Bonamassa changed my life with this video of slide and Mountain Time on Rockpalast 17 years ago. It has been a joy ever since. KEEP THE BLUES ALIVE AND BRING BACK "The Music of the 60s and 70s.... Long live Classic Rock so we can Honor Hendrix and Clapton and give Back to BB King, Buddy Guy, Freddie and Albert King to Where it all started Robert Johnson at the Crossroad!!!!!! Long live the BLUES!!!!!!
haha it's just a matter of taste, I like Joe but in my opinion he's doing too much guitar gimmicks, I'd rather prefer the guitar feeling of Hendrix or Clapton. But he's an incerdible guitarist anyway, love this version of The River
dalexeiblues he is playing beyond the capabilities of anyone else. He is played all kinds of music with all kinds of musicians. I've watched him many a time try and satisfy those who think he is constantly showboating. I've been playing guitar for 41 years and I've seen pretty much everybody besides Hendrix and a few others. Joe Bonamassa is tops
I was on stage at the age of 12, I'm now 57. I've played every type music, rock, country, jazz, even poka! But my heart has always been in the blues. They say you have to live the blues to play the blues. I qualify. there is nothing better than watching a sweating player put heart and soul in the work to be done. That's why I always return to preforming the blues!!! I mean you just have to if its in you.
Love the driving force of this three piece band. These three had so much chemistry at this concert. Their sound, song selection and how tight their playing was - simply phenomenal.
His best lineup by a long shot. Was younger, and still had fire and passion. He's still amazing, but kind of lost his edge now. This was his prime. And Eric Czar..........best bassist on the planet. Check out Takin the Hit from this same show. Mind boggling bass licks.
He's criticized because he's so technically perfect and the blues are not generally played with such technical precision. He also doesn't really bring full gusto to his vocal delivery either. All that said, I love his stuff. Nobody really like him to compare to. Wish he would sing with more balls, but either you have it or you don't in that realm. This is as close to the real think as he ever got. Today, he's lost that edge he had in this era. Still great though.
Mel Harth interesting that you think he doesn't give his vocals his all...I personally dont think its the greatest blues voice but I always thought he sang with a shit load of passion, especially on this song....this was definitely Joe at his peak with the 3 piece power trio, so glad I got to see him several times back then for cheap and in small places... not the same these days although still awesome for people that have never seen him.
I watched Mr Bonamassa on Qello today. BB King , Crossroads and British Explotion. Talented and humble. I had to stop cooking and see whether it was Clapton or Bonamassa playing Pretending and Motherless Children. Bravo!!❤🌏✌
You are like a modern Mozart Joe. I know you worked HARD, and it didn't come easy, but its the Drive God put in your Heart to WANT to KNOW The Guitar. You Mastered "The Masters" and then mixed them together. Your an anomaly among Men. It's so Awesome.
Somebody please tell Joe Bonamassa that this version and this guitar are made for each other! B B King would be so proud getting so much sound and soul from every note. I felt like it was a hot summers night jam fest on the Mighty Mississip. :-)
This is insane all the way through!!!!! The wall of sound they crank out is crazy!! Best concert and lineup for Joe I’ve seen on line. Seen him many times in concert....starting at $10 at Al Rosa Villa on High Street in Columbus! Always incredible but rockpalast....wow!!
One of the best performances I've ever seen, this trio!! Live at Rockpalast is my favorite and I've been watching videos of Joe. I like the rockin of this trio better than the newer ones with more band members. I have to have this DVD. Talent is an understatement, wow!! I wish they'd reunite and come to Indiana!!
If I could go back in time, then it would be to this gig. Bonamassa was a force of nature, and the those other 2 guys! think Cream and the Experience, only in tune.
I just discovered Joe , tonight on public t.v. This guy is awsome ! Can't wait to hear more but it's late so tomorrow will have to do. Thank You !!! : )
In my opinion Joe's best days were with Eric and his best era was NDY. I wish he would have stuck with that style and augmented it over time, like SRV did with his sound.
LYRICS: Down by the river That's where I broke down and cried Down by the river That's where I lay down and died Going down to the river For as long as I can stand Mama told me "Son, " as she took a hold of my hand "Water runs so deep, Deep as all my pain, " Down by the river, honey Lord, can I be saved? I said down by the river That's where I broke down and cried I said down by the river That's where I broke down and cried I said down by the river Heartaches soaked in wine I'm just lookin' for redemption For that wanderin' soul of mine Pull me to my knees As I drown in the pouring rain Down by the river, honey I still see your face Sometimes around midnight They'd come knocking at my door I said sometimes around midnight, Hell hounds found what they're looking for Well those flashing lights told me Didn't have to say a word Someone took my baby Someone took away my world All they found was a letter I should never have let her go The river's the only witness The only one who knows And the wind whispers her name And all the lonesome years Water turns to whiskey I drown in my own tears Down by the river I see my life in flames Down by the river honey I call out your name I call out your name I call out your name
Comments leveled off at 200 , so here’s one more. See you in Santa Barbara Joe&co. Lord willing right ! Joe for President ! 1st policy , Everyone has to form a band or move to…..😅
I’m not a guitarist (classical pianist), but I really ❤ Joe’s 🎸 playing and stumbled upon this video today. Although I’m not crazy about it, I’m wondering if he’s playing ‘slide’ guitar with this song? I’m only familiar with Derek Trucks playing slide and honestly don’t think anyone can top him in THIS style - he’s in a class all by himself! Just like Joe Bonamassa is in a ‘different’ class of 🎸 playing, and one I consider the best in it❗️Can anyone who sees this please lmk if I’m right about the style of this playing, thanks?!

That was one of the best mankind's moments ever.
Good music like this is life at its best!
Best show Joe Made in His Life Filmed 🤌🏻
All my favorite versions of my favorite JB songs are from this show. He was just on that night, even more so than normal.
When "Voodoo child" meets "When the levee breaks". One of my favorite Bonamassa's performances ever.
Joe Bonamassa is the best guitarist on the planet...whether you are smart enough to realize this or not.
Joe's great but Beck might have something to say about that....
don't forget about Warren Haynes .
haha it's just a matter of taste, I like Joe but in my opinion he's doing too much guitar gimmicks, I'd rather prefer the guitar feeling of Hendrix or Clapton. But he's an incerdible guitarist anyway, love this version of The River
dalexeiblues I agree it's a matter of taste

Anyone can play the blues if they practice...you don't have to have a rough life...Joe is proof of that
@@Rockandrollgeerage True enough but if you've been through the grinder it comes a bit more naturally. Or at least some form of the blues does.
@@chriscampbell9191 I suppose every one has the blues at some point in life, heart break, losing someone to death, etc...
Love the driving force of this three piece band. These three had so much chemistry at this concert. Their sound, song selection and how tight their playing was - simply phenomenal.
mydogspet sucks Joe fired these guys...
I wish he would return to this line up.
@@chriszelez7970 INDEED!
@@chriszelez7970 Agree!
the bassman is awesome! never heard about him. eric czar. great!
Joe is beyond one of the most talented musicians in the music business
Love this song 🎶
The musically contrived contemporary pop country music scene wishes they could be this good...
Hard to believe that Joe would even play a Chandler guitar. But when you're the best guitar player in the world you can make anything sound great.....

I totally agree with you!
This is defo the best version of this on youtube. Agreed mate the bass player and drummer are tight.Prefer this to the studio version.
Totally agree. Best lineup ever.
i totally agreee
That song has incredible bass licks!
Best musician of today! So damn talented!
Absolutely, people bad mouth Joe and for the life of me I can't see or hear why? I'll put Smokin Joe up against any guitarist on the planet!!!

No auto correct , oops. Explosion.
Best Trio Ever... Period.😍🤩😎
He done went and got a mojo hand, stood at the cross roads, flew through space with Hendrix , broke the levee and everything I believe .
You are like a modern Mozart Joe. I know you worked HARD, and it didn't come easy, but its the Drive God put in your Heart to WANT to KNOW The Guitar. You Mastered "The Masters" and then mixed them together. Your an anomaly among Men. It's so Awesome.
Joe is my New Guitar Hero! Go for it, Joe! You rock!
Somebody please tell Joe Bonamassa that this version and this guitar are made for each other! B B King would be so proud getting so much sound and soul from every note. I felt like it was a hot summers night jam fest on the Mighty Mississip. :-)
This trio--Best lineup ever!!!
@@cathyr2419 Eric was a killer bass man for Joe.
Live between Detroit River and Windsor this song means a lot spend many days looking over the river 😎👍

Huge, steady build-up of tension…enormous release at 4:47. Mesmerizing!!!

Banjo?
this is a tough performance - wow!! he's a true master at work here in a trio format.
The song, "The River", Joe Bonamassa did at Rockpalast was great. A lot of feeling. The drummer put a lot of feeling into it also. Good drummer.
This is my favourite Joe's song. I can listen to this pearl 1000 times or more...:-)
Joe"The Beast" Bonamassa. Always on the top!!!!
Blues Masterclass ...
This Slide sound is FREAKIN´AWESOME

GREAT BLUES !!!
Joe is awesome! We saw him this year, I hope he tours Canada again next year because I would definitely go see him again!
Oh my...... the CHILLS & FEELS!!!
It would appear one individual pressed the 'thumbs down' in error. This is (as always) some seriously epic guitar handling.
A cooliest version of this wonderful song ! I'm really impressed ! WOW !!!
His version at the Beacon Theater is better. i think it was from 2012.
I just discovered Joe , tonight on public t.v. This guy is awsome ! Can't wait to hear more but it's late so tomorrow will have to do. Thank You !!! : )
Mesmerizing talent!! Off the grid and the planet...
This tune kicks ass!!!!!!

The BEST
LYRICS:
Down by the river
That's where I broke down and cried
Down by the river
That's where I lay down and died
Going down to the river
For as long as I can stand
Mama told me "Son, "
as she took a hold of my hand
"Water runs so deep,
Deep as all my pain, "
Down by the river, honey
Lord, can I be saved?
I said down by the river
That's where I broke down and cried
I said down by the river
That's where I broke down and cried
I said down by the river
Heartaches soaked in wine
I'm just lookin' for redemption
For that wanderin' soul of mine
Pull me to my knees
As I drown in the pouring rain
Down by the river, honey
I still see your face
Sometimes around midnight
They'd come knocking at my door
I said sometimes around midnight,
Hell hounds found what they're looking for
Well those flashing lights told me
Didn't have to say a word
Someone took my baby
Someone took away my world
All they found was a letter
I should never have let her go
The river's the only witness
The only one who knows
And the wind whispers her name
And all the lonesome years
Water turns to whiskey
I drown in my own tears
Down by the river
I see my life in flames
Down by the river honey
I call out your name
I call out your name
I call out your name
That song, Joe's talent, explain the Clarinda Nodaway River. Love ♡
