I have a Suvgun for maybe three or more years and still love it. I like the longer distance between the tank and the front of the torch so I can get the flames down to were the charcoal is in my Green Egg. The only problem I had with the Suvgun is it doesn't stand on its own. But it does have a ring on the back that I just hook to the bottom of my side table with a J hook.
I feel like this was as deliberate as it was dramatic. If you have already decided your opinion before you start comparing... you'll find out that your right. Every time.
Do you disagree with my conclusion Michael?
100%
Mr Drama Queen
How the heck do you do a comparison and you completely ignore price?!
@@stevechance150 clearly biased.
I’d like to see a comparison that would include the $20 Harbor Freight sear gun vs the $100 Sear Pro vs the $180 GrillBlazer. For most users cost is the first consideration. Great video. As a SearPro user I thought your conclusions were mostly fair but your reluctance and refusal to use the SearPro to light charcoal was absurd.
Thanks Brad. It’s ok if you want to call me a sissy for that I guess 😅. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment I really appreciate it! -Al
@@BehindTheFoodTVThe propane tank on my sear pro gets cold when I light my Weber grill. Someone wasn't paying attention in high school chemistry or forgot PV = nRT.
Harbor Freight! lol.
I knew which one he picked before he even started testing.
I wasn't surprised either.
Testing something by using it in a way that the product labeling and warning labels and manual tell you EXPLICITLY not to use it is bizarre. Oh, gee, it's dangerous to do what they practically scream at you all over the packaging not to do.
I thought that as soon as he said he "had a great relationship" with the other product the fix was in.
Yes, but.. Not everyone reads the labels. And if you have kids at your house, they certainly wont be reading the labels.
@@MrFrmartin
Agree, but thats when you become the label and teach them to stay away from it because it’s dangerous.
@@831sabino very true, as a father of 4, i know this all too well
@@831sabino Yes! We need to stop relying on others to "fix stupid".
2 Sear Pro's + fuel for both for less than the price of one Su V gun was a NO BRAINER for me! I mainly use it to start the fire pit & the fireplace in the house which it works perfectly for, THANKS FOR THE REVIEW👍👍
There’s no argument the SearPro is more affordable. If you’re not worried about the safety features like I am (or less worried anyway) the SearPro is a solid choice and a good value. Thanks for watching.
Lighting a grill with the sear pro really isn't an issue. The flame is long enough where there really isn't a concern with the propane tank getting to close
Plus sear pro is way cheaper
An interesting comparison. But $100 difference is pretty big. And you used the SearPro in a manner that they guided you not to do (beyond 45 degree angle). Yes, many products (especially flame throwers) can be used in ways that make them dangerous. If it hurts when you do that, don't do that. I'm not convinced that it's worth an extra $100 to be safe if I choose to use the product in a way in which it was not intended.
I have the Grill and Su-V Gun, ordered them when he was still doing the KickStarter. Zero Regrets! They are simply awesome. The guy who made the SearPro is the same guy who made Guga's first torch oh so long ago, so actually he was ahead of Bob Healey , just took too long to get to market. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he came out first.
I'm with you - I love these things. It's disappointing that the SearPro guy didn't really innovate after taking so long to come to market. But that's ok - I love my GrillBlazer torches! Thanks for watching too. -Al
While I feel what you're saying about comfort @ 2:06 I think that might only be an issue if you were going to be holding it straight ahead. I mean you're going to be aiming down at the grill to begin with so that means you're fighting the weight of the Su-V gun instead of using the weight like the searpro. Just my thoughts though.
Hey there. Honestly it's like a well balanced knife. It just balances in your hand - you're not really pushing or pulling it, you're just aiming your wrist. I found with the SearPro that I was having to exert energy to keep it from just tipping all the way down. But to each his own right! Thanks for stopping by! -Al
My Sear pro does shut off when I tilt beyond 30 degrees.
Interesting. I wonder if they wised up and modified their design?
@@BehindTheFoodTV I’m not sure, but I actually find it a little challenging to make sure I don’t got too far.
I love my Grill Blazer and the only advantage from the other is it can stand on its own. One thing to note about the Grill Blazer is if your flame out put ever stops working correctly they sell a parts kit and once you swap out the parts they run new again. I don’t know if the other gun sells replacement parts for their gun.
That’s a great point Sarge. And it’s like $20 and so easy to do. Appreciate your watching and taking the time to comment!
I was fortunate to get my Grill Gun and Su-V Gun as an early Kickstarter supporter (I actually bought two of each and gave one pair to my son as a Christmas present in 2019. Both work exceptionally well, but will only work reliably when connected to a 20-lb propane tank with the hose from Grillblazer (I tried 3 or 4 others without success). But at today's price of $180 each or $346 for both, I wouldn't shell out that amount of money. I would continue to use my $35 piezo-ignition flamethrower from Harbor Freight that I've had since 2017. Lighting charcoal or searing meat, it does just as good a job.
Hi Max. If you're having problems with 1lb tanks, it could be a bad check-flow valve. They sell a kit to refurb your own for like $20 (I think my coupon code EMV10 works on that too).
besides searing my steaks, I also use the greenwood torch to burn weeds
Al, if you’re attaching the grill gun with a 8’ hose to a 20# propane tank do you still have issues with tilting the gun > 45 degrees and can you lay it down on a table without disconnecting?
I'm just wondering why you did not talk about hooking it up to a 20 gallon propane tank and the safety issue of standing back farther with the longer one
Hi Billy. I probably should have mentioned that the GrillBlazer flamethrowers kit comes with the hose so you can do that. Good catch. I think I did mention the safety issue of how far back the van is when lighting but I don’t think I mentioned that it’s safer to stand farther away too. Your observations are spot on. Did you get one of these?
I'm about to get my SU-V gun thanks to your review! My question is do you detach the gun from the propane tank each time after you used it? Or only when you have store it away for a long time?
Hey there! Yes I disconnect mine if I'm not going to use it for a few days. But of course I use it all the time........B-). Don't forget to use coupon code EMV10 to save a few $$ at checkout!
Great video. Thank you. I too am a family man and safety is definitely priority.
Thanks Alex. I hope I could help.
Biased before starting
Absolutely. But my suspicious were confirmed right?
@@BehindTheFoodTV Nope, just seemed like you were determined to place the Searpro 2nd
Totally get your position. But tell me what was wrong with the test?
I just bought an Anova Sous Vide machine and did my first steak searing on the Weber Summit. I can see the benefit to a torch and have been researching different ones. I'm happy I found this video because I now know the safety feature differences between the two products. I'm definitely going with the Su-Vgun. Thanks!
Congrats! And you’re making a great decision. Enjoy! Oh - and make sure you use coupon code EMV10 to save a few bucks!
What's your take? Which factor(s) are more important to you? Did you come to the same conclusion that I did?
I am concerned on why didn't you light the charcoal with the SearPro? The tank is outside of the grill, not in contact with the coals.
Thanks for the video....
Standing there holding it, it really just doesn't feel safe. I'm sure it would do a fine job and probably wouldn't blow up in your hands. I just feel safer not tempting fate like that. Thanks for watching!
Thanks 🙏 this was just what I needed to know 😄😄
So, the SearPro works and is perfect for the zombie apocalypse, got it.
Lol absolutely. It’s also very good I would imagine for torching mummies if they come after you.
SuV grill gun is on my Xmas list.
I hope you're on the good list this year! Tell Santa to use coupon code EMV10 so he can save some money!
Great video Al! And you’re right, safety is important, only takes a second for a child to get into trouble! Thank you!!
Thanks, Brian. I feel like every parent agrees with me.
"Only takes a second for a child to get into trouble"?? What idiot would put any of these tools in the hand of a child? These are TOOLS, not toys.
I was sold on the SearPro because of how compact it was. I also love that it doesn't need a stand to keep it from tipping over. After watching the safety comparison, not sure I'm so certain anymore. Thank you for video.
I’m so glad it helped Nathan! You’re going to be really happy with your new torch!
If you are concerned about it you can use hose with the big tank.
Great review. That fireball was nuts
Thanks James. Definitely one of those “Do not try this at home” moments!
Props to you Al on this comparison. Your focus on the safety features was particularly important. So many people have no clue how dangerous these torches can be. Safety = higher cost. Your life is worth more then saving a few bucks
Thanks Justin. I tried to keep this as unbiased as I could. I just can’t get over the safety issues. I appreciate your support! -Al
How about fuel usage? A good test would be to put a full tank on both of them, and turn them on full blast, timing how long to empty the tank.
You're right that would be a good test of which one outputs more fuel. I will try it I still have the SearPro sitting here.
I love my grill gun for the safety features and versatility (plus it looks cool😂). It's nice to see there are other good options out there though too. Great job highlighting the pros and cons of both of these tools👍
Thanks, Bobbi! We agree!
SueVide Gun keeps the fire farther from the propane tank.
Yes sir - either the Su-VGun or the GrillGun. Definitely safer products.
One man's safety features are another man's restriction. I'm not a snowflake. I can be safe with things on my own. I don't need someone to hold my hand.
Was thinking about getting the suv gun the price is high (although not really a big problem for me) I’m tryna see if I can get it discounted

5:50 Thanks for the experiment. That's a deal breaker for me 😅
Me too of course.
Great video, and very informational. Thanks for doing the side by side for someone on the fence with both of them!
Thanks, man! So which did you decide on?
@@BehindTheFoodTV Looks like the GrillBlazer is the smart choice to make for myself.
@@pigseyebbq I can't argue with that! Make sure you use coupon code EMV10 to save a few bucks!
I agree with you totally. #1 issue is safety!
Glad you agree!
How long do those tanks last? 2 steaks? 5? 10?
Good question. I seared 8 huge ribeyes last month and didn’t use up the tank. So at least that many. But…..there’s a hose that comes with the complete kit that allows you to hook it up to a 20lb tank. Which would pretty much sear a whole cow.
@@BehindTheFoodTV I just purchased a 10lb tank to use with my Buddy Heater. Can the Grill Blazer only be attached to a 20lb propane tank?
@@horacejones5226 Hi Horace - it depends on the connector. Here's the hose they sell to connect them. If you have a different connector you can probably buy an adapter: grillblazer.com/products/grillgun-8-inch-adapter-hose?ref=EMV10
You did not try the searpro on charcoal…
Correct - because it would not be safe.
@@BehindTheFoodTV then why would you even mention searpro on the subject?
@@BehindTheFoodTV i like sear pro better, its cheaper, the amount of heat is the same..
@@casmor08 totally get it. For me the safety features are too important to go the cheapest route - but not everyone prioritizes safety the same as me. Either way enjoy your torch - and come back and check out some of my other content!
ya lost this girl ... lol
Sorry this one wasn’t for you, Andrea. But next week’s video is going to be one of your favorites I promise…..and something you and Sam can make!
@@BehindTheFoodTV you get me on 95% of them, so you're doing better than Vegas, baby!
I'll still take the Sear Pro every time.
If it suits your needs, then you definitely should.
Your link costs $15 MORE than just going to the website with Grillblazer...
Hi Terry - they apply the coupon code in the cart when you use my link. It just looks more expensive until you're ready to check out.
I'm noticing way too many safety concerns, you are a grown man, deal with them! Those safety features are probably designed for kid use. Geez!
Lol please don’t let your kids use flamethrowers! If you don’t care about safety, you should definitely consider the cheaper less safe alternative.
I don't care if it works any better it's not as cool as a grill blaser
Well you know I agree with you Bill. I guess I should have said that!
Searpro✔️
Good to know that the Grill Gun really is all it's cracked up to be. Thanks for this super scientific test.
After watching you have fun with it when you visited and also k owing that you’re a great dad I knew you would agree!
I think I'd lean more towards the Su-V just for that flow check valve alone. I'd prioritize safety over heat efficiency, personally. I'm guessing I'd prefer the ergonomics of the Su-V as well, and between that and the added protection of the tank being kept that little bit further away, it's a bit of a winner for me. Thanks for going over all this Al!
Thanks, Susan! I don’t think I can tell you often enough how much I appreciate you!
The check valve can actually be a pain in the butt sometimes. With the wrong hose connected to a 20-lb propane tank, I couldn't get either my Su-V Gun or Grill Gun to work correctly. I had to spring for the higher priced hose from Grillblazer to get them to work properly 100% of the time. But both of these products are way overpriced. The $35 flamethrower with piezo igniter from Harbor Freight works just as well, maybe a little less convenient, but does double-duty as a weed destroyer, too.
Great comparison, Al. I agree, safety plus functionality.
Thanks Scott!
the new one has cut out all features to make a cheaper verison not good i am thinking
Eat more carnivores, I like the taste of all mammal meat! 😁
Hahaha welcome to the channel. Don't worry lots of mammal content here for you!
I should have bought the grill blazer product first. The sear pro has too many flaws. The biggest is that you cannot tilt at too steep of an angle.
Oh man that’s too bad you didn’t know. If you end up switching DM me on IG I will try to help you get a deal.
You cannot tilt the Grill Gun or Su-V Gun too far either or the check valve comes into play and the flame all but dies out.
