- A Maryland investigation into Baltimore's Catholic Church discovered a yearslong cover-up of the sexual abuse of more than 600 children. “We will do everything we can to bring those abusers and those who enabled them to justice,” said State Attorney General Anthony Brown. Do not forget for a second that people do NOT simply overcome the effects of abuse. It fundamentally changes the personality - the original child dies and another child is created to withstand the torture. Next, every one of these kids will have lifelong health issues as has been documented on cases of the first sexual contact being forced. Survivors have more heart attacks, autoimmune diseases, depression, and many other physical disorders that will haunt their lives. And lastly, survivors of abuse are more likely to abuse others, as they spend a lifetime trying to overcome and "control" what happened to them. This can take the form of abusing children themselves, as they strive to end their victim-hood. Every one of these survivors should have free physical and mental health care for the rest of their lives, paid for by the institution that betrayed them. Anything less is not justice.

Thank you to bring this point that these individuals suffer effects of the abuse and trauma throughout their lives, that there is long lasting impact. It’s extremely rare to see this point made. It’s not over for them when the abuse stops.

I am horrified that they keep uncovering these evil, disgusting, and perverted abuses of childern by trusted so-called religious people. As with any sexual abuser, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. No exceptions. The Church once again must stand up and admit it's failings and punish those who commited these atrocities.

I think you'll find that religion in general is one of the most disgusting things out there, full of bigoted, entitled people who think they can't be harmed.
This is sickening. Society needs to understand that those who sexually abuse children will never change and never stop. They will find new ways, new avenues to get near children. This not only happens in Catholic Churches, but also protestant churches in youth ministries and private schools. Repeat offenders should be subject to surgical castration. They've given up their right to bodily autonomy by repeatedly abusing innocent children.
Removed from contact with society if I had a say. Castration has proven to do nothing because it is s crime of power, they did more violence to victims after. Try reading up on positions one takes.

After my father died my family requested the local catholic priest to bless him during evening services for 12 days. We had to pay a "donation" for this service. A few years later that same priest is busted for molestig several children. Really is a disgusting thing they're doing.
My grandfather doesn't go to church. However, to have a funeral there when he died he had to pay yearly dues. He's been paying them a long time (decades). A few months ago the church shut down. All that money he's been paying every year just for a funeral gone. Crazy stuff.
My parents were part of a small town church community, and one of the leaders there, who also happened to be their close friend, used to abuse me as a boy. I was only about 7. He used to tell me it was a normal thing that people who respect and like each other do. When the abuse came to light, they chose to help their little church cover it up and gaslighted me that I was wrong to have brought it up, I think they punished me, even, for "lying". I never, ever forgave, or forgot that. I could never be part of a religion after that, which I do regret because it seems to bring some people peace of mind. But they ruined it for me forever.

Parents. Don't ever leave your children alone with or under the supervision of a Catholic priest or any other staff. None of them recognize the rights of child, period.
Never let your children sleep over anywhere but in your own home and no outside friends etc sleeping over.

This is a sad reality… my aunt was forced to a convent at a young age. She used to tell us many horrible stories about what was like, they would starve all the kids and only feed them flour and sugar and wouldn’t let them see their parents face to face, instead they would meet behind a curtain so that the parents wouldn’t see how bad they looked. I hope they keep exposing the atrocities that the Catholic Church is hiding.
I don’t know if I’ve ever met a collection of Catholics so horrid and I grew up in that religion. I just hope the evil ones are exposed so the victims can have more closure and society might be a little safer.

And too many parents leave their kids in child care some times free care and sometimes payed. Either way they sometimes leave them all day with complete strangers then get mad when something goes wrong. You kids miss you and they want to go home and be with you. So many parents ignore that basic need. I get that many times parents have work and are often too busy but being to busy for your kids is starting to sound like an excuse.

How do you track a gift in order to tax it? When someone donates a few million dollars to their alma mater or the Red Cross why would we tax it? Under the constitution we can't create a law for one person or organization. We can tax all entities that receive donations or none. That would mean that the doner would have to pay a tax when s/he earned or inheirited the money and pay another tax when they gave some of it to a relative or an orginazation. When someone donates land to a city for a right of way they would have to save enough money to pay the taxes on the gift.
Tax exempt, massive lobbying entity of congress, monopolizing the world, constantly building private Katholik colleges, child abuse scandals, unimaginably wealthy.

This is terrifying. I remember how much the church had control over me when I was five. I’m thankful all they did was treat me like a dog and left me outside.
The victims, overwhelmingly, experienced their abuse before systemic change was put into motion about 20 years ago,
So these victims are now mostly well into adulthood....I can only hope some of them got help early, but at least that they're seeking help now!

As for me, I was a little bit of a wild child apparently and would make dog noises because of those mental delays.

Honestly I feel I had a great time running around since it was an enclosed outdoor space for the kids so I wasn’t loose but I was still left outside and all alone.
And their words still hurt me, as well as not being able to color with the other kids really hurt as well.
It’s why I remember it very vividly still.
My parents got me out of the Sunday school church once they witnessed me secluded from the other kids.
Things like this kept happening to me when I was a child so I thought it was normal until I turned 9. Probably Realizing acting like a dog was not normal. But still doing it anyway because it was a comfort for me.
Make sure you don't sum this up as "some bad apples." It is THE SYSTEM that allows this and also attracts this.
Bad apples infect the whole barrel. Say, Priest X gets away with molesting boys, so Priest Y sees this, goes off and abuses girls, the cycle continues.

My father became a preacher in prison after what he did to 11 little girls and he was an atheist before, so religion really has little to do with it. It’s not just the Catholic Church. Two girls in my youth group were abused in a Christian church by the same man, instead of going to police they removed him from his position in the church and was told he was no longer welcome. Shortly after this event one of the girls families relocated because of the trauma.

From my understanding Confession only counts if you don't intend to ever do it again and there is contrition, that mean turning your self into the police and taking your lawful punishment.

There is 3 times more abuse in other denominations. The only reason why catholics get the hate is because every church is part of the catholic church. So if a priest sexually abuses a kid, the whole church is at fault. This is not the same with any other religion, or other christian denomination.
