There's a really great hidden gag in this, in that when he introduces the segment it's very clear that whoever was running the prompter forgot to put in punctiation, and so Alan just keeps on talking as he reads and appears slightly strained and out of breath toward the end. The Day Today was just PACKED with tiny little very easily missed details like this.
Couldn't agree more it's ridiculously packed with in jokes/edits and clever scripting but look at the talent pure brilliance from every single contributor and Armando is one of Scotland's most talented people of the last 30 years. A genius and so funny
I remember this being the first thing I unexpectedly laughed out loud to. I was 16 years old when it appeared in 1994 on BBC 2. I was lying on the sofa sideways and it hit me like nothing before. I remember to this day, I fell onto the floor and ringing my mate Ste (on the house phone) to see if he'd seen it. I've never laughed since. Not properly.
Even now when watching footie, I find myself internally saying 'that was liquid football!' when there is a good goal or bit of play. Good comedy stays with you like that...
Ogris - Austra vs USA Bengoechea - Uruguay vs Belgium Milla - Cameroon vs Columbia Clijsters - Belgium vs Uruguay Bein - West Germany vs UAE Scifo - Belgium vs Uruguay Redin - Columbia vs Cameroon Yes I know. No I don't care.
Some of that commentary was taken from his intro when he was on The Day Today with Christopher Morris, on radio 4. There was a great golfing commentary line in it "...as he swings back his bat thing *pause" AND HE'S HIT IT!"
My personal favorite line is: “Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, YESSSSS… THAT was a goal” it really sounds like he really supports the team to start with and then he just sounds like he wants to die at the end
I'm here because I just read this on the BBC football commentary... GOAL - England 2-1 Italy - Jermain Defoe (79 mins) Jermain Defoe picks up possession on the left side of the box, turns his defender and wellies the ball into the far top corner. That... was a goal! ....and it reminded me of this.
We should all acknowledge that “...and another!” is not only the best line from this video, but also one of the best comedy lines ever written.
For such a short video, it is so quotable!
Hes so stupid hahaha
"That was a goal!!!" Is my favorite line 😂
it always irks me when I quote this line and someone doesn't get the reference
it was improvised apparently
"...and another!!!" Always get me :)
its a nano second of genius....
:)
he really gets excited about it too as if it counts haha
Same here!!! It's the funniest thing ever!
Same!
Every single time.
I always burst out laughing when he shouts "AND ANOTHER!"
It's beautifully subtle. The day today is modern news 20 years ago a beautiful parody of it's time yet the trends remain
Shit! Did you see that? He must have a foot like a traction engine!
GOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL.....
Glad to hear that "Liquid Football" is now in FIFA 22 as one of the Create a Club commentary names
It's quite annoying, whenever I hear that and 'Football Friends' I always giggle and it puts me off... Even though I use the 'Football Friends' one...
"TWAT!" and "SHIT!" never fails to make me laugh!
''He must have a foot like a traction engine!"
That will never get old
I will never not laugh at the sincerity with which he delivers "...and another!"
😂 It's such a perfect way to display that he knows absolutely nothing about "...Sport and the Paralympics".
TWAAAT!!!! that was LIQUID football hahahahaahah superb that mate

Well that went downhill quickly
You alright mate?
This country
Depressing
Needless to say, you had the last laugh...
It's the isolated "er..." before the "Shit!" that stands out. Someone WROTE that, genius.
Surprisinglyit's the opposite. This was all improvised
that.....was a goal
SHIIIIT!
my reaction at ur pic
*****
xD
fucking so funny hahahahaha
"and the pudding in this case... is a football"
And the goalie has got football pie all over his face
SHIT! DID YOU SEE THAT?!

Dodgy why are you here ? Play some felmyst maybe kappa :D
He must have a foot like a traction engine!
One of the best 84 seconds in the history of TV
And another!
This is quite possibly the best football commentary ever. Match of the Day should take notes.
too right mate
THRIKER!
I always found myself saying this aloud when I'm watching the footy, just as someone's about to take a shot near the box.
Over 25 years old and it’s still hilarious.
Along with the Day Today horse racing commentary, this commentary is liquid gold and should be sent into space
It's liquid commentary
Bing bang. Stick it in, thank you and good night.
I'm guessing that's what Alan shouts during sex.
43 people hate liquid football
TWATS!
Unironically is the best thing I have ever seen in my whole life,
I would genuinely watch football if this was the commentary
Crazy that this was 20yrs ago & still funny.
What about Laurel and Hardy?
30 years ago and still funny
"The goalie has got football pie all over his shirt".
the 'and another' is just classic.
this is great banter, it really is
Even now when watching footie, I find myself internally saying 'that was liquid football!' when there is a good goal or bit of play. Good comedy stays with you like that...
Do Fifa commentary please Alan.
SurelyThisWorks that’d be the world’s greatest Easter egg.
There was an N64 game where you could unlock secret, sarcastic commentary. Can't remember what it was called.
It would be the best-selling video game to date.
BING BANG STICK IT IN! This cracks me up every time, thanks for posting!
THANK YOU, GOODNIGHT!
THRIKER!!!!
BOOF
EAT MY GOAL
This could be the greatest 84 seconds in the history of comedy
"Bing-Bang, stick it in, GOODNIGHT!"
Iconic.
0:35 "Eat that!......AND ANOTHER!"

Breaking news: Alan drafted in by BBC for tonight’s MOTD
This gets a guaranteed airing every world cup.
" and another" was the best 😂😂😂😂
'' and another ''
That was LIQUID FOOTBALL!
"And another!" is always my favourite part of this video, but the whole thing is great.
The “uh… SHIT” gets me
This is great banter, it really is
AND ANOTHER!
Partridge is so talented. He can do anything on tv.A natural in front of the camera.
Thanks Lynn
That was liquid football!
Always gets me in the World cup spirit
THAT WAS LIQUID FOOTBALL
This is basically Mark Goldbridge’s commentary on his career mode
Arguably the best English language comedy character ever.
This is sheer genius.
"and another" lol
Nicely summarised.
I remember watching this baked at a friends house many many moons ago literally in hysterics
This video still cracks me up
Thank you and goodnight.
Magnificent
58 people don't like the fact they've got football pie all over their shirts!
130 football pie covered twats now!
great BANTER
great banter
This is great banter

Fantastico!
We definitely needed a 25th anniversary “re-make” with more modern footage but with the exact commentary... I wish I was creative enough to do it 😂😂
Give him a second series you swine!
Yeah, give me a second series you shit!
I did read somewhere they will be a new series at the end of the year
@@Gretchluver1 SMELL MY CHEESE YOU MOTHER
They have given him a third.
I remember watching this on bbc 2 when it was new. Its still funny
Thriker!
I'm here because I just read this on the BBC football commentary...
GOAL - England 2-1 Italy - Jermain Defoe (79 mins)
Jermain Defoe picks up possession on the left side of the box, turns his defender and wellies the ball into the far top corner. That... was a goal!

I always hoped that someone would invite Alan (Steve Coogan)to do match commentary. It’s like he never watched football. Genius!!
probably the best thing about USA 94. oh and of course baggio skying one over the bar!
How interesting. And all in capital letters, too. Well done.
slight hint of a threat at the end !
100% agree. it definitely reminds one of actua soccer. it was the style at the time!
Tony Hayers disliked this video 34 times
Matt Harris prob cos he got punched with a turkey
David Marchant And he got his face poked by Alan Partridge’s Cheese.
He doesn't see Alan's future as necessarily with the BBC
He's dead.
It was probably farmers
I would love to see Alan Partridge as presenter of MotD
If all sports casts were like this I would totally watch the footy.
And another!!
I have been trying to find this for soo long and now I found it
Strikaaaaaaa!
Another World Cup, another watch of this!
He must have a foot like a traction engine!
