s the way you’re going to fly in the air. Hope that helps. This is Ryan, by the way 😂🤘🏼

      Obviously you cant compress suspension but still compressing in with your legs is key to pop off the lip and actually get air. For example if you watch a bmx video you will see they bend down before jumps even with no suspension

    • @gertyx
      @gertyx 5 років тому

      @@ryanhands5196 Cheers. It confused me cos there was something about the issues it would cause if you just compressed the back or front of the bike. Obviously you can only compress the front of a hardtail.

    I have been trying to Jump. A table jump I do has a steep in and a steep ramp. I've taught myself to jump on it by hitting it about 30km and the Bike weight compresses into the ramp by itself I just try not to pull and be relaxed. the other thing I had to do learn was to push the bike forward to land. the other main thing was as I started to get more air I was leaving the Bike and nearly floating off the Pedals, then I noticed in video's that the Riders pull their legs up. I had been keeping my legs stiff and not relaxed so was getting separated from my bike. Every time I try to muscle the bike into a jump to get more air I nearly, or do come to grief.

    No issues with assembly for me ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".

    I came from BMX trail riding, and recently started mountain biking. Where I come from it's flat, not downhill. I noticed nobody was really throwing extra cranks in up to the lip... and I find I can barely clear anything without pedaling until my legs fall off. Is this normal for flat non-flowy trails on a 29er?

  • @Ba-pb8ul
    @Ba-pb8ul 4 роки тому

    this works on trails. It doesn't work on flat blacktop when you're trying to jump a moron driving an Espace, and is blocking your commute. You need to retitle this video. It wasn't helpful.

    With the right tools (I used a simple bike tool kit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L that you can strap to the bike) it's simple to assemble. As a 270lb guy looking for a way to get more exercise that's easy on my feet I have been impressed by this bike. The tires ship with air in the tires, but before you ride you need to pump them up som more, but once you do you can ride with confidence. You'll definitely want to replace the seat if you're going to ride for any real distance, but that's the case with most bikes. I'm loving it and it has given me a hobby from my youth back.

    The one thing I rarely if ever hear the experts refer to is holding the compression till you reach the lip. If the compression is released slightly early all kinds of things can go wrong. A good tutorial on holding the compression would probably help a lot of people. Oh ya Emountainbikes are not a crime! 😃 My YT Decoy is just a badass bike and at 62 yrs old it keeps me on the trail ten times longer. The true crime is other folks worrying about it.

    I'd like to see a jump video for technical trails, in the video here you have a flat road with oodles of time, space visibility, what about jumps on single-track, such ones where you are riding rocky muddy rooty single-track, turn around a tree and have an immediate jump, that's the nature of most trails I ride, gravity enduro style

    If on a full suspension bike, make sure your rebound isn't set too fast. It will most likely buck you and make the launch harder to control. Personally, I find that whipping or kicking out the back of the bike helps me to control myself better in the air. Great video guys!

    I am not sure if I have been jumping for so long I don't notice doing it, but I feel like compressing the bike isn't always necessary, hell even dangerous in some cases, because if you have a lot of speed, bunny hopping in addition would send you to the moon.

    i feel like its important to note that if the jump has any real air time it is better to try to table the bike ( level it flat in air ) or kick the wheel out.. anything ( obviously get comfortable first ) if you DO some thing in the jump it both looks better but also gives your momentum something to do instead of ending up in a dead sailor kinda flight.. Showed this video to my wife and shes absorbing the information better than trying for me to teach her ( husbands cannot teach a wife sometimes cause well... Im an asshole then :) )
