Joker is a masterclass in subverting expectations. And how you make a low budget comicbook film. WB didn't even want the film and slashed the budget and still went on to make Billion dollars!
Seriously, The Joker (55M budget) is good at EVERYTHING compared to Black Widow, a 200M budget film Black Widow doesn't have the time and care that the Joker has
I love the narrator, love this page , you make the mondays feels better. But I think it is time to shows more directors, and how they worked in their movies .. it may have some stuff we must know. MUCH LOVE FROM ALBANIA...(MY ENGLISH IS BAD SORRY)
The way this scene binds us in is extraordinary , the amount of tension that builds up can be felt from the moment he steps out of the curtain . Everyone saw it coming but still were taken aback when he shot Murray . Top notch acting and directing
The dancing scenes in this film were so beautiful to me. The dancing shows unity with the universe, peace. The tragedy and horror of this film is that the Joker only feels peace, feels like moving with the universe, when he is committing murder.
What makes a scene really great is let audience completely immersed into the sequence, normally when I watch movies sometimes I didnt really focus on the plot, but this scene makes me really care about the characters and the tension makes me on the edge of my seat.I felt empty when I finished the movie
But you have to admit, it's wrong if you root for a person like Arthur. Murray wasn't awful, come on. If you think so, you definetely don't know what an awful person looks like.
We all love movies, we all are being constantly transformed by cinema. I understand those people who say that this is a flawed movie, I even understand people when they say this is a mediocre movie or that they just didn't like it, I really do. But, I think most of the times - cinema lovers included - people fall too much in love of the theory behind storytelling, cinematography, lighting and/or blocking more than they should. I love, really love this movie. As flawed as any movie can be ( if you think so), this movie made me think, empathize and feel in a way that not any other movie did. And it doesn't matter if it is "The Joker", "Citizen Kane", "Sharknado" or "The Room", if it makes you do something, think somethink or feel something, it transformed you to the degree of provoking you to do said thing, and that's cinema at its best.
well said, good art make you think and inspire you in a good away. after watching Joker, if they don’t get the message which is pretty obvious, its not even smart to bully and rude to mentally ill people. this movie telling us that we should really notice and understand the personality between mentally ill person and normal person from there we should treat them differently and understanding them could make a different. some people can’t even notice and understand mentally ill person.
This movie ruined my Late Night talk show experience. I was literally terrified after the climax! It was absolutely riveting and spine chilling. What a masterpiece nonetheless.
A few of things: 1) I thought it was interesting Todd Phillip's chose to shoot in 1:85 versus 2:35. I understand why since Joker is a more intimate, up close and personal story vs. a sprawling epic. 2) Joker (the movie) is also a great example of how one can adapt past stories to fit modern day, or tell a new story altogether. Everyone behind the production states Joker is a retelling of Taxi Driver. That's why Robert Di Nero is in it as an obvious homage beyond being a great foil for Arthur. Most casual moviegoers think this kind of adaptation is lazy, but the reality is most stories and movies have been done before, but it's the execution that makes the great ones stand out. 3) This is the climax of the movie and even though it's been leading up to it, it still leaves you reeling because of how raw and unromanticized it is. This is because of the performances, editing, sound editing, shot composition, etc.
Saw this on the theaters when I was in 10th grade. I was hesitant at first to see this movie because of all the flak the media has been giving it. But of all odds, I did managed to sneak in to the theater even if I wasn't 18 then. And my God the tension I felt on this single scene is up right my list with the opening of Inglorious Basterds. Is he gonna kill himself? Is he gonna kill Murray? Is he gonna kill the audience? The sense of unpredictability, the fact that I can't predict what is certain, the sensation that as an Audience, I feel like I _know_ what to expect but in actuality don't know jackshit just proves that this is top tier filmmaking. Absolutely beautiful scene!!!
When Two Masterminds like Joker and Vito Corleone Goes For a Face to face Conversation is Something of a Tension. Both Will make an Offer,Both can't Refuse Respectively.
@@dusk6634 I agree with the first part, but I love all 3 films. It becomes funnier if you imagine De Niro is still playing an older Rupert Pupkin in Joker.
Never thought Joker would be a masterclass of filmmaking, but it is. This movie is a cinematic masterpiece of cinematography and editing. And this is a masterpiece of tension.
Joker was a message showing what happens when people don't understand each other why they can hate each other can be very horror as it is their vids on YT that talk about that.
Wow I love those Breaking the scenes videos, thanks! De Niro was a really good choice for the tv anchor. Thank you for this educational moment again :)
...and don't forget the sweet topping on a perfect cake: the protagonist displaces the antagonist with a perfectly timed headshot for the final payoff.
Agreed. I’ve seen and love both Taxi Driver and King of Comedy and Joker is actually quite different. I don’t get how people call it a full on ripoff, even if there are similarities
Either because we're so inundated with superhero movies that they thought this would be yet another one or maybe they think no one would take it seriously?
Wait, so why did they film that scene with such an oddly intense and uncomfortable side profile angle? They were filming Joker almost exactly into his side, like straight into his shoulder and maybe even a little behind it, I was wondering why? It was such an awkward and uncomfortable angle, was that the point? To increase the tension, maybe make it feel physically uncomfortable too?
Very useful video for my film analysis presentation! I am wondering why there isn't a shot of the audiences at all. Does it signify joker's alienation and dissociation from society? And also maybe if there's a cut to the audience then it would be a break in the tension of the scene?
I have to point out a mistake you made in the video, regarding Arthur's motives, or the trajectory he has been on, which changes during the climax of the film. Since he got the invite his plan was to kill himself live on TV. His original plan was to play along, ask Murray if he'd like to hear a joke, and then turn the gun on himself, we see him rehearse this in his livingroom. It's not until he sees "I hope my life makes more cents than my life" in his jokebook that he changes his mind, and decides that Murray should die instead. Hence his speech about being walked over and ignored in the streets. He didn't plan any of that.
I think the entrance to the polo towers parking lot by the garage is closed.when I walked thru it early the gate was closed so no one could come in that way.
