Being a pedestrian or riding a bicycle is the most dangerous way to commute on Indian roads. In Bangalore there are no zebra crossings anymore. You literally have to spot an opening somewhere and sprint across and hope. No one is going to slow down for you. Footpaths are occupied by the shops or are used for car parking or are broken altogether.
real problem - especially being a cyclist in India. In CHennai they introduced lot of smartbike stands and enabled a few roads - but these are not used much. Our culture should change to enable walking and cycling. Taxis should be better regulated. Then people wont want to own a car

Excellent video.. Agree to all the points... Specially the last fact where in India, any person's success is calculated by what car he is buying There are people who tell me to buy car. I say them why? to travel just 3-4 time in year? And how to maintain that elephant as it demands a lot of money in maintenance. Unfortunately, people don't get this. I keep seeing people's whatsapp status buying one more bigger car every now and then.
Absolutely loved this video, Dhruv! Clicked through your heatwave video. Your insights resonate deeply with my own experiences and beliefs. I've never owned a vehicle in my entire life because, like you, I believe it's impractical and environmentally damaging in a densely populated city like Mumbai. The inefficiency and expense of owning a car here are staggering. It's not just a waste of time and money, but it also contributes to the city's severe pollution and traffic problems. Mumbai's unique urban landscape makes public transportation a far more logical choice. The city's public transit systems, though imperfect, are still more efficient and eco-friendly than private cars. Our Aarey Colony, often called the last Brazilian forest of Mumbai, is a crucial green space that needs protection. Allowing cars into this area only accelerates its degradation, threatening both the environment and the health of residents. Aarey Forest is a vital ecological asset, home to diverse flora and fauna, including several endangered species. It acts as Mumbai’s green lung, absorbing pollutants and providing much-needed oxygen. The forest also plays a critical role in regulating the city's temperature and mitigating the urban heat island effect. Its lush greenery and open spaces offer a natural respite for residents, promoting mental and physical well-being. Preserving Aarey is not just an environmental necessity but a social imperative to maintain Mumbai's ecological balance. To truly address these issues, we need to rethink our transportation choices and urban planning. Banning cars from Aarey Colony would be a significant step towards preserving this vital sanctuary and improving the overall quality of life in Mumbai. We need atleast 5 more Aarey colonies in Mumbai. Your video is a powerful reminder of why we must advocate for sustainable solutions. Keep up the great work! (Comment edited by ChatGPT)

15 minute city is an amazing concept. If everything can be available at a walking distance of 10-15 minutes, then that would be really amazing. When you won't have any requirement of using a car, you'd eventually not own a car. Subsequently you're gonna be much healthier.
It's an imaginary solution which is only possible if you are either not switching your company or living on rent to easily relocate, both of these reasons are practically impossible
Nice dream but try making Delhi a 15 minute city. Not only is it impossible, even if you did achieve it, r*pes, pickpockets, robberies, etc., will skyrocket like no tomorrow. The main argument for private transport in this country is safety, not convenience.
@@RajatTest7 Switch culture is not a major problem unless you're switching to another city altogether. If the second city is also having similar planning, then it will work out the best. It is not impossible. It is definitely an expensive and a long term goal to achieve but it is attainable.
Wow, I've been obsessed over cars, not because I actually need one, but because I wanted it. But you've completely changed my way of thinking. You might have upset a lot of car companies with what you said, haha. We often get obsessed with things that don't really matter, just to show off or fit in, and we forget about what's truly important. You could have ignored this topic and talked about something more popular or profitable, but instead, you chose to do what's right. I hope I can be like you and prioritize what truly matters. I admire you, bro.
Imagine walking peacefully on a quiet street, free from the worries of traffic. You reach your destination undisturbed, enjoying the serene surroundings without the fear of being hit by a car.
17:54 that is true with me. I live in a small town and main city is 40km away. Earlier My father always use train to go to the city but since when the road became good He only prefer to go by road However by motorbike since we don't have car.😊
Being in India, I am definitely trying to use my two wheeler instead of my car whenever I am commuting alone or we are two people commuting. This saves time, we are not stuck in traffic unlike when in car. This saves fuel and thereby saving money. If we are more than two people then only we use our car. As far as car buying decision is considered, I personally figure out the usage of my car instead of getting a car by people's recommendation. Climate change is a big issue and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. I believe people like us can make an impact. Just FYI, I travel approx 30 kms that includes both large and small roads on a two wheeler (for people who might question on safety on a two wheeler). By the way, thank you so much Dhruv for addressing this. Looking for more videos like this.

Thank you speaking about the real issue behind the primary element of status and achievement in Indian mindset. Also for speaking strait to ban the cars. Owning a car is much more than a traffic issue. It is an elements of civic hazard, social conflicts everywhere, economically driven attitude leading to most common conflicts and a typical Indian mindset of good lifestyle and much more. Though most of them are on installments but everyone is high headed like a boss.
Absolutely! Was just thinking the same yesterday, the pollution is unbearable and it's going to cause severe health issues! I hope there's some solution implemented soon. We need a shift, to learn to let go cars and use public transport!
I remember it used to take me 60+ minutes to travel 19 kms from my home to work (used to work 7:30pm to 4:30am). Sometimes I would reach work and be dizzy due to inhaling fumes in traffic jams. The smog would stick to my skin and every time I shampooed my hair the water would be black. Just absolutely terrible. (This was in Hyderabad, going from Tolichowki to Uppal). It was a big motivator to look for a job in HITEC where the commute wasn’t as terrible.

Bicycles are useless during summers because of heat and are useless during monsoon because of heavy rains. People always show examples of European countries when talking about bicycles but they fail to understand that the places where bicycles are heavily used like Netherlands are fairly cool places where temperatures rarely exceed 30 degrees. India is also a fairly humid country compared to European countries. I have a better question to ask, why are most High-Tech jobs created in cities in India? Why does an IT company NEED to be in a city? Why can't they move jobs that does not need to be in a city such as IT jobs to neighbouring towns thereby removing congestion out of cities while also developing Towns in the process?. I live in Europe, you will rarely find any high end Tech, Engineering or R&D based jobs in cities here, they are usually in the towns. European cities usually only have jobs that are NEEDED to be in cities, such as service sector jobs.

I appreciate the variety of topics you cover on your channel. From informative tutorials to entertaining vlogs, you've got it all. Your videos are not only entertaining but also educational, and I have learned so much from watching them
80% I agree with you. we need express ways to reduce down time to connect two states or cities. Your planes only work with in urban areas. As example, i want to reach Darjiling from Howrah within a short time, I need an express way where I can meet maximum speed and now it is not possible because there are no good quality highways. so, we must need express ways. 🙂
One of the most pertinent UA-cam videos. I have been thinking about the same issue for so long. One additional points, why ever bigger and wider body car models are being allowed on Indian roads. Were the previous models like Maruti800 not sufficient. We can just compare the avg size of cars in 1990s vs today.
Valid points. I would never use cars and start using a bicycle if there were better paths for cycles here, when I lived in Chandigarh, the bicycle paths were well designed.
I guess u will also use more public transport But for people like me public transport is worse I have motion sickness and whenever I use a public transport I get a feeling of dizziness. Even if I start talking to any other person inside a bus then I automatically start feeling dizzy So to stop this from happening I have only one option(that is to keep my focus outside of window and stay quiet) But this isn't possible because some people always keep disturbing me And whenever I don't get a seat. I can't even bear more than 5 mins in the bus So, for that reason I need cars to go Comfortably or bikes are also okay for that purposs
Chandigarh is green and beautiful i love it i also live here Every sector has their own park, shopping centre, shops, fruit and vegetables vendors everything which are needed in daily basis.
Definitely pedestrian friendly cities are better than car centric ones and I love walking (it's also better for health) so I'd definitely support more pedestrian centric infrastructure. Especially in big cities with high population density. Hope our policy makers look into it.
I agree with you bro but if my wife is pregnant what should I suppose to do. Rely on public transportation or Uber or having a car that help in this situation. And if my family member get sick middle of the night?. We need cars for our families.
Public Transport is also full of crowd at peak hours in Delhi. We must lower down the population. We should learn fron Haryana and should also promote the Haryana in India for an example and to inspire the whole country to lower down the population, so that the load on natural resources an be cut down. Bihar and Uttar Pradesh is gonna be disaster for whole India in terms of population and load-contribution on natural resources. So We need to deal with over-population of India firstly.
What a mind-blowing video this is , thank you sir for changing my perception for cars 🙏 before watching this I felt bad because I don't have car and this is harsh reality of our society that car is symbol of prosperity and this is really terrible
Don't compare India with western country.. They are develop But in industrial Revolution this western country produce pollution so much that India can't in 100 year
Seeing your thoughts in the video made me happy that atlast there is someone who share the same thought and solutions to these problems. I hope that people start changing from their own lifestyle first,as it will give them an inner peace knowing that they are not contributing to the destruction of their future generations otherwise i am imagining a future where people will born in Hell(earth),live in hell and atlast will be free after dying in this hell.
In today's living conditions living without cars is almost impossible.. but yes medium to long term solutions can be find out. But few thing we all can do is stop unnecessary use of vehicles .. stop buying multiple vehicles ... pooling for office .. give preference to public conveyance for commuting... buy small hatchback cars instead of big SUV's. At government level set 15 years life of cars throughout country to eliminate old vehicles from roads. Apart from this Civic authorities must vacate illegal encroachments of footpaths from shopkeepers so that people feel comfortable walking on roads.
Dhruv, private cars are total lifesavers in emergencies and remote areas. They give you the freedom to go wherever, whenever, and make family trips way more comfy. Plus, they're a must for work and accessibility. And when heavy rains mess up public transport, private cars save the day, man. Can't overlook all these factors!
Yeah but still we have alternative solutions of these problems but pollution we don't have any other solution it can be possible and in case of emergencies we have taxi and for family trip we can rent a car
If any city wants to introduce this policy, need to work on drainage system first, absolutely no risk of flooding should be there. Tokyo drainage system is a benchmark for anti flooding system.
In my opinion no four wheeler should be allowedd in crowded city ...only e cycle, hoverboard, ebicycle etc should be allowed and these things should be available everywhere in the city by government and those should be available in free cheap price so that everyone can afford them

Agree to all the points... Specially the last fact where in India, any person's success is calculated by what car he is buying
There are people who tell me to buy car.

You are fool or misinformed.

@@RajatTest7 it's fraud, agenda to control people
@@RajatTest7 Switch culture is not a major problem unless you're switching to another city altogether. If the second city is also having similar planning, then it will work out the best. It is not impossible. It is definitely an expensive and a long term goal to achieve but it is attainable.

Agreed, I purchased a new bicycle, but I am unable to utilize it due to the heavy traffic congestion in my city, Indore.
I remember rading Ruskin Bond's book "the lamp is lit", where he mentioned how people in Delhi(or any other metro city) will stand in line for hours to get a bus while a walk to their destination will only take half an hour. This is true even today.

@@ShukraInvestLucknow population is the problem but the thing is that you cannot control the population in 5 or even 10 years but the number of cars can be reduced in a span of 2 to 3 years. Now I am not saying that population should not be controlled but controlling population takes a lot more time so until the population is under control we can reduce down the number of cars on the street or we can make laws so that on an average a person can drive their car only 2 to 3 times a week and when the population is under control we can make car usage normal.
@AjiteshBharat population is the problem. But the thing is that most of the space of the road is occupied by cars and those cars are owned only a small percentage families. Even many 4 members' family own 2 or 3 cars. So population is a headache for traffic but car is the root cause...

Same bro, I own a car but still commute daily using my scooty in Gurgaon, it takes almost double the time if u're using a car and on top of that, there's parking issue as well.

So, for that reason I need cars to go Comfortably or bikes are also okay for that purposs

Public Transport is also full of crowd at peak hours in Delhi. We must lower down the population.
We should learn fron Haryana and should also promote the Haryana in India for an example and to inspire the whole country to lower down the population, so that the load on natural resources an be cut down.

@@mr.imperfect7510 societies can own collective cars like they have guards, can keep drivers, doesn’t offices do it already?
couples ko public transport me dekh ke jo guilt aur jealousy hoti hai ....bhai ...CARS ARE THE BEST
Take the example of Amsterdam, how are they surviving without cars
If any city wants to introduce this policy, need to work on drainage system first, absolutely no risk of flooding should be there. Tokyo drainage system is a benchmark for anti flooding system.
Finally, the case study most awaited. A eye opener concept 😌 Thanks Dhruv ❤️
In my opinion no four wheeler should be allowedd in crowded city ...only e cycle, hoverboard, ebicycle etc should be allowed and these things should be available everywhere in the city by government and those should be available in free cheap price so that everyone can afford them
@@annAdafc yeah 👍 govt should start services like renting bikes and Cycles in crowded cities like Mumbai , delhi , Bangalore etc
@@annAdafc and lakhs of people who will lose the job what about them?
