*This is awesome guys! I really didn't know that this car was so popular in Australia.* Here in the Netherlands and other countries in western Europe it's called the Opel Kadett, this is a generation C. My dad had loads of Kadett's, sedans, coupes, stations. They are indeed collector items right now, over here nice coupes go for €5K until €15k. Even Scotty Kilmer first car was a Buick Opel (American Gemini/kadett). A great engine swap would be a C20XE or C20LET GM/Opel engine. These are also called red tops and well-known for good performance and good gas mileage. They fit good in the engine bay of a Kadett C/Gemini and it's done before. So enough aftermarket stuff for it.
Ilias Lamari coupes go for that much? Here in Croatia you can find them for 500-1000€ and one in great shape for 1500€

My first car was a TD Gemini. Full strip down rebuild. Redirected wiring, moved the battery into the boot. Worked 1.6 with twin sides. Chrome everything. Full velour interior. Then I ran over a marque foundation plate left in a car park after an exhibition and that was the end of her. Really loved and miss the old girl. That was early 90s.
The missus looked at me like a weirdo when I started celebrating because someone on UA-cam is going to work on my favourite car.
My first car was a 76 Gemini coupe I bought for $900.

Awesome find guys! I just ordered the book also and can't wait to receive it, have a great Christmas and look forward to all the projects in the new year.
A 1982 Holden Gemini TF Banana yellow sedan was also my first car which i purchased for 200 dollars back in 2009. Getting big flashbacks thats forsure! Those little G1600 motors were so easy to learn on with having no experience with cars being 14 years old.
19:24 - That look is not because Moog cant believe what Marty is saying, they're worried how badly Alan will tear them a new one.
I can see the disappointment and suppressed anger on his face already.
This is amazing. I still have my grandmother's gemini from 1979. Its been in our family my whole life. When she passed away and i got my licence it was my first car. Spent alot of money doing it up. Unfortunately i got the wrong body place to fix her, instead of cutting out the rust spots they bogged it and the rust came back even worse. She is in a sad state now and not been touched for about 7yrs. This is my inspiration to fix her back up.
Please give that car the love it deserves. I love seeing any old nugget saved while they can be
Here in Brazil it's called Chevette and some people put the C20XE engine with a turbo and the gearbox is a Clark 260F.
That's so cool! There will always be a special place in our hearts for our FIRST CAR! At 17 years old, mine was a 1984 Toyota Celica. The last year of the rear wheel drive for that model and it had a 2.4L fuel injected 4 c

Good luck, love it!
These two are my fav car mental patients! What great chemistry they have and connection to the audience. They are a generation younger than I am so that makes it even more amazing. Being from the US these guys have introduced me to many cars that we "in the states'" have little or no knowledge of. I like their modus operandi of not being an endless pocket high-brow restoration mindset. I like their crazy ideas as cars, no matter how much potential and respect many place on them, get the "mad" treatment of sometimes absurd mods. Though I'm not a fan of 90's electronic music I am a big music fan and love these guys connection to the music used in their shows (& Moog's oft worn Metallica shirt)! In my opinion they began with a modest hobby and turned it into a world-wide internet juggernaut of an idea. Bravo Moog & Marty!
