@@arandomsquid6756 agreed. all of his monogatari complaints just feel like personal gripes or overexaggerations rather than valid criticism. monogatari is great at what it tries to be, if you don't like what it's trying to be, then it's just not for you. "i get overstimulated" yeah it's supposed to be overstimulating, it's not an easy comfort watch like a battle shounen or a romcom. the show isn't afraid to be a little intense or uncomfortable and that's really refreshing to me. "the dialogue is batshit insane" yeah it's supposed to be insane. a lot of scenes in monogatari are otherwise boring but are carried by the witty and entertaining dialogue. maybe not everybody wants dialogue like that in their shows, i personally enjoy it. "there is no sense of plot nor direction" a big theme of the series is confronting your inner demons and growing as a person. he complains a lot about the symbolism but i think it can help add depth to the characters' feelings and the way they grow. if he doesn't like the plot points being less material or obvious then that's fine, but to say the plot isn't there, or even that it's expressed poorly, is just false. you can grasp the plot of each arc by just paying attention, it's really not that hard. the sex themes in the show are sometimes treated as a gag, and since the story is fictional i'm not that badly bothered by it. but i can understand why some people would be. maybe i'm just desensitized from all the degenerate anime that has popped up over the years lol. i would never in a million years show monogatari to my mom, not because monogatari is a bad show or because my mom is a shallow person, monogatari just isn't the show for her. she wouldn't enjoy the sense of symbolism, she wouldn't enjoy the overstimulation, she wouldn't enjoy the sexual themes, etc. i think it's a lot more helpful to our collective understanding if we analyze art for what it is, recognizing its inherent qualities and the different perspectives with which we may experience them, instead of just boiling down everything to being "good" or "bad" based on whether we personally felt good or not while watching it, and then coming up with reasons to justify our feelings. i don't hate scrit or anything he can have his own opinion. but all of his takes on monogatari are just misses for me. sometimes i wonder if he genuinely dislikes the show or if he just hates it for the kick of it.
0:18 It more likely tells us that the word "mid" is undergoing a semantic shift similar to the one mediocre (which also used to mean something painfully average) underwent decades ago to be honest.
This video bring back a few thoughts: - Golden Kamuy is top anime, no matter all the problems with CGI it has. A show that can make you cry rivers in a moment just to break your ribs with laughter, from a dirty joke, literally 5 seconds later, is peak storytelling. - Frieren is an amazing show and I love it. I don't think is the top ever, but after so many years of really weak fantasy, it totally deserves the recognition. Maybe top 5 ever, IMO. - Brotherhood is a great show, I liked it, and I see why people love it so much, but I still think the first FMA is better. - Dragon Ball is a great show and I love it, but Dragon Ball Z and everything after is a repetitive, uncreative and uninteresting di*k measuring fest. I don't understand why people love it so much. Maybe for the older dudes like me it is nostalgy, but for younger people it just doesn't make sense. - Bleach have 17 chapters, before it transforms into a less honest, more boring Dragon Ball Z. Mid. Mid all the way to the present day. - For a show so praised for its humor, Konosuba barely made me smirk a couple times, and I had to leave it after the 5 chapter because it was insufferably boring. And no, I don't see how someone could like it. It is just not funny.
Really nice video and nice messages. However, I never expected to be attacked out of nowhere by liking Monogatari. Like, chill bro, if you don't like it just say so, no need for all of that.
Haha no true! 😂 And it goes against his point of: Oh this is well made but I dont like it... Cause he makes it sound like its a bad story which it ISNT but it definetly doesnt tell it normally. I dont think ive ever seen a series that has broken into the meat of what makes their characters tic the way Monogatari does, especially is the second season with hanakawa and best boy kaiki, but eh It does have wierd parts yes but it is still peak
Something that is special to someone cannot be special to everyone. Cuz if it is for everyone, that it’s not going to be special to anyone. It’s an objective fact. It’s like ppl who disagree with this idea is subscribing to that one Quantum Reviews guy who thought that anything that wasn’t for everyone “shouldn’t be made”. There’s SO much out there, rather than focusing on what they dislike, why not focus on the stuff that’s good? Also, if you liked Fieren. Check out Dunmeshi.
By the thumbnail I thought that you were going to do a character analysis and compare well-written stoic characters with boring characters, by for example comparing the two characters shown on the thumbnail. I thought that would be very interesting, but now that I'm 14 min into the video, I'm a little disappointed that you're probably not gonna do that at all 😆 Another thing is, I saw someone else in the comments of another video of yours say that you talk about certain groups of people putting them in a box based on your personal opinions of how you see them instead of actually seeing what they think, and I think I can see a bit of that here. But the biggest thing for me is that I find that in your videos it feels like I'm just chatting with someone saying their opinions on stuff, instead of watching an analysis on something, in the sense that I don't see much... valuable insight(?) or knowledge? being added here. Like, I'm probably going to do the same thing I did with the previous one I watched, which is to take it off of my "writing" playlist because it doesn't add anything really significant, it's just a guy saying his opinions. In my opinion, having your videos be strictly this overall, it diminishes their value. I watch these types of videos looking for an analysis of storytelling, to learn something. But I mean, if you're (I mean the viewers) just looking for a video that just looks like you're chatting with someone commenting their opinions, I guess it's fine.
Eh, fair critique I suppose. I think I wrote the script after just having watched Monogatari and was pissed at how bad it was compared to what people were saying about it. Although I'd also offer to you that any advice you're going to get about writing is going to be a matter of opinion. Maybe I could do more to extrapolate and provide a lesson, but I don't think I intended to teach as much as I intended to ponder with this video. Although, I could do a video on the difference between a stoic character and a boring character. People confuse this channel as media analysis, but it's really just open notes and the occasional thought experiment. If my experience and perspective teaches you something new, then that's cool. If not, then that's fine too. A lot of this is really just so I can work through ideas and reapply them to my own writing.
Just started the video. Would like to say that if I was watching paint dry in a rainstorm then that would be quite more stimulating than just watching paint dry on its own. 1 because the paint would get washed off so I wouldn’t be watching paint dry anymore, and I would be calmed by the rain and get scared of being struck by lightning and the thunder would keep me awake. That sounds like a very stimulating experience.
The biggest way I find my anime is by looking at the "similar to" section of some niche anime I liked. I end up finding even more niche anime I also really like! xD Iike Mushi-Shi a lot, so finding other anime like that is nice.
Yeah, I saw House of 5 Leaves with Showa Genruko Rakugo Shinjuu in the similar anime list and knew I had to see it. Same thing for Zombieland saga and Mayonaka Punch.
Bro, that point about monogatari was questionable. Color palette: matter of taste. I don't mind it, but it is quite unusual. Batshit insane dialogues: matter of taste. I like monogatari FOR batshit insane dialogues Araragi might be insufferable, but he isn't a pussy (because you literally show how he was dragged by his intestines across the room seconds later, and if you watched the show you know that he willingly went there, knowing what is going to happen, but still choose to suffer to save other person. That is not a pussy behaviour.) Unapologetic PDFfile... Yeah, okay, that point is quite valid. "Nonsensical" plot... skill issue, I'm sorry. I understand why you don't like it, but it's not as bad as you describe it.
3:25 What's crazy to me is while you were describing that 'feeling' you got, I was trying to relate and thought of Elden Ring myself as well. Elden Ring is already a major motivator for a story I wish to create and put out there. Now I might have to check Frieernr, Frierien, Freiren, I'll check the anime out. One more thing I just gotta say, Raya Lucaria was stunning once I finally got there. Sadly I waned my own experience and wonder by rushing more through the game every playthrough instead of taking my time exploring like I feel like I woulda liked doing more. On my next playthrough I'll try and ifx that, eh?
makes me think of the movie Violent, produced by "Amazing Studio" which is run by only three guys. Its an interesting movie. Very symbolic. Idk if its pretentious but the background "meaning" is said multiple times throughout, you just have to catch onto it.
Critics of Anime are slaves to their opinions. There is just so much of it that for one to like it all you’d need to love the form instead of the story. Anime has a great way of being enthusiastic about itself - the deep dive into its own nature and lore. The in-depth instruction of its topic, and the characters that are Otaku for it. I ❤️ Anime … kit & kabuttle
I don't think any show is perfect. And I don't think watching something just because is going to make you bitter in anyway. Like you said you can find good things in bad stories. As well as you can see bad things in good stories. Especially when you are the type to have low expectations when something becomes overly popular. You only want to see the bad because everyone else likes it. Because you just want to get the conversation over with. Which isn't fair to the people that enjoy the conversations. Juat because you didn't understand something that was popular or highly rated doesnt make it boring or mid. Maybe it wasn't made for you. Maybe you are not realizing what sort of people made it during the time it was made. Something over twenty years old may not resonate with you. As well as you could see something resonate with you even when nobody understands it. You can still habe conversations trying to understand each other. Trying to have empathy with those around you even when it is hard to do. Tanjiro is one of the best characters in recent years to show that. To show empathy to the person you just can't agree with. To love them enough to understand what they are going through. Even if you don't like it or down right hate it.
I feel like the message gets undermined a bit when you do the exact thing you criticize less than a few minutes after you criticize it. I haven't even watched *any* Monogatari and I think that whole spiel was excessive.
Hey I acknowledge Frieren is good but, Full metal alchemist brotherhood > Attack on Titan > Hunter x Hunter > One piece > Ranking of Kings > Frieren Like it just isn't better than all of these shows. It's just recency bias.
Maybe Ranking of kings and Brotherhood can get close, but all the others are not in the same league as Frieren, recency bias or not. There are better fantasy animes, though.
Let's see, the one I recently watched that was good was Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan, similar to Frieren in terms of writing quality, but can be better or worse I'd put Gushing Over Magical Girls on here, but while there's nothing really bad about it, there's also nothing really too great But both are enjoyable, so...
Your explanation of your feelings on Evangelion reminded me of my feelings about FLCL. I understand why people like it, but it is so erratic and just a bit too much for me. And the characters didn't really conmect with me. I like slower-paced stuff that takes its time telling its story. Some fast-paced stuff is neat (I unironically enjoy Hardcore Henry, for one), but others just lose my interest and overstimulate.
I dont think high expectations is a bad thing because we have all seen how insanely good it can be nowadays. I mean it’s 2024 and soon there will be a new standard
thats how I feel about the alien franchise and as a fan of horror could never get into it, I was interesting in everything else except for the xenomorphs focused stories
Heh, two of the highest rated anime of the previous year are stories about what happens after the hero's story and a girl who basically came whenever she was being poisoned... Wild times honestly.
Very uncommon for 2 of the highest rated anime to have female protagonists at the helm. Three if we count Dunmeshi, cuz even tho Laios is the MC, it’s got an assemble cast and Marcille was a huge star from it.

@@natalimoina What if they just find it boring? There are several videos on UA-cam explaining why Demon slayer is poorly written so people would find it boring for the same reasons those critics see it poorly written. One of the main critiques is that it has very shallow characters and the plot is too basic. And what “immature reasons” might there be?
@@usernameunderdevelopment And not a single one of those videos is well made or well researched unfortunately (maybe there's a good low popularity video on it that has less than 1000 views or something I haven't seen idk, but the popular ones are all sensationalism). The critiques are so poor and filled not even with opinions, but tons of objectively wrong information. All of them just riding its wave of popularity and seething with enough jealousy to make videos about the series, some of them even admitting to that themselves. You simply can't call its characters shallow as each one is filled with plenty of depth in the story. Every argument of its kind just ignores 99% of the character and looks at them not even on the surface level lol. The plot is basic ofc, 99% of stories' plots are basic. That's kinda the point of a plot. Only a handful of stories out there in any medium with plots that aren't basic and that's probably because they are convoluted. Immature reasons like jealousy mostly, attention as well, listening to others without forming their own opinion, etc.
2:00 I thought frieren was boring, because the writing style is so different from brainrot that i had to drop, but i returned after i was sorely mistaken
From the thumbnail, I think calling demon slayer boring is an injustice to just how truly terribly written it actually is. I do think more people need to realize that it’s okay to realize something isn’t for you though while still being well written. Great points.
Can't tell if this is a joke or if your reading comprehension is that poor, but if that's the case, I wish the you the best of education as it is sorely needed

@@azylan Couldn't have said better myself.
I think the same.
0:18 It more likely tells us that the word "mid" is undergoing a semantic shift similar to the one mediocre (which also used to mean something painfully average) underwent decades ago to be honest.
This video bring back a few thoughts:
- Golden Kamuy is top anime, no matter all the problems with CGI it has.
@@shortgiraffe2031 Agreed.
I thought that would be very interesting, but now that I'm 14 min into the video, I'm a little disappointed that you're probably not gonna do that at all 😆
Another thing is, I saw someone else in the comments of another video of yours say that you talk about certain groups of people putting them in a box based on your personal opinions of how you see them instead of actually seeing what they think, and I think I can see a bit of that here.
It's ok to have your own opinion👍
Bro, that point about monogatari was questionable.
Color palette: matter of taste. I don't mind it, but it is quite unusual.
Batshit insane dialogues: matter of taste. I like monogatari FOR batshit insane dialogues
Araragi might be insufferable, but he isn't a pussy (because you literally show how he was dragged by his intestines across the room seconds later, and if you watched the show you know that he willingly went there, knowing what is going to happen, but still choose to suffer to save other person. That is not a pussy behaviour.)
Unapologetic PDFfile...
Man... every time you upload I just get so happy, thank you so much for making my days.
YOOOO AMAZING VIDEO (I JUST STARTED)
I feel the same
Yes, Skinnamarink. You could argue it was a weirdcore movie.
I feel like the message gets undermined a bit when you do the exact thing you criticize less than a few minutes after you criticize it.
I haven't even watched *any* Monogatari and I think that whole spiel was excessive.
i was going to say the same thing , but i guess we had high expectation but turned out be mid
Hey I acknowledge Frieren is good but,
Full metal alchemist brotherhood > Attack on Titan > Hunter x Hunter > One piece > Ranking of Kings > Frieren
Like it just isn't better than all of these shows. It's just recency bias.
ranking of kings was good but has too many issues to be an all-timer
there all including frieran is in the same tier
Maybe Ranking of kings and Brotherhood can get close, but all the others are not in the same league as Frieren, recency bias or not. There are better fantasy animes, though.
Freiren is good. But nothing can beat Berserk imo.
Is the thumbnail a sign of your argument? Because if so, it's prob with some flaws.
Let's see, the one I recently watched that was good was Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan, similar to Frieren in terms of writing quality, but can be better or worse
I'd put Gushing Over Magical Girls on here, but while there's nothing really bad about it, there's also nothing really too great
But both are enjoyable, so...
I would prefer to watch a bad show over a boring show cuz then I can have a laugh at how bad it is, get angry, or actually feel any type of emotion
0:58 “ooh this one spot on the wall is about to dry- ahhh damn it”
why does the thumbnail contains the word stoic, scirt?
Your explanation of your feelings on Evangelion reminded me of my feelings about FLCL. I understand why people like it, but it is so erratic and just a bit too much for me. And the characters didn't really conmect with me. I like slower-paced stuff that takes its time telling its story. Some fast-paced stuff is neat (I unironically enjoy Hardcore Henry, for one), but others just lose my interest and overstimulate.
You're god damn right
I dont think high expectations is a bad thing because we have all seen how insanely good it can be nowadays. I mean it’s 2024 and soon there will be a new standard
thats how I feel about the alien franchise and as a fan of horror could never get into it, I was interesting in everything else except for the xenomorphs focused stories
Wait alien is a horror movie?
Have you seen dungeon meshi it’s a great Fantasy anime, it has amazing world building.
Yeah I saw it. Made me wanna play a DnD campaign focused on cooking mechanics tbh
@@ma.2089 hell that makes it sound a less un common when you put it that way and I never even noticed. You got Jolene from Jojo, Anya from spy family, kaguya sama, riko from made in abyss, and chisato and takane from lycoris recoil.... I'm also not sure I should include heavenly delusion or not since that one is complicated.
Thumbnail is the worst bait
No lots of people actually hate Demon slayer, I believe it
@@usernameunderdevelopment Sure, still not boring though, and respectfully, the majority of those people are anime fans who don't understand the first thing about telling a proper narrative and hate it for very immature reasons. Also in this instance, it is most certainly just low effort bait to bring in views, even admits it in the description.
@@natalimoina Nah
Oh no, not DeMid Slayer!
my goat Scrit uploading a another peak video
GINTAMA MENTIONED?!?!🎇🎇🦅🇺🇸
the elf show is indeed overrated (I JUST STARTED)
the show or the video? cos ur giving off the energy that you just started both lmao
2:00 I thought frieren was boring, because the writing style is so different from brainrot that i had to drop, but i returned after i was sorely mistaken
just like Re Zero
Maaaaan halfway into the video and I'm hit with the overwhelming feeling to play persona 5....
That Wistoria comment is crazy 😂
Why is he talking in 0.5 speed?? That's what i hate about video analysis 😞
What’s that third anime review channel in 9:01 . I recognize the thumbnail but the name is an escaping me.
Hey, bro mentioned Mushoku Tensei! Gonna make a video on it?
I don't really wanna make videos which are solely about one show or thing tbh.
@@ScritRighter Eh, I kinda meant more of a video on really great stories with some really bad elements. I think it could be interesting, like the really bad pedo stuff in Mushoku Tensei and other anime. Or you could include stuff like the racism or sexism in a lot of older media. Like, a video discussing ways to think about good things with some disgusting traits
@@coolcommcollect There is unfortunately a trio of 'good' shows which have been ruined by their need to sexualize children. Dunno how much I wanna go into that, but maybe in a pet peeves video or something.
I'm sorry, but volleyball ?
Tricked me
I like the hollow feeling of bakemonogatari but the plot and the characters are so fucking bad
Honestly, mid is fine. Like, Demon slayer. Its barley mid, but that's okay.
I'm watching this video while playong elden ring 😂
U top 5 bro
Mid...
