Maybe the Fall of Gondolin? It's definitely a much simpler story overall but still a good one. I agree about the Christopher Lee audiobook. It's really well done. There's an old LP with Christopher Tolkien reading the Beren and Luthien chapter from the Silmarillion that is phenomenal although I can no longer find it on UA-cam or anywhere else online. If I said Christopher Lee I meant to say Christopher Tolkien. You can get an idea of how it'll sound if you listen to a similar recording he did which you can still find on UA-cam called Flight of the Noldor/Darkening of Valinor. You may have already heard it. I love that version of Fall of Gondor that you sent the link to. For years it's been my go to story for falling asleep to. The narrator's voice is super calming. For years before I used my old LOTR on cassette with Rob Inglis which I still listen to sometimes.
Beren and Luthien, their names even now are on the tombstones of their author and his wife, a shining example of a love so strong that none could stand between them. I feel so much sadness hearing their tale, but hopeful that I myself may find love like theirs. Hail Beren Arcamion and hail Luthien Tinuviel, may your names ring within me and others forever!
Ah, I couldn't agree more, it is a love story above all others! Their love is so great it is sad to see it finally leave you at the end of the story I do not doubt that if you seek it on that level, if you can afford someone the same love Beren and Lúthien give one another, then you will find them. Try wandering in the woods, I heard that works
Such love does exist. I was with my wife for thirty years before she passed. Yet it requires struggle, courage, and commitment, as well as acknowledging the Divine. Beren and Luthien teaches an appropriate and well-needed lesson about love. Wishing you the fulfillment of your hopes.
Martin Shaw doesn't get the praise he deserves for his awesome reading of The Silmarillion that I have on cassette which if I'm not mistaken is featured a little bit in this epic video. I'd love to see/hear this video's creator (Meduseld I assume but don't know for sure) do something from The Lay of Laythein. I apologize if that was misspelled. Anyway, again---great job!!!!!!
I'm not one for giving out lavish praise and I'm a purist when it comes to Tolkien but this really is fantastic, the way you add the music to build up the tension as it goes along is wonderful, also the choice of music. Can't thank you enough, this is destined to become a classic in it's own right.

Amazing
Well done
I can only immagine the effort of producing this amazing work. If there is any way you can share a transcription of the words I would love to lay hands on them (English is not my first language and it would be helpful). Still many thanks Meduseld!
Hey man! Thank you for the kind words. Interestingly a friend of mine approached me the other day about getting the subtitles properly done. Once we've figured it out I'll be sure to send a copy of the whole thing over to you :)
❤
To Hell with The Lord of the Rings!
I wish they spend all the money to make a movie about this story
Aye the 3 Big stories in the Silmarillion could exist in separate but subtly interconnected stories, I reckon
Illuvatar has an "R" on the end and if the bloke talking had read even the slightest bit about Tolkien's languages he would know how ridiculous it sounds to call the God of all, Iluvatta because in Eldar it means nothing. Sindarin possibly but more than anything just plain slack!
Martin Shaw is infamous for his mispronunciations in the Silmarillion haha
Absolutely no need for the super loud Opera breakout when Beren finds Luthien
Why not? Do you mean the whole song or a specific part?
Apologies for the sound changes, I'm not proficient in video making, more an infrequent hobbyist. It was intended for my family and friends, I didn't expect the magnanimous Jon Scanlon would ever grace his blessed eyes over mine own videocraft
@@meduseld6610 mate......apologies......its a great video....it was just that i was completely zoned out and chilled to the pount i drifted off and it was amazing....the male opera singer woke me in a startle, having watched it again since I see its place, I apologise for the feedback and glad that you refer to me in such glorifying terms. Many thanks and honestly....thank you for a great vid!
@@jonscanlon9911 Haha, no worries man! I like to hear other's opinions, especially from those familiar with the story. If the placement felt wrong to somebody I want to hear why of course
Although I am more glad you ended up liking it, thank you for the kind words, knowing I've made something another fan can enjoy means a great deal
great stuff but why the name?
Do you mean my channel name?
@@meduseld6610 Yep just bit of a head scratcher
@@seakayak4425 Haha, it's just an injoke between friends. I wasn't expecting different people to find my channel
@@meduseld6610 Fair nuff, did make me laugh also
An animation?🙂
Hmm?
@@meduseld6610 just pictures, 😕😔
@@calvinjohnstone2664 Not at all! There is lovely music set to the pictures too, a Beren and Lúthien soundtrack if you will
Apologies if the title baited you and you expected a live-action thing. Usually most are up-to-date with what's coming out so I thought I could get away with a bit of bait haha
The sudden changes in volume and intensity is making it hard to listen to
Yeah it does suffer from that, but I have no idea how to change it at this point. If played through the TV or on a phone it isn't all too noticeable I think
I cringe whenever he says "Iluvahta".
Haha, "owluh" always used to rub me the wrong way. Cuz he says it correctly one time in the Silm, then never again
The story is phenomenal! Narrators is outstanding! The opera singer is annoying and breaks up the flow of the narrative.
I like the music! Tolkien's World was created through The Music, and his writing is often interpolated with poetry. To me it keeps in theme with what could've been Tolkien's attempt at putting together a proper Beren and Luthien narrative, people sing in Tolkien's stories man!
