Beren and Lúthien: THE MOVIE (The Extended Edition)
I DO NOT OWN THE COPYRIGHT NOR CLAIM OWNERSHIP OVER ANY OF THE CONTENTS IN THIS VIDEO
Firstly I would like to give praise and thanks to all whose works I have used in this video. Unlike Fëanor, I understand that these magnificent renderings I have taken from and blended together (to hopefully create something new and fair) means I have no ownership over what I have made. I merely view it as the culmination and joining of all Renderers of Tolkien, from the painters to the music players, and the orators. I bow before all of you.
To begin with I thank J.R.R. Tolkien, for every beautiful word, and Christopher Tolkien for compiling them. These being taken from the Silmarillion and the Beren and Lúthien book. I apologise profusely for editing your carefully chosen words, Tolkien, I recognise it is one of the most heinous sins I could ever commit on your works. Please forgive me.
I thank the narrators, Martin Shaw, Timothy West and Samuel West for their epic voices! Again, I have edited them, my apologies if it comes across as a stain on your brilliance.
I thank the Fellowship and The Tolkien Ensemble for their wonderful music and renditions of poems. Easily my two favourite Tolkien bands. Once more an apology is owed as I have edited parts out or together, and sullied their original beauty.
Finally, and not the least in thanks by a long stretch, I thank all artists whose drawings, pictures, renditions I have used in here. I would credit each of you individually but it is going to be a massive undertaking, credit will be in the description in time. When I first started making this it was only meant to be for friends and family so I did not think to jot down each artist's depiction I downloaded. Where possible I have left the artist's signature still in the picture. However, I do know who I have borrowed heavily from, Ted Nasmith, Jenny Dolfen, Alan Lee, Elena Kukanova, Anke Eißmann and Hurin63 for their banners in the thumbnail. To the many who I have not named, my deepest apologies and sincerest thanks. And for the final time, I must apologise for editing your works too. The good majority all of the pictures seen in this video have been edited by me in Photoshop, I am so sorry for corrupting your work.
All edits made by me were done for narrative sake, not because I have disliked any parts of anyone's contributions to the Tolkien Legendarium. In fact, I adore all of you and your works hence why I chose to use them. Thank you again, and please forgive me for my sins.
For those of you wondering why I have made some changes in the narrative you will find my excellent reasons why I believe they enhance the story in this link: aminoapps.com/p/esg39lj

    The story of Beren and Luthien -- what a WONDERFUL movie this would make. A valiant and steadfast hero. An uber-beautiful elf heroine with agency and power. A journey into the heart of darkness to confront Morgoth himself. Triumph and tragedy, death and resurrection. It has everything! and the emotional level is at a pitch like nothing else in Tolkien. If done right with acting and production values like LOTR, a complete winner. And this is the story Tolkien cared most about.

      @@williamharris1146 Aye it has all the makings of an epic film. Though I think in this current sociopolitical state that both characters would be done a disservice! I look forward to the day when the rights are in the hands of the public!

    Martin Shaw doesn't get the praise he deserves for his awesome reading of The Silmarillion that I have on cassette which if I'm not mistaken is featured a little bit in this epic video. Some may recognize his name from the amazing BBC series Inspector George Gentley. I love this wonderful version which was obviously a labor of love like Bluefax. I'm glad that Hollywood hasn't been able to get the rights and make it since they don't have a great track with adapting Tolkien, or anyone else for that matter. I bet I'll be horrified when I finally see Netflix's adaption of One Hundred Years of Solitude. I'd love to see/hear this video's creator (Meduseld I assume but don't know for sure) do something from The Lay of Laythein. I apologize if that was misspelled. Anyway, again---great job!!!!!!

    Came across an article saying WB was in talks with Peter Jackson for a trilogy adaptation of the Beren and Lúthien book. Then I landed here by chance. The story of Beren and Lúthien never fails to bring me to tears. Knowing how the Hobbit adaptation worked out, I have developed a much deeper appreciation for the audiobooks. But experiencing the condensed version of this tale, I can honestly say there's no need for a trilogy. Thank you for this.

    Illuvatar has an "R" on the end and if the bloke talking had read even the slightest bit about Tolkien's languages he would know how ridiculous it sounds to call the God of all, Iluvatta because in Eldar it means nothing. Sindarin possibly but more than anything just plain slack!

    I can listen to this again and again. Very well done! I don't think I'd be alone in wishing/hoping for a similarly done adaption of the Children of Hurin. That would be fantastic! I'd love it if Phil Dragash would do an adaption too, since he made what is arguably the best audio version of LOTR ever made. Nothing against Andy Serkis, but they should have given Dragash the money they paid Serkis to do what is honestly the ONLY version of a LOTR audiobook and instead acknowledged the version everyone likes and prefers.

      Thank you for your kind words. I'm surprised it has gone down so well with the seemingly more hardcore fans lol You're not alone, I've had my cousin begging for ages too! When I first saw your comment I was inspired to give it another crack, but I don't think I could make it work. I have Sir Christopher Lee's audio for the Children of Húrin which is about 7 or 8 hours long. Annd the thing is so damn well tightly written there's hardly any fat I could trim without disrupting the story or taking too much away from it. It would probably be a further hour at least, and I'd like to include some of the poetry that's in HoMe. Open to hear any suggestions on how to go about it Aye you're right, not a big fan of the Serkis narration either. It's not bad, but I don't like my memory of the movies to get conflated with the book. Ian McKellen's Gandalf is already hard to scrub from my mind when I read it

    • @Strider-bl5sq
      @Strider-bl5sq 8 місяців тому

      Maybe the Fall of Gondolin? It's definitely a much simpler story overall but still a good one. I agree about the Christopher Lee audiobook. It's really well done. There's an old LP with Christopher Tolkien reading the Beren and Luthien chapter from the Silmarillion that is phenomenal although I can no longer find it on UA-cam or anywhere else online. I'll have to eventually track down and pay for the old record I suppose like I did for Nicol Williamson's reading of The Hobbit. Despite being abridged it's awesome just due to his talent with the different voices. Thanks for the reply. My wife and son don't care much for Tolkien which is hard since I'm obsessed so it's nice to actually talk to someone like minded in regards to the secondary world

      @@Strider-bl5sq I wasn't even aware such a thing existed! Now that is precious, no doubt hidden in a dragon's hoard! Thank you for making me aware, it will be on my radar in future too. If I come across it, I would very much like to include it in an updated version of this story. I have ideas to improve upon this, but the undertaking would be far too great as I've lost many of my files I made doing this. However, being able to include some Christopher Lee would be more than enough to get my beacon lit I did want to do the Fall of Gondolin, but I've since come across another channel Dan Iel who has done something similar to me and I feel as though I would be treading on his toes. He's compiled the audio into one complete narrative although (wisely) has not used any music or pictures. Here is a link if you fancy: ua-cam.com/video/WfCf9TSe2Lo/v-deo.html I suppose I could always ask for his blessing.. I understand how you feel not being able to share a part of your passion with your loved ones. It is partly why I made this, so I could gather the family round and have them indulge in some Tolkien in an easily digestable telling, they politely put up with it for about an hour and had enough haha. Ah well! I get speak with others like yourself since I've made it, and it scratches that particular itch. Lovely to chat, and thank you again for putting me onto the Christopher Lee LP!

    • @Strider-bl5sq
      @Strider-bl5sq 8 місяців тому

      If I said Christopher Lee I meant to say Christopher Tolkien. You can get an idea of how it'll sound if you listen to a similar recording he did which you can still find on UA-cam called Flight of the Noldor/Darkening of Valinor. You may have already heard it. I love that version of Fall of Gondor that you sent the link to. For years it's been my go to story for falling asleep to. The narrator's voice is super calming. For years before I used my old LOTR on cassette with Rob Inglis which I still listen to sometimes.

I’ve been listening to this again and again after finding the link from the older ( but very good) reading by Christopher Tolkien of the much shorter version. Simply beautiful! WELL, I couldn't agree more it is my favourite of the Three Great Tales too! It's my attempt at blending the different versions of the story together, though I cannot take credit for how beautiful it is. All I've done is taken from others, nothing is my own. I've taken the narration from The Silmarillion with Martin Shaw, and Timothy and Samuel West's narration of the Beren and Lúthien book The music I've taken from the album In Elven Lands by The Fellowship and The Tolkien Ensemble's Lord of the Rings. If you aren't aware of them already I strongly recommend checking them out! And all the art is by so many different people I couldn't even begin to list them all, which is an awful shame on my part
