Great tutorial! just gotta say that if you find your Command J duplicate selection isn't working you will need to raterize you initial image so it becomes a pixel layer and not an image layer.
Wow, thanks for your supporting kind words, Paulo! I appreciate it, buddy. It's been a while I've created a video, but new videos are coming. So stay tuned 🤙🏽
Thank you Rensi for another well-produced and extremely educating lesson. It is refreshing to learn new things in photo manipulation. I have a few projects I want to apply this mushroom glow effect to. Back in my day, we had magic mushrooms and they would make everything glow.
You’re very welcome, buddy! I’m happy to help and would love to see the results. I know the days you’re talking about and these days were indeed lots of fun ✨. Talk soon 🤙🏼
Since you just bought my brushes, I assume you made the switch? 👊🏼 Thanks for your purchase and support and welcome to the Affinity side of life haha. Cheers
Thanks for the video. Love your work. Not sure where you plan to use this picture, but just a suggestion; it would have done well as a desktop wallpaper if it were in landscape.
Awesome - thanks for your kind words, Frank! That's actually a pretty cool idea. However, 99% of time I create my images with an 4:5 aspect ratio (optimised for IG). I'll consider doing 16:9 more often in the future! Cheers, buddy 🤙
Wow, What a difference. I tried following you on one of my pictures of three mushrooms and wasn't getting quite the same results especially when recoloring onto the stalk of the mushroom. However, I think I get the general idea although it takes me much longer. Excellent tutorial and opens the imagination Paul
Hi Rens, I enjoyed your video and sharing. This gave me a good idea about the concept. I am just started couple days ago of using Affinity Photo as my retirement hobby. I tried to follow your video but I do not see Star Brush under Brushes; I actually do not have the long list of brushes functions available like yours. How do I get them? I have imported fineliner-brushes but still do not see them under Brushes menu. Your advice is apprecaited.
Hey Arthur! Great that you started using Affinity Photo. It makes sense that you don't see the same brushes list, and that is because I custom made most of my brushes (most of them aren't available yet). Send me an email at rens@iamrensi.com and I'll get back to you ! :)
Thank you for your tutorial...I noticed in your "Gear Used" section , that you are using a Huion tablet. I have a Wacom Intuos Art Medium, but I bought it years ago, but it's still going strong. I would like to buy my sister, who just getting into digital art, a tablet, but the Wacoms are so expensive. How is the the size of your tablet, the pen pressure and over all use of the Huion working out for you?
Hey Kathleen! To be honest, I really enjoy working with it! But I have to admit that I used a very cheap and terrible drawing tablet before. So this one was a great upgrade and definitely eased my workflow, but I don't have so much comparison material. The size feels right to me and what I especially love is the dial on the top left (used for zooming or changing brush size). It can also be used wireless, which sometimes definitely comes in handy, and it can be used to draw on Android phones (I have an iPhone so I never got to try it)! I don't use pen pressure very often when doing photo manipulation, but it works like it should. I'm a happy user :) If you decide to order one, and you want to support me, you could order it through this affiliate link amzn.to/2UzVmfo for which I'll get a small commission as an Amazon Associate at no extra for you, but that's up to you! I hope this helps ! If you have any other questions, let me know!
Thanks Azmi ! Sorry for the late response, life happened. But it’s the Creative With Particles brush pack that I’ve created! You can check it out here: academy.iamrensi.com/p/creative-with-particles
The difference is that you delivered on the title and added extras on the back to deliver more than your title said with the brushes! Which is totally fine, in contrast to that other glowing ball video where your title promised a glowing ball, but half of the video was just editing the background and when it came to the title promise you started adverting
Hey Rens, thank you for sharing such a great Technic! On the TImestamp 12:05 you are adjusting colors by transforming the curves. Behind the curves there are some other colored lines (looking like a Chart of a bad Stock in green, yellow and purple). As I opened my adjustment tool, I have none of them. Only diagonal lines which I can transform. What I want to ask is, why I don't have that colored "bad stocks lines" behind the adjustment lines? Thank you!
First of all, thanks for your kind words! Honestly I'm not sure why you don't see these "stock"-lines. They represent the histogram of each RGB channel. What I've noticed is that the graph only shows when it's actually affecting a photo. So it won't show if you have an empty canvas and then create a Curves, neither when it's at the bottom of the layer stack! If you'd like to check the histogram, you can always open the 'Histogram'-panel via View > Studio > Histogram. Hope this helps! 👊🏼🔥
@@IAMRENSI I am honored, you are answering :D thank you :) I checked on the layer, as you said. I think it was just my fault and last time as I made the comment, the layer was not checked on. That's why I could not see those "stocklines". Your advice helped in deed!
Hi Rens, am loving your tutorials! you are so good at making excellent videos!! So many thanks for being an amazing teacher. I watched this twice over to see if I missed a step. At timestamp 10:31, when you apply the recolour, the glow appears around the mushroom. For me, it is only colouring the actual mushroom top, I'm not getting the glow all around. Any clue what I'm doing wrong? would so very much appreciate your guidance! I loved your masterclass too btw!!
I have the same problem. I’m using Affinity Photo 2 on the iPad. I note that when I press CMD J on the mushroom selection Rensi has a white background to his selection but mine shows as a transparent background. It is still showing as a pixel layer but just with a transparent background. Could this be what is stopping the Gaussian Blur spreading to the rest of the image. Love the tutorials though as I’m still learning so much.
I think I’ve solved my issue. On the iPad you have to make sure the ‘live filters’ are toggled on. I thought mine were but they weren’t. I’m not advanced enough to know the difference between a ‘non-live’ Gaussian blur and a ‘live’ Gaussian blur, but only the live one gives the effect.
the final result is different, my "selection line" didn't disappear like your video, so it didn't glow . I keep repeating this tutorial and the result is not the same
What a LEGEND you are for this. Couldn't be any simpler and very well detailed. Thank you very very much for this!!
Great tutorial! just gotta say that if you find your Command J duplicate selection isn't working you will need to raterize you initial image so it becomes a pixel layer and not an image layer.
Very good tip indeed! Or you can rasterize the duplicate so you keep one original 🙌
Yo your a hidden gem in this saturated social platform! More power to you bro!

Fantastic tutorial! Never thought to use this many blur layers to get the effect.
I love to use functions and features in different ways to get fun effects. Thanks for your kind words, buddy! 🔥
This is brilliant! Love your videos, and I think you're right. This is your best one yet.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Scott ! I’ll do my best to make my new vids even better 😏🔥

Even though I use PS I still learn a lot from your tutorials. Thank you for making them. Who knows I might switch to Affinity!

Jas Kang Thanks, I appreciate it! The editing was quite a lot of work this time, but I'm sure it adds up to the quality of the video! :)

my 100px and 250 px Gaussian Blur layers seem to cut off randomly with a straight edge leaving a white space... :(
Hey Dominic! That's probably solved when you check "Preserve Alpha"! Hope this helps 👊🏼
