      Miranda Couche mine too! But I also had what he said too the first time I called an ambulance on myself to find out I was just processing emotions. Or not processing one of the two. It really sucks. But he’s right no danger but yes intense. I stopped running from them and that seemed to help a lot!! Or distract yourself.

      I experience all of these symptoms too, I hate it. And alot if times it kind of feels like my heart skips a beat and I get this strange tingling sensation throughout my body, and it makes me feel kind of week. This is usually followed by shortness of breath and occasionally I'll start violently shaking for what seems like forever. Just had one this morning and tried hitting myself with hit water in the shower to soothe things. I started having these almost a year ago. I pray it ends soon

    I have it now. Woke up 3am from bf, went to toilet, then laid down and started getting anxiety a bit, kinda like I dont have enough oxygen. Then I started worrying about my health and think like what if I die in my sleep of heart failure etc... gets me even more anxious, start to pay to much attention to my breath, feel hungry, start to pay attention to everything I feel... gets me more anxious. I go online to distract myself and it seems to help. I started feeling a bit weak to like the feeling right before your going to get nauseous.

      For me, often I'll notice that everything looks too "sharp", vivid and very surreal. I found out later that this is called "Derealization". It's a very weird feeling and hard to describe. Everything looks "normal" but your entire body is telling you it's not. That something is wrong, or off. Kind of like you're in a very sharp, hyper focused, intense, vivid dream.
      If that makes sense. I started having panic attacks after I "overdosed" on an edible. That was over 4 years ago..
      If it's not lightheadedness/dizziness, it feels like the ground is moving, like I'm standing on a boat.
      Dry mouth, an intense feeling of dread, ringing in my ears, tunnel vision, or a slow closing in graying/darkening of my peripheral vision. I guess that's just tunnel vision? Cold/numb/tingling hands, hot face, sweating especially my hands and upper back. Chest tightens up and my breathing feels weird. Everything in my body is "screaming" that something's wrong, I'm in danger or dying. It sounds ridiculous writing it out like that. All the while I feel like everyone can tell when it's happening but most of the time I look normal.
      One time I was in line at the grocery store and I had a panic attack. A woman in front of me said "Are you okay? You don't look good, your face is really pale." This was about the worst thing someone could have said, I immediately felt my vision closing in and dizziness getting worse. I barely squeaked out "Yea. I'm having a panic attack." Turns out she was a nurse, so she had me sit down, in case I passed out (which has never happened to me, thankfully). The store asked if I wanted them to call the paramedics, and I begged them not to. I just told them that it's not the first time this has happened, I just needed a few minutes and I'd be fine. Which was true.
      Anyway, rarely (thank God), I've experience depersonalization instead of derealization. Which people describe as if you're looking through someone else eyes, your hands don't "seem" like they're yours, it feels like you're inside an unfamiliar body. Google it, I'm sure there's better explanations elsewhere. I've also had blurry vision, or like a motion blur kind of thing. Or double vision.
      In the beginning, for a while, I was terrified of passing out because I'd always heard that could happen but after years of dealing with it, it hasn't happened, so knowing that helps.
      Also knowing what is happening biologically, physically and chemically, knowing that you're not going to die. Quite the opposite, this is your body's way of protecting you. So as long as you focus on your breathing (i.e. don't hyperventilate), you'll be just find. I find "Square Breathing" extremely helpful. This technique is used by professionals everyone from Navy Seals to Entertainers/Public Speakers, to Surgeons. You inhale through your nose slowly for 4 seconds, hold it in for 4 seconds, exhale slowly through your mouth for 4 seconds and finally you hold that for 4 seconds. Make sure you're counting real full seconds. Or if you feel like you're hyperventilating, try breathing through one nostril by putting your finger on the other. Don't avoid things that trigger panic attacks, you need to push yourself to get through them, eventually you will learn that nothing bad is going to happen and all panic attacks are temporary. If you start avoiding things, it will just continue to het worse.
      Just make sure that you don't become too focused on intentionally breathing. You might end up in a very bad habit of overbreathing or intentionally breathing all the time. I dealt with that for months and it was freaking brutal, from the time I woke up until I fell asleep I was breathing intentionally and I couldn't stop. The same thing happens to people with blinking or swallowing. It's no good. So distract yourself with anything else if you find yourself starting to do that.
      Just remember that you're not alone. Tons of people deal with the same things you're struggling with and it gets better. Panic attacks don't last forever, they will stop. You're not going to die and this is your body's most primal defense mechanism. Your body's way of protecting you from actually dangerous things. So just tell your brain/sympathetic nervous system "Hey, thanks for always having my back but everything's fine right now, I'll hit you up when I do need you." Lol =p

    I went to the ER last week (that's how bad my panic attack was) I literally felt like my heart was going to come out of my chest and I had one million thoughts per second. The scariest thing EVER... Well they ran tests, did an EKG etc well everything was fine, they told me it was a panic attack. They gave me an Ativan then sent me home. I'll say this about panic attacks... I don't wish then on ANYONE!!!

    -breathless
    -head buzzes
    - "white room" (I call it that, feels like I'm in a completely white room inside my head no thoughts at all, no feelings but every feeling at the same time)
    -uncontrollable shaking and sobbing
    -dizziness, I have to lean on a wall because the room spins
    -it feels like I'm dying
    -uncontrollable emotions, I cry really hard but laugh at the same time, I can't control it at all
    -no energy and depressive feelings
    -get really cold (cold sweating)
    people get really scared of me especially at the cry and laugh part. They think I went mental or that I played a prank

    I also had some very bad panic attacks. The thing that worries me the most is, if I start feeling these symptoms and think "oh its just a panic attack, it will soon end", but what if its not a panic attack but something dangerous like a heart attack or blood clot. I live alone, and once had to call my mom in the middle of the night, because I was sure I was going to die, she soon calmed me down, and my breathing soon became normal again. I just dont want to end up thinking it will go over, if its something serious, and I actually could die if I dont contact someone.

Then as I got back to school and work I over stressed my self and got into surges that rose to panic attacks. Went to the ER for the third time only this time was diagnosed with anxiety, been improving since then but still been having small little moments of fatigue and stress. Even scheduled a doctor’s appointment next month. I honestly believe it’s all anxiety and my post concussion symptoms are gone now, anxiety is the worst and hopefully anyone who’s going through something similar gets well soon. I'm 14, and I have chronic panic attacks... The only way that I can describe it, is that it's Hell. I just had one today, and embarrassed myself in front of my entire class... I hate it more than anything, and would do anything to get them to stop and let myself be a normal human being. I got to the point last year where I was having them at least twice a week for about a month... I don't want to have to go through that again, but I'm always paranoid that it will happen. You are a true hero... I think that anyone who goes through this is a total hero, and should be deeply commended. God bless, and I pray that everything will get and stay better for you!

    to rule out that I don't have any medical problems helps a lot in fighting panic attacks. When my heart beats really fast and started to have difficulty in breathing and some dizziness I always think that it is just a panic attack and nothings wrong with my body.

      Fernando Acabado (sorry to reply to this 2 years later lol) this is huge. If someone genuinely worries their heart or body is going to fail them, that can lead to and feed the panic. You need to be able to tell yourself that it is just a panic attack, it will pass.

    This video helped so much. I believe I experienced my first panic attack today and it was extremely scary. I thought I was having a heart attack and it happened out of nowhere. I kept pacing back and forth and kept debating calling 911. I had no idea what was going on. The scariest part was that I was home alone with my 8 month old daughter. This made it worse for me as I kept constantly thinking about what would happen if something happened to me while I am alone with her or if something happened to me and I wasn't around for her. These feelings made it worse and I felt like I was spiraling out of control. I have always had anxiety but I have never experience a panic attack. I fear that I will have another one. I always thought people just hyperventilated and that was it. Sorry for ranting. I just wanted to thank you for this video as it helps me understand things a bit more.

    • @LucasMattiello
      @LucasMattiello  10 років тому

      Excellent to hear the video was helpful Leepsz :) It's definitely a scary feeling, especially the first time as it's so foreign and can drive up the concern that you're going "crazy" when it happens because thinking clearly can be a challenge. Living in fear of having another one is common, a couple suggestions would be when you feel anxiety and panic starting to build, focus on diaphragm breathing techniques. When this comes up, you may want to go outside and get fresh air, the change in scenery can also reduce the feelings.
      No need to apologize about ranting, this is healthy in that you're releasing you frustrations and knowing that you're not alone can be very comforting. I first started fighting back against anxiety by going to online websites and forums to vent and realize I wasn't alone, so I completely understand and appreciate your courage in sharing!

The thing you learn to help you deal with it is to keep in mind that no matter how bad it feels, it CAN'T hurt you and you WON'T lose control of yourself. You won't be sick, you won't pass out and you're NOT going to die. Above all else, focus on what he says, it WILL pass, it will last from about 5-20 minutes normally, to up to an hour at worst.

    There was a time in my life when I was having panic attacks several times a week. It all started with one big attack and then it sort of snowballed. I was so afraid to have another one that it would trigger them. I learned to distract myself during an attack. I'd call someone to chat, or play a game on my phone. Once I recognized it for what it was and just let it run it's course, they stopped happening. I think the fact that I no longer smoke nor work in a smoky environment helps also. I think the cigarettes increased my heartrate which in turn triggered the attacks. just a theory

    • @LucasMattiello
      @LucasMattiello  10 років тому

      M Brack, thank you for your comment and congrats on reducing the number of panic attacks you have! You're right on how changing your environment often makes the intensity go down. You raise an interesting point with the cigarettes as often when people are feeling anxious the have a smoke to calm down. The cigarettes has many ingredients that cause your hear rate to speed up, but when you smoke, your breathing is slow and relaxed, which lowers your heart rate. So breathing in a calm manner daily will do the same and you avoid the harmful contents of cigarettes!

    My jaw gets locked up and my chest feels so heavy. Then I get really lightheaded and I start hyperventilating. I definitely get exhausted and just sleep instantly. Sometimes my hands and feet go numb too. It's last for about 10-15 minutes like you said.

    • @LucasMattiello
      @LucasMattiello  9 років тому +1

      +Ellie Hicks This is a common description. Muscle tension happens because your body gets in a "fight-flight" state and burns through your body's glucose, which is why you'll feel exhausted after. You may also find that you crave sweets after, this is because your body burned through all that energy and is looking to replenish.
      You will want to try Diaphragm Breathing exercises to help bring more calm and can help prevent panic attacks from happening. I have a video on the channel showing how to do it. This is effective because when you hyperventilate, it accelerates the panic attack.

    • @lexieclements1653
      @lexieclements1653 8 років тому +3

      I know this is like 3 months late, but if you're still unsure I'll tell you what helps me. I get panic attacks a lot and my friend will keep reminding me to take slow, deep breaths. She'll say things like "Breathe. You're ok. Everything's ok." and what will also help me is to take a deep breath in, hold for about 5 seconds, then breathe out. And I'll usually close my eyes to keep myself from seeing/worrying about the situation that's causing the panic attack so that I can strictly focus on my breathing. It also helps me when someone I trust is reminding me that I'm ok because I always struggle to get myself out of a panic attack, but some people would rather be left alone. So it just depends on the person.

      Susie Reid I'm an adult man, but what helped me recently when I had one of my worst panic attacks was talking to my Dad. He understood, and just talked. He wasn't asking me any questions, he was just talking... It helped me feel grounded and was comforting despite the chaos. Just let the person work through it, maybe remind them to breath. But acknowledging that something is wrong or asking questions, which is a natural reactions kind of worsens the feeling because it confirms that something is wrong. Just act normal and stay calm.

    • @LucasMattiello
      @LucasMattiello  8 років тому +1

      +SusieReid These are all great suggestions as there's no one strategy that works. The most important part is you're there and let the person know they're not alone. Suggesting they breathe will be a key as choppy breathing will often be a key for them getting the panic attack in the first place. The other is to ask them "What do you need?" This is a simple question that allows them to gain control and tell you how to help, in addition it takes their focus off the panic attack and on something else, which will likely help as well.

It does feel like you've lost control and you're gonna die and afterwards you're very tired out. My heart starts pounding but I get an really weird feeling that I can't explain in my chest and neck area. Like pressure. Shortness of breath. Sometimes a headache. Also I have been getting crazy muscle spasms. Like I try to ignore it and gets worse and worse until I feel like I'm on that cusp of having a heart attack and I have to sit up or get up and it subsides a little bit. Also it might come back 5 10 minutes later. I don't just have one. It will come and go for awhile. I have had tests done and everything has came back normal and I don't get it. I have never had a history of panic attacks. And everybody panic attack symptoms seems pretty different to what's been happening to me. I just don't know what's wrong and I woulda thougjt all the tests coming back normal would have helped if it was a panic attack but it's still happening. I don't usually shake but my throat closes over and it's just hell pretty much. Some of my panic attacks ended by me literally fainting. I can't breathe when I have the "bad ones" so after 20 minutes of shallow breathing I usually start fainting and that literally got me to hospital several times and it flipping sucks, I wish I knew how to stop having panic attacks but there is literally nothing working for me. Some of the "smaller" panic attacks last 5-10 minutes and after that I feel back to normal basically but the bigger ones are just so nerve wracking bc I don't know if the ambulance is gonna come, if someone helps etc. and that adds just to the whole situation. I hate this I hate panic attacks

      You're going to want to reflect on what stressors you're having in your life leading up to the panic attack as that's the key because they build up and cause the panic attack. Common ones are: lack of sleep, poor diet, too much caffeine, lack of exercise, stress levels, isolation, fear of the future. See which apply to you, then you can take control and start making changes.

      +heather lacovara I understand how you're feeling and the following helped me:
      -researching panic attacks and finding that it's physically impossible for you to die or even having a heart attack from one.
      -For many of my clients, they will have many medical tests done and still feel that something was overlooked. Steps that have helped get them started are:
      -Practice diaphragm breathing daily. I have a video of how to on this channel
      -Positive self-talk when feeling anxious that "I will be fine..."
      -Review what stresses you were dealing with the day of your panic attacks. Often panic attacks are the result of compounding stress, so when you review your stressors, you can see what needs to be changed.
      -Nutrition is often overlooked. Eating healthier food and avoiding caffeine, sugars, junk food will all help.
      The doom scenario of expecting it to happen tomorrow, often primes us to seek any sign of validation for having a panic attack, so you become hyper aware of your body and this can leads to a self-fulfilling prophesy for a panic attack.
      In regards to detachment: What often occurs is that focus is missing and people feel like they're not aware of what's going on and lose sense of reality. When this occurs, what I've found helpful is picking out an object, any object and starting at it while diaphragm breathing. What this does is it narrows your focus and the breathing helps keep you grounded.
      Any questions, feel free to ask.

    my panic attacks were caused by a panic attack. had one and it scared me so bad I have had them ever since, six years and I basicly have them on a daily basis to this day. I often wake up in the middle of the night and will be in peak panic as soon as I open my eyes. these are the most intense in my case. after six years I still experience symptoms in my attacks that I've never had before, it's like a curse that evolves with time to keep me in terror. there have been many times I thought I was "better" I would not need meds for weeks maybe months and then it would be back suddenly and worse than ever. I have been looked down on for it, thought of as weak. but I have felt the air be sucked out of the room, I have felt my mind pause on a thought and freeze an image in my head like my mind had shut off. I have felt my heart race at intense rates randomly for no reason, I have felt numb, electrical like sensations, I have felt my scalp crawl and my skin burn, I have been taken to my knees by this for six years and I'm still here.

    • @LucasMattiello
      @LucasMattiello  8 років тому

      Thank you for your honesty +johnny chimpo That takes courage to share like that. I experienced much of what you have described, especially the panic attacks being created by thoughts of panic attacks.
      This is called "anticipatory anxiety" where your mind begins to think, generally about dreaded thoughts linked to having a panic attack, which then your body begins to react to your thoughts, so it activates the fight/flight response which is when your heart rate skyrockets, muscles tense, and will panic.
      It's a situation where often you make progress, then have a setback, so can be frustrating. I can make suggestions to help, but first need to know what you've tried.

      +Mr. Stress Management lots of meds. lexapro, Zoloft, I use xanax for emergencies now but that's all I use. I usually just get up and try to stay buisy, sleep is a huge factor, if I'm awake for lets say 18 hours I will trigger a massive attack

    My last severe panic attack felt like the Angel of Death wanted to take my soul! Very scary and frightening! I had epileptic episodes which made my body twitch very hard as if the Angel of Death wanted to snatch my soul out of my body. The feeling of doom is very scary! I felt like as you said, something wanting to take control of my body as if I were about to die. They had to give me a dose of Haldol at the emergency room to stop my epileptic episodes and agitation of bed side manner.

      For me it happens to me during the periods when I am not being a good Muslim. Like if I would live 3 months by doing the things I should be doing then I would not have them. And when I live a month in a state of spiritual weakness where I would commit some sins or shortcomings here and there then they attack. It feels like am being given a warning and that I should wake up . I really want to wake up , I hope I do before it is too late .

    Hey, I’m still not sure if If what happens to me is a panic attack. Every Year, once or twice, I would feel very sick but not out of no where It would like build up. This one time I was in class about to take a test and then I had a really really bad headache and I was so scared and worried that I would fail the test it when I got the test I couldn’t read the words, but I thought I was tearing up but when I scrubs my eyes there were dry and I still couldn’t read and my heart was pounding and I wasn’t sure if I should ask the teacher to go to the nurse or keep rubbing my eyes to see if I could read but I couldn’t so I asked and I went to the nurse and when she called my mom to pick me up I got cold and I started shaking a little and I got home went to sleep and woke up feeling normal and I was able to read again

      But there were also times that it was completely different than this and I thought they weren’t related. The other times I would feel chest pain and heart pain but I was confused on what was going on so i got my inhaler and used it and went to sleep and it was gone when I woke up

    For me , it just came out of nowehere today...heart beat out of control , absolute shortness off breath , but the more you breathe , the more your pulse increases and it feels like there's not gonna be a next breath at one point :( Hands going numb , different abnormalities , absolute hell :( :(
    Is this what a panic attack is , or am I having something different? Doctor told me that's exactly it and gave me a Diasepam shot to calm me down. The problems was I drank 3-4 cups of coffe today(and 0 yesterday) so that really built up and then finally unlocked a proper panic attack this time :( NO MORE COFFRE/COLA EVER. I will fall asleep on my desk if I need to , just never this again :( :(
    Basicly , I'm not gonna beat around the bush here , past stimulat abuse has made me more valnurable to all forms of stimulants.Nothing too out of control either , just like a dozen times in the past 6-7 years.. Last two times this happened were some many months ago(random drug accidents , no repeated usage , no nothing , previous ones more than 1 year ago , but never systematic). This time just a couple of double coffes sent me to the ER. I'm 24!! And my heart was ok , pulse ok , blood pressure ok , just brain chemicals making me feel like that was it...physicly. Also a repetative House Music Tune was stuck in my head and I just couldn't stop it and it was so scary :( :( In addition , I was writing a very complex programming solution WHILE listening to some hardcore techno.
    Now I'm ok , just thinking about quitting weed this time big time. Stopped cigarettes , alcohol - it's been years , just caffaine seems to be a very serious drug after a while(been pumping more since I quit cigarettes 4 months ago). NO MORE! My heart goes out to all the people who did none of the stupid things I did , but are still suffering with this condition!! :( :(

      Hey +betastate the caffeine was very likely a contributor as you mentioned there's a range in caffeine content. When first going through stress management programs, I cut out caffeine, chocolate, junk food, etc. It was extreme, but I was so freaked by the experiences that it led to a clean slate.
      It sounds like a panic attack. In terms of what you can do to calm down, there's a few keys. Diaphragm breathing will help, also lifestyle factors will contribute as well. I know many coders work late and spend a lot of time in front of computers. When I do this, I get a bit weird after too long, so force myself to take walking breaks, the fresh air is a nice reset.
      With falling asleep at the desk, you may want to try doing a yoga nidra relaxation. I do this daily, it's about 20 minutes, I lay of the floor and feel refreshed after doing it. Often I feel the pressure to "push through" work, but making the shift to yoga nidra reset, I do it about noon, has seen productivity increase. The track I listen to is: ua-cam.com/video/pfIikxpis9s/v-deo.html
      I appreciate you sharing your past, the good news is your past doesn't shape your future, I used to think it's like I was doomed to experience these panic attacks for the rest of my life, but with lifestyle changes and stress management tools, you will observe a nice change.
      The techno combo may be too much, test it out without caffeine and see. Otherwise, classical music like Mozart helps. I actually use a program called "Focus at will" it's a subscription service, where you pick from calming playlist genres, where you pick your mood and have found it good for work productivity.
      I'm with you on the weed as well. I get super sketchy on it and have cut it as it wasn't relaxing, restorative and yin yoga is my drug of choice for relaxation :)
      Hope this helps and if you have any specific questions, hit me up.

      Lucas Mattiello Well I quit coffe now. I did know I was sensitive to it but didn't stop on time.It's been a few weeks since I'm coffe-free , totally different story.
      I already quit drinking a few years ago , smoking a few months ago , now coffe. Quitting weed would not be humaine :D But I would love to naturally cut it down by a lifestyle shift , which is how anything happens really.
      I hope when I find a job soon I'll be all better , thanks a lot for your concern , rare to see a nice person on the internet nowadays :) :)

    I am only 12. I suffer from MAJOR anxiety/panic attacks. I had one on Thursday and right after fell asleep. I thought I was going to die. I pray to the lord to help me calm down. And it kinda works. But when i'm crying, hyperventilating, thought you will die, very tired, hopelessness, and that feeling that I don't wish upon anybody. its hard to pray sometimes. I have had maybe 13 or 14 panic attacks in the last 8 months. Its terrible. I do not wish it upon anyone.

I know im not going to die but still the fear of having another panick attack thats what scares me the most. Thank you for making these video's it really helps me alot at the moment.

      Thank you for your support Gnome2014. You have some good steps in place, to let wait until the sensations start to reduce. You're describing anticipatory anxiety, which is when you're living in fear of having the next panic attack, which often keeps you on alert mode and can lead to having another attack. When you're waiting for the panic attack to pass, you may want to focus on diaphragm breathing and this will help a lot before you have the attack (when you're feeling anxious).
      In your 8 years of struggling, what have you tried to help, has anything worked?

    When I am at school during assemblies the room is dark and loud (sometimes). I start to panic a lot. It gets to the point where I am shaking and can't stand up anymore almost passing out because I can't breath. I feels like I have elephants sitting on my chest. Is this a panic attack or am I just scared of crowds/assemblies??

    • @LucasMattiello
      @LucasMattiello  9 років тому

      Sounds like anxiety in that situation, which triggers your fight-flight response Johannah De Vries. This situation is common, similar to people that get anxiety/panic in crowded malls. Couple things you may want to do is:
      1. Reassure yourself that you're safe and while it's dark, you can still breathe.
      2. Practice diaphragm breathing (I have a video on that) which will keep the nerves down.
      This sounds like this particular situation is creating nerves and anxiety, the key here is to follow what I suggested and when you face the situation and are able to get small victories ex: stay in the assembly without leaving for 10 minutes, then sit through it and maintain your breathing, then you'll be able to sit there and be ok.
      Every time you face it and feel a little bit better, you regain control because anxiety is a feared, but unlikely outcome that your body is tricking you into thinking you're in danger, but sitting in an assembly, there's no danger present.
      Let me know how it goes.

    • @kojo123001
      @kojo123001 9 років тому

      I have used diaphragm breathing before. It helps sometimes but not all the time Mr. Stress Management. Why do bodies do it to themselves?? It makes me mad. :/ I wish it could just be something that could be gone by the press of a button or the swish of a magic wand.

    • @LucasMattiello
      @LucasMattiello  9 років тому

      Good to hear that you're using that technique and it helps Johannah De Vries. Increasing the number of tools available is most helpful, in that situation you Progressive Muscle Relaxation could also help.
      It's the fight-flight response, I agree that this can be frustrating, what happens is your body responds to a perceived danger/threat to your safety, this was helpful in our evolution to avoid being killed, but today, not needed nearly as much.
      Unfortunately there's no magic wand, but taking small steps towards your goal is what's needed. You may also want to review any other stressors that are happening before your assembly as it's often a compound effect and that could be helpful to reduce the panic attacks.

    Yesterday I had a panic attack in school. It just started out as people asking me if I was okay, everybody started staring at me. I started crying and then I couldn't control my breathing. So more people looked at me. I got sent into the hallway so I could calm down and one of my good friends came out. I had to sit down because I felt like I was going to faint. It took me an hour just to calm down. I'm kind of scared to go to school today. I feel like everyone is going to ask what happened. I've only had two other panic attacks before but they didn't last long.

    • @LucasMattiello
      @LucasMattiello  8 років тому

      +Carlita Cox Often being made the centre of attention only adds to the stress you're experiencing. Going back to school is important because you'll be able to face it again and see that you can be at school and not have a panic attack. The key will be to use Diaphragm breathing techniques to control your breathing and avoid the common thoughts of "seeking confirmation of panic attacks" which is when people are scared about possibly having a panic attack, so they constantly check their body looking for any sign that a panic attack is coming because when you do this, you'll be able to find some sign (faster heart beat, tense muscles, etc) and you will then fear a panic attack is coming, which often leads to having a panic attack.

    yeah, this sounds similar to my anxiety problems. I went out to eat before going to the movies a few months ago, and my hands started shaking, I had trouble eating(only managed by focusing on my food), my heart was pounding, my breathing was shallow trying to control it, and the people around were making so much noise it was overwhelming. The only reason I didn't rush out was not attracting attention. Also, is what happen to me actually a panic attack? people freaked me out doing nothing but talking and being around. Not knowing the source can leave you feeling helpless and lack of control, which often leaves people feeling frustrated, so tears are common. Do help you, I first need to know what are your current stressors? This will provide info on changes to make as people focus on the panic attack, but it's the stressors that were happening before that build up and contribute to the panic attack.
      Common stressors are: lack of sleep, poor diet, excess caffeine, junk food, lack of exercise, fear of future, etc.

      RawB0x Yes, that's what happens when your sympathetic nervous system is activated. It's known as the fight or flight response and your heart rate accelerates as a result. In these situations, knowing that it will slow down in time and using diaphragm breathing exercises will help.

Do breathing exercises before u go to the bed and as soon as you wake up. Also check your breathing...your belly is supposed to inflate like a balloon when you breath in, and deflate as you breath out. It worked for me, hope it works for you. Also don't sleep late at night, that will just increase your body's anxiety.

    I always seem to get panic attacks when I'm in school. I was verbally and physically bullied by a group of boys in my year / Grade.. Since then I've had the worst social anxiety.. I used to be so outgoing.. Now I'm worried to even go out with friends in fear of being replaced or ridiculed. I started to have panic attacks last year and I have been getting them quite frequently.. I can't control them at all! I can control my breathing but it's the shaking.. My whole body just starts to shake.. It's like I've gone to death valley then suddenly I'm in Antarctica. I get hot and cold rushes.. It's awful.. and the worst part. In my school we aren't allowed to leave lesson AT ALL. And if you do you have to either get a card signed by the teacher or be escorted by the teacher.. If your found without a card you get immediate detention.. So I'm like 😱 I usually put earphones in or doodle in the back of my book.. And my friends know that I get panic attacks.. They can't always help though.. they don't get the fact that telling me to "Calm Down and get over it" Does basically nothing..

      Randie Ashdohonk There's a number of factors besides breathing techniques that are helpful. I fond diet changes and yoga helpful, have you tried those?
