Beautifully tender and emotive song. First heard it during college years (back in the day) and am still listening to it today. Some great, great bands back then… Pale Saints, MBV, House of Love, Lush, etc
Perfect 90s Indie guitar jangle.I have to admit I hadn't listened to The Pale Saints for a long time.Time to break into my collection and find those old 12 inches!
This is the first Pale Saints song that I've heard on the radio, on a Brazilian indie show called Novas Tendências by DJ José Roberto Mahr (the Brazilian version of John Peel). It was the year my father died, after a long battle with cancer, this caused a huge financial debacle on my family, it was my first year at university, Brazil was in a middle of a tragic economic and political crisis, my childhood beloved friends flew away to live in Germany.... My den was my room, my vinil records and some CDs (at the time VERY expensive). I have the original "the Comforts of Madness" . It still one of my old discs that I've listen almost in a weekly basis ("The Colour of Spring" , by Talk Talk; the first House of Love album, "Whirlpool" , Chapterhouse; "Grace", from Jeff Buckley, "The Pink Opaque" compilation, by the Cocteau Twins and "the Sensual World", Kate Bush are the others).
You have excellent taste in music 🎶 I was lucky enough to see pale saints back in the day - once in London ( w opening act slowdive) & once in Los Angeles years later, they were sublime both times...it's amazing how great music travels the world 🌐🗺️🌎👍🎶
I'm 51 and had never heard this song before I had s chance listening on 6 music last year. I'm a massive music fan, had been aware of the name, but wow.
i got their 12” EP with Sight of you (Barging into the presence of God methinks) right as it came out in 1989, when I lived in Montreal, and it lived on my turntable for many weeks. Why is it that so much music of today does not even approach this level of pure musical majesty? Speaking of God, God how I wish we still had local record shops playing this kind of stuff on vinyl when you walked in on Saturday mornings the week it came out. Every Saturday during this era I bought records that I cherish to this day; Pale Saints, Stone Roses, Throwing Muses, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, etc. No more record shops now, just pubs playing boring Spotify playlists of bland pap. I know I sound like a grumpy old curmudgeon ("When I was a young man... blah blah blah). Yet music and music listening seem incredibly dumbed down since this era. I will go put this vinyl on my turntable (!) right now and listen at full volume. Thank you and RIP Graeme!
What a beauty. Thank you for this! Just picked up the comp on vinyl at Wax Records in South Florida, and despite my not knowing of the compilation's exist beforehand, the information on the japanese obi sold me. After hearing this and Baby Maker, I haven't looked back.
Most definitely past-due a massive comeback, they most certainly deserve it - as did the my bloody valentine, slowdive, lush & most recently Ride reunion/comebacks, each quite successful & wonderful ...
Love this song. Still remember going into Rough Trade near Covent Garden asking for the Barging into the presence of God EP and getting blank responses! I got it though and cherish it still. Like others have commented, how amazing to see them again one day even though sadly depleted
all pale saints track is perfect including this one and also i love Spoonfed Hybrid records too . they made very original music with deeply soul. touched my heart and soul.
I saw these guys support The Primitives back in the gods know when and blew them away. Never seemed to get the recognition from the music press they deserved
This song was, is, and always will be a classic and the fact that it only has 20k views absolutely breaks my heart. Unlistenable trash? Millions of views. Music that touches me to my very core? Overlooked by the masses. Disappointed but not surprised.
The first song I heard of them was Time thief it was a concert of them in pairs early 90's. Wath a discovery it was. I recorded the rest of the concert 4 glorious song including this one. Damn I want to find this tape again!
sad to see a classic not reach even a hundred thousand views, went here months ago and only 10k plus views has been added which means this is still obscure as heck.
Wow!, If that is Ian Masters singing on the video without the mop-top hairdo. The past 25 years was sure tough on him physically after he left Pale Saints.
Graeme Naysmith, Guitarist for Pale Saints (1967-2024). RIP
Listening to this after hearing the news Graeme has passed away ....great song, good times , sad sad news
Pale Saints, Mazzy Star, Lush, Slowdive, The Cranberries, Frente!, Cocteau Twins, Echobelly, Elastica, Sleeper, Drugstore, The Sundays. ❤️
Extraklasse
MBV
Lush and MBV, the Jesus and Mary Chain
You forgot Slowdive !
Tintin yes!
I know a reunion isn't on the cards, but this is good enough. Ride, Chapterhouse, The Stone Roses, Moose. Top bands. Top era
I love Moose.
@@budybradley8257 The first version I ever heard of this song was Ride's cover
Digging the cthulu balaclava. We got one for our lad last year.
New Order in the middle...
What an era in musical history. Yeah? You BET! Well, hell, I'd bet on it!
before the term "shoegazing" came into use, this band were a huge influence on ride with songs like this.
massively underrated song, should be one of the most iconic ones

@@MrDLOC11 I would have loved to see them live. If only I had a Pale Saints t-shirt.
O nome desse estilo é shoegaze, certo? Que nem My Bloody Valentine e Ride?

João Inácio Great story. Thanks for sharing.
One of the few albums that I can still just put on and listen to front to back, such an experience
Wow. Suddenly, I'm in my early 20's again!!
Love the pale saints, comforts of madness in my top 10 albums of all time. And I’m an old git, so that’s a lot of time

The sight of you. The sight of you makes me feel blue, I feel so blue.

One of the top teen songs of my life. Love.
One of my favorite songs from the 90s
I'm 51 and had never heard this song before I had s chance listening on 6 music last year. I'm a massive music fan, had been aware of the name, but wow.

❤️This is the best thing to happen in 2020. A very soulful thank you to Ian Master and Pale Saints for this masterpiece.
if this song came out today it would be the best song of the year
Holy Christ, a Pale Saints video! And for the correct mix of the song, too!
Absoltuely great. What more can I say? What did I love about music when I was young? When it felt like this. Thank you, The Pale Saints.
3 seconds in, I'm in tears.. Beautifully sad. 💔
I feel your sorrowful bliss. It is enticing, 4 sure!

Just immense. Remember buying this in Rough Trade in Neals Yard. Glorious gigging days
Incredible. How am I just now discovering this song???
Dude, I lived through the shoegaze movement and somehow I missed this.
Beautiful.
Most definitely past-due a massive comeback, they most certainly deserve it - as did the my bloody valentine, slowdive, lush & most recently Ride reunion/comebacks, each quite successful & wonderful ...
seminal, influential, essential...it has molded me throughout the years...

It's so true... brilliant song. I'm reminded of a song title by the Minutemen- "The roar of the masses could be farts" from Double Nickels on the Dime
72K Cheer Up :)
That only tells you that beauty is for the rare... I love that...

Wow!, If that is Ian Masters singing on the video without the mop-top hairdo. The past 25 years was sure tough on him physically after he left Pale Saints.
Cut him some slack, he's pushing 60. Not too many guys hang onto their hair by then. I recognised him straight away.
Just wow this has made my day x
This song is a different vibe
MAN THIS SONG HOLDS UP…
