Bonamassa changed my life with this video of slide and Mountain Time on Rockpalast 17 years ago. It has been a joy ever since. KEEP THE BLUES ALIVE AND BRING BACK "The Music of the 60s and 70s.... Long live Classic Rock so we can Honor Hendrix and Clapton and give Back to BB King, Buddy Guy, Freddie and Albert King to Where it all started Robert Johnson at the Crossroad!!!!!! Long live the BLUES!!!!!!

haha it's just a matter of taste, I like Joe but in my opinion he's doing too much guitar gimmicks, I'd rather prefer the guitar feeling of Hendrix or Clapton. But he's an incerdible guitarist anyway, love this version of The River

dalexeiblues he is playing beyond the capabilities of anyone else. He is played all kinds of music with all kinds of musicians. I've watched him many a time try and satisfy those who think he is constantly showboating. I've been playing guitar for 41 years and I've seen pretty much everybody besides Hendrix and a few others. Joe Bonamassa is tops

This is insane all the way through!!!!! The wall of sound they crank out is crazy!! Best concert and lineup for Joe I’ve seen on line. Seen him many times in concert....starting at $10 at Al Rosa Villa on High Street in Columbus! Always incredible but rockpalast....wow!!
Somebody please tell Joe Bonamassa that this version and this guitar are made for each other! B B King would be so proud getting so much sound and soul from every note. I felt like it was a hot summers night jam fest on the Mighty Mississip. :-)

I was on stage at the age of 12, I'm now 57. I've played every type music, rock, country, jazz, even poka! But my heart has always been in the blues. They say you have to live the blues to play the blues. I qualify. there is nothing better than watching a sweating player put heart and soul in the work to be done. That's why I always return to preforming the blues!!! I mean you just have to if its in you.
Anyone can play the blues if they practice...you don't have to have a rough life...Joe is proof of that

Absolutely, people bad mouth Joe and for the life of me I can't see or hear why? I'll put Smokin Joe up against any guitarist on the planet!!!
He's criticized because he's so technically perfect and the blues are not generally played with such technical precision. He also doesn't really bring full gusto to his vocal delivery either. All that said, I love his stuff. Nobody really like him to compare to. Wish he would sing with more balls, but either you have it or you don't in that realm. This is as close to the real think as he ever got. Today, he's lost that edge he had in this era. Still great though.
Mel Harth interesting that you think he doesn't give his vocals his all...I personally dont think its the greatest blues voice but I always thought he sang with a shit load of passion, especially on this song....this was definitely Joe at his peak with the 3 piece power trio, so glad I got to see him several times back then for cheap and in small places... not the same these days although still awesome for people that have never seen him.
Two words sum up my feelings when I hear this tune: Badass blues!

I watched Mr Bonamassa on Qello today. BB King , Crossroads and British Explotion. Talented and humble. I had to stop cooking and see whether it was Clapton or Bonamassa playing Pretending and Motherless Children. Bravo!!❤🌏✌

One of the best performances I've ever seen, this trio!! Live at Rockpalast is my favorite and I've been watching videos of Joe. I like the rockin of this trio better than the newer ones with more band members. I have to have this DVD. Talent is an understatement, wow!! I wish they'd reunite and come to Indiana!!

His best lineup by a long shot. Was younger, and still had fire and passion. He's still amazing, but kind of lost his edge now. This was his prime. And Eric Czar..........best bassist on the planet. Check out Takin the Hit from this same show. Mind boggling bass licks.

I’m not a guitarist (classical pianist), but I really ❤ Joe’s 🎸 playing and stumbled upon this video today. Although I’m not crazy about it, I’m wondering if he’s playing ‘slide’ guitar with this song? I’m only familiar with Derek Trucks playing slide and honestly don’t think anyone can top him in THIS style - he’s in a class all by himself! Just like Joe Bonamassa is in a ‘different’ class of 🎸 playing, and one I consider the best in it❗️Can anyone who sees this please lmk if I’m right about the style of this playing, thanks?!
