How can you make low budget filmmaking work? How can you make no-budget filmmaking work? What about no-budget filmmaking of a high budget scene? What's in the box?
In this video, we set out to recreate the ending scene in the David Fincher movie, Se7en. The Se7en ending scene has the famous Brad Pitt line, “What’s in the box?”. We put our guerilla filmmaking hats on to show you the filmmaking process. This DIY filmmaking video will show you how you don't need a big film budget to get a cinematic look. Here's our shopping cart list of film gear we used:
Black Magic Cinema Camera 4K | $75
Canon 16 - 35mm f/2.8 | $20
Canon 70 - 200mm f/2.8 | $20
DJI Mavic Pro 4K | $50
4' Rhino Slider | $20
Neewer 5 in 1 Reflector | $20
Dracast LED | $13
How can you apply low budget filmmaking to the Se7en ending scene that had a film budget in the tens of millions of dollars? How can you get the film look that David Fincher films have when you’re working on an ultra-low budget or even no-budget filmmaking. The DIY filmmaking process relies on calling in favors, but there are other guerrilla techniques that can make your micro-budget film work.
When you’re not spending millions to cast John Doe you can do more with your micro-budget. We walk you through the steps along with a film budget breakdown to show how we made the Se7en ending scene with low budget filmmaking in mind.
The Se7en movie ending took David Fincher weeks to film and hundreds of thousands of dollars, and even they didn’t get everything right from a video production process standpoint, but they made the "What' in the box?" scene work. We were able to film the Se7en ending for a fraction of the cost.
The end result: You will learn low budget filmmaking techniques that will help you take your micro-budget, ultra low budget, or even no-budget guerrilla film to the next level.

How close did we get to the original scene from Se7en? Let us know in the comments! 👇👇
According to me Edit, Shoot was 100% closed, but color was 85% closed and 15% was just sky and face and little bit of exposure
That was cool. It’s hard to capture the magic of 3 Hollywood caliber actors. But shot-shot, frame-frame that was pretty amazing.
It was pretty good!!! As a matter of fact, I liked some of your scenes better than the original ones!
You did really good that's my favorite part of SEVEN What's in the Box.
It is very good, but I don't understand why is exposure different on some shots? For example, you can see light on his jacket on 13:23, why is that? It wasn't needed. Also some shots too, they would be great, only if you lowered exposure a little bit.
My favourite unboxing video ever
Happy to oblige!😃
you should to try it in real life 👍👍

omg you're sick bro! lmao
the actor who played brad pitt’s character worked so well!!! it was amazing to watch his performance
True. Keeping in mind they didn't to much rehersals he was good.
Big shoes to fill but Yeah he did good.
I'm confused. You mean Brad Pitt ?!?
"The actor who played brad Pitts character" is... Brad Pitt... right?
Or was there a character in the movie called "brad pitt" and it was a different person playing him? I'm so confused
@@resevoirdog Pepega
@@CarloBarcial7 huh
The guy who played Brad Pitt played nice
Maaan, and the guy who played Kevin spacey, ufff, I do can see him playing a great villain in a big budget Hollywood movie
@@NetoSotoOficial those Thanos vibes
@@chriswaldz8351 hhhhahahhha you are right! I had not noticed it before. I am more the antihero type but hey thanos not so Bad (insert meme:not Bad)
The guy who played Brad Pitts character kind of sounds like Bill Burr not in a bad way either
@@NetoSotoOficial Ja He looks like Vin Disel
*rumors say that you can never really experience real pain, not until you see this scene*
Lol good one!
Sure, when most of a person's experiences are from looking at a computer screen or tv.
@@totoroutes5389 I think the reference flew over your head kind sir 😁😁😁
Let's give props to all the actors. The actor who played Pitt's part did not "act" you felt his heart sink into turmoil. Very difficult and he brought it. The other two delivered excellent restrained performances. Thank you StudioBinder
Please more videos like that !! (I'll appreciate a LOT if you remake the climax of fight club )
That would be amazing! It's my favourite movie!
This was amazing for the budget; geezus, I can’t imagine what this team would do with a budget of 33 million dollars.
Thank you! Hopefully we'll have that kind of budget at some point!😁
32.9 million of it will go to Brad pit and Morgan freeman.
That director with the Leather Jacket kind of looks alittle like chris evans he should do a scene From Captain America. Good video
i was just gonna say the same thing 'he is chris evans'
haha, good observation!
@@StudioBinder I swear I had to do a double take lol
Looks more like his role in Scott Pilgrim tbh
I thought the director was gonna play Brad's character
Great job! One thing I noticed Fincher does well is how he blocks his characters. All of his characters are looking just off-camera. The characters in the reshoot are looking more to the side of the camera and are not as intimate. The scene is so intense I really didn't notice the sun changing in the original. I look forward to more videos!
noticed the difference my self. and it made a big differnce in how we recieved the energy in those scenes. the idea was conveyed, but the intensity wasnt as impactful.
PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE THIS IS OUTSTANDING
Thank you! What other scenes would you want to see?
@@StudioBinder battel of wakanda 😂😂
@@StudioBinder I’d love “my name is Maximus” from gladiator
I would love to see a low budget version of the sloth scene
@@StudioBinder Walter Whites "I am the danger" speech from Breaking Bad
there’s just so much work that goes into a movie production even a few minutes is a very large investment in time and resources.
"Tell me whats in the box....please....nooo...please" .
Damn .one of the best. Nice vid bro.
12:30 there is something important you missed. Somerset and Mills are slightly displayed in a darker tone as Doe, to show that Doe is in complete control of the scene. However in your version, especially Somerset is brighter than in the original.
However, I think you got pretty close. Realy good work guys, chapeau!
Good catch, and thanks for watching!
@@StudioBinder Thank you for making these wonderful tools & videos!
5 bucks for a box? You definitely blew the budget on that particular item
Fun idea - great execution! (pun intended)
The way the Summerset actor runs is one of the strangest things I’ve seen.
XD haven't you watched "The Irishman"?? XD
Or Nick Fury in Captain Marvel?
@@ericjourdain892 Or Brie Larson in Captain Marvel?
@@AkamatsuCreative Oh I didn't notice that 😀
@@ericjourdain892 Very unsettling, lol.
Amazing job... But i think the budget would have been higher, if you had included food, crew x hours, cast, transportation, bathroom facilities...
Not to mention the cost of studio binder....
Лео Молина Лопез yep he lied to us lol
Not to mention all he had to do was copy the scenes and yet he still didn’t his schedule
@@jcmax200 You don't have to use Studio Binder, you can use other software such as Celtx, Final Draft, WriterDuet.
Besides Studio Binder already has a free version available.
@@Jc-si6pj Yeah, but he did such a great job considering the limitations.
U did not seem to have sacrificed anything buddy! This was as great as the original one! Genuinely! It's challenging to make something original but even more to mimic something! And what u did single-handedly. I am bowing down and saluting man! Lighting, cinematography, casting everything was top notch! Inspiring tutorial! I am applauding!
This is one of your best videos yet! More of these will be very appreciated.
This was brilliant, insightful and inspiring! Given how little it took to recreate this, and give me optimism about shooting high quality footage for cheap without sacrificing that cinematic look. Thank you for this and if you ever need an actor, PA, etc based in LA then please let me know. Happy to say thank you by lending a free hand in future productions. Keep making awesome work, cheers! 🙌🏼💪🏼
We're glad you enjoyed it! What scene would you like to recreate given the chance? We'll keep you in mind for other productions!
StudioBinder huge Finches fan also so anything from his filmography would be amazing, especially from Social Network like when Edwardo discovers his shares diluted and confronts Mark during the 1 million party. Also, the inciting incident scene in Mission Impossible when Kitrich suspects Ethan as the mole in Prague and he blows the fish tank to escape. Both are high on my list 👌🏼🙌🏼
Loved it! NICE actors and photography too!
I love this recreation series, pls keep it going
Wow !! Do more videos like this, i learned so much! This is like a film school for sure, and maybe next time you should show the editing process, how to edit audio and etc. it would help so much
You guys are just AWESOME. Keep it going!

This was very exciting to watch! I loved this challenge. You did great! Especially that you used an older BMCC 4k to show you can spend less and still achieve a great look!
Woah, fantastic work! Well done 👏👏
Keep these videos coming. They’re fantastic
We have more on the way, stay tuned!
Ohh just wow in one word to describe... It's so meticulously done with tiny budget... Hats off 👍
Wow!! This is a BRILLIANT reproduction. Especially the tone and texture are fantastic, at times virtually indistinguishable from the original! Well done, dude!
That was an excellent reenactment! One of my favorites as well. I think I've seen it probably 20 times.
That was amazing. Great job. Thank you for inspiring us.
This taught me how much planning and money and scheduling and just how much work goes in making a 2-minute scene.
This has to be one of the best videos I've seen. Nice work, Chris Evans.
Awesome Work bro
Really appreciate your talent n Art...keep making video's like this ...amazing amazing and amazing

Great job! Very inspiring.
We're glad you enjoyed it! What scene would you like to recreate?
Great work, guys! And your studiobinder tool looks very promising. Thanks for this awesome videi
We're glad you enjoyed it! Would you have done anything differently?
@@StudioBinder Good question. I think you really nailed it. Maybe I would have tried a gimbal instead of the slider to have more space.
And it's always funny to see how a typical shooting starts and ends. Film crews take an enormous amount of time to discuss and prepare the first shots of the day. The last ones are always filmed under time pressure and in a total rush under severe conditions ;-) happened to me several times in the exact same way :-)
That was awesome!
Wow .. the acting and the directing were incredible 🔥🖤
Love this
this is amazing omg
You guys can make a series named " alternate endings" and shot famous climax scenes in with different angle. ❤️
Dope vid, keep up the good work
Thank you!
Nicely done. Good job 👍
awesome work!!!
Love these How-to's, BTS and video essays. StudioBinder is an absolute treasure trove for filmmmakers and enthusiasts. 100% fan. One thing. when people do these side-by-side vids, I think it is easier to follow if they were sequential rather than stacked. I see many of these stack-style side-by-sides lately, and for still photos, that's fine. But no one can watch 2 different moving images at the same time, with any attention to detail. Just a suggestion- scene by scene, 3-5 seconds each. (Of course I know we can pause and go back/forward). Just my 2 cents. Great stuff, as usual.
great idea! and well done
Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed it. Would you have done anything differently?
