12:51 placement. shouldn't adapt the middle alley cat: 1) having weaker minions in the middle plays around some removal like swashburglar -> griveous bite for example 2) generally, dire wolf works better with weak minions in the middle 3) you can get the deathrattle adapt, and the plant that spawn can screw up dire wold buffs if they're in the middle
rodriguez aymeric Yeah, but if the rogue zaps the summoned cat, you get a 1 mana 1/1 in your hand. if he zaps the original cat, you get two 1/1 with 1 mana. Adapting it over the summoned cat makes the rogue to choose if he wants two 1/1 plants or another round of two 1/1 beasts.
Well put together video - explaining how and why your putting together this particular deck, showing deck building basic techniques, then some good example games with plenty of good exposition.
I have an almost identical list to this, but I found great success running timberwolves instead of tundra rhino and firefly as a core identity to the deck and playing with the token aspect of it, using tech cards like deadly shot and explosive trap. It's played like a regular face hunter deck where your finisher tends to be tolvir warden to lock in an unleash the hounds + double timberwolves combo once the board inevitably swings in their favor
I would argue that mid-range hunter actually leans more towards tempo decks nowadays. Tempo decks aims to play early threats and then disrupt the opponent from dealing with them. (So basically playing cards that can snowball or "win more" when having minions on board) This is what the additions of cards like Direwolf, Razormaw and Hyena does.
At 11:02, there could have been lethal is the spell was mana bind, which was sometimes run, or spellbender with the combination of huffer or leokk. But, that was very off meta at the time, so I wouldn't think of it either
These deckteaching videos are so great, some of my favourite hearthstone content on youtube right now, I'm only waiting for him to come with a viable warlock deck though (if one even exists atm).
Perhaps I'm a bit weird but I run a Gladiator's Longbow in my deck. Yes, it's a high cost card but the 5 damage immunity gives you a solid chance to take out a big minion late game and preserve your health. It's also a good way to get that last bit of damage to finish off your opponent.
True... I've had some success with it though and it's amazing if you get it exactly when you need it. Though I hear the problems that come with running such a card.
thanks for this trump, as a control-oriented player I have a hard time playing aggressive decks, very few people teach how to play hunter because it's supposed to be "brain dead" but I find that aggro decks aren't really that easy or obv to play since you need to balance board control with face, and aggro decks dont have comeback mechanics like control decks do. In contrast control decks have 1 very specific game plan and you just need to react and counter what your opponents are doing unlike in aggro where you are always the proactive one
If you say tell the people from 2 years ago that hunter is now a noble deck and rogue is a scumbag deck you gonna get laughed at... how did we come to this...
any consideration to terrorscale stalker? when it hits on turn 3 with a kindly grandmother on turn 2, you're playing a 3 mana 3/3 summon a 3/2. if you can hit highmane with it it's a 3 mana 3/3 summon 2 2/2s, both of which are insane (in case it goes to turn 9, just play that for massive tempo, or on turn 6 with a rat pack if you dont draw the highmane to pull similar value that is slightly weaker to AOE. might just be a one-of, but certainly fun to try out.
Finally spent my dust on this deck and it's a lot of fun. My question is what could I replace kindly grandmother with? I don't have the Kara expansion so I threw in 2 Ravasaur Runts instead since I'm pretty clueless. Any ideas on something better?
Honestly, the best additions to midrange hunter were Fire fly and Crackling Razormaw which allowed hunter to reliably curve out a strong 1, 2, and occasionally 3 drop.
Crackling Razormaw makes your early drops sticky, so your opponent has a much harder time clearing your board in the early game. Jeweled Macaw and Fire Fly effectively draw you a minion, so when you curve out perfectly you're not out of minions to play by turn five. Prior to Un'goro, Hunter was always behind until they could play their Call of the Wild. It's much harder to do repeatable damage (or any damage at all) with your minions when you're constantly behind on the board.
First match: traded the Razormaw when you should have traded with the other 3/2. Second match: adapted the wrong cat, Tobby Cat would've been better because of the positioning.
Grandmother is apart of the Return to Kaza set, so unless you buy the expansion it will remain unavailable. I recommend you pick up revasaur runt instead, its a 2 drop and synergies well with alley cat
The trades at 14:02 should be explained more since 3/2 not going face is kinda counter intuitive and you open yourself up to fan when your very favored already.
Hao Sun that's game knowledge. Quest Rogues don't run Fan. You might get wrecked once against an opponent who uses it as a Tech, but on the long run it's simply not worth to play around the card. Don't do it.
Quest Rogue's don't run fan of knives so your 1-health guys are safe(ish). They DO run a lot of bounce effects though (shadowstep, brewmaster, etc.). Clearing their minions makes their bounce cards useless, denies getting more cards from Swashburglar/Novice Engineer, and makes it harder for them to complete the quest.
"The great thing about firefly is that you can play it as a 2 drop." //In the deck that needs to curve out// So, logically, we're going to cut one for jeweled macaw because we need VALUE.
I find Firefly really awkward because it's not a card that gives beast synergy with Crackling Razormaw which is basically probably your best turn 2 play so it really ruins the curve sometimes, for that reason I decided to cut it out completely from my deck and my Midrange looks something like Fenom's Midrange Hunter as shown in the video.
CrackedDoodle To each their own, I really like it and though I won't mulligan away Razormaw if I have firefly in my opening hand, I try to pair it with grandma or dire wolf. I often use firefly as a 2 drop instead of playing it on 1, to help curve out. Just the versatility and curve filler is what appeals to me.
Crackling is super strong with its effect, but playing it on turn 2 if its your only one is more important then the effect MOST of the time. Then firefly keeps putting things in your hand/makes it harder for someone to make you start top decking. So firefly to me seems like a very solid pick if you ask me.
I just started playing and don't have Grandmother and Rat Packs, what's the best replacement, in your opinion? btw, what do you think of Raptor Hatchling? Love your videos dude, started playing 2 weeks ago, whatch all your videos and was really hoping for a mid range hunter video, since I had just made a deck based on Toast's!
what about swamp king dred? it's not a ridiculous card like the other ones, but it's a 7 mana 9/9 with a nice effect. there's no 7 drop so I chose the dred. he can be the final nail in the coffin.
+Filip Tryhuk Well it's a meh 1-drop and a bad 2-drop. Obviously it's useful if you're playing elementals but it has no synergy in this deck. I don't know why you'd choose it over Alley Cat, Jewelled Macaw or Fiery Bat. Mirror Entity's hardly played and even then any 1-drop counters it.
For the Direwolf. Obviously Alley cat is the better version of firefly, but firefly is still better than fiery bat and jewelled macaw because it doesn't die to pings. It's also better than jewelled macaw because it's guaranteed that the second minion you get from it will be a 1 drop to apply early pressure along with the dire wolfs. Play the deck a bit, there is a reason 4 out of 5 of the players that took a midrange hunter list to the tournament ran it as a two of.
You have to predict what your opponent is going to do, especially against control decks, and play around it (eg turn 6 Dragonfire Potion). Also how similar is your deck? The wrong card substitutions can drastically decrease your overall winrate.
bruh this deck was created in Un goro and optimized for that particular meta and you were playing it in the Knights of the Frozen Throne meta, don’t complain
Blob Dat when Pirate Warrior ran Hearthstone I had over 70% WR against the mirror without any Tech cards simply because a lot of stupid people would play it thinking that the only strategy was actually just going face, so yes, it needs to be taught.
Most cases you're looking to go face pretty hard and only trade cards to prevent good trades for them. Of course side note try to play around potion by not playing or keep things like kindly grandmother and such, You will get boned. Priest is a some what hard match up for this deck. Only deck that is harder in my opinion is taunt warrior.
My friends and I argue a lot about dinomancy. I believe that dinomancy is bad because it slows tempo, requires you to have a board, and cannot chip away the remaining health of your opponent, just like when taunt warrior has a huge wall in front of you that your minions just cannot pass even with the plus two plus two My friends believe that dinomancy is awesome as it gives so much value through pure stats and value trades, and it creates a lot more pressure I want to hear you guy's opinion BTW I probably spelled dinomancy wrong but I am too lazy to spell check
Personally, if you run a deck like trumps with jeweled macaws and fireflys then you probably don't need it. If you drop fire flys for beats or jeweled mccaw, because you think its bad then i would run dinomancy for your hand will run empty much more easily.
As a Priest player with a very high winrate vs Hunter: Always play as if they have Potion of Madness in their hand, this one card can single handedly win priests the game if used on Kindly Grandmother or Rat Pack to good effect
Thanks! and very good tips, the only thing I was very aware is keeping my hyena and in general my minions with 4 attack so the potions did not work but some times it´s nearly impossible. Thanks again!
Avoid playing kindly grandmother or rat pack when facing priest, try to control the board. Remember that minions with exactly 4 attack can't be removed by Shadow Word. But take into account that Priest is somewhat the counter to this deck.
AKA: *THE* budget deck.
The best part is that it's a fun deck to play as well!
The deck doesn't give you room to do much apart from curving out every turn...
You forgot to mention one thing: You shouldn't keep Grandmother(and rat pack) vs Priest
Onam how tf will u know ur playing against a priest?
Ninjafamily He meant you shouldn't keep it in your starting hand.
Ninjafamily idiot
Ninjafamily How tf are you this stupid?
We're hitting levels of autism that shouldn't even be possible
12:51 placement. shouldn't adapt the middle alley cat:
1) having weaker minions in the middle plays around some removal like swashburglar -> griveous bite for example
2) generally, dire wolf works better with weak minions in the middle
3) you can get the deathrattle adapt, and the plant that spawn can screw up dire wold buffs if they're in the middle

You are amazing! Changed my Deck to this one and made 15 to 10 today.. Thank you!!

thanks very much your teachings helped my climb from rank 20 all the way up to rank 5, cant thank you enough :D
the *MADMAN*! love you trump ❤
14:12
Did Fan of knives: Deal 1 damage to all enemy minions, rotate out when I wasn't looking?
Quest Rogue usually doesn't have enough room to run Fan of Knives.
I would argue that mid-range hunter actually leans more towards tempo decks nowadays.
Tempo decks aims to play early threats and then disrupt the opponent from dealing with them. (So basically playing cards that can snowball or "win more" when having minions on board)
This is what the additions of cards like Direwolf, Razormaw and Hyena does.
"against a secret mage i play a controll deck"
nah you're just trump. Any other hunter would've smorced it even if it's wrong
00:02 - 00:05 The opening is completely wrong. ALWAYS HUFFER.
Yeeee
The only constant to Animal Companion is that you'll never get Leokk when it's actually useful but your opponent will. Always Huffer is a myth.
THE MADMAN!
what's the origin of that?
I think it's a little more than that. He seems to call his opponent a "madman" when they've made an extremely high-risk, high-reward type of play.
+Daniel Chrismer also when they are using a memeworthy tactic in theirdeck
Daniel Chrismer b
Thanks for the lesson! I'm trying to rank up as a midrange hunter!
this video is really helpful thank you trump/jens
At 11:02, there could have been lethal is the spell was mana bind, which was sometimes run, or spellbender with the combination of huffer or leokk. But, that was very off meta at the time, so I wouldn't think of it either
There is something profoundly satisfying about watching quest rogue get destroyed.
These deckteaching videos are so great, some of my favourite hearthstone content on youtube right now, I'm only waiting for him to come with a viable warlock deck though (if one even exists atm).
He should've mentioned that scavenging hyena is a keep in mulligan with a beast 1-drop
"Noble Rexxar" KEK
Perhaps I'm a bit weird but I run a Gladiator's Longbow in my deck. Yes, it's a high cost card but the 5 damage immunity gives you a solid chance to take out a big minion late game and preserve your health. It's also a good way to get that last bit of damage to finish off your opponent.
ShowHero but the game usually ends before turn 7
ShowHero i was until i realized how rarely i win because of the bow and it can be devastating if its in your starting hand
True... I've had some success with it though and it's amazing if you get it exactly when you need it. Though I hear the problems that come with running such a card.
As far as i hate huntards, I have to admit that crushing victory against that cancer rogue was delightful
rat pack has one weakness over infested wolf, potion of madness, i guess that's the reason for picking a wold over a rat
Also gives you more 4-drops so you can curve a bit better without emptying your hand.
Just like to say the editing is on point
Hi, jens!!!
whats a good replacement for grandmother from craftable cards?
7:11
Jumperino to Trumperino.
Jens: Could you add the import strings in the comments for the decks?
Next Secret Mage
Keep up the good work
"Thats how you use the Noble Rexxar to defeat those scumbags Rogues..." never thought i would live to see Hunter class called noble
thanks for this trump, as a control-oriented player I have a hard time playing aggressive decks, very few people teach how to play hunter because it's supposed to be "brain dead" but I find that aggro decks aren't really that easy or obv to play since you need to balance board control with face, and aggro decks dont have comeback mechanics like control decks do. In contrast control decks have 1 very specific game plan and you just need to react and counter what your opponents are doing unlike in aggro where you are always the proactive one
What about Leeroy Jenkins in this Deck, Is it a viable option?
Maybe it get´s better when teching in 2 dr. 3s
wait, so against aggressive decks like pirate warrior, aggressive mage and mirror match do i control or attack
I don't usually like Rat pack but with the dire wolf alphas it gets an extra chance at a buff versus Infested Wolf.
Top notch editing
I love nesting roc. I was hoping it would see play.
thoughts on vicious fledgeling?
thoughts on using swamp King dred?
Why didn't the Rogue quest go to 1/4 when playing the two Stonetusk boars? They have the same name.
Freddie Agricola he was already at 2/4 after playing Swashbuckler's
Is that bad call of the wild in mid hunter? I am playing on rank 2 with one of them and this card can be decisive in some match-ups
Made the deck last night with a few changes, still trying to learn it but I swear I can't get past rank 18.
i used to run my flex card as dinomancy, it really helped me with control matches but i cut it because it wasn't the greatest.
with which card can i replace kindly grandmother?Don't have enough gold for 3 adventures it would take me months to collect them
If you say tell the people from 2 years ago that hunter is now a noble deck and rogue is a scumbag deck you gonna get laughed at... how did we come to this...
@trump do a new miracle rouge guide please as it's mid game strategies seem to have changed with Sherazin being almost it's only mid game
any consideration to terrorscale stalker? when it hits on turn 3 with a kindly grandmother on turn 2, you're playing a 3 mana 3/3 summon a 3/2. if you can hit highmane with it it's a 3 mana 3/3 summon 2 2/2s, both of which are insane (in case it goes to turn 9, just play that for massive tempo, or on turn 6 with a rat pack if you dont draw the highmane to pull similar value that is slightly weaker to AOE. might just be a one-of, but certainly fun to try out.
I play MidrangeHunter as well, but i brought Barnes in my Deck, because of Highmane, Grandmother, Infested Wolf, etc... Do you think thats worth?
10:25 Did he just check for vape for CUTE CAT instead of UGLY CAT?
Finally spent my dust on this deck and it's a lot of fun. My question is what could I replace kindly grandmother with? I don't have the Kara expansion so I threw in 2 Ravasaur Runts instead since I'm pretty clueless. Any ideas on something better?
thell me i dont have this damn kindly whats the best choice now ?
this might be a dumb question to ask, but what happened in Un'goro that made midrange hunter a lot better?
Honestly, the best additions to midrange hunter were Fire fly and Crackling Razormaw which allowed hunter to reliably curve out a strong 1, 2, and occasionally 3 drop.

wait he left tsm ? and joined tempo storm ? since when ?
Hey Trump, I'm new to hearthstone but why no Timber Wolf?
Opinions on Terrorscale stalker in this deck? Turn 2 grandmother, Turn 3 value
Just Some Guy this deck doesn't really need the value, it also lowers the chance of having a good opening hand
3/3/3 without any good abilty. Plus u already have alot of 3 drops.
what is the music at 16:40 ?
So I can't use grandmother it's not showing up in crafting for standard or wild. so what do u use instead
Grandmother is apart of the Return to Kaza set, so unless you buy the expansion it will remain unavailable. I recommend you pick up revasaur runt instead, its a 2 drop and synergies well with alley cat
Ooo ty I'll be pve'ing then
can someone explain to me, why call of the wild isn't used? Is it to slow?
9 instead of 8/
best one yet
The trades at 14:02 should be explained more since 3/2 not going face is kinda counter intuitive and you open yourself up to fan when your very favored already.

Adam R jeweled macaw you mean? firefly reload isnt as strong. the tempo is whats important
You can use the firefly to get tempo and yes i was talking about macaw.
Why does every single one of those run eaglehorn bow but doesnt run secrets
How important is hungry crab in lower ranks? Kinda dont want to spend 400/800 dust on them. What do i replace them with?
Duncan Evers depends on how many Paladins you are facing
I just started playing and don't have Grandmother and Rat Packs, what's the best replacement, in your opinion? btw, what do you think of Raptor Hatchling?
Love your videos dude, started playing 2 weeks ago, whatch all your videos and was really hoping for a mid range hunter video, since I had just made a deck based on Toast's!
Eduardo Matos search on UA-cam for "Disguised Toast f2p Hunter" it's a very cheap version of the deck which He reached Legend with
Thanks trump!
Thats a LOT of different versions of midrange hunter.... btw nice vid
I've got King krush and Swamp king dred in packs bought with gold, any suggestions on a good deck to help my climb to
Play Bomb Warrior
A what is the background song by the second match?
I tried same with quest rouge than she play the fan of knives and end the game... not really working actually....
what about swamp king dred? it's not a ridiculous card like the other ones, but it's a 7 mana 9/9 with a nice effect. there's no 7 drop so I chose the dred. he can be the final nail in the coffin.
Not that good
Why play flame elemental when u can replace them with other beats idk why they use it can someone explain
Jacob StimWard it provides more value than other 1 mana beasts.
Why firefly?
Good one- AND twodrop and counters Mirror Entity.
+Josiah Nelson Fair enough.
It doesn't seem too weird to me to run Volcanic Potion and Ice Block in a Secret Mage deck.
music at the end?
best budget deck so far. reached last season rank 6 with it, didnt play much though... only reall bad matchup is taunt warrior.. impossible to win
in my case i was stuck in rank 12 eu and i just couldnt get out. i won 1 then lost 1 every time.
Tempo Storm says this deck is tier 3 but it's actually my favorite deck in the meta
ATAG Chozo I like it because it beats up quest rogue
10:25 That "cats vs. dogs" segregation :c
I got prep from mimic pod caverns into prep unleashed today
why no king mukla in this deck
Weird. I play a very similar deck at rank 19 and 20 and get annihilated by AOE, silences, taunts, frost lich jaina and shadowreaper anduin.
Do this deck really need to be taught?
It's good for players who don't have must dust to make the deck - good teachings on mechanics, when to trade or 'flip the switch'
Blob Dat when Pirate Warrior ran Hearthstone I had over 70% WR against the mirror without any Tech cards simply because a lot of stupid people would play it thinking that the only strategy was actually just going face, so yes, it needs to be taught.
Can anyone give me advice on the priest matchup? Couldn't get past rank 9 because of that :c
Miguel Ortiz play aggressive and be cautious of potion of madness with your grandmothers and rat packs
How do you defeat priests that counter your hero power with theirs?
SNail B0at It's simple. all you gotta do is get queued against a priest and you win
16:25 Huffer bad? SMOrc Huffer go face SMOrc Huffer good
My friends and I argue a lot about dinomancy.
I believe that dinomancy is bad because it slows tempo, requires you to have a board, and cannot chip away the remaining health of your opponent, just like when taunt warrior has a huge wall in front of you that your minions just cannot pass even with the plus two plus two
My friends believe that dinomancy is awesome as it gives so much value through pure stats and value trades, and it creates a lot more pressure
I want to hear you guy's opinion
BTW I probably spelled dinomancy wrong but I am too lazy to spell check
Personally, if you run a deck like trumps with jeweled macaws and fireflys then you probably don't need it. If you drop fire flys for beats or jeweled mccaw, because you think its bad then i would run dinomancy for your hand will run empty much more easily.
I hate playing Kindly Grandmother against Priest, because of Potion of Madness.
Play it when your board is empty so they have nothing to trade into (and then trade it into their guys or buff it out of range the next turn).
Irun swamp king dred because it curves out wel with a tundra rhino and savanah highmane... and i dont have kindly grandmother...
NEW OUTRO?!?!?!
Dealing with priest is what i have found the most difficult :/ any ideas?
As a Priest player with a very high winrate vs Hunter: Always play as if they have Potion of Madness in their hand, this one card can single handedly win priests the game if used on Kindly Grandmother or Rat Pack to good effect
(this also means avoid adapting your alleycat for spores, since it often gives the priest a window to run it into the other cat)
Thanks! and very good tips, the only thing I was very aware is keeping my hyena and in general my minions with 4 attack so the potions did not work but some times it´s nearly impossible. Thanks again!
Avoid playing kindly grandmother or rat pack when facing priest, try to control the board. Remember that minions with exactly 4 attack can't be removed by Shadow Word. But take into account that Priest is somewhat the counter to this deck.
Thanks! and yes I think that is the point of the counter decks XD
how do i deal against priest?
BAM BAMBAM play a different deck. Some matchups are just not winnable. Accept it and move on.
*THE MADMAN*
*SHUT UP SAYING HIS INTRO ISN'T FUNNY*
"Noble Rexxar" Lmao
How mutch dust does it cost???
Ember Hydra refer to the decks shown in the beginning, you can sort of figure it out from there
Try to count.
1200-1600 dust.
Thank you Adam R
why not snake trap
Cool!
In the thumbnail and outro.. white shape on Trumps glasses
Dinomancy hunter is superior and more fun at climbing to legend
