Just out of high school in 81' with the whole world at our feet. The 'new' music, the movies, styles and big hair! Bought my first new car in 85' and wore out a Def Leppard / Hysteria cassette tape.... I love finding great 80's songs with videos like Space Age Love Song featuring scenes from the 1982 movie 'Career Opportunities' with Jennifer Connelly, Wow! How about 'Somebody's Baby' from Fast Times at Ridgemont High? A lesser known, but still cool 1987 song 'Turn to the Sky' by the March Violets in the movie 'Some Kind of Wonderful.' And probably my all time favorite was Huey Lewis and the News' 'The Power of Love' from Back to the Future!

I remember when I first heard this song and band on the radio. I immediately ran out and got the Play Deep cassette. I played it over and over again in my Toyota SR5 pickup. My favorite song, but honestly, the whole album is great. Very underrated, talented band. Been a tough couple of years , losing basically 3 of my favorite musical artists of the 80s, which were such fun times. Eddie Money, Eddie Van Halen, and now Tony Lewis of the Outfield. I feel like a piece of me dies everytime one of them passes. I am 57 now , and still listen to their music, which will live on forever. RIP Tony.
Same here! I had a 1984 Toyota 2WD pickup and was living in LA/Hollywood as a musician. I did the same thing when I heard this a band for the first time on KLOS FM which was mostly Metal back then but they played stuff like Brian Adams too- I really miss those days! the 80's were the best!!! PS-I'm old now. Damn, it was great to be young back then!!!
Same here 86 Toyota Pickup.. I have had a Toyota Pickup ever since.. Currently rocking a 2022 TRD Off Road and still listening to the OutField like it was in 86. Love those times they are freaking priceless… only kids from the 80’s get it!!
Being born in 02 and growing up during the 2010s was alright, dad introduced me to some of his music, Play Deep is what gave me Outfield Fever! I've got the CD and also have it on vinyl. Such an awesome band! We miss you John! Tony currently started his solo career and is making music again! Long live The Outfield!
An absolute 80's classic, one of the best songs of the 80's. It got a small bit of FM airplay in Vancouver, enough to vaguely remember, but didn't go high on the charts before the next single did. I'm glad that 24 million views means it is appreciated all these years later, especially in countries who appreciate more this melodic style. I consider this band and all its musical components to be a supernatural event of the time, never to be replicated.
Singer has quite a voice very few men do. Great guitar. One of the band members died a short time ago. This song came out 30 years ago Summer 1985. It is frightening how long ago this was but I still am profoundly affected by so many memorable times from the mid 1980s. I feel frantic in wanting to quickly have some mid 1980s style fun and memorable events happen again before it is too late.
Davin Dx : who died? Alan Jackman the drummer left the band in '90. then there were 2. I'm 49 now,,and I'm glad I got to see these guys here in my hometown of Toledo, Ohio in 1986. they were awesome. I'm so glad to say when I'm asked what year I graduated high school,, I PROUDLY SAY "Class of 1986". god what I wouldn't give to go back to then. the 80's was seemingly a decade long party!! was a great time to be in my teens.
My heart broken over the passing of Tony Lewis.I Never met you.I loved you still💘💘💘💘💘I lived in Florida hearing your music when it first hit the radio💘Went through a crushing divorce listening to The Outfield..Got me through unbearable times..Watching them on MTV...YES!!💘💘💘💘💘
I saw "The Outfield" at The Decade, a Pittsburgh bar that was famous for showcasing new bands that went on to superstardom; The Police, Pat Benatar, U2, Stevie Ray Vaughn...I got to talk to John during their break, in between sets, and he couldn't have been nicer. I asked him about his song-writing process, how he developed those harmonies they became famous for, etc., and he was so warm and happy to talk about his music! He must have known (before I confirmed it) that I was a musician, and he talked to me, musician-to-musician, with respect and a wide-eyed love of what he was able to do for a living. He will be sorely missed! R.I.P., John!
I remember hearing "Your Love" on Radio 1, when it was released and being blown away by the sound and harmonies. Then "Play Deep" was released. What an album. Incredible, from this song, to the final track "Nervous Alibi". I must have listened to this album every day, for over a year. It is in my Top 5 albums with FM's Indiscreet, Marillions Misplaced Childhood, Yes's 90125 and Noiseworks Noiseworks.
I love the video, the band was obviously underrated. I started playing guitar in 1985 and john spinks influenced me greatly and he will be greatly missed.

So much I can't turn 'round
And I've been running about with some funny girls
I'm not so tough
But if you let me down (I'll tell ya)
I'd give you just one day to explain
I'd like to know if there's somebody else in this game
Say it isn't so, tell me I'm the only one
Say it isn't so, without you I can't go on
How was I to know, if you keep me guessing I don't understand
I can't sleep at night
I keep on dreaming you're gone
I'm staring into a space that was filled by your face
Facing the day
A face in the crowd
I'm sure I saw you just a moment ago
There must be something you don't want me to know
Say it isn't so, you got the magic touch
Say it isn't so, the one that I need so much
How was I to know, if you keep me guessing I don't understand
There's something wrong, suspicion's getting stronger
Don't know if I can stand this pain much longer
You play around but I see right through you
It's lonely on the streets when it's just one a.m
See a lot of pretty girls passing by
I'm walking in the midnight sun once again
And now I know why love is so blind
Cos when you're out of my sight
I'm out of your mind
Say it isn't so, you got the magic touch
Say it isn't so, the one that I need so much

Do u still have the sr5?
This hit pretty hard.
Till valhalla brother
Love the Outfield. The harmony, the major keys the songs are in and the clean distortion on the guitars just make me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Harmony or What. Say-it-isnt-so
Clean distortion? Interesting.
True
Tony and John singing together sounds like 4 voices
Evik James clean (ish) tone
Been listening to the outfield for nearly 40 years
80's music kicked ass!!!!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😀👍
80s equals Regan which equals Republican. Sorry its true.
It still does
Sim 🤟🤘😍🔥👊
Rest In Peace Tony Lewis. Thank you for the wonderful music.
My favorite English band. Such awesome toe tapping tunes.
I just had to come listen to their songs and pay tribute🎶👍💖💞..RIP Tony Lewis😪🙏😍
An absolute 80's classic, one of the best songs of the 80's. It got a small bit of FM airplay in Vancouver, enough to vaguely remember, but didn't go high on the charts before the next single did. I'm glad that 24 million views means it is appreciated all these years later, especially in countries who appreciate more this melodic style. I consider this band and all its musical components to be a supernatural event of the time, never to be replicated.
Phenomenal band. Wore the cassette out. Another one of my favorite vocalists gone.
Eric me too! Bought a pirated cassette downtown in Riyadh SA during Desert Storm and just wore the damn thing out
Singer has quite a voice very few men do. Great guitar. One of the band members died a short time ago. This song came out 30 years ago Summer 1985. It is frightening how long ago this was but I still am profoundly affected by so many memorable times from the mid 1980s. I feel frantic in wanting to quickly have some mid 1980s style fun and memorable events happen again before it is too late.
the lead guitar player died from cancer :(. sad
definitely the best time of my life and i just turned 44!
The guitar player and song writer, John Spinks Died of Liver Cancer July-2014
Por siempre Outfield!!!
The 80's still rules even if it's just a memory!!! 👊👊🤙🤙👍👍✌️✌️
80s and 90s is the best era of Rock music..
💯 % behindya
RIP John. Great memories. Thank you.
I didn't know that :(
He wrote some great tunes.
RIP.....
This has got to be the best debut album of all time
My heart broken over the passing of Tony Lewis.I Never met you.I loved you still💘💘💘💘💘I lived in Florida hearing your music when it first hit the radio💘Went through a crushing divorce listening to The Outfield..Got me through unbearable times..Watching them on MTV...YES!!💘💘💘💘💘
Woooowww!!!!!👍😉
No la pudieron describir mejor! xD concuerdo contigo
MISSING THE 80'S!!! IN SO MANY WAYS??

Perfect song beginning to end.
John Spinks, such an underrated guitarist. That solo, while its not crazy or complicated, its good.
Lowgaen Schmidt 👍
Indeed, and lovely fingered accompaniment; it's a hallmark of their sound!
Rip Johns spinks
Yeah it is!
It is very good, very tasteful.
The Outfield musics are really LIT!!! even though im not an 80's kid but listening to this kind of music is so precious that modern songs dont stand a chance against it
I think this is one of the best rock songs of the time. Great harmony
I am just discovering this band for the first time and I was around in the 80s what the hell where were they when I was about how did I miss them
No. You can't be real. How can you miss them in the 80s? I was born 2000 and listened to them growing.
