I normally just fill up the primary oil by the chain adjusting area...don't even bother to open the derby cover unless you are making adjustment to clutch..
Hey Carl, do you store your bike at the dealer over the winter? Whats your feelings on this? I live in Chicago so it gets cold here. lol...This will be my first winter with the 1200
I live in Ct and I have a garage. So I keep my bike inside all the time. I definitely would not store my bike outside but people do. I think the MotoJawn keeps his outside in Philly maybe ask him what he does. Thanks for watching.
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl yeah I don’t have the service manual. Eventually will get one though. Price for one wasn’t working for me lol. Cool man thanks. I will let you know if I have any questions. Ride safe!
Thanks for watching. Having a service manual for your bike is the best advice I could give anyone even if just for learning about your bike. Hope all is well and your putting some miles down.
Hey Carl, I wanted to let you know your supposed to check the engine oil on the jiffy stand. NOT vertical like in the video. I was confused but went back to check service manual and it for sure says the check while on bike stand. Not doing so and check vertical will run way less oil in the engine
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl Cannot wait to see…I think you will love the look! I went with LEDs too…with the Kuryakn Deep Dish black covers…smoked out in front and red on back…love them!
Sir you have made my service so much easier by this tutorial. Thank you for the thorough explanations and hacks I personally liked the air in the oil reservoir, and how to purge it.
Not yet mate, 8 week's next week and no word yet. Even once it arrives there's at least another week to get it ready to ride with licencing etc. Getting a bit antsy waiting for it LoL
I am out of warranty but my dealer only required you to do the first service with them and at that I don’t think they can enforce that. As always thanks for watching as always I appreciate it very much!!
Thanks for watching Doyle. Wish I was coming down. I am working on buying a nice enclosed trailer for my bikes so maybe next time. Also making money is hot up here now. I have to take it while I can. I have not even been able to ride much lately.
Edit: Did you try to find neutral after you touch that primary screw and spring? no problem for the neutral? thanks Thanks for this video. In my opinion this is the most detailed Sportster oil change i have ever see.
Excellent video Carl. I'm pretty confident now doing my 5k service myself. I need to go ahead and purchase a shop manual. Where did you get yours and what did they charge for it?
Informative video as always. I got about 4500 more to go to do this. It looks pretty easy to do. Just need to take your time and follow the manual.
Yep and make sure your bike is level.
Dude thanks so much you save me a lot of money and it feels great to do it yourself
NP it’s actually fun to do it yourself and learn about your bike. Thanks for watching.
I don't even own a sporty. I watched your fp3 video and thought it was very informative so I'm sticking around.
Thanks Joe I really appreciate it!!
Another great Vid Carl.
Best wishes from the UK 👍
Thank You!
Great video. I have a 2020 Roadster that I bought from a salvage yard to restore with my boys. Your video will come in handy as a reference.
Thanks for watching I appreciate the kind words.
thanks very much, wonderful demonstration ❤️
No problem Thanks for watching

Yes I adjusted my clutch So it was open. Alot of people say that they just fill it from the inspection cover. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Best Sportster channel on UA-cam hands down 🔥
Thanks For the very kind words. I appreciate it very much. Have a great weekend and ride safe.
You can also fill the trans lubricant at the chain inspection cover. Makes for no spill mess.
Was adjusting the clutch also otherwise that’s probably a great way.
Great video, detailed instructions-watched the whole things.
Thanks Debra much appreciated!! It was a long one but hopefully informative!
Pretty awesome. Thinking about doing mine myself as well. Great share Fam.
Not difficult and you can save yourself some $$$. Hardest part is bringing the oil to be recycled.
Good to know Fam. I just wanna do more work on my bike myself to not only save money but for the experience. Appreciate you doing this video. 🤙🏾🔥

Been waiting for this. Great video Carl! And thank you for sharing! I will be referencing this video while I do my 5k service.
If you don’t have a service manual and have a question let me know and I can send some pics of the pages you may need. Thanks for watching

Good tutorial. Thanks for posting
Thanks for taking the time to take a look. Much appreciated!!
can I ask why did you change the transmission lubrication/oil, if the manual service says not until 10,000 miles
Can’t hurt to do sooner.
VERY detailed video brother! This will help a ton of people on here! I need one like this for the Twin Cam

I will check into that Thank You for pointing that out.
It's under "Oil level Cold check" and " Oil level Hot check" both say to check while on jiffy stand.

What’s the part number for the inspection cover gasket and o rings?
Sorry I currently don’t have any of my manuals with me until I get in my new house. If I come across them on line I will add a reply

I bought the manual off of eBay it was a little pricey but worth every penny!!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I don’t remember the exact price
I have a video about it on my channel I may say what I paid in that video.
31:00 coat it in Vaseline. it will stick . Joel
Thanks for the great suggestion.
