They're the most diverse-sounding band I can think of. They had many different singers and styles over the years. I grew up thinking several of their songs were by several different bands. Check out Black Water, you'll see what I mean.
Dude. You have just been reborn. Welcome, you will never be the same. My dad gifted me this album in 1979 for my 15th birthday. 95% of my love of music came from sharing it with my dad. There is not a bad Doobie Brothers song. China Grove is a rocker.
The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band that have been around for 5 decades. They covered many genres of music over the years. They had so many great songs such as "Listen To The Music", "Black Water", "Jesus Is Just Alright", "China Grove", "Takin' It To The Streets", "The Doctor", "It Keeps You Runnin'", "Echoes Of Love", "You Belong To Me", "Take Me In Your Arms" etc.
Michael McDonald had then joined the Doobie brothers, replacing original vocalist Tom Johnston. Check out Tom’s voice on classic Doobie songs like Long Train Runnin’ and China Grove 🔥
I totally approve of listening to the studio version first. That way, you're hearing the song that everyone loved so much that it became a hit. Like you say, you never know what you're getting with a live version.
Love Michael McDonald’s unique voice. He was every where in the 70’s and 80’s with this band and on his own and doing back up singing on other artists music. He is also a great song writer. Love the group and this man.
1979 was a fabulous year for music. The Clash, Supertramp, Earth Wind and Fire, Tom Petty, ELO, Styx, and Foreigner had hits. Such a great year as I had just turned 16, had a crappy car and crappy job. But some of the best memories ever.
The Doobies have soooo many hits. McDonald joined a little later but has such a great voice. Blue eyed soul refers to a "white" singer having a soulful voice. Highly recommend Black Water, which has a different lead singer, I believe they had at least three different ones. But if you like McDonald's voice, he also has some solo hits and you should also listen to I Keep Forgetten.
"Minute By Minute" by The Doobbie Brothers is also Fire 🔥 This genre of music is called "Blue-Eyed Soul" music which began in the early 60's with a group or duet called "The Righteous Brothers. "
My dad was a Doobie Brothers fan back in the 70s so, I grew up listening to them. This song and the title track from the Minute By Minute album are some of my favorites from them. Other good songs by them are Long Train Running, Black Water, Listen To The Music, Take Me in Your Arms, and China Grove. These guys can be folksy and bluesy but they can also do Funk and Soul and they can Rock out too. Very versatile and awesome band. Check out more, you won’t regret it.
What a fool Believes became not only a huge hit single but an influential one. You can hear its rhythmic synth in songs like He's So Shy by The Pointer Sisters or Steal Away by Robbie Dupree
There were two eras of The Doobies, and both were hugely successful: first was the Tom Johnston era, with a more Rock/New Orleans funky sound, and then there was the Michael McDonald era, with a more Pop/Soul sound. The Doobie Brothers are one of the biggest groups of the '70s and early '80s, with many great songs. You will love this rabbit hole.
This is the later version of the Doobies which is a great version of them. Early Doobies is very worth checking out for sure. This particular song is like crack cocaine for the ears. Another Doobie banger with McDonald is Taking It to The Streets.
Thanks for your time and reaction. Doobie Brothers have been around for a long time. Styles and lead vocalists have changed as well. Being 70 years old, I have been lucky enough to enjoy them all.😃 Peace and blessings.
Michael has one of the most distinctive and unique voices of the 70's and 80's. Kenny Loggins as well. You MUST check out their collaboration of This is It. Long Train Running is my other fave Doobie Brothers song :). Cheers from Canada
Back in the day there *were no videos* (gasp!). We heard what was played on the radio and then went to the record store to buy a single or an album, go home and put that vinyl on the stereo and crank up the volume. :) I guess that's part of the reason I enjoy these uploads so much.
Earlier DB features different lead can't remember his name. Enjoy these hits "China Grove," "Black Water," "Long Train Runnin," "I Keep Forgettin." Love Doobie Brothers!! 👍🏽
I was about 4 when this song came out. I remember it being on EVERY radio station, AM & FM in virtually EVERY genre except classical. It was on EVERY TV station, in EVERY elevator, and on EVERY On-Hold song on the telephone. You couldn't escape it! I remember riding in our brown 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with my parents and sitting in my car seat, and feeling like Michael McDonald was looking into the rear car window and singing to me through the glass! The song was absolutely EVERYWHERE!!
"Minute By Minute" is my favorite of theirs, with Michael. He did a lot of work with various artists and groups, including Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, Patti LaBelle, and more. Everywhere he goes, platinum and gold. Solo- " I Keep Forgetting" (Warren G and Nate Dogg sampled it for "Regulate"). "On My Own" - Michael and Patti. Really, just pick something of his and enjoy the ride.
Born in 1970, this is one of my all-time favorite songs. I love it when people from younger generations discover music from before their time. So cool. Glad you enjoyed it.
Oh, I'm so glad you're discovering the Doobies and Michael McDonald! I've been a fan since the 70s. Blue eyed soul basically means white folks who are crazy good at the soul licks. This is one of my favorite bands, along with Steely Dan, with whom Michael McDonald also collaborated. Steely Dan (essentially two guys plus whomever they choose to work with) are amazing with or without McDonald.
So many great hits. Thanks love your reaction videos america and the doobies were a couple of my favorites along with queen and a few others thanks again
I watch a lot of reactors and one thing you do that others don't is do some light research on the band/song. As a long-time fan of the song you're reacting to, it helps jog my memory listening to you read the info. Keep up the good work!
Michael McDonald and Patti LaBelle...On My On....fantastic video Michael McDonald.. What a Fool Believes Love Michael McDonald ❤️ Michael McDonald I keep Forgetting...my favorite song by Michael
I have seen them live several times. I still have my “Doobie Brothers Farewell Tour” T-shirt from 1982. It was too big then but fits me now...😂. Of course, they got back together and toured many more years.. probably still going. Please do more. Their earlier years has the more classic rock sound of the 70’s.
To me, this is one of the best songs ever that I never tire of hearing that stands the test of time...also a song that will put a lift in your day...great, great song.
Love seeing your unfiltered reaction and instantly recognizing what a great song this is! The 70s were an amazing decade of music and this was just one of 100s of great songs from that time.
Kenny Loggins had his own version of the song, the earlier version of the Doobies with Tom Johnston as the lead are more dirty, swampy rocking songs. Black Water I think you will love it!!
You picked a heck of a great one to start your Doobies experience with. You also need to check out a Tom Johnson song by them. "China Grove" is about as good as it gets!
I love your expression when you first heard his voice! Exactly the feeling you should have when you hear Michael McDonald!! It's the feeling I still get nearly 50 years later. ❤
Michael McDonald is one of those Uber-artists like Phil Collins in that he was EVERYWHERE singing and playing with EVERYONE contributing to their success too back in the late 70s/early 80s. You can hear his contributions clearly in Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like the Wind”, Toto’s “I’ll Be Over You” as well as duets with James Ingram “Yah Mo B There” and Patti LaBelle “On My Own”.
Yes please! More Doobie's! I loved all of the 70's Era music and the disco years were so fun we were always dancing...but even after all that greatness ❤️ here these guy's come to bless our ears some more. 😎✌️✨️
I was so lucky to have seen the Doobie Bros. twice in Macon, GA, in 1975 and 1979. Tom Johnston sang lead in the earlier years and McDonald sang on this album and also some solos. This band is so versatile, incorporating blues, jazz, country, folk & funk. Blue-eyed soul refers to a white singer with a soulful voice, like Gregg Allman (you should REALLY check out his Live in Macon, GA work, especially "Just Before the Bullets Fly," ... Daryl Hall is another blue-eyed soul singer. I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!
The Doobie Brothers music & Michael McDonald get you hooked from the start. The term "Blue Eyed Soul" was what a radio DJ in Phillie dubbed for the amazing duo the RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS. He was giving his audience a subtle clue these soulful singers both have blue eyes and are white not black. The term caught on for all soulful white voices.
The other day I started watching a lot of your reactions again. I love when you discover new bands and new sounds! I get to relive my experience back in the day. The joy of discovering something new never gets old.
That voice! Once you've really heard Michael McDonald sing, you will know his voice anywhere. And he has done a lot of backing vocals for different artists, as well as singing in some great duets and having a successful solo career. If you want to hear some of his finest solo work, check out "I Keep Forgettin'"--you will not be disappointed. And for a taste of the Doobie Brothers with a different lead singer, try "Black Water."
I only recently have I honestly listened to the Doobie Brothers, and I am 54. I've been a metal fan since the 80's and was pretty closed minded until I hit my mid 40's when I started venturing into classic rock of the 60's and 70's. The best part is it is all old music but really new to my world and I am now knee deep in The Doobie Brothers, The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Joe Walsh and probably the one band I have to listen to every day, Creedence Clearwater Revival. Man there was some great classic rock music in the 70's.
Welcome to my 70s of music Salvog!! Best era ever 1970s. And Michael was front and center. His unique voice. He is still making music. Check out his vast solo career also . Keep going !!
More DOOBIE BROTHERS?!
Yes!
There is no such thing as less Doobie Brothers. They have a HUGE pile of great music. Enjoy.
YES! Do “Long Train Runnin’ “ please!
They're the most diverse-sounding band I can think of. They had many different singers and styles over the years. I grew up thinking several of their songs were by several different bands.
Check out Black Water, you'll see what I mean.

Great story for the love of great music passed down from one generation to the next. And a great connection to your dad.
“I keep forgetting” is a must listen.
Yes! It has everything.
This song absolutely dominated the radio back in it's day. Epic.
AND MY STEREO IN MY ROOM !! 😀
I am 74 years old, and I lived in an amazing time of some of the greatest music ever created and performed
You are not a fool you just believe
The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band that have been around for 5 decades. They covered many genres of music over the years. @dagmars.6954 You nailed so many of their best RIGHT OFF THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD!!! Good on you!!! They had so many, you really can't go wrong!!!
Any of these would be a great next step down the Doobie Brothers rabbit hole!
This post is a great place to get started. Can't miss.
In my decrepit old lady voice: "Yes, we really knew how to boogie back in the olden days of 1979". It really wasn't that long ago.
😂😂😂 ... I always say that too, and realize it was actually around 40 years ago!! 😊😊 😉
It was a lifetime ago! But living thru it was sooooo worth it!
"Love can come and love can go"... But the Doobie Brothers are TIMELESS!! Thank you for your enthusiasm.
My mom was and still is a huge Doobies fan...born in 1970...I was raised by the Doobie brothers and John Denver....and also my parents...
Michael McDonald had then joined the Doobie brothers, replacing original vocalist Tom Johnston. Check out Tom’s voice on classic Doobie songs like Long Train Runnin’ and China Grove 🔥
Michael McDonald..(GOLDEN VOICE)..😎
Just wanted to add not only is the man singing but also plays two keyboards throughout the video. What a star...
Yes, this is dancin' music!

Here for the music and SalvoG’s expressions 🏆
I totally approve of listening to the studio version first. That way, you're hearing the song that everyone loved so much that it became a hit. Like you say, you never know what you're getting with a live version.
Dude... that was when music was music. I'm so glad that I grew up jamming to the REAL! A

The Police.
Awesome time
We had the BEST music ever. I feel so fortunate to have grown up when I did. The music was truly amazing.
Love the realisation of this era of music, the best time to be alive
The Doobies have soooo many hits. McDonald joined a little later but has such a great voice. Blue eyed soul refers to a "white" singer having a soulful voice. Black Water is primarily Patrick Simmons on lead vocals.
The Righteous Brothers are the epitome of blue-eyed soul
"Minute By Minute" by The Doobbie Brothers is also Fire 🔥 This genre of music is called "Blue-Eyed Soul" music which began in the early 60's with a group or duet called "The Righteous Brothers. "
You are in for a real journey. One of the best voices in the world.
Doobie Brothers...Blue-eyed Soul music....Love the Doobies. Minute by Minute is a good song too

The Doobie Brothers are one of the biggest groups of the '70s and early '80s, with many great songs. You will love this rabbit hole.
What makes this song magic is that it's how it makes you feel. There's so much promise and optimism. It really lifts your spirits up.
Yes, go down this rabbit hole! Black Water, Jesus is Just Alright, Takin' It To The Streets will keep you bopping!
You would also LOVE the group Steely Dan. Another rabbit hole of great tunes!
This is the later version of the Doobies which is a great version of them. Early Doobies is very worth checking out for sure. This particular song is like crack cocaine for the ears. Another Doobie banger with McDonald is Taking It to The Streets.

Stunning voice
He should listen to Kenny Loggins and Loggins & Messina. His band before he went solo. Your Mama Don't Dance is a favorite.
Back in the day there *were no videos* (gasp!). We heard what was played on the radio and then went to the record store to buy a single or an album, go home and put that vinyl on the stereo and crank up the volume. :) I guess that's part of the reason I enjoy these uploads so much.

its like the other people said, you get reborn with new sounds. Keep on growing man.
This makes me cry. I took my dad to see them many years ago. He passed in October and I listen to them often
Doobie Bros are awesome. I saw them in concert some 50+ years ago when they were the little known front band for Chicago.
Earlier DB features different lead can't remember his name.
Enjoy these hits "China Grove," "Black Water," "Long Train Runnin," "I Keep Forgettin."
Love Doobie Brothers!! 👍🏽
Tom Johnston or Pat Simmons

You're so happy because this tune we've loved for 43 years beats the hell out of the shit-show muzak you listen to today.

Long Train Runnin' is a good one. I love seeing a young person enjoy the music I grew up with!
China Grove
Born in 1970, this is one of my all-time favorite songs. I love it when people from younger generations discover music from before their time. So cool. Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm 60 years old, have loved The Doobie Brothers from the beginning, both with Tom and then Michael. Outstanding band in both versions.
Takin It to the Streets is my favorite Michael McDonald/Doobies song. Mike also sang with Steely Dan.
They were the best! Saw them live at the L.A. Coliseum.
This band produced so many gems!
Oh, I'm so glad you're discovering the Doobies and Michael McDonald! I've been a fan since the 70s. Blue eyed soul basically means white folks who are crazy good at the soul licks. I love this song so much. ❤
I like the way you let the song breathe and don't just talk all over it. Subscribed.
The Doobie Brothers played some of the most critically meaningful music of my time!
The Doobie Brothers had so much Soul.
and THAT is blue-eyed soul.
To me, this is one of the best songs ever that I never tire of hearing that stands the test of time...also a song that will put a lift in your day...great, great song.
This song came out when I was 10 and I'm still obsessed at 54. Your reaction just made my day! ❤

Favorite movie line of all time, Michael Douglass in Romancing the Stone, "awww ...damnit man!, the Doobie Brothers broke up, sh#*!"
I remember! 😂
More of theses Doobies please. Oh! And by the way you're awesome.
The other day I started watching a lot of your reactions again. I love when you discover new bands and new sounds! I get to relive my experience back in the day. The joy of discovering something new never gets old.

That look of yours as you're listening to it. I'm still spellbound by it even though I've heard it a thousand times!

They are! And you so many more to look forward to! Have you delved into Dire Straits yet? Try Sultans of Swing for a nice groove

Absolutely love your reaction. I believe everyone else out there who grew up with this feels the same. Thank you!! :)
Doobie Brothers, keep 'em coming. South City Midnight Lady, China Grove, It Keeps You Runnin', Long Train Running...
Pretty cool band. They usually play with 2 drummers and the song "Road Angel" makes great use of that.
Welcome to my high school years!! Best music ever IMO
Ditto.
Black Water, China Grove, Long Train Running
