If he did is job right we will be better off
You might need to do King James VI & I after this video.
We could do with guy today it seems!
He'd get a lot of votes!
@working with nature: No we wouldn’t, bc we wouldn’t have the King James Bible and the Pope would be dictating the Laws and statutes.
Good Morning !
To show movie credits . Was there more than one ? Titles and the Dates of release .
Please And Thank You ! ** D **
It's ironic that the holiday meant to mock Guy Fawkes and celebrate his failure and death has kept his memory alive and led to him becoming something of a folk hero worldwide. He's become more recognizable than the king he attempted to assassinate.
It's controlled opposition. Fawkes was clearly a pawn to the elites, who didn't need a king or a parliament.
Guy Fawkes - The last person to enter Parliament with honest intentions .

@@lazy_lefty No laughing matter. We serious.
@@RonaldPickering good one. I think a couple of centuries later William Wlburforce entered with honest intentions. So Fawkes was the second to last to enter with honest intentions? 🤔
This tickled me a bit too much.

My Mother and a friend, they were 6 years old, followed a group of Guys, they got lost , this was in, Johannesburg, South Africa,1912/13, were found by Policeman, outside the city, ,each was carried by the policeman , at intervals, until they reach Marshall's Square in centre, put into a cell, where they spent the night, until their frantic parents found them the next day. Always an extra prayer for those policemen, who were Guardian Angels🌟
Whats that got to do with guy fawkes?
God is everywhere and in everything.
It's a shame I remember as a kid Nov 5th was a big deal ,,, now its nothing, a few idiots letting off rockets without a clue what it's about , I miss the days of fireworks, baked spuds, and a good night for the whole community 😢

At school they taught us that this guy was a monster. Now as a man, I realise this guy was just ahead of the curve.

Hero. May we always remember him and his noble deeds.
Let's not forget the other plotters, many of whom met the same fate as Fawkes, too. Wintour brothers, Gatesby, Percy, etc. All heroes in my book.
Really? He was a religious fanatical terrorist which is why years later, the failure of the plot is celebrated.
he was just a tool of the catholic church. no hero. the catholic church may be the single most evil entity on the planet.

Small thing I want to correct-its not just England who celebrates Nov 5th, Scotland does too, the small village I grew up in used to have a bonfire, guy and fireworks every year and the city I moved to still has fireworks but no bonfire and guy for some reason. I'm not sure how widespread it is over Scotland but it was a very small village I grew up in so I can only assume it must be relatively widespread
In English Colonies just prior to Declaration of Independence November 5 was celebrated as Pope’s Day. There was a teams battled to see who could burned the Pope in effigy! English Colonials declared independence from England because they had become too Catholic! Those are the Freedom fighters
@@melburke5405 erm ok? I wasn't speaking about "freedom fighters" nor religion I was merely pointing out a small fact that it's not just England that still celebrates Nov 5, in fact I can literally hear fireworks going off right now just 15min down the road from me where the city I live in must be having this year's display. It wasn't meant to be a discussion just a small point to correct the narrator who said only England celebrates Nov 5. So, yeah not sure what your point is my friend but thanks for the participation I guess
Edit-now I see your reasoning! I've had a look at your playlist, you are a crazy fucking bigot! I mean Tommy Robinson? You genuinely think that guy has anything decent worth saying? Wow lol ok fuck off mate, I've no interest in your fascistic ideas and faux victim complex

The burning of the effigy of Guy Fawkes in a big local bonfire has been adapted at various times and locations across the UK. It has been The Pope, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, other politicians, pop-stars and footballers. All done in good humour.

That was excellent...the plot sounds ridiculously naive. We should be thankful that King James didn't order the widespread massacre of Catholics after its failure - an English equivalent of the French Huguenot massacres thirty years earlier.
Thereby destroying the only populated medieval city left in all of France, that of the Hugenots. What a shame.

Guy Fawkes, where are you now? Your country needs you.
For someone whose birthday is also November the 5th, I see this as an absolute win.
The guy every college kid misinterpreted. 😂😂
In 1982, while in college here in Pennsylvania, I vaguely remember writing an essay on this for a European History class I took. I do remember receiving a grade of B for the effort, with a plethora of red corrections. Perhaps a "gentleman's B," but I was hardly a gentleman then. 🤣🤣😃😃

Good documentary. PP and Timeline's explanation of the plot fills in a lot of history.
Great job on this, very interesting to learn the actual history. Very well presented.
What's there to love about Guy Fawkes: underdog, fighting for his beliefs, and dying for his cause. Plus the mask is dope.
The other side of that coin: Religious fanatic, traitor to the crown, would-be mass murderer.
Excellent historical coverage video & informative video about competition between Catholic doctrine and Englican doctrine in Britain 🇬🇧 .80 years Dutch wars as background of personal history of Guy Fawkeys.
..freedom fighter
It's amusingly unsurprising that one with your given name would label him a freedom fighter.
@@Grenadier311 The freedom fighters were who Guy Fawkess was trying to murder to end their religeouse Protestant Freedoms. Fawkes was fighting to return society to the enslave ment status under the Catholic Pope. A plot which could result in a Bloody Civil war is not freedom for the hundred thousand who could have died. He plot would murder both Protestants and Catholics. So if he had delusions of being a Freedom Fighter the judges would judge him as a murderer over and above freedom Fighter.
Guy Fawkes was a hero.
He was a jesuit hitman. No hero!!
Crap trolling, he was a Catholic and failed. 😂
I'm a devout Catholic and I don't consider him a hero.

Imagine how different the world would of been had they said no and let them starve. Is that any different to how that Noble race is being treated today. It upsets me but part of me would like to hear both sides to what really happened. Imagine how much better the world would be with zero America. A country whose hero’s are outlaws like Billy the Kid Doc Holiday yet that’s the all American hero why not someone that conquered the Antarctic or Mount Everest some kind of real achievement not killing 19 men before the age of 21 what sort of person will hero worship them ( most kids in the us ). Great video thank you 👏👏👍👍a courageous man indeed for his beliefs and will be for ever be remembered so he did what he set out to do partly , to publicise the Catholic Plight 🤷♀️
This Guy Fawkes
Sorry had to do that
With the ethnocentrism of a failed Empire, an aged monarch who stood by and let the country tear itself apart, Brexit, and the S**t show that is the current British Parliament and government, Guy Fawkes shouldn't be burned in effigy, he should be considered the greatest hero England ever had.
Utter rubbish lol Still one of the best countries in the world, infact the biggest problem now is trying to control the number of people trying to get here through any means necessary. Predictably Brexit had little impact, the world is far too interconnected nowadays. With numerous wars going on across the world, one at the other end of Europe, the UK is showing its ability to offer assistance. You should be embarrassed by this comment talking about celebrating mass slaughter, you should consider what morals you think you have.
Mad to think Shakespeare was alive and could of known the guy
The fact that we still celebrate Guy Fawkes teells me he was a hero of the people so was doing right by the people.
28:58 Lord Montego blew their whole cover when he wrote that letter! He might as well have just shouted it from the roof tops at that point 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I thought it was coming tomorrow. Glad I didn't miss it.
I wish people beloved in anything as much as this man believed in his cause!
I wish that people who comment would proofread what they've written before they post.
As a child, I always thought he was an admirable person. I celebrated November 5 without realising it was meant to remember him as the bad guy lol. Even burning the guy, I thought “wow, this Guy guy makes really awesome fires too? He’s the best!” and despite learning the whole backstory in depth 🤷🏻♂️
I used to cynically joke that Guy Fawkes was 'the only man ever to enter parliament with honest intentions...' because, of course, his intention was to blow the place to smithereens! But the truth is he was working for the Roman Catholic Church, and as such was really anti-democratic and pro-tyranny (i.e. theocracy). And, of course, a traitor to his own country.
Jesuits are really good at rewriting history!
Even as a teen I thought we were celebrating him. It just seemed fitting the common peasantry would celebrate an attempt to blow up parliament, and it just became a tradition. But no, the tradition is that time we cut a dude to pieces and sent him to numerous places so we could do stuff to the pieces of human, including burning.
@@melburke5405 I think you will find that is Protestants who are really good at rewriting history
@@hgji7381 I think you will find that is not true!
We used to celebrate Guy Fawkes Bonfire night when I was in primary school.
He could be remembered by the movie 'V for Ventdetta'
May we always remember their noble steeds.
Interesting to hear of the actual plans that precipitated the November 5 plot.
You shall not murder or You shall not kill is a moral imperative included as one of the Ten Commandments, which, according to the Bible, were inscribed onto two stone tablets by the finger of God. Just a reminder to every one.
I can't believe people let me forget.
Desperate problem desperate remedy...undying words...never thought it meant a monstrous terrorist act to rid England of all its leaders to address the problem of protestant domination in England
Please to remember the 5th of November
Apparently no prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment or extracting confessions by torture back then.
"This one right here inquisitor. Might I recommend the thumb screws?" 😆
He was guilty, but wouldn't sing 👈👀
Still, the movement which eradicated (on paper) judicial torture was English in origin.
I have an amazing idea for a pub in that space
Nobody really understood British politics like Mr Fawkes...

The museum in York had all the equipment used to torture Guy when he was caught, they were horrific. And despite this Guy never gave them the names of his colleagues. What a hero.
Guy Fawkes tried to assassinate King James of England, bc a year earlier in 1604, King James commissioned the translation of the Bible.
Bonfire night commemorates Guy Fawkes being caught and failing to assassinate King James. It also commemorates the religious persecution and intolerance of the day. Trouble is no one participating in the celebrations actually knows why they are.
Of course he did,he did hold out for a couple of days giving them a chance to get away….which they never took. He suffered for nothing!
Let me know when you got a Cliffs Notes version of this
What a life!

At school they always taught you whenever this subject came up that guy Fawkes was this evil monster 😂 always believed it till I watched more on it

The plot was an existential matter for those whose ancestors would have been in attendance.
Dudes alias was just as good of an adult star name as his actal name, John Johnson. It also sounds super made up on the spot while looking at the bathroom lol.
Excellent! Unfortunately it is probably too soon for history's verdict.
Based on five PM's in four years, and the obvious corporate wealth stance involved by installing Sunak as PM also makes me wonder if England would've been better off had the plot succeeded.
In my country we aren't allowed fireworks due to government fears of public fun.
Australia it has been banned for decades, miss the fun 🤪
It's called "Un- necessary happiness". Lol
That's a bit repressive isn't it 👈😑
It's unnecessary garbage and noise.
