    From Wikipidea
    For 1992, Cadillac delivered a new, European-flavored Seville with positive reviews as well as customers. The Seville Touring Sedan was Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year for 1992. It also made Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list that year.
    The 1993 limited edition of the Northstar System, including the Northstar quad-cam 32-valve aluminum V8 and a new unequal-length control arm rear suspension to the STS helped the Seville increase sales.
    The rear suspension previously featured a single transverse leaf spring like the Chevrolet Corvette. The wheelbase was back up to 111 in (2,800 mm) with a 203.9 in (5,180 mm) overall length.
    Cadillac made few styling changes during this generation, but switched the grille from chrome to body color for the 1995 model year.
    The Seville was divided into two sub-models:
    The Seville Luxury Sedan (SLS) started with the 4.9 L HT-4900 V8 but got a 270 hp (200 kW) LD8 Northstar V8 for 1994
    The Seville Touring Sedan (STS) also started with the 4.9 L HT-4900 in 1992 but was upgraded to the 295 hp (220 kW) L37 Northstar in 1993
    Pricing on both cars was over US$40,000.
    The IIHS rated the 1992-1997 Seville "Poor" in the frontal offset crash test.
    In 1997, the Cadillac Catera took over from the Seville as Cadillac's smallest car.

    Indeed they are and this example you have has aged like fine wine. I hope it has found a responsible new owner who will take care of it and not use it as a daily commuter. Most people don't realize Northstar Cadillac's are high maintenance and should be treated like BMW's and Jags. Cadillac's have changed since the Northstar came out and are no longer the low maintenance-boat towing rigs they used to be.

    The fogginess in the taillights doesn't count as damage because ALL of these cars have the same problem. The lights have small holes on the top of them, and humidity gets through them. There is no way of avoiding the fog unless you close the holes with clay or rubberized glue or something.

      +scully really nice and hold up very well if maintained properly. My mother still drives her 1994 Seville SLS and its got over 280k on it. Its been the best running and most reliable car we ever owned. Owned it since 1999 and after all these years we still enjoy driving it. The Northstar engines are very well built and are high tolerance performance engines. If they are maintained properly as with any other car, they will last a long time. Internally they are very durable engines. I work at Cadillac and I have worked on these engines before. The older Cadillac's are much much much better than any of the new Cadillac's. The DTS and STS models were really the last of the big V8 sedans of the newer generation. I can tell you right now that the newest cars are not going to hold up very well and are going to depreciate very fast. The 90's and early 2000's were good years for Cadillac and GM in general. Hope this helps.....

    • @starxlr7863
      @starxlr7863 7 років тому +4

      The Northstar system was the biggest selling point about these cars and more than ever before. Best engine ever put into a Cadillac hands down! Styling wise, personally the Seville and the Eldorado were two of the best styled cars of the 90s era. The 90s era was an era of a bunch of ugly looking and round cars. Only a few other choices to include Lincoln were also great cars of the era too.

    • @Anonymous-yh4ew
      @Anonymous-yh4ew 7 років тому

      I prefer the LT1 V8 they put in old Caddies and Buicks. Extremely reliable and easy to maintain with cheap parts, same with a Ford Modular 4.6. The Northstars were reliable if you diligently maintained it as it was not a forgiving engine, much like Mercedes of the 90s. In my opinion, these Cadillacs were more of an American take on a European luxury sports sedan than a land yacht like a Town Car is. In all honesty, I would rather buy used AMG from the 90s than a Cadillac with the Northstar but I can see why the Northstar was a selling point compared to the extremely expensive Mercs when they were new. Overall, owning a used Caddy with a Northstar isn't worth it in my opinion.

    • @starxlr7863
      @starxlr7863 7 років тому +1

      Old Cadillac's never had an LT1 V8 in them. That was an optional engine for the 90s brougham cars and not built by Cadillac. The Northstar 32v V8 is a very durable and efficient running performance engine that is up there among the european engines. Lincoln also made the Intech 4.6L also with 32 valve and DOHC just like the Northstar and are fantastic. THey are very forgiving when properly maintained just like anything else.

    • @starxlr7863
      @starxlr7863 7 років тому +2

      Nope not true. That came later when GM introduced Dexcool antifreeze that was a problem for all GM vehicles. It is strictly a coolant related problem.

    • @jacknapier9026
      @jacknapier9026 7 років тому

      AMCNorthstar 93 That coolant may have played a role in it but those short head bolts on those blocks were a major reason for those engines to fail....then Cadillac made them longer in the 2000 and up.

    • @starxlr7863
      @starxlr7863 7 років тому +3

      Coolant was the main problem. The head bolts are not the problem. What your thinking of is the thread size that was changed for 2004 to coincide with the coolant as was done with several other GM engines. When the coolant is flushed out when needed, nothing goes wrong. It when the coolant turns acidic that causes the problems which all started with Dexcool in late 1996. Dexcool was a problem across the board for all GM engines.

    • @jacknapier9026
      @jacknapier9026 7 років тому +2

      AMCNorthstar 93 look...all that shit contributed, that coolant,those short ass bolts (I wouldn't mention them if I didn't read about them) that coolant reservoir hose fitting breaking, the cooling fans failing....overall it was and still is a great *powerful* engine, I love my mint condition 2007 DTS with only 54,000 miles it took me forever to find it that perfect... so happy motoring! 😉

    • @starxlr7863
      @starxlr7863 7 років тому +4

      Well great I'm glad that you own and drive a Northstar Cadillac! I didn't realize you had one. Maintain your car properly and it will last you a very long time. But the first generation Northstar engine from 93-99 were also very good and very well built even from any negative reading you may have found. Remember the problems started when Dexcool came out. Head bolts were never short as they remained the same size all through production. Just to give you an example, I own myself a 93 Allante with the Northstar V8 with 122k, 00 STS and an 05 Deville. My parents have a variety as well but mother drives a 94 Seville SLS with close to 280k on it. Another Seville that my parents had was a 95 SLS that is owned by a family member with over 330k. Believe me that those early Northstar's are some strong running engines. And just like anything else when maintained properly, they will run forever. I also work at a Cadillac dealer and talk to people like yourself every day. But yes Happy Northstar motoring :)

      Both engines were available. And I already had the 4.9 and that was terrible! Not only did I have bad head gaskets and overheating which I did get fixed, but then the rocker rails under the valve covers decided to go south. They broke into pieces! The northstar bypassed all of that junk and are so much better.

    nothing like an old school caddy... what happened to the sts by the way...? as of 2011 the production stopped. is gm thinking of a replacement anytime soon? meanwhile we have disgraceful crossovers like the xts...but there currently is no midsize sedan...only the saab 9-3 based-cts sedan, the new ultra~compact ats, and the new full size xts. but no midsize?! imo cadillac should def bring back the pimp cars (like the fleetwood brougham) of the 70s 80s and 90s...true old school :-D

      The newer Seville from 1998-04 and the STS from 05-11 are all just as good as the 92-97 Seville. But like you said, the newest Cadillac's are not the same and lust the excitement they use to have like this 93 STS.

      Very true AMC. Despite sure the new Caddy autos have all advance tech on today's car, but the excitement is not the same comparing to the 90's Caddy's. Not even close!!!!

    The Northstar engine has to be one of the worst engines ever made. Not because of quality but when it needs service you will be paying a pretty penny to get it serviced. My dad had a 93 and he had to get rid of it because the fuel pump was so expensive I now have a 92 with the 4.9 and its reliable and cheaper to get serviced

      Mini Moto
      I use to have the 4.9L PR in my 91 Seville but I sold it. I now have a 2000 Pontiac GTP with a 3.8SC that is TWICE the engine. It's been known to go up to 400,000 miles with mild care and attention. It's also more powerful than a It is close to being as powerful as a Northstar without the hassle. Get one if you can.

      zzzhuh Lol coincidentally my dad had a '05 and not too long ago the frame went bad before the engine. It was quick and a lot of people in Michigan have them.

      +Mike Will The Northstar engines are one of Cadillac's Best engines. There is a reason why they made it for almost 20 years and in several different GM cars including Pontiac Buick and Oldsmobile. The Northstar engine is also popular on some Custom Race Boats, Dune Buggy's and some custom cars. I have two of them and they have been the best running and most reliable cars we ever owned. Very powerful and low maintenance engines if you keep up on regular maintenance. Keep up with regular maintanance on any other engine as well as the 4.9L V8, and it will run forever.
