  • In this video Leah, provides detailed insights into the CMP exam process for veterans seeking disability claims for headaches. Leah explains that veterans will receive paperwork indicating their CMP exam details, including the examiner's information. She suggests researching the examiner in advance, although notes this might increase anxiety for some. On the exam day, veterans should expect to complete paperwork and discuss their headache history, including type, duration, associated symptoms, medication, and impact on daily life and work. The examiner will use a Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) available on the VA website, which matches the rating criteria for disability. Leah clarifies that the exam might lead to an increase in existing benefits or new service connections, depending on the severity and impact of the headaches.

Thank you for all of your incredible work. I submitted my claim on 10/31/23. ACE exam was done in late November 2023. I am still waiting on a decision. I claimed migraines secondary to my SC hypertension. I had 6 months of migraine log, medication list with an increase in one medication. I think my claim is solid. It’s just taking a very long time. I did call the VA on 4/22/24 and I was told it is still in the evidence gathering stage and no decision has been made as of yet. The waiting blows.

Very good information. I search for your videos on C&P exams. I am a disabled Marine Corps vet. I never wanted to file for disability, but as I got older I could no longer function at the same level as I did. I sustained many injuries including PTSD while on active duty. My experiences with C&P exams is they are looking for reasons to deny me rather than looking for reasons to service connect me. I thought the V.A. had a duty to assist.

What if you have a daily headache for the last three decades? It is not debilitating but it is a nuisance. Tinnitus is the cause of it, it has to be, and it gets worse with each passing year. I've stopped complaining about it to doctors (VA or Otherwise) because they don't seem to believe me. Any thoughts on the matter? Thank. ~John

I am not legal expert or VA Claim professional in any capacity or manner, these are just my opinions as a veteran who is also dealing with the VA:
If the nuisance causes depression or anxiety and you are not rated for those, consider trying to approach your tinnitus disability from the standpoint of how it affects you mentally because if the headaches aren't severe enough by themselves, I doubt they will care. But seeking mental health therapy for the tinnitus and the issues it causes like low-grade constant headaches os probably your best route in my opinion. I have the same stuff going on but I do get migraines along with it.

These two claims were combined due to overlapping symptoms and Mental Components within the TBI DBQ versus Mental Health. My question is. Does the main Claim that includes the combined Symptoms from both TBI and Mental Health, need to be closed for VA Processing or will the VA start the processing of the C&Ps that have been already completed?

I’ve done a great job avoiding doctors since I separated in 2006. Rather, I’ve seen naturopathic doctors, learned meditation and yoga, experimented with cannabis, even gone to the extreme of ayahuasca ceremonies. These have helped tremendously with things I’m dealing with. However, I understand this might not help with my VA claim given I have avoided going to doctors and not ‘adding evidence’ to support my claim with the VA. I’m sure the examiner will ask why the large gap.
I can get buddy letters. I’ve considered getting a medical marijuana card that might help too. Switzerland has made most of these things legal and has successfully treated PTSD. I’m sure I can get medical evidence to support my claim.
Is telling the VA examiner I’ve done weed and psychedelics something that can hinder me?

I am not sure either, but, as marijuana and hallucinogenics are still illegal on the US federal level I would avoid bringing it up. If you need to explain the long gap in medical treatment I would emphasis that you were seeking holistic treatment via meditation, yoga, etc. and that it helped a lot initially but the problem has returned or never gone away completely.
