Here’s what I’m going to cover in this video:
    • Airbrushing process walkthrough for efficient colour switching in the graffiti tower project.
    • Visits to hobby shops and model railroad shows.
    • Review of the Rapido Amtrak N Scale Turboliner.
    • Plans for future projects, including fantasy paint schemes.
    Longer Description:
Hey everyone, it's me again with the latest from March 2024. In this video, I'll walk you through my airbrushing process, showing you how I switch colours efficiently for my graffiti tower project. We'll also take a ride to some hobby shops and model railroad shows, like Otter Valley Railroad and the Kitchener Model Railroad Show. I'll give you my honest review of the Rapido N Scale Turboliner and share my plans for future projects, including some fantasy paint schemes. Stick around for a relaxed chat about what's been happening in my N Scale world of modelling and railroading. Let's dive in!
If you found this video intriguing, consider subscribing for more content as I lean into creating more dystopian scale models. I'm figuring a lot of this out along the way, so it's always nice to have you join me on the journey and offer support, but more importantly, feedback! / @nscaledystopia

Nice haul, Denny. Sorry I missed you at the show. I ran into the big yellow bag, toting Dave. He is quite a character.

Not sure if Turboliners were used on the Maple Leaf, but Amtrak used them a lot on Empire Service, so it's certainly plausible. Great video!

A part of me would love to collect that Rapido Turboliner set just because it's an awesome set! It may not be prototypical for railroad I wanna build but it'd make a fine addition to any model railroad collection!

I would love to see some more custom painting! It would absolutely not surprise me if the sign was stolen, although if it helps your conscience, it may have been taken down already and someone grabbed it before it got thrown out.

The Turboliners did serve on the Maple Leaf route to Toronto for a number of years.

Great video! You are so fortunate! I model a railroad that has been consumed in mega mergers. It is very hard to find diesel loco’s without having to paint and decal everything. The consultation is that the paint scheme I am most familiar with is simple (gray with yellow ends) then add the road name.
Yes I would be interested to see any techniques I don’t know about.
    Keep the videos coming!

The KATO North Pole Christmas train sets will have the F40PH locomotive and passenger cars. I have the set and it performs really well. Mentioning this for your custom repaint idea. I think it will go well with your passenger train fleet.

Rohr Turboliners were used on the Adirondack between Montreal and New York City after the D&H PA1's, starting in the late seventies.

I have had a Badger airbrush for a few years. Bought 2 cheap never heard of ones off of amazoon recently.
With "needle juice" (lube) the cheap ones run just as well as the Badger. One small drop on the bottom of the trigger (for the needle valve seat), one small drop on all threaded parts of the nozzle assembly, one small drop on the needle itself. The needle packing bearing inside will thank you.
You feel it's resistance when the needle passes through it. Spin the needle around in there. All of these things getting a drop of airbrush lube has greatly improved the overall seal and performance of my one semi decent and 2 cheapo airb's.

The needle juice - amazing. I'll absolutely take this hint to heart.

Not 100% positive, but I believe the Turboliner ran between NYC and Montreal in the early-mid 1970s. In fact, you can see it in action towards the end of the movie "The Seven Ups," where Roy Scheider is chasing the bad guys along the tracks on the upper west side of Manhattan. Great modeling!

That... is a lot of stencils! I'm not sure I could tackle that Herculean task! The Graffiti Tower blocks look fantastic. Having been inspired by your work to build my own dystopian n-gauge shunting layout (just a lil inglenook/shelf layout, no space for anything else) using a Kato 11-105 chassis with a custom body from Budget Model Railways, I'm down to see any custom/fantasy paint schemes you want to try!

Dear N Scale Dystopia, very cool and interesting tip on how to quickly change the paint in the airbrush! Love the way you did the graffiti project. Do agree on what you said on the window frames in your previous vid. They’re rather pronounced, maybe a bit out of scale. On the true to scale examples you showed, I didn’t notice any windows being tagged. Just for the character of the high rise models you used, the ‘natural’ location for the tags is indeed around the balconies, because how else could and would the artists be able to access the ‘flat’ surfaces of the models. This would only have been possible if you had considered to kitbash the balconies, or architectural feature around the building on which the taggers could have gained access to those parts of the walls. However, that would have been a project in itself. Although I like the balconies as they are, I humbly think a glazed fence would have made a difference. Must add there that to make to scene believable, you would still need the upper railing of the balcony fences. Which in turn still would take away a bit of the view on the tags. All that said, the main thing is that these buildings look great.
Awesome that you acquired the RTL-Turboliner, awesome train, great model by Rapido, beautiful addition to the layout.
Kinda interesting you mentioned adding the Ontario Northland paint scheme to your roster. Definitely am looking forward to seeing the results, whether in the paint booth, or on the layout.
One more addition on the highrise kits. Do like these kits, don’t get me wrong, especially for their price, quality and design. Nevertheless, to me they sort of represent the look of the East-German Plattenbau style. Just going back on my posterity lane, from when I visited Toronto years ago, I do remember seeing more high rises with exterior cladding. Even apartment blocks. Think that would be an interesting idea to see added to some of the kits you’re planning to build. Also, for the dystopian character, because it allows for further exploration of disrepair, with parts of outer wall cladding removed, fallen off, cracked, or definitely in need of maintenance. Cheerio

I truly appreciate such a detailed comment. I'm smitten with the East-German Plattenbau style - brutalist architecture so I 'think' I'll tend to lean into buildings that represent this - but your point on the cladding is well taken.
