The darkness around Rand’s weaves when he channeled doesn’t mean he can’t be the Dragon. All men who channel draw from the same source, Saidin, so the corruption will affect Rand just like it affects all male channelers.
His weaves are just not as dark yet because he hasn't channeled much and the corruption hasn't set in. Logain had been doing it for a long time, so his weaves were pretty dark.
@@jmhaces That's not how it works. Saidin is corrupted, period. The taint builds up in the (mind of the) individual, not on their weaves, which are as equally corrupted as anyone else's drawing from saidin.

Sadly the Dragon is not immune to the corruption, which is also why Rand was so in denial the whole time and couldn't connect the pieces. He was on edge from the start too due to him listening to Tam's fever dream which revealed he wasn't his real father, and Loial later pointing out he looked like an Aiel didn't help.
No spoilers, just background and a couple answers to your questions. There were many kingdoms that were fighting the Aiel at the time of Rand's birth. The particular army Tam was serving in was the army of Illian (9 bees is their sigil). They were after one particular king who had killed a sacred tree. The male half of the One Power is tainted, corrupted by the Dark One. All men who channel are channeling the same thing so they would look alike. Mat never channelled. Perrin isn't channelling. And Min's viewings are never wrong.
"And Min's viewings are never wrong." The ones she is certain about, when she just "knows" instinctively, are never wrong. She has many viewings that are vague or that could go several ways.
Watch the revealed channeling scenes of Rand closely again: You see the black taint swirling over the white weaves as previously with Logain, which happens to all channeling men due to the corruption of the male half (saidin) of the One Power by the Dark One. So Rand, even though he has now been revealed as the Dragon Reborn, is still afflicted by the taint and its associated onset of madness (his previous, at times erratic behavior might be symptoms already). We shall see how quickly this affliction will progress and what the future might hold in store to possibly overcome it, or not. :)
Welcome to the WoT fandom! Where you buy all the thumbtacks at the local stores, notecards, yarn and entirely cover one wall with corkboard just to figure out answers to all the questions that reading the books leaves you with. 😂
Imo Moraine has said she would kill the Dragon before letting him join the dark one. If Mat was the Dragon, the Red would gentle him removing any chance of his coming into power. However, if he is just a boy they might just take him to the tower and keep him there till they are certain. This would make it easier to find him. So contacting the Red Adja is the best option for containing Mat. Again, just my opinion. Tam Al'thor was a member of the Companions of Illian. This is in the trivia in the x-ray area by the bonus content. The trivia is there to help non book readers with background stuff like why the Aiel were there. I highly suggest it. It's not spoilers just information that will help you with most of your confusion. 🙂
I also think it's a way of throwing Liandrin off the trail as well, like throwing a bone to a guard dog so you can sneak past. If she thinks she's "got" a piece of Moiraine's plot, she'll hopefully focus on Mat and not what's going on in Fal Dara. Also, it's a calculated risk : If Mat's a channeler, they'll gentle him and his "inherent darkness" won't feed his destruction. If he's NOT a channeler, he's safe and contained and they know exactly where he is - captured by the Red Ajah. It's a super sensible move all around.
Spoiler I think it's also a misdirection for us. What if the message is that Moiraine suspects there are more women and girls in the Two Rivers who can channel? Mat can tell them about his sisters, and this would be a way both to get help for them, protect Mat (and keep him from wandering off), and misdirect the Reds.
I figured that she might have sent reds after him becouse they are good at finding men, and while i dont think she expected him to be the dragon (as Mat is very often underestimated, which was a plot point of this episode as well), she still considered him important enough. Only group that could find him as well was blue ajah, with their spy networks, but among blues Mat could tell them some important stuff that he doesnt know is Moiraine's secret, as he could assume it common knowledge between her "friends", while with reds she can be sure he wont speak a word.
I keep saying this - I love your reactions. I love how into it you get. I love how flustered you get from being overwhelmed. It's awesome. I'm impressed by how much you're picking up. You picked up on something in this that really surprised me.

”All I see is pain, all I feel is pain.” Welcome to the Wheel of Time, bro. More of that coming. Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots more. Yeah, did I day LOTS?
i love watching your reactions. it makes me rethink the episodes entirely and I've even rewatched them again directly because of these videos. (count me as one of the ppl totally oblivious to Perrin's feelings until now lol).
I have my own theory about the message Moiraine sent about Mat. We don't hear the whole message! I think it's a misdirection both for us and for the Red Ajah.
Really enjoyed the reaction and your WoT theories! Super impressed you immediately recognized the heron marked sword and made that connection. Can’t wait for episode 8!
Matt stayed because the actor playing him, Barney Harris, broke contract and left the show. I don’t want to speculate on someone but assume he’s going through a tough time so hopefully he’s doing well. The writers then had to come up with changing the show for final 2 episodes so that must have been a nightmare for the show
My theory on how they can explain the character change is the Reds will try to gentle him, but because he can't touch the one power it changes him physically.
@@Azfa_ I hope they really don't address it, they would have to reintroduce him to every character he already met. Better just have someone call him by name the first time Donal appears and leave it at that.

The serpent eating its tail is an ancient symbol for eternity or infinity and was often used to represent the cyclical nature of time. The Greeks called it the Ouroboros.

"All I hear is pain. All I see is pain." Welcome to the Wheel Of Time. 'Cause that's what it gives those who live there. Along with brief moments of joy, wonder, awe and love. Keyword #brief.
The nine bees is the crest of Illian. Not really a spoiler since you can find it in the bonus features of this episode, but the battle at the beginning is called the Battle of the Shining Walls or, the Blood Snow. Many nations fought against the Aiel there, Illian was only one of them. Tam, Rand's dad joined the army of Illian when he was young and seeking adventure.
Conclude in one episode? We're not even to the end of the first *book*. There are fourteen brick-like books in the series plus a prequel. The whole story is fricking HUGE, and they're cutting and streamlining a lot. Oh, and you got it easy on Lan and Nynaeve getting together ... it took seven whole books and a lot more story churn before they got together.
The 9 bees are the emblem for the Illian military. It's a country far to the south, but the battle "the blood snow" was basically the Aiel against everyone and happened further North, near/ around Tar Valon.
The Dragon is born on the slopes of Dragon Mount by one of the Aiel who is not one of the Aiel raised by one of the Old Blood, part of the Prophecy of the Dragon, yes, he is
That was a unnecessary book spoiler to just point out without warning. What if the show was keeping that for the last episode and the final ultimate confirmation?
So, there's a bounty on crows, ravens etc. in the borderlands. They can be used as spies by the myrddraal. So seeing the Black hawk made out of their feathers on the king's back was pretty cool as a fan.
The darkness on the male half of the power effects The Dragon as much as any other man that can channel. That's why the world is terrified of him, because he's destined to go absolutely insane while also being the most powerful channeler alive. Basically a psychotic person with the nuclear launch codes.
Apparently in the books Rand is the Dragon Reborn (don't at me as I don't know the books but from WOT history videos he is). I freaking called it though so it made me so happy to be right! lol
That Aiel fight was pretty dead on how I pictured them fighting in my head. Imagine the cultural bastard love child of Vikings, 1st Nations people, and Ninjas... then give them redbull.
That whistling is Padan Fain. If you go back and watch other episodes, you can hear him in the background sometimes! Dai'shain is an honorific, not a name. His full name is al'Lan Mandragoran. "I hope he doesn't make a silly decision" is a statement you'll say, over and over through this series, lmao. The darkness around his weaves is intentional. ALL of the male half of the Power is corrupted. Even for the Dragon Reborn. It's quite a problem, if you think about it. He's supposed to save or destroy the world, and has to contend with the looming threat of madness from the corruption.

He was on edge from the start too due to him listening to Tam's fever dream which revealed he wasn't his real father, and Loial later pointing out he looked like an Aiel didn't help.
I didn't read the books but I love the cinematography and the directing. The actors are so believable. I love this show.
Let's go! Just finished comic's review and yours popped up. Let's go
The Rain in Spain stays mainly on Padan Fain.
Let's blame the Maine on Padan Fain.
"And Min's viewings are never wrong."
The ones she is certain about, when she just "knows" instinctively, are never wrong. She has many viewings that are vague or that could go several ways.
@@Jay-vp3kk Yes, you are correct. She also said these viewings were very clear.
@@bahice Yeah, I just wanted to clarify for anyone new who may be reading that not everything she sees is absolutely guaranteed.
I'm so glad that I'm doing the audiobook versions! So much easier to go back a couple chapters if I've missed something! 😆
Spoiler
I think it's also a misdirection for us.
I love that at the end you sound like so many of us book theorist trying to cope, back between book releases.
Love your reactions !! You are asking the right questions...!! and realising that you don't have the missing information ! You are awesome !!
Thank you so much!
You are my favorite non book reader wot content creator! Thank you.
Thank you so much that means a lot to me
Great reactions! So much fun to watch.
The One Power is corrupted for all men, even the Dragon.
The Aiel are badass fighters! That opening was fantastic to watch! Wow!
Great episode & reaction. Really tied a bunch of loose ends together, some good reveals. The next episode is going to be intense my dude!
"So much to unpack."
Yep.
Book readers agree.
I love your reactions.
Your reaction is very genuine. ♥️♥️♥️
”All I see is pain, all I feel is pain.” Welcome to the Wheel of Time, bro. More of that coming. Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots more. Yeah, did I day LOTS?
😭😭😭😭
Pain is not death. Pain is living through hardship. And living through it is what WoT is all about.
i love watching your reactions. it makes me rethink the episodes entirely and I've even rewatched them again directly because of these videos. (count me as one of the ppl totally oblivious to Perrin's feelings until now lol).
I have my own theory about the message Moiraine sent about Mat. We don't hear the whole message! I think it's a misdirection both for us and for the Red Ajah.
Just finished watching you watch the cold open: that was a joy😅💖🙏🏼
Yayyy
Bro, your perception is on point. Good catch on Nynaeve’s "trigger"!
@@tacosaresandwiches1207 Oh wow I really liked this theory. I have a feeling they wont address the recast at all.
@@Azfa_ I hope they really don't address it, they would have to reintroduce him to every character he already met. Better just have someone call him by name the first time Donal appears and leave it at that.
Explains those reshoots in 2020
@@tacosaresandwiches1207 BOOK SPOILER
this is the same thing i told my wife earlier when we saw the ep. Since he want really heled by the sisters as hr was in the books and didnt get the "luck" and memories there they will probably have the reds do something to awaken it.
Cant wait for the cairhien part and galad/gawyn fight so we can see his true worth and awesomeness in the show too 👀👀
"Aeee! ...Sedai" LOL Pure GOLD
You might need to go back and listen for the whistling in prior episodes. :)
Ep 1, whistling as the fade comes into Emond's Field, immediately followed by Padan Fain whistling as he brings his wagon in the next morning, giving a tie between these events
Ep 2, whistling in Shadar Logoth and a person's shadow moving, leading Mat to find the dagger
Ep 3, whistling in Breen's Spring (I think? I could be wrong on this one)
Ep 5, whistling in Tar Valon and Padan Fain is taking his ease at a café across the street from the inn, gets up with a smile and wanders off
Btw I subbed because of how you say 'Ohh nooooooo.....' I stayed for the rest. 🤣
😂😂😂 thank you!!!
Thanks! Love your reactions, man
The serpent eating its tail is an ancient symbol for eternity or infinity and was often used to represent the cyclical nature of time. The Greeks called it the Ouroboros.
Happy people are enjoying the series, best episode for me so far.
Nynaeves trigger is anger. Happy to see you caught on!
love your videos brotha ! new to your channel and can't wait to see where you go in 2022! much love !
I appreciate you!
There's a nice easter egg (no spoiler!):
The man that hosts Lan wears the Hadori, the traditional handband that Malkieri men wear.
That's a hint that he's from the same place as Lan.
Loved your reactions! It was a great episode, next week is going to take so long because I want to see it now! lol
"All I hear is pain. All I see is pain."
Welcome to the Wheel Of Time. 'Cause that's what it gives those who live there. Along with brief moments of joy, wonder, awe and love. Keyword #brief.
I love watching your reactions! As a book fan, I'm so excited to watch you learn more as it goes on!
It was amazing wasn't it. Great reaction. ❤️
A lot to digest. :) Love your reactions!
Dude I love you passion :). That was great ty
Lan being a King is so awesome. S king without a Kingdom. He's definitely very stoic and noble. Solidifying himself as my favorite character I think
Oh yeah...I totally loved Nynaeve stalking on Lan...lmao....that was cool.
The 9 bees are the emblem for the Illian military. It's a country far to the south, but the battle "the blood snow" was basically the Aiel against everyone and happened further North, near/ around Tar Valon.
Great review, bro. I love hearing your reactions and thoughts on this!
OMG this episode!!! My mind was racing afterwards too!
Ya, wow, best episode yet, I am very hopeful for season 2
Lan gets a little pay back for her following him, I love it
So, there's a bounty on crows, ravens etc. in the borderlands. They can be used as spies by the myrddraal. So seeing the Black hawk made out of their feathers on the king's back was pretty cool as a fan.
Another great episode.
Yor dude is a king indeed :)
"Her trigger is like anger"
...I mean yeah actually, you're spot on. They haven't brought it up in dialogue yet but yeah, she's kinda the hulk :D
The guys with the Golden Bees were from a kingdom called Illian, in the south-east. We haven't met them yet.
I freaking called it though so it made me so happy to be right! lol
I in love with the evolution of nynaeve
