After 20 years and 5 Tacomas, I took a chance a year ago and traded my 2020 AG TRD Pro for a 22 Pro-4x. Currently have 26k miles, a full ADO Bilstein lift w UCAs, Wildpeaks, a Westin bumper w winch and a ton more little mods and add-ons. Handles like a beast off road and is a far better driving experience on road. Don't miss the Taco at all...

Frontier= Crawl ratio 60:1 fully boxed titan frame (ability to titan swap suspension/engine) , Dana 44 locking rear (pro4x) , dana front diff, spicer transfer case, powerful vq motor, rear disc brakes, bullet proof and made in USA. Tacoma= 33:1 crawl ratio, C channel frame (on going corrosion frame recalls) , rear drum brakes, now made in Mexico, reliability declining and Toyota tax.

Have had both. Currently a taco.
I think the nissan is better constructed. Much better seating. More comfortable. Better cabin. Better power.
      That said.
Tacoma is better off road, probably last longer.
As a daily driver or everyday I'd definitely go Nissan. As a play toy and long term I'd go tacoma. The reasons people dont like the motor and tranny in the tacoma is partly why it'll last longer. It basically drives at 1100 rpm. It never even works. Torque doesn't pull until 4000 rpm. The truck is basically just never under stress. It's overbuilt on top of it. It has to hit 4k before its even in the torque to stress. It never does in normal driving. It'll pretty much idle along lowest rpm possible. The frame is great off road it has give. Less likely to get a wheel off the ground especially with after market or off road suspension. Nissan definitely more power and better driving though

Nissan may have a small aftermarket but they have everything you need. Titan swap. Hefty Fabworks already has a full line of armor for the new gen. I bought my Xterra when shopping for 4Runners. The cost difference was insane. Just the amount saved covered my titan swap and some armor. The Xterra has more power, locker, and now has ~10 inches of travel.

I have a ‘95 Nissan D21 in my garage next to my 09 Tacoma TRD, and the Nissan creams the Tacoma off-road - stay with me - It has a lower crawl ratio, ring and pinion closer to a Dana 44 from factory, than the Tacoma’s 8” gears, fully boxed chassis, and most of the guts are protected by the chassis. Nissan makes the most overlooked trucks on the market. My ‘95 Nissan also has more ground clearance stock than my 09 Taco does with a 2.5” lift. Guessing Nissan has kept up the good work, and kept quiet about it… great to see a video about the Frontier. I’d just about trade the Taco for one if only Nissan made a manual. Oh, and if Nissan dumped the bad partnerships… Bring it back Nissan!!!

I chose a second generation Nissan Frontier Pro-4X over all the newer trucks including the Tacoma for a reason: a long and proven track record. In every comparison I watched online and article I read the Frontier did everything the competition did for less money and has been around forever so all the problems were fixed long ago. It's a bullet proof platform and parts are cheap if anything does go wrong. The aftermarket for it is weak admittedly compared to other trucks but there is enough to get it where you want it to be. Plenty of performance and suspension modifications available if you know where to look. I'm hoping with the new generation the Frontiers get more attention and aftermarket support.

It better complete, as its been 6 years since the 3rd gen Tacoma released. Toyota is already releasing a newly redesigned Tacoma in 2024. Nissan basically took a lot of the Tacomas design and put their spin on it. The new 2024 Tacoma is going to be killer with the appeal of the new Tundra. I absolutely love the Tacoma and I feel the new Frontier is killer looking as well, but I'd take the Tacoma all day for every category. You really can't go wrong with one. . . I rather Nissan light some fire under Toyota to get them to take more risk.

Probably super easy. The rangers platform is from like 2013 and It was super outdated since it got to the US. The engine is the only decent thing in it. For me it was the tacoma because I off road and they don't offer any decent lifts for the frontier, they only have one but it's way overpriced and not even that good. I personally think all trucks come with absolute garbage suspension except for the trd pro and the raptor. I'm actually excited for the new trucks to come out. The tremor actually has fox 2.0 in front that are the cheapest shocks fox offers and the rear are only slightly better than the cheapest, but still way better suspension over the stock ranger garbage. However I personally wouldn't recomend anything bellow 2.5 in the front for any truck if you do any higher speed dirt roads/washboard.

Not everyone is a Rock Crawler. Rock Crawling is not off roading. It's in a league all its own. Us off roaders are like Rock and Rollers ... Rock Crawling is Metal! I hate how Rock Crawling has taken over, and nothing else is off road. Some of us are content exploring and coming across things such as this point in the video (0:37). Not everyone is trailering their rig, or going straight for a Rock garden. Yup, super cool. But it's not off roading ... it's Rock Crawling. I always read it on forums when someone shows anything other then Rock crawling, yahoo's always saying, "THATS NOT OFF ROADING!!" Yes it is! Okay, driving down a gravel driveway, or going up a "trail" to take pics of your truck ... that is somehow Shiney in the photos, if you were actually wheeling ... then go home after. Okay, I agree with you there.... okay, rant over. I'll go watch, maybe you'll redeem yourself.

I really wish Nissan put some better tires on it, and leveled it out. The "Fake your MPG" stance really hampers it offroad. I traded in my 2012 Xterra Pro-4x for a 2022 Frontier Pro-4x. The Xterra was completely stock except for the KO2's and I never had an issue going anywhere I wanted in the back country. While it's really nice taking a modern truck off the beaten path, and the trail cam is a fender saver, it is handicapped by a couple of simple fixes. And I understand they wanted to keep the price as low as they could, and serious overlanders were going to mod it out anyway. So then for my location and needs, 2.5 inch lift and some 33's will make it a legit Norcal boondocker.
