He’s desperate for a theory and animal crossing is popular so let’s go grab some random mental illness Nintendo DEFINITELY thought of while making the game. The evidence is weak as a leaf and is easily torn apart and discarded.
Ah yes, the good ole “You thought this was a wholesome childhood game but its actually about the MC having a mental illness/in a coma/is dead and in purgatory” theory
I had this existential crisis when I went to my friend Sarah's island and she had a human skeleton in her house... a *normal* human skeleton. Regular human proportions.. I yelled "if that's a human, what are weeee?! Were goblins, or hobbits or very cute hairless dwarves!" Lol she just laughed, and sent me a skeleton as a gift to taunt me. Taunt me it does. What... why? HOW?!
It’s probably something similar to the owl scenario, so that skeleton may have been a wild human while you are a sentient villager. I don’t believe the theory in this video, but I do think that every species has a sentient and a non-sentient version, including humans.
Weird. I have O’Hare in my town, and one time he talked about his moms famous potato au gratin containing weeds. He said that “oh, you’re human, aren’t you?” Or something along those lines. Just something interesting to point out that the villagers themselves could be experiencing clinical lycanthropy, and our character is seeing them how they want to be seen in order to validate their experience. This brings up a lot of different possibilities of course. Love the video ❤️
Wait wait wait hold up... You are actually playing as a human who believes they're human. You get sent into this town/island as a sort of guardian to all the "animals". The "animals" are actually all just people with clinical lycnanthropy that is so bad for them that it makes it difficult to function. We act as a literal guardian to them, making sure they don't get into too much trouble, but since we're the only completely mentally healthy person there, we have to do basically everything in terms of upkeep, as well as decorating and otherwise keeping the residents happy. It's all a sort of "asylum" except it's more peaceful and protective than it is restrictive. After all, these people just believe they're animals, that doesn't necessarily mean they're violent, especially if they're kept happy, which is exactly why we're there. Either that or we're the victim of intense schizophrenia and the town/island is the asylum, and all the animals are employees/residents. Would explain why money is bells and stocks are turnips, because it's all fake, but made to seem real to keep the schizophrenic patients at bay. I hope I don't sound insane.
I'm surprised Disney hasn't come out against any of his Film Theory videos yet. They're _adamant_ about keeping their reputation pristine, even editing cigarettes out of old Walt Disney photos.
this one is disproven by many games in the series. Also Sans said he'd never wear a backwards cap in the Xbox version of Undertale thus disproving the "Sans = Ness" theorm.

I actually thought that he was gonna come up with something about how our character ends up hallucinating these animals so that our character doesn't feel lonely.
Honestly, yes, your "animal" neighbors can actually recognize what you changed in a mirror or vanity, cause I've been playing for a while, changed my hairstyle, my hair color and eye color and have had my neighbors commenting on it, saying simple phrases like "Hey, ____, I see you've changed your hairstyle or your eye color" yadda yadda They've even been commenting on my outfit like if I put on a different shirt or pants
Mine hardly recognized me, probably because i changed from female to male (I'm genderfluid agender, identified as male that day) and made my hair a crap-ton shorter.
@@memaymoo8088 Aight, then, 'whatever your name was, what made you think, that the information that you had gender dysphoria was something we needed to know?'
Okay but literally in the museum you can see a line in the floor that describes the evolution of living beings and you can clearly see that the villagers are just animals that have evolved into a more intelligent beings alongside humans. Besides, you can constantly see more humans all across the game, in your island, in other islands... Humans are just another species that live in the Animal Crossing world
Wait so u know how ape’s have humans features already and stuff so i see how a animal like that would evolve slowly into a human, but how does a frog or a bird evolve into two walking leg looking creature that’s suddenly as smart as humans? How did they evolve? Did a human and a frog have seggs or wtf
A few things, in the older animal crossing games you can’t just customize your character in a mirror, what about if you play multiplayer, obviously that other player character will be another human, some villagers have dialogue if you wear the animal costume associated with them where they comment that you’re dressed like them for example if you talk to kiki while wearing a cat costume
Also the off brand Easter Bunny is a serial killer, and the world is a post apocalyptic wasteland and we built our houses on graves (that's an older one, but it's a thing!)
Game Theory: Explaining how Mario has Antisocial Personality Disorder Luigi has Identity Crisis Kirby is a pink walking amoeba and Animal Crossing has clinical lycanthropy, bipolar, and schizoprenia Really, you have nothing on Nintendo, MatPat?
@@n124ajdx No, it's just looking too deep into it. This video is a nice educational video about lysanthropy, but the theory itself is very flimsy and does a lot of stretching and leaps of logic.
13:29 also in animal crossing when you get a bed and actually sleep in it you get a special feature when you can go to other peopls islands and see what they do but they cant see you, also there is also a lady there to help you do that (which could be the angel)
Hey Mat, So this is a small detail that you didn’t seem to pick up on, If you play in 2 player mode (not online) and speak to the dodo at the front desk of the airport he will say something along the lines of “Oh I see you are playing with your other human friends...” I advise you to check it out if possible
I mean, if the protagonist is crazy, we can't really trust his interpretation of what others say. Also, it's just a theory. The lore of video games often have a number of points that don't add up Or... alternatively... they are all just furries like the rest of the comment section suggests. While in their fursona, they wouldn't admit to being humans
The Idea of Animal Crossing game came to developer after he had to move from his hometown to other city for his job. He wanted to show in this game how did he feel when he moved. So yeah. He decided to portray strangers as animals.
So that means in this game, your Dad knows you have this condition, and is pretending to be an animal for you! This also explains why the other villagers think he’s so weird!
I knew a demon wolf boy in college. He was in my economics class and he said he could also control the weather, but there were no windows and he was tired. He'd also have me read his smutty fanfiction in the library whenever class got out early. Also also he'd follow me to my car every day and try to get in the back seat of my car and ask my to take him somewhere like a fast food place or gas station. Never did. A year after I dropped out, my calendar alarm went off and it said "sonso's birthday." The demon wolf boy had somehow put his birthday in my phone without me knowing.
When I showed my grandmother my animal crossing game, she thought the game was about helping animals cross the road. When I told her that it wasn't, she asked if it was about cross breeding animals.. *ah I love my grandma.*
This can’t be right, he said villager done stressful stuff, “moving out on a plane, staying alone and being in debt.” But on the plane he already saw animals, setting up his tent was with animals and his debt collector is a animal!
You move away from your family though. What if you had stress with that? You don't know what your future life will be like, and you already don't have any money. The fact that you see more animals over time could also mean that your life gets more stressful, right? Maybe most of them are hallucinations or something like that.
Thank you!! As soon as he mentioned the owl I thought he was going to talk about the evolution in the game that's clearly seen in the Museum. Off the wall theories are fun but this theory is easily dismissed.
Remember when everyone was talking about how the villager was a dead child and was stuck in purgatory while surrounded by its animal toys who walk and talk
If the character is in purgatory, then their chief lingering weakness is probably sloth. Think about it, the entire game is all about continuous work, it’s a lazy person’s worst nightmare. That said, being in purgatory means that the character would be guaranteed to be going Heaven, as purgatory is just a state of purification.
Why does everyone bring this up as if it's some kind of horrifying thing? We put gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees in zoos all the time. It's a regular zoo exhibit that nobody seems existentially horrified by, even though all those animals are apes just like humans are apes.
I forgot I had repressed memories of the "face eating guy" (I learned about him in high school) but I didn't know that they're were TWO Edit: I might as well say now that I'm Floridian(born and raised) I know to fear my own kind

What... why? HOW?!
it’s probably nothing serious lol, like how the characters can create fire in spongebob when they are under the sea
Animal Crossing humans are evolved from regular humans to be cuter and more compact
It’s probably something similar to the owl scenario, so that skeleton may have been a wild human while you are a sentient villager. I don’t believe the theory in this video, but I do think that every species has a sentient and a non-sentient version, including humans.

isn’t that the point though-
Or maybe they are just fictional animals
so now the theory is they're all crazy
MR. Sentient hey, it’s just for fun
I like your guys theories better.
