Hurom Slow Juicer vs. KitchenAid Juicer and Sauce Attachment vs. Vitamix

  • I didn't edit out the process once things got rolling so you'll have to fast forward through. The video cuts out at one point because memory card ran out around the time that the KitchenAid got jammed. Because it's designed like a food processor on top, sometimes a little bit of something will plug up against the blade. I had to shut it down and twist the top off to remove the piece of carrot; then it worked again. I ended up taking the KitchenAid attachment back to the store and sticking with the Hurom. The juice and operation are the smoothest. I use my Vitamix most often, but not for juicing.

    Thanks for the test you ran. I'm thinking of buying a slow juicer and I thought if a Vitamix could do the trick. Since I have a KitchenAid maybe an attachment would do good. Now I know, thanks for the film, what to look for. A proper slow juicer and not something in between. Thanks! //Gisela, Sweden

    Great video. I own the 750 vitamix and love it going for 3 years now..... never have I experience what happened on the video.... idk maybe it was a one time thing that happen to be captured or your lack of knowledge made it look bad and it's not. I love smoothies in it. for juicing (less thickness in my drinks) I have a Hurom got it six months ago I love that awesome machine as well.

      I LOVE my Vitamix. I was showing the example of people who want to make juice in it. You retain the fiber then go through an extra step of straining the pulp out. It's not the ideal use of the machine but could work in a pinch.
      Do you ever make nut milk? I know it can be made in my Vitamix or Hurom but I've never tried to figure out which is easier.
      The point of this video was to show my preference for the Hurom as a juicer, not to knock my amazing Vitamix!

    I’m a juicer and I can plainly see that that Kitchenaid attachment is a mess. Buy an old Acme juicer. They can juice a picnic table in 4min, and they come with paper liners that make cleaning faster and easier than any other juicer I’ve ever seen.

    Thanks for video and thanks for explanation in the description box.
    I thought it seemed strange the vid suddenly stopped.
    I just bought the knock OFF juicer called "Kulinar" like the huron you have to save money. I been putting it through a pretty good workout over the past couple weeks with carrots, celery, apples with seeds and peelings, oranges with peeling but cut to fit in tube, lemons with peeling and seeds but cut and so far its doing a good job. Other videos say for every pound of fruit or vegetable should produce 8 to 10 ounces of juice and thats what im getting. Pulp is what some call dry because you can squeeze and no liquid comes from it. I strain it and very very little pulp is in the juice.
    Hopefully it continues working like this for at least a couple year's. I paid $128. after tax in Canada

      I know what you mean, i bought a knock on brand "kulinar" and recorded 3 times and then i downloaded to my laptop to kearn my audio wasnt working. Im very weak after 4 heart attacks so I find it hard pushing the auger in, and really really hard pulling it out so i decided to try the breville jl98xl and so it works really well and the oulp comes out dryer and fluffy like. I haven't had to strain anything, zero pulo.
      I tried carrots appkes oranges, one not oeeled and the juice tastes like the peeling. Then i peeked next one it was lije night and day, it was delicious.i also done whole celery sticks red cabbage, i think thats all so far. The nouse dosent bother me, its only on a couple min at the time. It pulls food done so fast and juices it oerfectly then shut it down til next item is ready. I really dont know what all the fuss is about with the noise.

    I own a Vitamix. It's a Blender, not a juicer and certainly not for cold-pressed juicing. Incidentally, your feature shows the KitchenAid running at speed just like the Vitamix. Cold-pressed juicers are run slowly to extract the most from the juice without the centrifugal 'burning' of the nutrients contained in the vegetables and fruits. An interesting comparison......

    • @nicolekosiba9824
      @nicolekosiba9824  8 років тому +4

      That was my whole point in doing this. That juice recipe actually came straight from the Vitamix book that came with it. I wanted to show how much better a slow juicer works.
      The speed at which I ran the KitchenAid accessory is speed 10 which follows the instructions. I think it's because there is a food processor blade first so you have to have the food moving fast enough for that blade to work. I've since seen it done at a slower speed but I returned mine so I can't comment from personal experience.
      At the time I made this the KitchenAid accessory was brand new and there were no videos or reviews available so I thought a comparison would be helpful. I had been researching and saw a lot of people asking if they could use their Vitamix as a juicer. It bothers me that Vitamix tries to claim "yes" to everything. As much as I wish one appliance could do it all, I have a separate blender, mixer, juicer, and food processor.

      2 comments:
      1) The KitchenAide machine slowed down because its a high torque electric motor that draws a lot of current/Electricity. So KitchenAid designed in load sensors. So it starts out with minimum electrical current until there is need for additional Torque. So the Machine is not pulling full "Juice" from the electrical socket at all times.
      2) Even though KitchenAide instructions say run at 10spd, I saw other reviews that suggested 6spd. It does slow down the process, but pulp is much dryer and Juice is cleaner.
      Thanks for your review !

      @vecna7904 6 років тому

      The KitchenAid is on far too high; should be at between 4-6, not 10. And as it looked at the end, the amount of juice was exactly the same for both juicers. So if in fact you put in the exact same ingredients, the moisture content of the pulp wouldn’t matter, as the result was the same. But I’m thinking you may have actually put more into the KA than the other.

      Mac Dawg the kitchenaid looks like a flip up head machine, those are smaller and less powerful than the bowl lift, a larger machine probably won't slow down, I purchased the 6500 to avoid that problem

    Your video showed you putting fruit and vegetables in the Vitamix without any liquid. You need to add a bit of liquid when using the Vitamix. It is an amazing machine and I have had three over the past 20 years. None of them broke, I just have two homes and then purchased a commercial one as well. You need to follow the instructions on how to load it, but it is by far the easiest and fastest way to get your daily nutrients. The blade is built in so as far as cleaning, just squirt a drop or two of dishwashing liquid in the container after you empty the juice, put the lid on and pulse a few times. That's it -- about 5 seconds to clean it and you are done! I also have a Green Machine for juicing, but it seems like it takes 15 minutes to clean and because of the assembly and cleaning time, I stopped using it. With the Vitamix you just drop the ingredients in, turn it on and you are done. You can also add things like protein powder, flaxseeds, chia, etc. The most important part of juicing or blending is to actually use your machine, so with a machine that doesn't need pieces cut into tiny cubes, blends quickly, and keeps the fibre in, Vitamix is the way to go for everyday nutrition if your budget or counter space allows only one appliance.

      I did actually note that I started with a half cup of water. The recipe I used was straight from the book that came with my Vitamix. I use my Vitamix for almost everything under the sun but despite their claims, you cannot make “juice” without a lot of extra effort to remove the pulp. It’s amazing for smoothies and sauces and nut butters and sorbet, etc. and as you mentioned so easy to clean. I love my Vitamix. I just don’t think it’s a substitute for a juicer.

    The kitchen attachment is terrible. I returned it the second day that I had it. The lid vibrates open, it creaks and sounds like it’s going to break, and it will overheat and stall your mixer motor. I’m positive that it would have burnt out my motor and killed my mixer, if I would have kept it. I expected way more for 160+ dollars. Save yourself the trouble and don’t even bother.

      Takita Mason I’m sorry it’s been a long time since I used it! If I recall correctly you have to get the auger well snapped into the basket. It was kind of hard to click in. Then the slicer disc lays on top and that’ll allow the lid to properly seal.

      +William Hernandez For the price the KitchenAid attachment did the job and offers the benefit of not having a whole separate device, but I do think a truly avid juicer would prefer the Hurom or other standalone juicer. On the other hand, the Kitchenaid is faster and takes less prep work, and it's dishwasher safe. It also has the ability to make thicker sauces. It does jam up sometimes (which happened as the video cut out) but it's an easy fix! It's so nice to be able to make your own juice at home and there are many types of great juicers to choose from :)

      Susann Minall I didn’t try that. I believe it would be very similar to a food mill but without having to manually turn the crank. My concern with the kitchen aid would be if anything clogged up the blade part on the kitchenaid because I’m not sure how that would handle softer items. I only ever tried the speed instructed for this accessory but if I still had it I would play around with the lower speeds.

      I don't believe it's advertised as a "slow" juicer, but has the same style auger as the Hurom does. I set the speed according to the juicer accessory's instructions which is definitely fast at 10 like they recommend.

    Mi experiencia con este extractor no es nada buena, el espiral se llena de gabazo por la parte de adentro, el filtro de pulpa ligera y todo el tazón retienen tanto vegetal-fruta (que no muelen) que termina atorándose y no te deja abrirlo, cuando logras abrirlo hay tanto alimento aquí que tu fregador se tata y no deja que corra el agua, tienes que estarlo limpiando de todo el alimento que contenía el tazón para que pueda correr el agua, y tu pierdes ahí vegetales y frutas que no te tritura el aparato; un empaque negro que contiene el tazón deja salir el jugo cuando esto no debería ocurrir; el filtro para espuma requiere que se limpie con frecuencia antes de que tu logres un litro de jugo, dado que se llena de pulpa cuando se supone que este solo es para la espuma y que por este orificio no debería salir pulpa (usando el filtro para pulpa ligera) ; las hojas verdes y apio es lo que más le resulta complicado al aparto, batalla para triturarlas tanto que lo deja atascado y no lo puedes abrir
    Por si esto fuera poco KitchenAid no me ha respondido como correspondiera ante un aparato que no cumple lo que ofrece, Cimaco la tienda donde lo compre solo me da atole con el dedo y no se compromete a dar una respuesta

    • @nicolekosiba9824
      @nicolekosiba9824  8 років тому

      +Bill Yak I saw a video using a slower speed after I returned mine, so I never got a chance to try. The manual definitely states speed 10. Even at that speed, it seems like a slower process than the slow juicer because each thing you feed through has to go through a blade that cuts it into about 1/4" pieces before it gets to the auger. It's like using a food processor slicing blade beforehand. The Hurom operates at a slower speed but powers through larger pieces, making the overall process seem smoother.

      Nope! I bought both myself.
      You don’t push the food down in the Kitchen Aid because unlike the Hurom, there is an additional blade that slices the food first. So you just drop in bigger pieces and let it do its thing.
      I will say that I use my KitchenAid for many things and if I had to choose between my mixer and my juicer I’d pick my mixer hands down. I’d hate to bake without it. I like many of the attachments but just not this juicer one.

      +min baraka I don't speak French too well but I believe you're asking for a recommendation on a juicer that makes good quality fruit and vegetable juice. I'm not sure if you call all juicers "centrifugeuse" but you will find many videos comparing Centrifuge style juicers to the slow juicers which use a masticating technique like this one. They slowly chew down the vegetables instead of spinning/shredding them which uses less heat in the process. This supposedly produces higher quality juice and also is more effective at juicing leafy greens. I highly recommend this one!

    you obviously has two different size veggies and fruits for each machine. not a fair comparable video. Bias

    • @nicolekosiba9824
      @nicolekosiba9824  8 років тому +6

      With the KitchenAid attachment the length of each piece does not matter. Unlike the Hurom, the KitchenAid has a food processor-like slicing blade so it actually does the cutting for you. That is part of the claimed benefit. The Hurom slow juicer (and any other slow juicer I've seen) has an open chute with no blade and requires you to do extra prep work and cut into 2 inch pieces. It is not biased but is actually comparable because I used each machine as directed in the instructions. You can cut the pieces smaller for the KitchenAid but it would be a waste of time since it cuts everything into about 1/4" pieces as it goes.

    • @avarshney
      @avarshney 6 років тому +2

      It is biased. 1. Use 4-6 speed setting (you can use 2 too) for dryer setting. and if you press gently, with abopve setting, the fiber comes out way finer than shown in video.
