Long time Gamut user here decided to come back to Vertx for a Fanny pack, you answered pretty much all the questions I had about these two packs. Thank you!
I wish Vertx would re-do their SOCP a bit... Drop the gimmicky cell phone flap (make it a real pocket w/a zipper), replace the buckle with a Fidlock buckle, use real MMI or Texcel webbing so it doesn't slip, and make that "secret compartment" (the one behind the CCW compartment) have top access with a zipper. Oh- and in the main compartment (where the two stretch pockets are), have velcro for that insert organizer thing. Those changes would make the SOCP absolutely perfect.
I think these two packs need to make a baby. I have the long walks pack as well and it does come up short in some areas but I think you have to understand its purpose.,its not meant to be tactical. The soccp is a bigger pack and will naturally carry more, could be a good thing or bad thing. For me the long walks is good for the gym or a quick run to the store. The vanquest pack(s) have my interest as well. Great video/review....I think you covered this really well.
I just got one of the Long Walks "don't-call-it-a-fanny-pack" "waist packs" and I also have a Vertx backpack now as well, I always feel like Vertx gets 75% of the way there but leaves a lot to be desired. I love the 2 liter Long Walks waist pack, fits nearly perfectly; however, I wish i could have the option to wear it as a sling pack if I wanted to, I feel like it's a bit more casual especially in the blue color it doesn't scream "theres a gun in here" it flops forward when I wear it like that, if they had a second position for the straps it would be great. Straps come loose far too easily, they are easy to tighten but they loosen very easily, I'd like to see if I can put a piece of paracord around where the buckle is or something to act as a sort of stopper so it doesn't come loose as easily on its own. The velcro on the inside is great I just wish it had a bit more internal organizers but then again they want you to buy their tactigami inserts for that.
Thanks for the review. I am a dad that Carey’s most of the same stuff. Really liked the War poet knife which I am looking to get and I love my TKell Gideon knife. Thanks for the honest review as a dad. Get some sleep. Lol.
SOCP bag without the cellphone flap would definitely be the ultimate fanny pack. Been using mine all week in Europe and really wish that front space wasn't wasted with the surveillance thingy
Thanks for the detailed comparison! As another dad who’s adapted to off-body edc, I’ve been looking for something reasonably covert and a little larger than my Spiritus Fanny Sack; which I love, I just wish I could carry more than my 43X in. The SCOP has had my attention, but it is almost twice the length of the Spiritus pack. Maybe the Long Walks pack is the middle ground. Just curious how thick the waist strap is? Obviously more than an inch. Looks to be 1.5”, maybe 2”? Thanks again!
Good video! Trying to see if either can fill a gap for me in my bag options. I use a Viktos upscale sling for my smaller EDC bag. It is pretty solid overall, I wear it as a sling and not a fanny pack so it doesn't need to be dedicated fanny. I prefer Vertx bags and was thinking of getting the long walks just as a smaller, super light option, but now I am not too sure if that is the move for me. I do like the Vitktos because it doesn't really scream tactical, I just got it in black. There is molle but it is on the side of the pack that faces you so no one is going to see it.
Thanks for this vid- I was JUST considering getting a Long Walk pack to try out- I already have a SOCP... Now I don't have to waste the money, since I know it won't work for me.
Thanks for the detailed review! Between that lumpy front pocket and those iffy buckles (though you could replace them) I think I'll pass on this. 5.11 makes a few bags you might like- the LV6 and Rapid Waist Bag. I have the latter and like it but the molle might be a pass for some people.
I have the LV6 as well, it just stinks as a Fanny pack due to not having a buckle… I also think it should have a better CCW pocket, but it’s a good contender for a small sling bag.
Thanks for the comparison! Really appreciate it! I’ve been contemplating out of the two. I do see the SOCP front pocket pretty useless for the money. And the grab handle and pocket placement is throwing me off on the long walk bag. I just purchased the Fieldcraft survival edc bag. Should have in a couple days. I don’t know if you’ve checked that one out?
That side pocket thing where you put the narcan i think is meant for your keys. Only guessing based off the little lanyard in it. My old lady has one on her running pouch and that's where we put the keys when we go for runs
I wanted to love the SOCP as a cross body, but i absolutely hate it. It doesn't sit flat against your body and rotates fwd even without concealed. I do like it as a fanny but I wish they did one with a quick pull strap. I have a 30$ jawn i got off Amazon that is infinitely better for concealed carry. The long walks has me intrigued, tho.
Might want to get a smaller wallet. They have several different types that are more compact and lightweight that can hold just as much as a traditional wallet.
I’ve tried a couple different wallets, but for all the different stuff I carry, (not just cards) this one has been the best and smallest one I can find.
There's a reason I always tell people to buy from a local retailer, not Amazon - they can show you what features are for. If you want to learn what those features are actually for, hit me up - I'm happy to help.
No retailers near me… I usually will buy off Amazon to check something out if I need. If I don’t like, I return it :) So, what is that front webbing for? I still can’t figure it out.
@thewisebuyguy4799 Understood. I just like it when people buy from retailers, so I always suggest it. Which webbing? The dark colored flaps in the front part of the phone pouch?
Basically Vertx stripped out the organization in their bags just to sell it back as velcro accessories which I hate. At least the long walk bags are cheaper but they're also using cheaper materials. Worth noting the long walk fanny is also designed to be a chest bag with the long walk backpacks.
@@wolverinegnr it’s a 5.11 pair that’s discontinued. You might try their Apex if you need a lot of pockets (I have a review of that on my channel). You might also look at the Dart? I haven’t had to buy lightweight shorts recently but I would for sure checkout the Apex. Tons of pockets and stretch. Little stiff initially, but brakes and well and breathes pretty well I think. I wear them mostly comfortably… that being said, where I live if it hits 112 to 116, it doesn’t really really matter lol hot is hot 😂
The 5.11 lv6 is a great "sling" fanny pack. I say sling because the buckle works better for sling style. However with some modification and using standard buckle and velcro organizer from vanquest you can get a real nice setup. I see that you own the lv6 already in another post. Mine is pretty loaded up i will have to post a video some point and will send u link to it.
You totally could! I have them in other bags, but for trying to slim down the weight in my fanny pack, I don’t carry one regularly. If I’m going somewhere more sketchy then I may throw one in, but I have not practiced reloads with them from the bag as much as I have from the pocket or other methods. The bag is built though to what your trying to do would be very easy.
I did!!! I totally emailed them and am going to try and see if they can sponsor me to review the new bag 😂 I feel like I should get some credit for it lol
@@thewisebuyguy Thank you for your reviews. We are looking into the Vertx Everyday pack (not long walks thanks to you) and the SOCP vs. Viktos upscale for various functions. Keep up the good work.
@@t.w.7053 I just dropped a video comparing the every day to the SOCP. It should be posted by now… I just threw it together with my phone yesterday evening. Lol let me know if it’s helpful.
Is the grab handle possibly for pulling the bag open so you can access your gun quicker and easier on the long walks bag? I just ordered this bag last night because it looks less military style and pretty sure all I edc is a wallet knife keys phone and a Glock 19
You can adjust how the buckles fasten, I would just slide one over to where you want it and use the extra length on the other side. Should work just fine!
I will die on this hill, off body ccw slings should have the connection point on the bag or as close to the bag as possible so it can not be detached from behind you
I get you and even agree to a point, however I think two issues have need to be discussed. First, getting this bag on still sucks compared to other normal clip fanny packs. Second, depending on body type, because the buckle is in front I have had people. I know that when they bend over their buckle comes unclipped, and it falls off. It hasn’t happened to me, but body type seems to be a factor. I get the security point of buckle placement but I also haven’t ever seen anyone reporting that their fanny pack got unclipped from their body while they were walking and said person then ran off with their fanny pack. I have seen that with purses and other bags but nothing like a fanny pack. Not saying it’s an invalid point but I don’t know that it’s such a huge security issue that I feel uncomfortable with a buckle in the back… have you seen or heard reports of people getting fanny packs stolen off their body’s? I’d love to see some data on that if you have! Otherwise I totally get your point and agree, but for me it’s not a huge issue. Getting the bag on regularly and having it unclip on someone (for me) would be bigger issues. Also, I wonder if some of this could be fixed with just a better buckle system? What do you think?
Please please please turn your camera/phone to landscape.
The little loop on the bottom center is good for a clip on blinking red light for bike riding. Just turn the bag facing the rear.

Agreed!
I agree here. If they would remove and make a slim profile pocket it would make it probably the best sling/fanny ccw bag
