Square Wheels Thumping As Trains Cross 3 Track Bridge & Union Pacific RR DPU On Norfolk Southern RR

- Trains Crossing 3 Track Bridge Near Queensgate Yard, Train With Square Wheels, Indiana & Ohio Railway Train With Classic Locomotives, Trains With DPUs & Steel Coils Train With Locomotive Pushing The Rear. These 6 Trains are in Cincinnati on the CSX main line. Norfolk Southern, Indiana & Ohio Railway and Amtrak also use this line. This is the Winton Place section of Cincinnati just north of the entrance to Queensgate Yard and Gest Street Yard. Cincinnati Union Terminal is 5 miles south of here.
The first train is an Indiana And Ohio Railway train headed southbound. This is a manifest with classic locomotives going over the Mill Creek bridge and has a boxcar without graffiti. After this train we see the new fence that was erected next to Canal Ridge Road to curb the open dumping. People are constantly dumping stuff on Canal Ridge road. I have shown couches, chairs and all kinds of trash in my videos. I always pick some trash up when I am there but you can't notice it since it is everywhere. I even found a tripod in a tree. C'mon man.
Then we see a Norfolk Southern manifest with a DPU on the rear. This DPU sounded awesome!
The next train is a southbound Norfolk Southern intermodal going to Gest Street Yard.
After that we see the daily Norfolk Southern steel coils train with a rear DPU. Following that we have a huge Norfolk Southern manifest with a mid train DPU. Just before the end of the train arrives there is a southbound CSX train running next to it on the middle track. That train is just about to arrive in Queensgate Yard. Check out all the Tropicana refrigerated box cars on the train! Have you ever seen that many in one cut?
We then see the pets and the slide show. There is also a short clip of another southbound CSX auto racks train entering Queensgate Yard. This train is just north of Canal Ridge and behind Krogers. I recommend not rail fanning near Krogers. Canal Ridge is a little bit questionable but Kroger is just too dangerous to be rail fanning near. I don't even go in there although there are security guards inside.

Always good when the video starts off with an SD40 and GP38 not to mention the pristine box. too bad they weren't going up hill so we could hear those classic 2-stroke 645's.
Square wheels are like taking a sledgehammer and whacking the bearing and whacking the ball of the rail and that is not going to end well for either one of them!
Thanks for another video and we do enjoy them very much.
😊SWEET you got a horn salute in this video so did I on Thursday this week it was a really good one aswell my horn salute and herd 3 female engineer s on my radio scanner on Thursday its always an awesome feeling when you get a horn salute made me go home smiling 😃 Thursday night

Amazing videos Jaw tooth keep up the good work
Thanks for the video
We used to call cars with extremely flat wheels, "rail breakers"
Great video man! Keep up the great work
Hey jaw tooth cool trains. Very busy place for trains. Have a great weekend and a great railroad day 🙋♀️
First rate through and through. Enjoyed this one much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting group of trains. Good spot to watch. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.

Awesome! Do you know which line? Thanks for watching !
@@JawTooth Something like Gary to Chicago..
Nice video Mr. Tooth. Excellent quality, interesting
another outstanding video as always...keep up the fantastic job...!!!
Thanks, will do!
No wonder trains are falling over with wheels in that state. The forces effecting the axels and track must be enormous. Great evening viewing JT.
Thanks for the video today, Brian. Always enjoyable to watch. Enjoy the weekend, and see you on the next! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video and awesome catches
Boy, that’s one nasty flat spot on that square wheel, caused by heavy braking, so I’ve heard. I’ve also heard that these cars do have a long shelf life. And a cool horn salute too. That’s one neat little spot JT, just wish people didn’t litter. Nice work Jawtooth.👍🏼
thanks for watching!
More likely to be caused by a stuck brake than heavy braking. The wheel has to be dragged around for quite a while to develop a significant flat spot.
Good Morning All.. Have a great weekend!! Stay Safe..
Good morning!
Great video, the one train was really long.
hello jaw it's randy and i like yours video is cool thanks friends randy
Good afternoon jawtooth great job today
Morning!
Nice catch on the IOR train, that second engine was a fresh / NEW repaint!🎉🎉 Anybody catch that? Nice change from NS dirty engines😢
Cool, I didn't know that. Its always nice to see some color there
Again JT awesome video and watching enjoying too and enjoy the side show too AWESOME VIDEO Jaw Tooth ❤
Good afternoon I enjoyed the video👍👍
Thanks London!
Great video
Nice Video
Man, great catch on the IORY JT! We get one there every now and then, but not very often.
I assume that the square wheels are caused by the brakes locking on these wheels, resulting in wear on the running surface in contact with the rail.
General flat spots are caused when handbrake is left applied and the car is moved or by sticking brakes when a brake application has been made and the brakes stick when the trainline brakes are then released
The other worse option is a defective wheel. If it is just one wheel on an axle, probable defective wheel. Both wheels on one axle, brake issues.
Kids putting pennies on the rails 😂
great video as always Jaw, i love you man from italy
I read somewhere that there is a spec for out-of-round wheels. I guess it would cause a lot of damage to the rails. The hard part is - who finds them and measures them? Railroads are usually good at maintenance, so maybe those "thumpers" will be found :)
One problem is that even if a specific car is know to have a "marginal" wheel, as long as the car is in service the RR will have to live with it. Some of these cars end up far, far, far away from the entity that owns it. Maybe they need to tighten the standards so that bad wheels are replaced more quickly wherever the car happens to be.
@@GilmerJohn Good point - they have to identify the problem and then somehow catch it when it can be moved off to maintenance. Time off the rails probably costs money, but these things need to be fixed.
2 inches is supposed to be maximum flat spot before needing to be set out
@@DavidsIntro thank you!
There is an engine in the backyard that has had a flat spot for better than 6 months 😱

I like train videos on UA-cam jawtooth 👍
Indiana Ohio has good looking power. 😊😊
All the Genesee and Wyoming lines do -- including, now, some in the UK! The downside of G&W buying up all those regionals and short lines is that now they're a massive company, so more stringent emissions regulations apply to them, so a lot of that classic old power is likely to be retired before too long.
Very good video! Greetings from Brasil 🇧🇷
Hi from Mike b in mi thanks for all the video s
Thanks for watching!
Great good video, mr Jaw Tooth.
That horn salute was a warning. You stay on the wrong site celebrity American: there is on a other track also a train coming. But you understand that. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands 🇾🇪🇺🇸.
Nice salute on the Norfolk hauling the Auto Racks.
The flat wheels are both rail breakers and wheel breakers. They get that way on account of long trains. It takes a while for air brakes to apply so part of train is stopping and part moving. Result is wheels get locked and become flat. Proper solution is to shorten trains and to put more wheel lathes around system.
They should put up cameras and then prosecute.
❤
Now this is a thing that I am talking about
Great catches Brian!
I'm really envious of the fact that my country never had a single American locomotive on its railroad. Being a former British colony, we were only used to seeing British locomotives then and now most of those locomotives have been phased out leaving a few to do shunting works. Presently, we ve indian & chinese makes plying our railroads... personally, i see it as nothing compared to the American work horses. Great videos Jawtooth
It’s because British rails are narrower than USA, so our Locomotives are to big for your rails
@@DavidBeckerSr Didnt know that. However many thanks for sharing that info.
@@seph2801 You are very welcome, how polite!
Of course! Great train video !!!
That’s a lot of OJ! Fresh from Florida!
Was one dog about to pee on the other dogs head? lol
They are just playing
Good morning I thing the brakes has been locked up on that train before flat side
Lots of square wheels and otherwise beat-up cars on these tracks - tough on the rails!
That's very rare to see a Chessie grain hopper. Cool find.
I think there were two of them. That reminds me of the days when I lived by the Chessie System tracks
@@JawTooth Don't know if you've seen it yet, but CSX just put a Chessie heritage unit on the rails (and not the little sticker thing) A Chessie paint scheme. This shortly after the B&O heritage unit hit the rails! A trend I hope CSX continues!
It would have been cool if the square wheels would have been on Spongebob locomotive.
Nice video, Boss. But, Things are much more boring today. I miss the days of around 30 years ago when there were still a lot of 4-axle locomotives, rebuilt 1st generations, EMD's and U-boats, not to menition "butt-head" switchers like the one on the CET. However, I must say, it was very nice to see the SD40-2 and the "Geep" coupled to it in new paint. Thank the Lord for shortline railroads! What happened to the brown and white duck on your place? Is it dead? Thanks for another great video.
9:34...Kinda sounds like battle troops marching in unison.
[ Edit ] In addition, it's good to see a busy railway industry. It's always a good sign.
Morning JT!
Morning!
Good video jawtooth
Thanks!
NICE VIDEO
Thanks
I'm about to be up there too and Cincinnati Ohio
Awesome video. You sure got your money's worth today. Lots of action. How far are you from the Amtrak station from that site?
this is about 5 miles north of Cincinnati Union Terminal
That would be cool to get that exact train in H.O scale -
Photo the train and then computer 3D print the dirt on the locomotives & rust + graffiti on the cars 😳
I love the Northfolk Southern black painted locomotives and logo ..
Would love to copycat that entire train in an H.O scale form
"Got another great video for you today..." Well yeah, that goes without saying, JT!
I appreciate that!
Steel coils probably to either Ford or GE in Louisville
Some of the newer logos are not as noisy as they used to be
Maybe I'm goofy, did Chessie System change to CSX. ❤️📹👍🤔😳
Yes
That noise on that Trailer Train with the wheel noise are called "Flat Wheel" caused by a flat spot on that wheel.
Good Morning Jaw Tooth.
Unusually railroad service around here why i live doesn't start until late a lot of the time because of Up and Burlington Northern Santa Fe
Oh that's going into the yard
Hide a few game cameras and catch the dumpers!
2,400 tonnes steel coils plus the engines at 143 tonnes each
The locomotives weigh closer to 200 tons.
That was quick for there to already be another Norfolk southern train
Sometimes they get busy at this spot. They can run back to back with only minutes separating them
True but one thing i noticed is that rail service there seems to start right away compared to Arkansas which is where im from
Love the video, son!
Have you heard that Amtrak is considering bringing daily service to Cincinnati?
At first I didn't know it but the Rally's Checker sign above the Indiana Ohio, Norfolk Southern, CSX train, all rail trains. Jawtooth Awesome catch on the train line that was a ohio junky train and we built locomotives from around every country is historical oh nice it's a the end DPU and so often basically they gonna come up by the bridge and start dumping.!!! Intermodal manifest crossing the bridge oh perfect steal coral manifest but often times at Guest street vs. Queens gate they're bringing in, out good merchandise, resources so busy.!!! Awesome Union Pacific Freight DPU.!!! 0:15 1:15 14:15 15:27
@ 24:33...Ooohh, so that's where the cat got her name from. Cool. 👍
Pardon my slowness on such matters. 😏
The dog, but yes. :) Ironically, Chessie the dog is named after a railroad whose logo was a kitten.
Roll on Big O,get that juice up to lawsons in 48 hrs,,Lawson food store circa 1972 t.v ad for orange juice.
Thanks for watching my videos!
Are those cooling systems on the front and back of the tropicana cars? How are they powered, battery? Must to do a great job to keep a whole trim car cool. I want to get one for the side of my house.
Saving money on the wheel lathe use there! Excellent vid, Brian. Why do folks dump trash on someone else's property?
Because any time that doing something properly costs time or effort, some people will avoid that.
Lots of thumping wheels. More than usual.
Just watched another railfanning video from Winton Place.Found out the city of Cincinnati is gating the area off.Don't know if it's true.Let everyone knows if it's true or not.Thanks.
WOW horn salute andbel
Nice ❤️ 👌 👍 train today i wonders if they carry flammable goods in black tanker cars wonders how they don't get hot
Yes, they do -- anything with a red hazmat placard is flammable. Yes, they get hot in the sun, but not hot enough to cause problems. Remember that a fire needs air and there's almost none of that in a loaded tank car. It also typically needs an ignition source to start a fire. For example, ethanol burns _really_ easily but it won't spontaneously combust until you heat it to 365°C (690°F) -- a tank car is never going to get close to that (and the spontaneous combustion needs air, too).
@beeble2003 thank you
