Great video thank you for sharing. Would you recommend that a podiatrist perform surgery of this condition or would you recommend a orthopedic surgeon that specializes in the foot? I have a dorsal bunion with arthritis in my big toe joint.
I’m having the same problem with my toe does wearing the special made boot helpful is there a cure for this problem I have a ten yr old and I want to be able to run and enjoy life with her
I have really bad joint pain, from herniated disks up and down my neck and spine. About two months ago started to get bad sciatica pain from the right side of my hip all way to my leg. Also started to feel bad pain with bottom part of my right foot, underneath the toe area. Went to a podiatrist and he says caused by sciatica and didn't prescribe anything. Pain is back. He did say I have a bunion although I don't really see one.
Paul, if you wear an orthotic with a rigid plate like this to purposely limit big toe extension, isn't that going to cause gait problems and possibly injuries in other ways? You would have to compensate somewhere else for that lost range of motion, right?
Yes, but not having rolling shows or that inner sole will too cause you to walk strange, as it hurts to walk straight.. I know, cause I too have it. MBT shoes has made all the difference for me 🥰
I want to treat it without buying an expensive orthodotic. I want to heal it in a natural way so I can enjoy my life again, this is so depressing for me
im 31 and i think i may have this ..... this cant be it for my toe surely? the end of being able to run and do push ups etc etc?? please there has to be a fix?
I have had this for over 10 years and I have tried everything under the sun besides surgery. I will tell you nothing works, if you have the chance to get the surgery, do it. I never did it because doc told me I would have to keep my foot elevated for 6 weeks after and I knew I just couldn't do that. I'm in my 40's and have knee pain on that side because of walking oddly for ten plus years. In the meantime however, I highly recommend Hoka shoes, the Bondi8 model is incredibly comfortable for those of us with this problem.
@@ajs96350hello Ajs and Sora! Anyone one of did surgery. I have had this issue for close to 3yrs now. The leg hurts and sometimes hurts so much at night. I have also avoided surgery because I’m afraid I may never my heeled shoes again. Now right shoes get damaged in few months because of walking old and my knee and ankle is forever painful too.
Same, I'm 36 but have been dealing with this for years now. Our only options are to try to find something that manages the pain in the meantime since arthritis doesn't get better on its own. And then eventually surgery
I have Hallux Rigidus, the bone spur limits the type of shoe I can wear. The bottom of my big toe has pain in certain shoes. Some pain In walking . I have had consultation and always the doctor insists on toe fusion. I like for my toes to bend. I’m still not convinced to comment to an invasive surgery.
I have had hallux rigidus for about 10 years, most of those years I have been pain free, - sometimes it flairs up and is very painful, however with proper stretching of my leg (thigh, hams, calves etc) it becomes pain free again. Maybe this will help you
About 3 weeks ago, I had pain on the top of my right foot and left me walking very cautious as it hurt to bend. It lasted about a week and the pain subsided. well fast forward 2 weeks I have developed a pain on my second toe that is on my right foot. I cant not bend it down, in fact its felt like its gotten worse over the past 3 days. I fell as if I dropped something very heavy on it but nothing has happen to my toe. What could have cause this to happen and what are some things I can do to relieve the pain?
I was just diagnosed with hallux rigidus. I’m confused. I have no pain in the first toe/metatarsal. I have pain in the 2nd metatarsal on the top going down to the bottom.
Hello! My podiatrist also told me that I have hallux rigidus in my right big toe. Is it normal to have this issue in your early 50’s? He recommended hoka shoes that I wear now and a carbon fiber plate. I also have an ointment that I apply whenever I can…it has helped but he has also suggested surgery. Is there no way for it to heal without surgery? TIA
I'm 45 and I had surgery 3 years ago. I did the minimally invasive option, where I just removed bone spurs. I gained back mobility and I can run, hike and cycle without issues. Minor pain sometimes. But most days pain free.
@@PatrikSandinFTW wow! Thank you so much for replying… I have been with this pain for some years now😕I can’t wear any shoe that has even a little bit of elevation plus even walking is painful. I was told about two kinds of surgeries one to remove the bone spurs and other where they insert some kind a gel. I am just so confused what to go for…thanks to you now I can make some decision.
I’m only 20 years old and I just played soccer today for the first time in awhile and I’m not able to lift my right big toe up but I can put it down but not up and when I try my hardest to lift it up I can’t and I feel my inner thigh starting to hurt, do you have an idea it could be this?
Good question Lisa! So, when the toe hurts so bad you can't function well and your activity level drops, having the fusion gets rid of the pain and overall activity goes up. A well fused toe with a little extension can act like a "rocker" and not alter the gait too much.
@@OrthoEvalPal Your guy waited too long. He has major calcification. Dumb. I fixed my problem. I also use Celtic sea salt. The processed table salt causes those deposits on the toe. I have perfect flexibility and no more swollen big red toes.
Hi there, I enjoyed the video. I was wondering if laying on the stomach with the toes pointing down with small weights attached to them, so it's like pulling the toe. I was thinking this may partially separate the joint so the bones don't jam against each other as much. What do you think?
I promise any muscle or joint that hurts or not working properly is due to lack of use, it’s all in the running and walking form; are you using your toes? Most people don’t even notice they use their heals more than their toes.

What if you are a ballet dancer and want to continue to dance where you have to bend your toe. I’ve been experiencing so much pain and stiffness in my left big toe and it’s really holding me back.
Definitely recommend an orthopedic foot specialist familiar with ballet. The important thing here is getting a proper diagnosis. (ie, tendinitis, arthritis, sesamoiditis, plantar plate injury, etc...)

If it is painful, you should see on orthopedic specialist or podiatrist
