The best part of the story is the fact that for the longest time you are led to believe that Dog is Wolverine. Dog is the focus of the cover, Dog as a kid and teenager is a splitting image of adult wolverine, Logan is Dog's last name, he's a trouble maker, and the fact that Rose mentions in her dairy that she never found out Dog's real name. As that could be a cop out of never revealing Wolverine's real first name. It's only until James stabs Logan with his bone claws that you relies it's him.
I hate it when he spoiled it right away that james is wolverine he should have just started with "there are 3 children and one of them looks like logan we all know today"
I never thought Dog was Wolverine, but that’s cus I had my brain turned off. Also, i first saw this story through the marvel knights motion comic animation, so idk if they left out more details than the comic version
Alright, if you're going to join the X-Men, you need to know at least 2 things: Do not confuse Wolverine with emotional conflict and do not embarrass Colossus. Because if you do, Colossus is going to crash through the nearest wall, and Wolverine will escape through the hole, shirtless, into the wilderness to find a random pack of wolves to run with.
I've just about watched every episode of back issues and all of your specials. I enjoy you guys a lot. Some of made me laugh when I was having a rough time so thank you
What are ya talkin' about Sal, Wolverine fought in Civil War, he was anti-registration! Granted he was off hunting Nitro most the time, but he was there. [End Sarcasm] Great Episode.
I was in high school (11th grade?) when this came out. It was quite the event. All my friends were talking about it, I borrowed a copy, etc. It felt like everyone loved it. The only part I missed was that dog was NOT sabertooth. Like, until I saw this video I legitimately thought that, it just made sense--rivalry and such. So with that revelation in mind, I still like the story, but I think that part needed to be in there. To explain where their ancient animosity stemmed from.
I still remember the anticipation of picking up each issue and getting completely consumed by the story. It's one of my favorite origin stories and Marvel mini-story (also AoA). The way the art, characters, and stories were exhibited , just something you can't describe unless you experienced it during those 6 months. It really sticks with me, just amazing.
I got to read this in high school as an class project, like the whole class read it so that was cool. I did that around the same time the movie came out maybe like a month before. So this was my first comic/graphic novel.
Another great episode guys you have knocked it out if park and you have got me buying different stories now so I've spent a lot money but it's all been worth it
Happy new year guys!! Right when I saw this in my feed it put a smile on my face. I also want to recommend doing blackest night for one of the upcoming back issues
Happy Kwanza Sal, Ethan, and Ben! I've been marathoning Back Issues over the weekend. This show is so amazing wonderful in concept and execution. Got linked from Marvel Explained and liked Sal's input the most on the weekly pull videos. This channel is a jewel and completely underviewed. I will be "liking" all your videos so please don't think I am so crazy Facebook stalker. Just hope it helps and I appreciate all of your time for our entertainment. Keep it up. Have a great 2015. P.S. Is the guy in the middle wearing eye shadow?
It's one of my favorite comics ever. I think it's a perfect hero tragedy. I just would like to know what story where you talking about when you mentioned his brother's death appearing in another comic?
Wolverine origins, and the Xmas hats origins at the same time, and ethan took ben's jindarr! I guess Ben is now sobbing in a foetal position and softly singing "time after time" to himself
This comic came out here in Mexico years after his real publication, so I read it "when it came out". I love how dark is this book but also plays really well with the story of Logan. Great video and HAPPY NEW YEAR! By the way what about this for the next time you guys play Cards againts humanity: "I will hunt him till the ends of the world like a _________"
Happy New Year. As an older reader I loved this origin story because it showed us a lot of the things and people that shaped Wolverine....not to mention why he was so hung up on Jean Grey. The only thing that was missing was the Cyclops representative to tell him he was going about things the wrong way.
40:42 Technically he FIGHTED IN THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR, along with his mate Judd where he met Hemingway and George Orwell (when he was still a war corresposal).
When I first read Wolverine Origin, I noticed that Logan had a picture of James on a desk. So I thought he knew he was his father. Also am I the only one who thought that Dog looked a lot like James' father when they show him as an adult?
Glad you guys did this. Now for the Highlights: So...Sal. You have the Spider-man skully. I bought the Venom skully at Funny Books last week. Ha! - 1:04 That look of 'Uh-oh', you getting there. - 6:37 *Laugh out load* -11:19 , 33:00 - 33:05 , 33:39 I still don't get why Grandpa Howlett had claws if Thomas Logan was his 'Biological father'. If I remember correctly, grandpa said the claws is a genetic condition in the family.
happy holidays guy what a great first backissues to kick off the year, i was wondering if you guy would be doing WOLVERINE: ORIGIN 2, i have never read it but havee seen it in my local comicbook store, thanks alot
ow that sure be really cool im super new to coimcs lol and u have recommend me so which had made me fall in love with comics really you guys are the reason i read comics lol and wolverine: the end is a book i really want to read and im glad you guy are going to do it, keep up the great work guy :)
I remember this book and I like it but after reading it, it made me want more. It felt like it was just a teaser of his origin for me and I wanted more of his story.
Happy New Year Guys. Watching this episode was like having the trippiest flashback ever. Except I had to explain the story issue by issue as they came out, rather than the entire thing from a trade, It didn't help that every five minutes I had to go and pull out a 20 year old comic to explain a point, or how this story differed from the so called canon and it really doesn't matter, cause it going to change. But it was fun, two minutes of explanation, five minutes of laughing.
whats the comic your talking about in the beginning you said you were going to do? about his brother also being a mutant and how it elaborates on certain things?
I was absolutely in love with this when I first read it, the emotional punch was so real, i didn't think I wolverine story could move me like that and while wolverine lost his memories these memories still formed who he becomes which was really well done. I knew at the time marvel wrote this so Hollywood wouldn't mess it up and I'm glad marvel was pushed to write this, because if not the fox version that they would of made would be considered the definitive version and I promise it would of sucked. A part of me hopes Marvel makes this movie at some point.
Yup, I'm a little late on this, but great episode! Thanks guys! Poor Rose. She must have been hit in the subclavian artery (under the collarbone). I can't see her dying so quickly otherwise... because comics are always 100% realistic. LOL
Great episode, guys. By the way, which is the story that focuses on what Ben asked about James' (Wolverine's) deceased brother? (mentioned at the 14 minute mark)
That's so weird, I could swear the book came out first, long before the movie. And I thought it came out because of House of M, which in turn was caused by Avengers Disassembled.
I sat down in Barnes and Noble and read the whole thing. It wasn't enough. I felt like it was a little overdone. I knew Rose would die and I hated that Dog was a Sabertooth analogue. He either should have been Sabertooth or just not looked like him. Rose should have left with Smitty and let that be that. If that happened, it would explain why Wolverine can't let Jean go without being cliche. "He let her leave through inaction the first time" kind of thing. And Logan gets his nickname Wolverine from the mining people because of his skills in digging. Fuck that. He shouldn't have gotten that as a name until Weapon X.
I still have my Origin #1 in a slip with backing board hidden away somewhere (with the $2.99, in pen, on the Marvel logo, CURSE YOU NEWSAGENT!). I looooved it when I first read it. But it's been so long since I read it, that only with watching this do I now get the whole dark mirror of his new life thing. It's even sadder now.
I couldn't tell you what I thought when it came out because it was almost impossible to find when it came out. If i remember correctly they sold out of a few printings. I learned the basics of the story but I didn't get to read it till much later.
I do lurv me some of the Marvel origin books, like Magento Testament, Wolverine Origins, and that book about the Red Skulls childhood and how he met the Fuhrer
Lol! Great episode guys. Let me ask you guys a question. If you had the chance to take one character from DC and give it to Marvel (and vise-versa) who would they be and why?
I'm glad that regardless of sense they stuck with _"Snikt"_ for the claws... Smooth bones sliding out of soft skin while the wounds seal rapidly would realistically elicit something more like _"Fart"_ and it would be terrible.
I didn't like this book when it came out. I liked the fact that Wolverine had no "origin" for like the past 30+yrs of Marvel history at the time. His past was kinda there if u glued the pieces together, but nothing official either. I think revealing the origin took away something from the myth that is wolverine or for me anyway he wasnt as badass anymore, lol. Also because at the time of Origins release it was kind of a surprise, came from left field feeling. Marvel actually did it and it was done.I think it was years later that he remembered his past. But i had quit comics in the 2000's until recently. Love your videos guys.
Logan was not james aka wolverine father. Read the comic orgin lissue 3 and look at old man howlett hand closely where he tells them to leave and and never come back. Old man howlett has 3 bone claws come out of his hand.
Kwanzaa is the 26 through the first. The first is like the best day to celebrate because usually people have food and big events with African drumming and Dancing. Also Wolverine origins the game was suppose to be a separate game but was made into a movie game. So that's why its good.
I think it's funny how people (myself included) will accept the Wolverine origin, but I personally can't accept the Red Hood origin for Joker. He just seems like a WAY bigger character than any origin. Nothing will be good enough other than saying he's evil incarnate.
The best part of the story is the fact that for the longest time you are led to believe that Dog is Wolverine. I never thought Dog was Wolverine, but that’s cus I had my brain turned off. Also, i first saw this story through the marvel knights motion comic animation, so idk if they left out more details than the comic version
19:17 Ethan: That's kind of a lame origin for the name Logan.
Me, watching Solo: *sweats profusely*
Alright, if you're going to join the X-Men, you need to know at least 2 things: Do not confuse Wolverine with emotional conflict and do not embarrass Colossus. Because if you do, Colossus is going to crash through the nearest wall, and Wolverine will escape through the hole, shirtless, into the wilderness to find a random pack of wolves to run with.
Like a Silver Koolaid man and his pet wolfman.
This was definitely enough for me. Easily one of my favorite Wolverine stories.
[End Sarcasm]
Great Episode.
In ultimate wolverine VS Hulk Logan's spirit animal is a Panda and he argues with the panda that his spirit animal should be a wolverine
Didn't he fight the Panda and lose?
yep
Harsh Bawaskar I literally just lol'd. Thank you for that.
I really hope this is true
I was in high school (11th grade?) when this came out. It was quite the event. All my friends were talking about it, I borrowed a copy, etc. It felt like everyone loved it. Ben: ...She still has two boys that she's need to take care o-..
Sal: Not anymore!
xD
"Is he gonna kill his dad?" *Sal looks at Ethan*
I got to read this in high school as an class project, like the whole class read it so that was cool. I did that around the same time the movie came out maybe like a month before. So this was my first comic/graphic novel.
That's really cool!
This is pobably my absolute favourite episode ever. the whole hunt him down till the ends of the earth was hilarious. Love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best at what you do. Seriously more riff of movies, especially super hero movies, please.
Will do!
Haha. Another fun, informative back issues! Happy new year!
This is awesome! The first thing I do in 2015 is watch my favourite youtube show. Happy new year guys!
Thanks! Happy New Year!
TV Little House Comics Happy New Year
I loved this story. Weapon X works well as a follow-up.
Jake Tibbs or wolverine origins from the origins run with the similar name
Another great episode guys you have knocked it out if park and you have got me buying different stories now so I've spent a lot money but it's all been worth it
Thank you! Sorry about your wallet.
That zoom in and smile xD Ethan called it
Happy new year guys!! Right when I saw this in my feed it put a smile on my face. I also want to recommend doing blackest night for one of the upcoming back issues
It's happening!
Great episode as usual guys!
lol I love your username
Happy New Years to the best channel on UA-cam !!!!!!
Thanks and you too!
This is a really good example of how comics can be literature.
ComicPOP! This is a great book, and also one of your funniest reviews. Great job guys!
Thanks so much for watching, Jason! We really, truly appreciate it.
That sounds like a really great story. I may have to add that to my trade wishlist.
It's one of my favorite comics ever. I think it's a perfect hero tragedy. I just would like to know what story where you talking about when you mentioned his brother's death appearing in another comic?
+F Britannia Wolverine: The End. We did it a year later, maybe?
ComicPOP oh, perfect, thank you. I'll watch it :)
By the way what about this for the next time you guys play Cards againts humanity:
"I will hunt him till the ends of the world like a _________"
"good ol' jimmy" - Ben talking about Logan's real name. i love it, thas his new nickname
I would love to watch this show for the rest of my life.😭
13:43 I died during that part 😂😂😂😂
so at what point in this book does william stryker shoot logan with an adamantium bullet?
...I see what you did there.
Happy New Year! Best of luck and more subscribers in 2015.
Happy New Year. As an older reader I loved this origin story because it showed us a lot of the things and people that shaped Wolverine....not to mention why he was so hung up on Jean Grey. The only thing that was missing was the Cyclops representative to tell him he was going about things the wrong way.
New Year, New Back Issues. Sounds good to me
40:42 Technically he FIGHTED IN THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR, along with his mate Judd where he met Hemingway and George Orwell (when he was still a war corresposal).
The mystery was always better than that origin to me.
When I first read Wolverine Origin, I noticed that Logan had a picture of James on a desk. So I thought he knew he was his father. Also am I the only one who thought that Dog looked a lot like James' father when they show him as an adult?
Lol @ the look Sal gives when Ethan asks him “does he kill his dad?”
hey guys! I wanted to ask when are you gonna do the other part that explains everything?
I liked the western art style of the book, I definitely will draw that cover later.
Glad you guys did this.
Now for the Highlights:
So...Sal. You have the Spider-man skully. I bought the Venom skully at Funny Books last week. Ha! - 1:04
That look of 'Uh-oh', you getting there. - 6:37
*Laugh out load* -11:19 , 33:00 - 33:05 , 33:39
I still don't get why Grandpa Howlett had claws if Thomas Logan was his 'Biological father'. If I remember correctly, grandpa said the claws is a genetic condition in the family.
I just heard sal on the Spider-Man noir from comicstorian, that was hilarious 😂
Thanks Tremayne!
happy holidays guy what a great first backissues to kick off the year, i was wondering if you guy would be doing WOLVERINE: ORIGIN 2, i have never read it but havee seen it in my local comicbook store, thanks alot
Thanks, Joe! I never read Origin 2. We'll do Wolverine: The End, though.
ow that sure be really cool im super new to coimcs lol and u have recommend me so which had made me fall in love with comics really you guys are the reason i read comics lol and wolverine: the end is a book i really want to read and im glad you guy are going to do it, keep up the great work guy :)
I remember this book and I like it but after reading it, it made me want more. It felt like it was just a teaser of his origin for me and I wanted more of his story.
My head canon is that Dog is Sabertooth’s Dad
I like that! It definitely works better if Dog is Sabertooth but that works too
I totally just found out NOW that Kwanzaa is usually between Xmas & New Years (12/26-01/01). May be a LITTLE late, but knowing is half the battle!!
I just HAD to know after watching this for like the 5th time!
Man dog is a dog for rose! Ps I love your channel, I can't get enough of your videos! #gettingphysicalwithethan
Thanks, Cain!
Happy New Year Guys. Watching this episode was like having the trippiest flashback ever.
Except I had to explain the story issue by issue as they came out, rather than the entire thing from a trade, It didn't help that every five minutes I had to go and pull out

Happy New Year!
whats the comic your talking about in the beginning you said you were going to do? about his brother also being a mutant and how it elaborates on certain things?
I know I might be late but the grandfather retracts his claws in one panel
Arteries. Ethan giving a new definition to #gettingphysicalwithethan
I was absolutely in love with this when I first read it, the emotional punch was so real, i didn't think I wolverine story could move me like that and while wolverine lost his memories these memories still formed who he becomes which was really well done.

When are you going to do the other story you teased in this, that answers the question of Wolverines brother?
Inigo Montoya I'm surprised you're so interested since, according to you, we're "incredibly annoying."
ComicPOP whoa wait what? lol what happened here?
ComicPOP how did you remember that Inigo said that? XD
Great episode, guys. By the way, which is the story that focuses on what Ben asked about James' (Wolverine's) deceased brother? (mentioned at the 14 minute mark)
Wolverine, friendzoned since before he even had a memory.
Yup
I love this story. Period. Hats off to Paul Jenkins and Andy Kubert 👏
Did we ever get that follow up story to this? What is the name of that story that follows this one they were talking about ?
That's so weird, I could swear the book came out first, long before the movie. And I thought it came out because of House of M, which in turn was caused by Avengers Disassembled.
I sat down in Barnes and Noble and read the whole thing. It wasn't enough. I felt like it was a little overdone. I knew Rose would die and I hated that Dog was a Sabertooth analogue. Allen Babylon ...This is not a library
The part of the story that fucked with me the most is the fact that the old man had claws to it don't make no sense
Oh, my god! I love that Simpsons reference. "Well, are you going to find him? Or find him and kill him?"
I loved this when it came out
it would have ben cool if they more stories about life like the wars he fought in and his friendships
Just read this amazing book!
I couldn't tell you what I thought when it came out because it was almost impossible to find when it came out. If i remember correctly they sold out of a few printings. I learned the basics of the story but I didn't get to read it till much later.
I do lurv me some of the Marvel origin books, like Magento Testament, Wolverine Origins, and that book about the Red Skulls childhood and how he met the Fuhrer
would have thought the wolverine name came about because he was actually short, and Wolverines are vicious but small
I remember that game! It was great!
This story made me basically drop Marvel. But your taking the piss out of the "friend zone" made me love this video!
In the town rose and James were known as cousins so that's a big reason he couldn't pronounce his love for her.
This book was great.
If only the movie had used it as the script.
Hey, do you guys think you could do a back issue of Spider-Man : Reign please? Love the show!
We can definitely do that. But if you like it, you might not like the episode...
Haha no it'd be great to hear your guys' opinion on this! That's why I love the show.
javierpena52 Then it will happen. ;)
First video of 2015!
What happened to you guys' DC Movie video, by the way? I saw it in my sub box but never got a chance to watch it... :(
I had to delay it, really sorry about that! Should be there soon!
TV Little House Comics Hey, I don't really mind. At least it's not removed permanently. Keep up the awesome work, guys!
Damn this story is heartbreaking
This video is out of continuity. Can't wait for the ret-con.
Is Origin 2 any good? Do they ever reference Rose or Dog ever again in any comics?
To answer your first question, I haven't read it. However, they both Dog and Rose have come up a few times since then.
Happy New Year guys. I'll have to watch this tomorrow after some sleep and less shots. :]
What is the story you said you would do that explained the older brother who died?
06pyroman Wolverine: The End
ComicPOP! Thank you. Love your channel and all the people in it. It's just amazing!
06pyroman Thank you!
Have you guys ever thought of discussing the animated universe from both Marvel and DC?
Totally!
TV Little House Comics Awesome, looking forward to it. You guys do a good job, keep up the good work!
Logan was not james aka wolverine father. Read the comic orgin lissue 3 and look at old man howlett hand closely where he tells them to leave and and never come back. Old man howlett has 3 bone claws come out of his hand.
6:36 best part lol
I want a schmidy series were he's a boxer beating the shit out of people like a gentleman
Happy new year guys hope the best of luck in 2015.
Ditto, man!
When will you do World War Hulk? ;)
I think the scar is supposed to be a wound from the dead son.
Ethan is an animal hipster. Happy New Year!
Oh he is.
Dog not being Saberthoot was a miss oportunity
I'm totally gonna say I'll hunt milk like a dog.
IF ANYONE DISLIKES THIS VIDEO THEY SHALL FACE THE WRATH OF MY FEAR OF MY BONE CLAWS AND WOLF BUDDIES!!
I hear what you're saying, but don't forget the Red Hood origin has been there since the 40's or 50's. Insane, right?
I know! So weird. But I actively reject any definitive origin for Joker. Just a strange rule for my own personal head cannon.
Will Hensley I can totally agree with this, he's so much more effective if we don't know anything about his life aside from him as The Joker
Ben Baragona Well, to be fair, we don't really know anything about his life as Red Hood other than the fact that he was some guy...
Ok, so James and Dog are fighting, Rose somehow gets in the way and dies. Then what happens to Dog..? No explanation..?
That's right. He eventually shows back up later, but yeah that's how it ends.
Happy new year from the clown!
You too, Chubo!
