Should doris be a nailed on starter at 8? I used to think so,but for a player some regard as world class he continually fails to have big games & against the biggest opponents
He's made two major errors at crucial moments in knockout games: the sloppy knock-on off kick off against NZ in the last 10mins of the WC quarterfinal and the needless and obvious penalty against Toulouse in the 2nd half of extra time in CC final.
Doris is still Irelands best back row if you ask me. That doesn't mean he's playing at world class level though. He was outperformed by his opposite number at the weekend.
VDF is overrated if you ask me. Yeah, he's got a great engine on him and can interlink well but he just doesn't provide enough physicality at the top level. There's a lot of hype around Baird but he tends to go missing in big games and doesn't seem to do enough grunt work. He's made some crucial errors too. Not gathering that crucial kick off the other day was one of them.
@@PB22559so we’re screwed is what your trying to say
I've been saying it for the past year, he'll be playing 7 at the next WC and you can put your house on it.
@@PB22559 I think Doris is going through a dip in form as most layers do. Give him time he will come out of it.
As for Baird, I do agree with your assessment. He doesn't play like the nasty physical blindside that Leinster and Ireland need. I'd say Ahern and Izzy will be pushing him out of contention for the 6 jersey in the future unless he makes massive improvements.
I find myself disagreeing with your VDF assessment though. It's very hard to win World Player of the Year and be overrated. As soon as he got on in the final against Toulouse he injected life into Leinster's attack with his physical carries up the guts and out wide. He is a very physical player with as you said a massive engine and great link playing which fundamentally is what the Irish attacking system demands from the loose forwards. He has it physically for the "top" level and his career proves as such for me.
In big games Doris goes missing . Timoney deserves a run as does Gav. Doris needs a rest and to come back improved
Coombs is the most physical Irish player and without Conan I don’t understand why he is not in there. Loughman at lose head is the only other one. We need to establish an additional loch, a fullback and an outside centre
Looks like fullback (Jimmy O’Brian) and blind side (Baird, Izuchuckwu, Prendergast) are focus areas. We will not learn much in the other areas. It looks like it’s a given for a 6/2
I just don't think he is dynamic enough, a real old school 8. And if he is there to be that power enforcer player I don't think he does that to a high level either. It's a tough one for coombes.
@FuturesTrader87, One word: Bullshit. Going back 3 years. Murray is in the usual bullshit mode. Central contracts is the actual problem. And it's going to Fu#k Irisha Rugby. It has already.
Yes he should be going to South Africa - he's a number 8, Doris isn't as good as last season & needs competition.
Well Ciaran Frawley, Sam Prendegaast , and Cian Healy are 3 who are not starting for their province and still get included in the squad. Being on the bench is not the reason that Coombes has not been picked.
Who knows better? Farrell or journalists? Who would you drop?
Yes, Munster players should be involved. It’s ridiculous the bias towards Leinster. They did fuck all again this year.
Coombes has been brilliant against the SA clubs including last year's URC final. Should be a shoe in at 8, with Doris losing form
Hodnett for seven the man knows what it takes to win in South Africa
Yes, short & simple - not enough dog in the Leinster boys who can’t deliver the winning, “killer blow” when it really counts.
Against NZ Kelleher failed to ground the ball something Herring had been doing very consistently.
Coombs is so reliable in this area also whereas Leinster backrow have failed to deliver from 5 yards out when it really counted [over & over sadly].
After this test we need to start building for the next World Cup and start blooding players like the prendergasts Coombes ahern osborne hodnett Doak o toole Timoney Izuchukwu 6 of irelands regular starters will be over 34😓 we need to start building I won’t last another WC blow off with SA fans in my ear
Welsh and English qualified, he'll be gone soon.... like so many of our great players.
"He has played all across the back-row." There's only one player in the back row!
There are three players in the back row! Both flankers and the 8.
@@paul_gordon The scrum packs down 3-4-1. The only person in the back row is the No.8. The flankers are in the second row row beside the locks. In the old 3-2-3 scrum there were three players in the back row.
I'll bet he'll go to France.
