    The industry standard for guitar amps is a Shure 57.. I purchased this mic for that reason in hopes it would hold up to the 57.. honestly it appears to be built tougher??? I use mine a lot and it seems to really hold up to the pressure of a loud amp.. I also compared it to a 58 for vocals. It was indeed brighter but unbelievably clear and crisp.. it’s a winner as long as it holds up and doesn’t crap the bed lol.. so far I’m happy! Thanks for the review !

    At an Amazon returns resale place in North Carolina called Bin 5, I purchased a Fifine K669 side address condenser USB mic for $6. It looks and feels the same as this one, and it is better than it should be for the price. As another commentor mentioned, it is great for Zoom meetings as you can plug it right into your laptop, and of course sounds MUCH BETTER than the laptop built-in mic. It is also much easier than using my H4n Pro as an interface in order to use my shotgun mic for meetings. Just plug the Fifine into the USB port and go. You also get decent proximity effect with the K669 condenser. I am shocked at how decent this mic is, being from China and being only about $35 USD. I would recommend it for anyone starting a podcast, or even UA-cam videos, and don't have much money for equipment. I have a Sennheiser MK4 for voice over work, and if the mic crapped out on me I believe the Fifine could save the day, if on a tight schedule, and with some tweaking in post.
    Side-note.....my wife is the one who found the mic in a bin and showed it to me. I saw the name and the funky mauve color and thought "yeah....no." But then I picked up the mic in my hand and was shocked at how much it weighed and how solid it felt. I figured for $6 I would take a gamble on it, and I am very happy I did.
    Thank you for the entertaining and well demonstrated review, as usual.

      Wow. That’s crazy! I don’t doubt it, man. They’re really great for the price. Even the XLR condenser that was shipped to me sounded way better than it had any right to. But it had a grounding issue that happened during shipping. They’re sending me a replacement. I’ll be reviewing that one coming up.
      Thanks for the great comment and for watching!

    I feel it my duty to mention the XM8500 - someone always does. I've been using several (with a couple of handheld condensers) to record audio drama and they easily hold their own. The difference between the actors' voices masks the difference between the mics - I'm very pleased with the little behringers.
    Love your videos, very entertaining. I don't need another microphone, but I do find these comparisons interesting and I appreciate your honesty. Your description of the sound matches what I'm hearing and that's not always the case when I listen to other channels. ;-)

      I've heard from quite a few people that the newer models of the Amazon Basics Dynamic Vocal Microphone - Cardioid is better, as in less grill noise and lower noise than the xm8500. I've not tested this myself, but I may look into it soon

      @@TheRecordist my friend has one, he sent me audio of his amazon basics and his xm8500 and I had to pick which one I liked better blind. I picked the amazon basics. it had a lower noise floor, and a cleaner tone overall. Although the xm8500 was a little brighter, that was also because the self noise blending in with the signal. I think both mics are great though, considering they're both $25-30.
      Just make sure to get the Cardioid Amazon Basics dynamic mic, not the Supercardioid

    For the money, it sounds alright. If it were USB it'd be a good fit for Zoom calls etc. The fact that it's an XLR mic kind of makes it a hard sell. I'd probably just get an XM8500 if I was going XLR on a budget.

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  11 місяців тому

      Yes. It’s not bad. But I agree. A USB option would be best for something like this. Not many people who have interfaces or recorders would be buying a mic this cheap anyway.

      Hahahaha. The Q2U-while I’ve heard of it-I’ve never tried. A lot of people love it though. The Fifine is an XLR mic so one would need an interface or recorder to operate it. On the other hand the Q2U is a USB mic so it’s basically plug and play. Hmm. I guess that would be up to you!
