This video shows one of the reasons that I enjoy watching Trump so much. Even when he gets a lot of bad RNG he just shrugs it off without getting salty. Lots of respect for that type of mindset. From the Spellbender page of the Hearthstone Gamepedia:
Spellbender activates after the spell has completed its casting phase, but before it takes effect. As a result:
- If a Counterspell counters a spell, Spellbender will not activate from that spell.[3][4][5] This is because the Counterspell ends the spell casting sequence immediately, preventing Spellbender from triggering. - Spellbender takes effect after other "Whenever you cast a spell" triggered effects, such as Mana Wyrm or Archmage Antonidas, regardless of order of play.[6]
Seriously, the fact that Counterspell has priority over spellbender (even when bender is played first) is fucking stupid. I've been in that mages position before and my opponent plays a buff spell and I'm like "Hell yes! My spellbender will get that!". But then it gets counter spelled and then they burn my face down. Thanks a fucking lot Counterspell!
Well, this is the first time I've seen this mechanic.
At first, I was as outraged as Trump, and I started to think like you.
But if you think about it, it has to be like this. You shouldn't be able to "bend the spell" when it's set to be countered.
If it worked like that, you would be able to cast a spell (which would be bended to the 1/3) and then still have a counterspell as a secret. It doesn't make sense, if you think about.
I'm a big fan of "order of trigger" but in this case, I agree that counterspell should go off first, as painful as it was for Trump in that moment.
It is surprising, but that's why god invented the Hearthstone wiki to keep track of such things.
Jack Ashworth Counterspell going off first makes sense. Even in Yugioh (maybe even MTG, I dont play MTG) a spell getting countered triggers first before anything else can trigger. You cant bend a spell that got countered and thus doesnt activate.
Cayde-13 except the fact that mana bind and counterspell activate at the same time, so YGO logic doesnt apply here. i think its because "casting" happens before "targeting". So counter spell counters the spell before the spell officially "targets" the minion

Trump had it coming, he was playing fine and he had the game in the pocket untill he convinced himself for no reason that the 1st secret COULDN"T BE spellbender cus the 2nd was counterspell...Trump deserved this loss so bad

I dont like playing because is such a waste of time. the level of RNG is too much for me to feel any impact. I do, however, enjoy watching videos here on UA-cam at 1.5 speed.

I remember this one insane Rogue deck he drafted and he also went 1-3. That was quite a while ago, though.
Counterspell triggers before Spellbender because Counterspell happens before Spellbender, regardless of play order. Counterspell activates when you attempt to cast a spell, not after similar to Spellbender. Spellbender requires the spell to have been successfully cast, which can't happen if Counterspell procs, as that counters the cast.
Holy shit. You really can't be anything but IMPRESSED with how well Trump handles crap like this. It's bullshit like that that regularly makes HATE playing this game so fucking much :(

Personally it seems to me that the mechanics of secrets worked correctly. Counterspell does not allow you to cast a spell, but spellbender gives, but on a different target. Accordingly, counterspell takes precedence in not letting you play a spell.
I'm torn apart, what would bring more value to climbing a ladder, Aya in various jade decks, or Patches to improve my quest rogue. can only craft one for now. =/

Mistress of Mixtures and Worgen Infiltrator were 2 vital cards Trump should have picked. He's been playing Hearthstone for nearly 4 years now and he still doesn't understand that a deck can have too much late game and lack early game. He had 3 Spikeridged Steeds, a Vinecleaver and Tirion, for crying out loud.

Counterspell always triggers before Spellbender. While it's obvious *why* they would make it act this way, it is not consistent with the card wordings. Another example of Hearthstone's "rules".
