Abandoned RR Tracks At 4 Track Crossing, BIG Coal Train Almost 1,000 Axles & Trains Cross Trestle!

- Nearly 1,000 Axle Coal Train Passes Recently Abandoned Railroad Tracks AT 4 Track Crossing. CSX Mixed Freight Knocks Down The Signal, Norfolk Southern Trains Cross Giant Railroad Bridge Over Town & Fast Coal Train Goes Under Bridge. These trains are in Ashland, Kentucky and Kenova, West Virginia. We also have a CSX mixed freight with 6 locomotives.
The 4 track railroad crossing recently had 2 of the tracks abandoned and removed. Due to local steel mills closing these tracks were no longer needed. This is Ashland, Kentucky next to the Amtrak station. The 2 main trains are still fairly busy with CSX and Amtrak, although Amtrak only makes 3 round trips a week. Look how long that first coal train was! Pretty cool how just 2 locomotives can pull that much and at that speed. The next train is a CSX mixed freight and we see it pass the signals. Notice two of the signals change to red as it passes.
Then we go outside of Ashland on the same line and see a train with 6 locomotives heading east. This train was actually filmed first when it was still sunny out.
After that I headed over to Kenova, West Virginia. We see a Norfolk Southern train coming over the gigantic bridge from Ohio into Kenova. This mixed freight has a DPU on the rear.
The next train is a loaded coal train on the CSX going under the bridge heading towards Ashland, Kentucky. Right after that train is another train going over the big railroad bridge on Norfolk Southern.
Don't miss the pets and the slide show after the trains! I also went across the river to Ironton, Ohio and got a couple of pictures for this video. Those pictures are of the flood wall and a caboose in Ironton.
Filmed Wednesday, August 9, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

That dog was literally "a runner". LOL
Love watching your videos jawtooth. Garry from Australia 🇦🇺.
Thanks Garry!
Ditto from Manchester,England.
Amazing videos jaw tooth keep up the good work
3:30 Wow, you can see so far down the line it's almost like being out west ! Nice shot !
Changes all the time. Thanks.
Magnificent catches of the trains coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars, keep up the great work, Brian.
HiJT you have such wonderful videos to watch thanks again❤❤❤
Great to show the abandoned tracks as well as the
coal train going through, glad that dog got across

Glad you enjoyed it
Yes, it is a scrap dealer and they have their own little end cab switcher@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars
Great spots to see trains. The more locomotives the better.
Many thanks!
Hello JT I loved in the beginning, showing the crossings, and one of them had the planks for the Crossing that’s from back in the day and that’s a great thing to model for my Era thanks 👍🏻🚂🚂
Glad you enjoyed it!
great shot on first train
Excellent catch, JT, including a massive, coal train, thank you.
Thank you too!
Great video JT. I grew up in Ashland. The track closest to the river was from Armco going from the main mill up to the foundry at 23rd St. The next ripped up track used to be the west bound main, the next in service track was the yard lead for the Ashland yard and the 4th track was the East bound main. When I was in high school the main lines went around the yard on both sides. Then Chessie changed the track around and made the two closest tracks to the floodwall the main lines. Before that you had the yard lead also split and go around the yard on both sides so trains could pull up to exchange cars in the yard east or west bound without blocking the mains. There was a yard tower at 34th St that I used to ride my bike to and watch the GP9s switching the yard. Once, one of the yard crews asked if I'd like to ride. Of course I said yes. After I got on we came down river to the end of the yard by downtown. There they let me run the engine for about an hour. We were out of sight from the tower. The track through Ashland was basically triple track from Big Sandy Junction to Russell Yard at that time.
OMG that's a long long train WOW
thanks for watching!
Breaks my heart to see track removed. Thanks Brian. God bless
Mine too! I try to film them before they are gone. God bless you also!
Hi JT, i love this crossing i remember it being 4 tracks shame its now 2. but it has great trains! Hope the little dog ok where was its owner i wonder, should have been on a lead. Nice area to film JT! ❤😊
Thanks 👍
Great stuff JT. I thought Ashland was a street running town. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
You got some great trains here JT. I counted 239 cars on the 1st coal train, as did a couple others. On the 3rd train, outside Ashland, exactly half way into the train, 61 cars, is a grainer that your old buddy, Hobo Shoestring, would call "a full Cadillac ride". Don't see a lot of them. Thanks for a great video.
hello jaw it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks jaw friends randy
That's a big coal train with 1,000 axles! That must make about 250 cars. I've rarely seen a train that long!
You need a packed lunch waiting for that first train to pass.😂😂😂
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 👍🙏
The jagged piles of ties and rails are almost like a final salute to the passing trains on the mainline. You can tell winter isn't far away with the high number of propane tank cars out there. Apparently the second CSX coal train is headed to a dumper where they will be uncoupled because the colored ends aren't matching up for rotary tipping. The NS train with the UP unit was certainly testing the old bridge steel with all the loads of new steel. Plenty of older Freight cars as well as railroads and companies no longer around. It appears Loki was staring at the goats pondering if it should conduct a roundup of them but then thought Ahhh it's too much like work. Thanks for today's railroad action Roundup.
I thought for sure that train with six locomotives would have been REALLY long! Enjoyed watching and seeing that huge train bridge! Will have to go visit that soon. Thanks for another great video JT!!!
Thank you very much!
That was awesome JT, another 200+ car train must be 239 if my math is correct. Very close too those massive iron ore trains in Australia.
You're correct
Thank you for the shout-out JT. I watch every day, Keep em coming.
Any time!
What a long train. How cool can you get and fast too. Little dogs worry me along tracks. Always make my day when I see one of your train videos. 😊We love the angles and views the way you film these trains. Love the NS with the DPU. ❤ Loki is a big boy. Sweet fur babies. Thanks Mr JT.❤😊
Thanks for watching
And Brian I just want to express my appreciation for all the wonderful videos that you post they are absolutely mind blowing keep up the fantastic work they are awesome just like you 😎
Hey jaw tooth cool trains. That's a very long bridge. Lots of live action son. Have a great railroad day 🙋♀️🚂
You're right JT. It was super long! 239 coal cars. Nearly unbelievable. I love long trains! ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
You filmed some good CSX and NS trains, I like the big coal trains loaded and empty!🛤🚂
Wow, that is a low clearance under the rusty girder bridge you showed briefly after the first two trains. There is not even a sign on it showing the clearance.
You got some great trains that day, nice work!
Thanks for watching!
OUTSTANDING! this vid belongs in the hall of fame along with JT!
50 years I was 12 they shut down the rail. Before that we had 350 cars on a train average. 5 years ago they put down cement ties and welded rail .it is a commute train and at night they run short freight trains.
I never imagined trains could be that long. They sure were holding up traffic.
@@neanderthal88 is that more than 2miles
Really nice mixed freight. Beautiful area to film trains too. 😊😊😊
Thank you very much!
Both coal related trains were mind blowing long. that is one cool place for a rail fan. thank you.
Thanks for watching
974 axles on that first coal train means there were 239 coal gondola cars on the train. 974 minus 18 acles for the three locomotives means 956 gondola car axles. When you divide the 956 axles by four axles per car, you end up with 239 gondola cars. This was a very loong train. The cars on this train appeared to me to be empty because I did not see any coal peeking up over the sides of the gondolas. The loaded CSX coal train in Kenova, West Virginia was also a long train. I enjoyed watching this video of the trains that you caught at Ashland, Kentucky and Kenova, West Virginia, Jaw Tooth!
Another cool set of trains. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Coal, it keeps the lights on. Awesome job JT.👍🏼😎
Thanks 👍
Awesome catches! Great video JT!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Thank you very much!
Amazing it 18:10 super like 👍 greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you! Cheers!
I google mapped ashland, panned out, went left and right, WOW there is a LOT of railroading around there.🚂🚂
I wish I could film the locomotive facility at that huge yard
Excellent video from interesting places. 👍
Many thanks!
Speaking of coal trains one really hot summer day, a coal train on the way into Salina Ks. I guess the rail had gotten so hot that it couldn't handle the weight, and the train derailed. I cannot remember how many cars toppled over, but it was a big mess. UP runs coal trains through this area to a power plant near Topeka.
Great show JT 👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
Awesome as always JawTooth 👌👌👍👍👌🤗
Thanks for the visit
Nicely done! Great finds sir! And that coal train was massive, I'm assuming it was empty. Then 6 locomotives??!! Wow! I can't wait to show my boys this one, they love counting the locomotives.
Thank you very much!
I love seeing Norfie. Beautiful cat ❤
Really interesting about the river that close and very wide..thanks for sharing..
Thanks for watching
Wow that’s a lot of coal… think it’s empty but still, there might be more coal stuck to the sides than in my house! (We have no coal there)
@abzolute you could say that again.
EV Fuel
That coal train was crazy long wow, awesome video again.
Thank you very much!
That dog picked a good time to cross
He had to book
Wow JT I believe they emptied the yard on this train.!!
JT U sure found a great place for really long trains!
I like going over there. That is one of my favourite places
@@JawToothHave you been to the wye interchange that's just to the north of DeCoursey?
Oh yeah, a bunch. I filmed that derailment there@@dsmith9964
Great great video. 😊😎👍👍👍!!!
The look of a long coal train just appears more impressive than other trains.
Eastbound and Down, Loaded Up and Trackin’
What is the statue by the river? This is a great way to see America and the hard working trains.
Great video JT,a lot of train action, very cool, coal trains very cool.👍👌😇
Thank you very much!
Great video gotta love those coal trains thanks Brian
Thanks for watching
Very interesting stuff JT.
10 mile train awesome. Denis from Santa Rosa CA
Awesome trains. Thanks for the video stay well roll on
Thanks, will do!
The puppy is so much bigger than Chessy now.
WOW 6 CSX Locomotives! Coal keeps lights on, spot on. Even a 4M sq ft EV battery plant in Kanas is having to upgrade & use coal fired power plants requiring 250 megawatts of power or enough to power a city io make EV car batteries mandated by Fed gov't.
Super mixed freight going over the bridge! ❤ Do you know when the bridge was built JT? It looks pretty old. I hate crossing the Ohio River. I have a phobia about long bridges. 😊😊😊😊
Thanks as always, JT. Love your videos, they're pretty good... loved the long trains!!! And as you say... awesome!! Nice pond!
Thank you very much!
Wow! Awesome catch Brian! I love coal trains as well!
Thanks!
@@JawTooth You're welcome!
Wow 235 cars that's mighty impressive 😊
Goodness I’d probably have a quick sleep waiting for that first train to go past you wouldn’t want to be running late for work 😂
I’d never used the term booking for speed until I started watching this channel, it’s funny the reaction I get from my friends and family, that second train had some where to be 😆
I haves always loved watching the really long trains with different carriages from when I was a kid watching them with dad and or my grandpa 😊
That were removing tracks when I was there and working on tracks so no trains but at least kenova was good train day on on the NS line
Excellent Video JT
💮🚂🇮🇳💮🚂
Thanks 💯
Jaw tooth I rodger Presley from Russell County Lebanon Virginia really like all of your videos of all the trains
I think it's a short sighted mistake whenever the railroads cut capacity. There are a lot of scrapped assets the railroads wish they'd have never gotten rid of. Great video, enjoyed it much, thanks JT!
I agree with you
I agree with you !
That was Kentucky state it a,beautiful state 😊
Sure is!
That is one humongous coal train. Pretty amazing.
It looks like the pup wants to herd the critters.
I love your train Bridges web some nice ones leaving St Louis crossing the Mississippi
Cool, thanks!
That bridge is spectacular!
thanks for watching
That is one big, long train! 😮
I still still to this day see lashups of 5 to 6 locos with a few of the old B units around here. They head north near the Canadian border to serve the many lumber mills. All BNSF power. NE Washington state.
😅when are you gonna film central station New York?😅thats a good one.😂
I did one time a few years ago. I went there with Millenniumforce
I was there in late September, and the tracks were officially torn out.
Edit: The wooden grade was no longer there, and part where the tracks were, is now just a pile of ties facing towards the bridges in to Ashland
1st Train: 3 engines and 239 cars
I love long trains like this
Wow that was a whopper! I counted a phwacking 219 cars ..never seen a 200+ before. 😃
Amazing! That’s a very long train!
Very!
I got that crossing in action last day of august for my first time and got a ns train across the river too
😅look there, aone licht blue painted RR bridge, they are mostly rost brown, coooool.👍👍👍👍
There should be a “National Fossil Fuels Day”, observing the enormous power and the responsible use of these fuels.
I agree. I think most people agree but you will always have a few noisy protestors
That's a long coal train indeed! I think it was empty by the look of the springs. Nice catch for sure :) I wouldn't mind a ride on that 6 engine CSX train - Another big train with lots of power!
Thank you very much!
Everything should be shipped by rail and trucks should be used for local delivery 🚚 only.
Mid air railroad! Thanks.
You bet!
Good morning Jaw Tooth.
Awesome video but wait there’s more 👍😎🇺🇸🚂👍
More to come!
Another great video !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loki sure would like to get over there and play? With the goats. ❤❤
Love the coal train! ❤❤❤ They were working hard to pull all of that! 😊😊😊
You got that right!
Thats what I was thinking, longest coal train I've ever seen 😊
thanks for watching!
Norfie we miss you
