Lyrics:
Since you've been gone
Staring at your photograph
And I know it won't be long
An' I know you're coming back
Hard to believe that this band will never grace a stage live again. RIP, Tony and John. Your music will live on forever.
I wish they could be alive. 😢 alot of people don't understand the things these people give us.😢
I wish that has well my brothers..
RIP Tony Lewis. The unmistakable voice of the Outfield.
Unmistakable is absolutely correct!!! Love the Outfield!!! So sad. 😢😢
😭So true.♡
So sad.
Rest In Peace this song on of the best I listen to in my childhood still one of the best IMO now I can drum it ps l was born in the 2000s
I am sad to hear this, he was great and they were a great band.
My friend I’ve known since’81 turned me on to them! He was a drummer & would play their songs for me he was amazing just like them. He passed few weeks ago. Our song was “No Surrender” miss him❤
...i am very very sorry for your huge loss, "Prayers"🙏🤲🕊️✨😢💞🌻💖🏡💒 🌻🌻🌻🌻
R.I.P. Tony Lewis! You will be remembered as one of the greatest 80’s vocalist and The Outfield as one of the greatest 80’s band that got to hit the world with those songs!
😓
:'(
YOU ARE RIGHT.🌓
One of the greatest musical evolutions of the 80's. This and other groups added greatly to the biggest change in musical styles we ever seen. I lived through those days, it was amazing all the choices in music to choose from to listen to.
When did he die? I never heard it on the news:(
The Outfield is a rare case of a band that doesn't have a single bad song in all of their great discography.
I've only listened to Play Deep
And 'Talk to me' is Pretty Bad....
Is just My opinion though
@s b For me 'Talk To Me' is one of the best on 'Play Deep', the weakest is 'I Don't Need Her' really...
I like all the songs on play deep, and all but one for Voices of Babylon. That would be "makin' up"
I have the album with the "Josie's on a vacation far away", song.Every song on it is good.
I love I Don’t Need Her.. But music appreciation is subjective.. RIP Tony Lewis.. Xx j
Staring at a photograph, lying awake at night, not being able to stop thinking about a lost love. This is so spot on. People don’t write songs like this anymore.
Exactly 💯
Someone would if the masses called for it.
Sadly... they don't.
☮
@@McRocket Sorry, what are you listening to these days if you think this is the zenith of song lyrics??
@SpammyJenkins I said 'songs like this'.
I did not comment on the lyrics per se. And I sure did not say these lyrics were the 'zenith' of music lyrics.
Try not putting words in people's mouths, troll.
Bye now.
✌️
@@McRocket apologies, that wasn't expressly aimed at you. I'm not trolling, and it's fine to love any music that floats one's boat. I was simply staggered that so many in these comments think this anodyne lyric is anything noteworthy let alone inspirational. I was actually after the Rainbow song, which is equally insipid, lyric wise. And possibly musically as well.
How I miss 80s music. :( Best times and best music of my life. I'm 54 and play 80s music every day. It's 98 percent of my collection. This is my all time favorite Outfield song.
I'm 53 and exactly the same here lol
On Friday nights MTV shows a Metal Mania all 80's videos love it👍
80s best music & best time of my life need a time machine.
I’ll be 56 in April same here !
Right there with ya friend !!!
My late wife absolutely loved The Outfield and their music will always bring me memories of her!
So sorry for your loss. I hope you are doing ok and wish you all the best. Long may The Outfield continue to provide memories of your wife for you.
This song always makes me think of my family that's gone even though this is kinda a love song ...😢❤
Literally just found out that Tony passed, and it made my eyes well up in tears. These guys were legends when I was in high school. Such an incredible sound. No music will EVER touch the 70s and 80s.
Your right
You got that right!! I was a steel worker for 26 years and drummer for 30. They were great. Peace to all
I’m so glad I was able to see the Outfield live in the 80’s and 90’s. Their music was such a big part of my youth. They were a great live band and they put on some amazing shows. I know Tony and John are gone but their music will live forever.
3 British lads that played and sang like an American band. No Wonder they were so popular in America!
I'm so sad that no one in my generation listens to this band. Very saddening because it such a good band!
im.62.good.band
I did, zebra was another forgotten 1980's classic band
don’t be sad i listen to it bro many people in our generation have forgotten it i agree but there are few who still listen to old gems like this
This band was really good! Very cool video too. Anyone else miss the 80s A LOT??? I want to be back there!!!
Every day!
Yes!! Me😀.I was 16 when this song came to humanity.✝️
Only if I can retain what I've learned in life.
😢
Someone in 2024, Listening to this huge massive song by the outfield band and pure NOSTALGIA...🙌⚡
RIP Tony Lewis frontman and bassist for the Outfield. One of the most recognized voices in 80s music.
Sucks 😥😥😥😥
@@bilbobaggins4710 If you think Tony Lewis sucks - you know nothing and probably are into boy bands.
@@IRIDEHARLEYS I think he meant it sucks that Tony died. See the tearful faces?
He just copied stings vocal style.
@@Bobsend Wrong Bobby!
I still remember the first time I heard this song back in the late 80s. I was captivated by this song, utterly lost in it. Listened to it over and over when I finally saved enough money to buy the cassette. I remember what I was doing the first time I heard it. I’m 51 now and just listening to this song takes me back to that youthful time in my life. ❤ loved the outfield. A band that just “had it” with the vocals and sound on the instruments. Unique and talented group!
Great comment!
51 too great song
My all time favorite band. The Outfield FOREVER!!
Me too
In the 1980s what people considered pop music was harder and better then anything to come
RIP Tony Lewis.. Go be with your friend John Spinks and continue making beautiful music in Heaven...
Well said love it....Agree Joe A..
They had some great tunes. Love this band.
Man, this year just sucks more and more. Loved this band and their unique sound from the 80's. Only got to see these guys once at the old Pine Knob in Michigan opening up for Night Ranger I believe. Their first two albums are great. I sure miss the 80's. And all of these incredible musicians we are losing now. RIP Tony and John. Make beautiful music together in Heaven. We'll miss you down here on earth. Matthew
The Outfield gave me a lot of joy, Tony and his band really made me happy, nice trip to Heaven, mister, rest in peace.
Beautifully said. 2020 sucks on many levels. I love the 80s. Looking back is better than the uncertainty of the so called future I'm trying to navigate through.
Thank goodness for top tunes like this.
R.I.P. Tony Lewis. Your u vocals are here to stay 👍
HEAR YA BROTHER IM 58 A 62 BABY ..MISS THESE HUYS ALL OUR BANDS ARE DYING AGE CATCHES EVERYONE ,,, LOL HOW THE FUCK IS OZZY STILL ALIVE
...FOR SURE. ‘20 has stunk..
The part that really sucks is that Tony Lewis passed away on my birthday
R.I.P Tony. Your amazing voice was perfect for John’s songs.
Sucks...this song just popped into my head...I had no idea he passed 😥

One of the most underrated groups of the 80s.
Here Be Barr Strings of top 10 hits and international success. How the Hell are they an underrated band??
not underrated at all bro
Here Be Barr god Damn right
Say it isn't So!
Exactly
Up until yesterday I had only heard Your Love by this band. I was thinking no way these guys wrote this awesome song and the rest of their catalog sucks. So I loaded them up on spotify and holy shit, all these years I've been missing out on an awesome band. Haven't heard a bad song from them yet.
Voices of Babylon! Masterpiece.
Ditto
yep, I knew they were good, but I didn't know they were that good
RIP Tony.. THE OUTFIELD .. what a hell of a group ...such a unique sound that can’t be duplicated...Life is short enjoy it friends ...
Since you've been gone Tony Lewis .
Since The Outfield has been gone, this world's been turned upside down. Rest in peace, John Spinks and Tony Lewis. Watching this video on MTV back in the late 80s was like a shot of adrenaline for my teenaged self! I'm gonna miss these blokes for the rest of my life. Cheers, mates.
R.I.P. Tony Lewis! You will be remembered as one of the greatest 80’s vocalist and The Outfield as one of the greatest 80’s band that got to hit the world with those songs!

My favorite song from this band. I don’t know how many times I cranked the stereo and played air guitar to this. First we lost John and now Tony has passed on. Total shock when I heard the news. You will be missed but your music will live on. We love you... rest in peace guys.
This must have been fairly early with the B&W/color effect. You see it all the time now but in the 80s it probably was fairly novel. And the slow mo look but they are still in time ( had them mime to a sped up track so when they slowed to correct tempo they were in slow mo but playing in time). Neat tricks back then. The drummer always sounds so in the pocket on these tunes. I like the verse better than the chorus on this even though it's just 4 to 5 over and over. The chorus is just a
Rest rest in peace Tony Lewis and John spinks. God bless you Alan Jackman. Thank you again many times over for the most beautiful music I've heard in my life
Rest in peace Tony and John your music will forever be in our hearts
Amen to that.
R.I.P. Tony and John! Thanks for the awesome music!
It's a classic they all are every song. The best of the 80's. The feeling I get now I'm 54 .....wow
RIP Tony Lewis!! Two of you are now gone. The Outfield was always one of my favorite bands!!😥❤
2024 these guys music still rocks ,even after all these years, true music never gets old it just gets Better.
Godspeed John and Tony
Back to the rthym where we all came from .
RIP, genius. You're finally reunited with your friend. Thanks for the great music.
I’m 24 years old wishing I grew up in the 80’s. Thank You, The Outfield.
´POR QUE LO HERMOSO Y MARAVILLOSO DESAPARECE .... NO ES JUSTO....
It was truly a magical time for music. My 21 y.o. son feels the same.
yeah man its too bad. i was 20 in 1988 . i honestly wish i wasnt 55 right now but we cant fight father time.. enjoy your 20s life as much as you possibly can. I have a son who’s going to be 28 in 2 weeks and he doing it all before he settles down ( if he ever does lol ) . Enjoy these 80s vids. they were the best
I lived thru the 80s and we didn’t even know of this band in Australia, only discovered them in the 2010s!
The vocal harmonies on this song are close to absolute perfection
All of their songs are like that...their harmonies give the Beach Boys a run for their money. Very underrated band.
+Jengirl92 They weren't at that time. The 80s scene was so cut throat and diverse thst half the band's that were in that era wouldn't be so huge in this day and age.
Excellent comment...
And the eas waaaay before AutoCorrect
I just found this song in 2023 and I must say, its one of the best songs I have ever heard ❤
This band is so much more than "Your Love!"
The 80's where fun. Today the world is darker. I miss the fun of the 80's.Everyone had there own talent and style. Peace
You are so right .
I miss the 80s always will I t was the most awesome time in my life. Nothing can beat the 80s for me
I was born in the and of 90's but i see that 80's were so pretty
The 80s were awesome but the early 90s was cool to I wish I could go back in time
Great times Robert.

R.I.P. Tony Lewis. May God look mercifully upon your soul. Thanks for all the undying love
2023 and loving memories
80's music by Outfield. Doesn't get much better than this. Meaningful lyrics, great beat, amazing riffs, strong vocals. What more could you ask for in a band?
like "April Wine" Greetings . G.
Maybe success?
Rest in peace, Tony. Thanks for the voice and lyrics, and adding to the soundtrack of my life.
The open and closed crush on the drumming in the part before the chorus people don’t realize that is NOT easy to do.
So, lucky to be a teenager in the 80s and sometimes think, why did I have to grow up..lol..Love this band 😊💖
Since you've been gone
There's something I want to say
Since you've been gone
There's no one taking your place
Since you've been gone
I've just been foolin' around
Since you've been gone
This world's been turned upside down
Didn't think I'd find a girl that I could not forget
Anything we started not so long ago - ain't over yet
Since you've been gone
Staring at your photograph
And I know it won't be long
An' I know you're coming back
You turned me on
Since the first time I set eyes on you
You turned me on
Ooh the things you want me to do
Don't get me wrong
'cos you're not the only girl I've ever had
But since you've been gone
Girl you know the thought of you's driving me mad
All I do is think of you I lie awake - lie awake
And no matter how I try this loneliness - you know I can't take
Since you've been gone
Staring at your photograph
And I know it won't be long
An' I know you're coming back
Since you've been gone
There's something I want to say
Since you've been gone
There's no one to stand in my way
Since you've been gone
So scared of losing this time
Since you've been gone
Girl you know that I can't get you out of my mind
Since you've been gone
Staring at your photograph
And I know that I was wrong
An' I know you're coming back
Since you've been gone
Tried my best to read between the lines
If some things are hard to say
You better tell me one more time
Since you've been gone
Since you've been gone
Thanks
Thanks, good man.
Thank you for writing all that down.
Bellísima melodía!
I love this group so much!!!!!! 35 years later
Remember driving through Orlando FL in a '78 Transam in the 80s; blasting this on cassette with my girlfriend - loved that album!. Thank you to everyone in the Outfield; a great, under-appreciated band, should be in the HOF for their influence on 80s power pop.
WHY WERE THEY SO UNDERATED ! SHOULDVE HAVE HAD HITS IN UK
+simon hobbs agree!
because they didn't kiss the establishments asses and the establishment could not market them in such a way that proffited them!!!!
I AGREE AND I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHYYYY THEY WERE JUST SO GOOD
I DON'T understand it either Simon.......Simon says.......yeap.....u said it !!!!!!!!!
While the UK may have not appreciated The Outfield, the US certainly sure did. And the US is a bigger market than the UK. :D. I'd say they actually did pretty well. And I still like to listen to that Play Deep album a lot.
The Outfield should have been far bigger than they were. While the tune "Your Love" is okay, I've always thought this one to be far better.
Nobody puts out good music like this anymore.
Agreed!
Awesome
Totally agree! Loved all their songs.
Just a few of us.
I totally hear you, bro. My thoughts exactly!
RIP Mr Lewis. I am so glad I saw these guys in concert on this album's tour. They sounded great live. Tony had a magical voice.
That pre-chorus is absolute perfection
I know ‘Your Love’ was considered their most popular song (and might’ve been their highest-charting song), BUT this song is far superior!! It STILL gives me goosebumps!! 😃😃
It is excellent. Sad to think they never had a hit in their native UK.
The 80's rocked... so glad I'm a 80's child...
Barbara Oxford me too.

Such an amazing group!
Anytime I hear The Outfield, it takes me back to simpler times and always brings a smile to my face
It's heartbreaking that we will never see these guys again. They were great back in the day. Underrated perhaps but great. I surely miss them.
Aww, John Spinks. Miss you, dude. Can't believe it was 2 years ago you passed on.💔 But your music lives on. ❤❤
ZENA DE LEON
I'll never will stop listening
To the group.i lived. In
. 80s and still enjoy the music.tom
And now Tony is gone too R.I.P to both of them
The one thing my grandkids will never get to experience; the joy of buying an actual album and finding that the songs that never made to the radio waves were actually pretty damn good!
The Outfield had a sound all their own. They still give me that same sensation 40 years later.
Yea just the other day played the entire play deep list...I forgot all the songs I knew from them. And the radio wears out their song " your love" was good to hear their other songs they definitely hit the bricks with a fresh sound that was a relief from the Thompson twins lol
Every once in awhile I hear on XM an old 80’s song and it takes me back to that time.
Amazing lead vocal & bass player 🎸 Tony Lewis & John Spinks are now playing together in heaven #TheOutfield Forever 🤙🏻
Por años busque esta canción y al fin me tope con ella no puedo dejar de llorar de lo feliz que estoy como me llegan los recuerdos de mi infancia y cuando era feliz totalmente😭😭😭😭😭😍😍😍
Por años he estado escuchandola ....R I P Lewis
Igualmente para mí 🙂

Love The Outfield! Brings me right back to being an 80's teen again! Good times!
Bless u..
I was thinking about all the cool bands there were in that Decade in all genres. Good to grow up in the 80s. Man I feel old.
The kids today will never ever know or experience the freedom , music and fun that we all had growing up to great bands like this . A decade truly missed
Although this song wasn’t on it, Voices Of Babylon has always been one of my favorite albums. Continue to play the crap out of it to this day. I regret not being able to see them live.
This band is everything that is right about the 80s. This video is the pinnacle of cool!
Yep! great Jackets, Shoes Tshirts and Acid Wash Jeans! Great Song too!
The Outfield was such an underrated band. That first album is excellent pop music and the second ain't so bad either.
Tom Suitt yeah there amazing ! there from Manchester, but never made it in the UK but was big in the states
+Lee Aaron Never made it in the UK? Really??
no they never really got big in the UK there fame was all in america
+NightOwl 64 For the most part, the U.K. did not seem to want to know about these guys. However, they did have some success in some European countries, but they definitely struck gold in the U.S. and rightly so.
+Tom Suitt Not pop, but Power Pop.
Alan Jackman (Drummer) is the sole remaining member of The Outfield. John Spinks (🎸🎤) and Tony Lewis ( bass 🎤) are passed away... What a band they were.
Since May 12, 2009, The Outfield videos got 388,845,383 views. If that does not say something then I don't know what music is. The BANDS from 60/70/80 were the GREATEST. I am a Rock Historian and spend ALL my life studying bands and Roc/Pop/Metal etcetera since the age of 9 yrs. I am 69 today ( 4 June 2020) and still, I can't get enough. I bought every single music mag and newspaper and books which I could get. I have two rooms full of vinyl LPs, books, encyclopedias and you name it. When RAP and R+B junk came in, I wrapped it up. Nothing beats the Rock bands and today I am not shy to say that The Beatles are still my favorite band of all times and Robert Plant my fav. rock singer. To name just one of each from the thousands of brilliant bands. My best-underrated band of all time is The Edgar Broughton Band. I will stop here. I am getting nostalgia fits now. ROCK ON!!!!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍👏👏👏👏👏👏 thanks so much for that comment....

As I grow older,so does the music. And the more musicians we lose, the sadder I feel. Life goes on....as does the music and the memories. Love The Outfield.

I'm just an old man who keeps coming back to listen to this extraordinary band.
A remember watching this video with the kid who lived down the street... when it first hit MTV. He thought the video effects were so awesome... and they were. He passed from COVID. This song always reminded me of him and his reaction. Man the irony... RIP John and Tony... you could sure write 'em.
