Danny. I've gone through this whole Process with Will. You're in good hands, feel free to ask me any questions. I have done the seals before. Just be patient with the process and you can get it done.
The knock sensor in a motor can not differentiate from internal knock or external. It’s a simple single wire microphone basically. Engine movement (causing the mount to bottom out) from a worn RMM can be picked up as knock.
This is why Will has a disclaimer saying you need to make sure your car is healthy before purchasing the tune. Such as a fresh oil change, 1 step colder spark plugs gapped at a specific gap. Check for boost leaks, exhaust leaks, supporting modds for what your trying to do then once you have done all that then buy the tune and the process is very simple. I am tuned by Will as well and he is awesome and you are in great hands. He turned my speed into a flat out monster! Just dot you i's and cross all your t's bro.. Good luck
I am tuned by will at PD and my car is fully bolted and i was fully tuned on 91 within 2 weeks. Will is seriously the best wouldn't doubt his expertise.
Atleast the guy helped you out on parts that needed to be replaced anyways. In a way he figured it out for you when he didnt have to. I'm saying it like this because I've experienced services turning me down because I wasnt prepared not knowing any better. Sounds cool that the guy was Patient enough to help you. Thanks for sharing the video.
The knock issues could be from the octane rating in the Cali gas plus the high amount of boost and or not getting enough fuel. He should be able to pull timing in order to prevent knock. Have you tried less boost and then working your way back up?
I'm in the process of getting my 2003 Wrx tunes right now. As expected there are problems... Nothing major, however I need to get a boost controller and a new bov. Plus a compression test since I haven't had the car for long. I came in planing to spend $500 maximum. I'm looking at around $1250 now
Run higher octane, get a front mount, heat wrap stuff. That will help prevent knock. Motor mount won't help knock. You need to ether up the octane, or lower intake temps. Or lower the boost. Could also have a bad or failing sensor.
Don't worry about it man, there's always going to be issues with a car specially once you start doing things to them. You gotta Pay to Play. Did you check if the plugs are gaped correctly? and also try cleaning the dirt off the MAF on the intake that should definitely help.
Dood took the words outta my mouth..This is nuthn bruh. You gotta Pay 2 Play! Im about $8000 into my build on my 16 Ecoboost Mustang and still not done! Good video and very honest advise . For those who has limited funds , like they say ... You have to pay to play . if anything put it back on stock map , do more research give yourself a break and enjoy your very nice ride .
E-tune is the word you are looking for. Second thing is the tuner sends you a base map and you send him logs. I personally went with SnailD tune and had great results but that's on my car. Every car wont be the same though.
You should do more explanation videos, it helps and gives a bit more reality knowledge about things. At least you talk about cars, I lost hope for TJ. It's not even cars anymore, just daily things he does that we all do.
That's kind of how things go with UA-camrs. Once you make it a little too big, your obligations just grow too big to do the simple hands-on stuff. At least TJ isn't like SmurfinWRX though. I still support TJ.
The Mazdaspeed is a funky car. I had one. This process is 100% normal from a second hand MS3. Injector seals are not that bad of a install if you have friends. Hit up your local Mazdaspeed group.
I own an focus st3 and have gone through a similar process if you dont want to mess around leave it stock lol simple as that as soon as you start you literally cannot stop theres always something to be done
Okay I want to tune my car after I turbo it, but I can’t find anything online about tunes or etunes or anything. Google thinks “tune” only means car upgrades

Pull timing and lower boost see if the knock goes away, if so then it's real knock. or is the tuner chasing phantom knock as he asked you to replace an engine mount, i assume he believes it is phantom knock? Injector seals are the injectors leaking and it's leaning out? 20 psi is quite high on 91 fuel.
you are prob better off taking it to a shop that can inspect and look at your car before tuning than doing e tuning services. i mean e tuning is cheaper but if no initial inspection is done, you run more into issues as the remote tuner has no visuals on your car.
All these supporting mods mentioned to make any significant power is well known within the community and all over forums and FB pages. It's like how you need hpfp upgrade before tuning anything on the gen 2.
did you try Denso Iridium Power Spark Plugs ITV22. there a step colder than stock. look on the speed forums for the gap you need. or even ask will for what's the best gap to run.
Damn that sucks you ran into all those issues with your speed3. Will at PD did a great job with my etune on 91 and E85. I didn't have any issues and he was fast emailing me. But I'm sure he is too busy to get it done in one week. I wouldn't want my tuner rushing my tune. Let him take his time. Hopefully your tune will be done soon. What city in California do you live in?
OverKnight 52 Oh I already find StandAlone ECU on my MazdaTurbo 3(Not Speed3 it’s normal 3) and Subaru GT 500HP. I upload video of my Subaru build. And I haven’t upload the MazdaTurbo yet. It’s dope! My dream came the true.

Ehm , replacing spark plugs, seals, mounts etc is not a problem you run into when tuning your car. That IS tuning your car. you really thought I'll reflash my ecu for a few bucks and a week later I have a tuned car?
I’m going to pro tune my wax for 800 next week does that price sound about right? What he is going through in this video is what I’m dealing with. Keeps saying my parts are a pain in the ass and he wants me to take parts off and shit so pro tune it is
Got my 2002 GTP tuned on e85 and paid 230 for the tune plus 100 for plugs and wires, 120 for a new MAF sensor and then 40 for a new o2 sensor. Wish This video would have been out before I got it tuned!
Yep that's why I'm staying away from engine mods while I'm in college. Sucks because my car requires a standalone ECU to do any proper tuning since the factory ECU will overwrite anything you do. So no turbo for me yet haha.
Oh and injector seals aren't that bad lol.... Many people on the page could help, including some solo mechanics we have in the area that'll hook it up a lot more than just a random shop that doesn't know our platform.
Consider back up money for a new motor as a potential issue warranty wont cover when tuned. Also consider fuel quality in your area. I data logged several times in my 12' stang gt and couldn't get a clean log without timing pull unless I ran pure race gas.. I had an 07 speed 3 too. was a fun little car.
This kinda makes it intimidating. I have no clue what to even do to get a car tuned or what I would need. I'm a simple guy, I sit behind wheel and steer. That's all. I don't know crap. Been doing tons of research for months though.
im in the same situation. however i bought my tune with will knowing i wouldnt avtually be tuning yet. im waiting on two more motor mounts before i even attempt logs. goos luck man. once you can start doing solid logs itll be tuned fast
Knock is bad. From Wiki Knocking (also knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines occurs when combustion of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder does not start off correctly in response to ignition by the spark plug, but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion front. This can cause your motor to blow up.
I got my torrent tuned and I had to replace the spark plugs and the rear motor mount and I was okay after that. I was in shock to be completely honest with you. Here in Canada it cost me around $750 + shop hours cause I got it dyno tuned. So around $1000 which is crap but at least it's done.
That's nightmarish lol thanks for letting us know. I pretty much fear even getting a base tune from the tuner I want. I just pray I don't have that kind of issue. I'm Def poor lol so I can't do that shit
I'm pretty sure it's the gas bro. I have a 2011 speed 3 and tuned by freektune. I had 0 issues. I changed my plugs after and never had any issues while tuning
sounds like the Mazda needs more maintenance done than tuning. but you'll never know until you start modding. I had to have my vvt done first thing I got my mazda.
I also got what I paid for. I had to also replace the plugs, thermostat, starter, battery, some vacuum parts. all of my suspension needed replaced endlinks, bushings, struts and Springs and top hats. idler pulley and tensioner pulley. but only thing I haven't done yet is get my valves cleaned and pcv changed.
225$ for my legacy gt road tune on 93. from 14 psi to 16.5 lbs of boost on the stock turbo built internals. 100 for my future retunes once the parts come in.
It might just be the quality of the gas. Here in Florida we have 93 which is good. But maybe could just be the quality/octane of gas. E85 = higher octane = less knock. Maybe ask your tuner to give you a base map for a E85 mix tune. Many people do 30 % or 50% e85 mixed with 91/93 fuel. I currently have my MS3 on a 50% mix with 93 at 21 lbs of boost and the higher octane of the E85 helps a lot to keep the knock down. I'm no expert but Just trying to help.
Not uncommon Bro. One thing to consider is getting the Damond Motorsports Stage 3 Oil Catch cans; your building up a lot of pressure in the crank case when you increase boost and it has to vent somewhere, otherwise, your going to possibly blow out your seals. This tuning stuff as you know, is serious and expensive. Also a good passenger Motor mount is considered too. I braced the crap out of my MS3 before I started adding HP. Your doing good Danny for all your going through, hang in there and thank you for be a voice for the MS3 family! 💪😎🏎🏎🏎🏁
Make sure that your spark plugs are gapped to spec with a spark plug gapper. You should be good but I had bad experience where I had two spark plugs that had a bigger gap then the rest.
Glad you made this video! Most always forget that sometimes car builds aren't always a breeze. Always expect the unexpected, like a driveshaft almost coming all the way off on the highway (my buddies F100).
Paid 750$ for a dyno tune and the contract straight out said they werent responsible for faulty parts & they will not tune a sick engine. I did my car fairly new so i was good. Also I did an aos and turbo intake ,ebcs just before the tune so Im at 1700$ out the door.
p.s when you go to an idiot parts store you have the announce mazda SPEED!!! 3 there dumb as fuck when I bought my car the rear disc were solid and they came from the factory ventilated they threw cheap mazda 3 brakes on it. scumbags
Ryan Rohauer two things first of all. You shoulda done the work yourself then. Also I'm assuming you probably didn't get to see the parts before they went on but if you could have seen them then you shoulda have checked the parts lmao can't put all the blame on other people.
Did you properly gap the plugs to the recommended spec for your application on top of that I wouldn't recommend doing mail order tunes most dyno shops charge on average $500 for your initial tune and that helps being that you're doing it in person which can account for ambient temp and sea level in your area... also it cost a lot of money to properly setup and tune a modified vehicle I see a lot of UA-camrs doing mail order tunes or even dyno tunes without doing the proper preliminary repairs and upgrades like your injector seals which may even take special tools to remove and install the injectors and possibly need to resize the seals with that said it should be no surprise that it is costing this much time and money I feel like too many people out there think there is a easy and cheap way to do this, there is not it's an expensive hobby!
Always keep in mind there are 3 components to every build. Fast, Cheap, and Reliable. You can pick two of those.

Wish I could have seen more of car but yea cool info
1000 thats cheap some of us have to buy aftermarket ecus 1500 plus just for ecu then tuning on top etc
probably just saved me from a world of head ache 😂
Going fast. And making power is not cheap
Idk what you expected. Ive spent $2500 worth of tuning and replacing parts failing in the dyno. All part of the fun i guess
thats, being....dumb Auto correct on phone....😠
yo Danny live near oceanside
Forgot, had ro do a o2 sensor with the car on the dyno. Subie o2 sensors are not cheap. Lol
get a front mount intercooler that knocking will fuck shit up
p.s when you go to an idiot parts store you have the announce mazda SPEED!!!
Ayyyee sick songs and video danny😏
yeeeee
Danny Cou
Your that guy who buys the biggest eBay turbo puts it on and is confused why your speed doesn’t sound like a 2J .
So we just gonna ignore the tpain song and the squatting at the end 😂😂
