Forever Young by Alphaville is about the Cold War, primarily about the Cold War in the 1980's. It is about living with and growing up with the possibility of nuclear annihilation at any moment. “Let's dance in style, let's dance for awhile. Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies.

For context, the eighties were filled with fear of nuclear war and economic strife. Many songs from that decade spoke on one or both of these topics. For poops and giggles, try Roxy Music's "More Than This"

You are one of the best reactors. You actually react and not comment during a song. That's the way it should be done. Look up Karise Eden she has a very unique voice. I personally love her but she might not be everyone's cup of tea. Any video where she has red hair would work.

I see our existence on Earth as purgitorial...all the trials and tribulations bringing each of us to a point of saying " Am I going to make peace with everyone and everything or am I going to prove myself to be unworthy of moving on?"...not having life forever as we know it but something better ...more rewarding..
a relationship more complete and satisfying with all we've decided to love despite what we perceive as imperfections.

It's ironic that you mentioned possibly living forever! There is this theory called eternal recurrence, which was proposed by Nietzsche! It's basically an idea that entails people living the same life over and over for an eternity! Not exactly the same as living forever, but still just as ominous, creepy and frightening! Just imagining that concept more than blows my mind! Pretty existential I guess! Bye whoever's out there!

You described the plot of Highlander. PS If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbel is a great song along the same lines as your thoughts.

Wolverine & Sabertooth also lived for hundreds of years, and saw loved ones die, and went through many wars.

I love this song but there is a "Dance version" which you can find on UA-cam which is much faster paced and IMO, the better version of the 2. Used to dance to that one way back in the 80s....

Classic 80's song the year I graduated from college. You are right we would get bored after 200 years, maybe less. After you learn all you can and enjoy life, you would want to move on to a new experience, a new world, which fortunately happens automatically.

Hi Angela 😊 Great reaction to Alphaville's Forever Young 😊👍 Your discussion on living forever is a very philosophical one and I really enjoyed your concept of thinking in today's terms. True enough, we enter this world either a 3rd generation or a 4th generation and see one by one those around when we were born pass away. We are soon the first generation and if we have children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren they are the second, third and fourth generation. This is looking at things in a singular way on the Earth's plane as you say. Spiritually speaking, I believe the portal is entering into eternity. Have a great day and bye for now 😊👍🙏💐❤️💪🕯️🤲

When Angela was talking about not wanting to live forever on this earth and watching your loved ones pass away. It reminded me of the movie Highlander

Nostalgic and melancholy is correct. I remember hearing this as a teenager and feeling the vibrance of youth. I look back now at 58 have witnessed the decline and passing of elder loved ones and am starting to feel the physical pains of getting older. Cherish this flash of time we spend here.
