He is a great player & performer , now go listen to Mike Bloomfield . Seriously the man everyone holds in the highest regards as the best though we that play only have favorites as there is no such thing as the best ever. Even Joe would agree & certainly about the greatness of Mike Bloomfield .
Sharon, you said the exact same thing I've been saying for years. He leaves it all out there night after night. I'm old enough to be Joe's daddy and he's literally my guitar hero. I've been playing Blues for 50 years. I'm in complete awe of Joe. Not only his playing, but his humility. He's just a total class act. Cheers

So....was Eric Clapton just that much better than everyone at that time (except Hendrix)? I've heard 103 guitarists play this version of Crossroads and NO ONE sounds anywhere near as clear and confident as Clapton sounded in 67/68. All these guys are hero worshipping Clapton and Hendrix to obsession....for decades! Imagine what Bonamassa could do if he found his OWN NOTES!. Imagine how great SRV could have been if he found his OWN NOTES. Both phenomenal players without question but they just played the same LICKS night after night. Clapton was the same but his phrasing was far superior to with if these guys...again Hendrix is miles above them all to ME because he mostly played melodies not LICKS. INNOVATION NOT IMITATION IS THE TRUE MARK OF GENIUS.

Did not rehearse it for one second while all the other contestants were playing his solos note for note. I won! And just made up the entire thing on the spot. Got to agree. Considering Eric did this in 1968, aged 23, and Joe does a good version 50 odd years later, you’ve got to say Slowhand nailed it.
The only other song I know that starts off this fast is "Going Home" by Ten Years After.
