I change mine as close to 3K miles as close as possible. According to VIKINGS GARRAGE, OEM oil filter ok to change every other oil change, which I use OEM FILTER. I use 0w20 full synthetic super tech oil from WalMart. Just did my 13 RDX oil change today also at 3K interval, same oil and OEM filter..

I also got a TRD Off Road. It's close to 4 years old but only 22k km. I replaced the shifter knobs with Ellis Precision (recommend that) and switched the tires out to all terrains. I particular trim with the KDSS is just a joy to drive in the city and also off road. One day when I am no longer worried about clearing the entrance to my parkade I would like to get some more ground clearance. I love 4Runner.

The only problems I’ve had with my runner after a year was after I took it to the dealer. Scratches, breaking the center cap on one of the tires, breaking the tire sensors, not putting bolts back on, those youngsters are out of control. I’m not sure if they are overworked and lack experience, or they’re just not motivated to do a good job. I strongly recommend that you check out your dealer and do a lot of research before you choose one to do your maintenance for you.

Yea, I hear that, every time I take mine in for service it gets a new scratch or dent. They offer a free wash after service which I decline because they don't dry it off and the truck is black( spots) plus when it's wet u can't see scratches and dings. Dealer already had to pay mobile dent guy to fix my truck. Here's the worst part. When I bought the truck they brought it around for me to take. I did a walk around and saw a large ding/ dent in one of the the doors. If I didn't do a walk around they would have screwed me.

Hello! Im Ben. Saw your video on your new 2023 4Runner. Nice... The dealer has been telling me the same thing about oil changes at 10,000 miles. Don't wait the 10k change it at 5000 no matter what. Your owners manual tells you every 5000 or 5 months. They also told me that it was a misprint on the owners manual. That's BS. If you change your oil every 5k or a little bit before your gonna prevent damage on the piston rings and your gonna start seeing burning of oil as your engines ages. Trust me. I have 2021 4Runner Limited. I change mine every 4700 or 4800 miles.
Thats why Toyotas burn oil as they age because customers change their oil so late. Thanks you have a good one.

I had to immediately take it to a local dealer to get the wheels aligned because I was getting some steering wheel shake around 55-65 mph. Apparently this is a common issue with the TRD tires. Other than that, I'm really looking forward to driving this thing!

I have a 2021 T4R TRD Off Road, hit 33,000km now. One issue I have is the USB for Android Auto. If I move the cable in just the slightest it disconnects and reconnects, super annoying. Have bought different better quality cables as well but it is the physical port that moves around easily that causes a disconnect. Toyota replaced under warranty but I have the same problem. I rarely use it any as the music is degraded/lower quality compared to bluetooth connectivity.
For mods I have 285 Falken Wildpeaks AT3W, 1.25 in wheel spacers, Eibach Pro-Truck Stage 2 coilover suspension, Body Mount chop, and some other cutting. Had SPC UCA's but changed to JBA ones. Also small things like AEM air intake filter, and K&N cabin air filter.

I do my own every 5K because I'm keeping it a long time, I do some short trips and in traffic idling, so i'm in the manual's severe use category. Thats all it takes to qualify so the 10k thing is really for folks who do a lot of hiway and avoid short trips. According to the manual at least, take it for what it's worth.

Another thing to think about is where you live. In live in Northern Wisconsin and in the winter, there is additional engine run time just to warm it up the engine. For example, 10 to 20 minutes of warm up time twice a day, every day in winter, really puts a different perspective on oil life span. Just like squad cars that idol a lot, it's not just how many miles you put on the odometer. Just some thoughts.

If I were you, I would stick to 6k miles / 10k kilometers or 6 month intervals. After this mileage oil loses those key ingredients that make the oil preserve the engine that well and those extra miles you drive on a poor condition oil. However, if you drive freeway mostly, longer intervals are quite acceptable still. If you plan to keep the car for many years, dont go over 10k km. If you dont care and about to keep for 5 years max, she can handle even 25k intervals, you wont feel it. It is just with mileage oil simply loses its chemical compound and does not work as it did when it was new meaning that oil converts into sludge, it get hardened and gets stuck in tight spaces with micro tolerance like 1-2 millimeters and less, for example, the sludge gets stuck under the piston rings making them impossible work properly. Fresh new oil contains detergents that helps remove old oil remnants and the amount of the the detergents based on manufacturer, for example, Mobil 1 has far more detergents than other manufacturers like Pennzoil and others. It does not mean that Pennzoil is bad, it’s just it has less detergents, that’s it. So, these detergents do their best removing old oil but when sludge gets hard and stuck real bad in tight spaces, detergents cannot help real well.

On the older 4runner. There's also the needle bearing for the axle shaft causing slop in the driver's front cv that can cause a shake.

If you intend to get 200,000-plus miles out of your engine, you should change your oil every 5,000 miles. I've only had mine for 4 months and I've already put 10,000 miles on it. @@trainsandlocomotives You are possibly living in an alternate universe because the comment lacks any facts and is pure conjecture. Here’s why. Tell me one other 4x4 SUV of this size and class that gets significantly better fuel economy? There are none. If you had a similar vehicle that got 5 mpg better over a 100,000 mile period that a $3,000 savings. Now the 4Runner resale value is amongst the highest. My 2008 is still worth 12k and I only paid 29k for it 16 years ago. Never did any serious repairs, just brakes, tires , battery and fluid change etc. Try that on any other 4x4 SUV. My father in law bought his Mercury Mountaineer the same year, He still has it too, it’s value is about 3k (we have almost the same mileage too) and just got a repair bill $3,700 for a computer and torque converter. He had a new transmission put in last year which was another another$4000. Had new all new wheel bearings put in 3 years ago, another $1250. I m not ever covering most of the other stuff he had done. So who’s winning here? He vehicle was about the same price new and not a soul wants that car. My 2008 is highly desirable still and runs perfectly. If you want a gas sipper that’s fine, get a civic but you cannot compare a Civic with a 4Runner. If you live in the city…don’t buy a 4Runner. It’s not what they’re for….buy an Accord.
