- Learn how to make a photo look like a sketch. The easiest way to create a Pencil Sketch Look from ANY photo. As always i have some extra tricks in my video. So make sure you watch it full length. The Pencil Sketch Style uses layer bending and adjustment layers to create a very convincing result.
With my extra sauce you get super deep control over the different colors of your source photo. I also show you how to get shadow effects into you image to the Pencil Sketch looks even better and more interesting :)

I love your work, and your brushes and LUTs of course which I purchased a few days ago! I am not sure if it's suitable for a tutorial or even possible to be honest, but is there a way make the pencil sketch look a bit more like someone actually drew it? I always find the finished document looks like it has been generated, not drawn, which is I suspect not surprising!
I'd like one about skywriting, simulating text written in the sky with an aeroplane.

I watched several other Affinity tutorials for creating sketches from photos. This was by far the best! So glad you included the shadow trick omitted by the others. Can't wait to try it... Thanks for posting. This was a great example for me to learn how to put together different parts of Affinity into layers and groups, so you have a working project. Such a useful template for me to use creatively too. I have struggled for a while with the basics of this program, but now I can follow tutorials like this one , and this really helped me see how you can isolate the various tweaks into layers and then subgroups.
Hi Olivio! I have been following your channel for a few years now and using and practicing with your tutorials (which are all great by the way). This particular tutorial you have on PHOTO to SKETCH is by far the best PHOTO to SKETCH tutorial on the internet. Some may be quicker with fewer steps, but this tutorial gives you absolute control on how you want your image to look on a variety of backgrounds. I had to make a macro because I use it so much.

I loved it, a few things changed with the new version of Affinity 1.9.1 but I did manage to figure it out! Thanks keep the videos coming!
This is so much faster. You're doing in one AP project what I do in about 3. I still export out a thick line and thin line version, then matte paint between to get the detail I want. You're method does that with the bw/color slider adjust, and with the paper/texture already at the bottom of the layer stack, you're seeing the end result in the first (and only needed) session/project. Excellent! I'll give this a try next time I do the trace efx.

This is the best method I have seen so far to convert a photo into a pencil drawing ..hands down! that said, nothing will replace a real life hand drawn portrait.

This is kinda the DoG-Filter (Difference of Gaussians), which essentially finds edges, similar to Sobel, but more visually pleasing I guess. Great idea.

Very good results, but it's actually quicker to actually draw. provided you can draw!
Is there any filter to do that automatically?
search for "gmic" on google. it's a plugin, but it only works on windows. I have a video about it on my channel

No you can't. I would suggest you use a dedicated software like Davinci Resolve for that.

no, sorry, because that would be Illustration a i do photo-editing. there might be presets for photoshop that can do that, but not for affinity photo

Boy, graphics people sure have a different idea of what a sketch is, than artistic people. This result looks like what it is: a photo made monochrome, flat areas of texture filtered out, and areas of strong contrast (lines) punched up - like selective sharpening. To me, it looks nothing like a sketch. A sketch is a loose, artistic impression of a scene, with all the expressive distortions, selective omission, and quirks that quick linework entails. If anything, this is a bit like the initial linework of hyper-realistic drawing, which a niche of (rather obsessive) artists fall into! But most of them also do the shading & tones, which this mostly lacks.
First of all: I am an Artist with a Masters Degree in fine Art. Do you have a Masters Degree in Art? Secondly: Your idea of what a sketch is, is severely Limited. We aren't living in the times of Rembrandt anymore. ever heard of art styles like Hyper-realism for example? And thirdly and most importantly: This is a photo effect, so yes it looks like a photo - duh!
@@OlivioSarikas Nope, you win - your degree is bigger than mine! The point I was making was to do with your vid title, which calls that result a 'sketch'; I didn't think that was a good description.. Did you read where I referred to hyperrealism in my Comment? But that style isn't _sketching_, is it? That's ... an ultra-careful _drawing _ style - which, as I suggested, usually also has very careful shading and light effects, which your example doesn't. I think my definition of 'sketching' is about right. But boy, I feel powerful - I sure got you riled up!
