Never thought I’d see a MK3 on this amazing track! I had a pretty built MK3 and I miss it! Mine was a 7mge-t , same engine as this car but converted to turbo, gets a little more torque than the 7mgte. Engine was over bored with upgraded rods and cams . It would idle so smoothly sometimes you could barely tell the car was turned on. You can make these cars surprisingly fast with the right mods. If you put the lexus AFM which gives 25% more air , then upgrade to 550 cc injectors, wideband , rebuild the ct26 with garret internals, upgrade intercooler and in and out. Then tune it of course and this car is a demon! I beat alot of 1j owners and many other fast vehicles. I also had tein suspension, brembo brakes, advan rims, and other small stuff like bushings what not. It handles well but it is very heavy and really isn’t t meant for touge or circuit. My old MK3 was a hoot and it was a Dream spec - 1989 3L turbo, manual, targa. However, in standard form, a shocking track car 😄 Heavy, tail-happy, not very well balanced....it would have required so much work to get it good on the track. But it had amazing presence on the road, people used to ask me all the time what it was, club meets were fun and so was my fuel bill anytime you went on a long drive LOL. Ultra reliable too, couldn't beat that aspect of it. You couldn't ever break the gearbox, super heavy duty tail shafts etc, great steering and the interior had all the awesome 80's trinkets.
Beautiful car and the perfect owner. Nice to see some older not hardly modified cars also enjoy the track as well. Really need to make the trip to the nordschleife soon.
Thanks God someone explained to uncle Misha how VVT-i works ❤, we need those 90’s - 2000’s Toyota with twin can engines on the channel because we had to much Vtec
First engine with vvti was 2jz. This is just ACIS (Acoustic Control Induction System), a method of controlling air compression pulses inside the intake piping to increase power
4:19 It's a variable intake runner flap, that help flow dynamics from low to high. Later in 88 the Turbo variant ditched that and came with dual fuel pressure system that also had twin stage injectors with small nozzles for low RPM and opened the larger nozzles for higher RPM/fuel pressure (think it was 3600rpms). The Turbo model got oddly good MPG, i was getting about 27 with mixed driving and over 30 on the highway while road tripping. As long as you stayed under said RPM it was sipping on fuel I had a 89 and then a 86.5 (the first Supra's were released at a half year mark) which i swapped all the intirror which was nearly perfect (seats, liners, trim, carpet, the whole dash, all of it), engine, and other things from the 89. The 89 was a rust bucket and the rear shock towers where rusted through, only had it for half a year before i found the 86.5. Then another half year later the bumper was damaged and at the junk yard i found a 88 Turbo (70K miles) that just got there, i was going to take the bumper off it then i started realizing how complete the car was and i bought it from the junkyard with a salvage title for $1400 (i did a compression test in the yard). Still my favorite car, gunmetal gray, fully loaded hard top (the Tagra top is a sloppy pig). Came with a gray leather interior that was falling apart and again.. moved the whole interior to the 88. I was 19 at the time But i went full ham on the 88T, first i started investigating why it wasn't throwing spark. Hired a guy to diagnose the electrical (first and last time i ever hired anyone to diagnose one of my cars) and did gave me some BS that i said thanks to and paid him to leave. He wasn't load testing any of the wiring, turns out the CPS was on by a single strand of wire so i simply reterminated the connector and the car turned on! (later installed a whole new hardness) and fixed a whole mess of intake leaks and other things. I then swapped all the good suspension parts from the 86 and got some new to make it handle like new. Redid everything with the brakes as this 3800 pound car needed to stop much more now as it picked up much more speed. Got race compound pads and stock rotors, DOT 4 (new at the time), etc.. with a proper alignment from a local guru and some very sticky 245 tires on stock rims it pulled your face right off when you hit the brakes. Then i switched to 92 Supra springs, which they switched back to the original Lotus designed ones because when the MK3 Supra first got reviewed it got very bad reviews on how hard the suspension was so they raised it about 3/4 inch and made the springs softer. After that the car drove like it was on rails, completely fixing the horrible body roll they were known for. Ohh and also tor down the whole engine after a few months because it got a minor blown head gasket, installed a revised OEM gasket, oil pump shim, and head studs (NOT over tightened, that was just to prevent walk out). I didn't machine the head or anything, just cleaned it very well and checked for cracks by running my nail everywhere and retorqued the head after a week of driving lol. Lasted me 7 years, until i sold it fully intact and happy with 176K miles. Tons of minor mods to the intake/exhaust etc, mostly stock, and hitting MAF limit. Guessing it was at about 320rwhp as it was definitely faster than a 4th gen Camaro SS with full exhaust, a (new at the time) 05 Mustang GT, and Much faster than my buddys new 350Z. Stock turbo and manifold are shockingly good after the many small mods i made, there was virtually no lag above 4800 rpm, and the 88 apparently had a higher rev limiter because i (accidently) found out one day that it revved up to 7200 and made power all the way there. Unless the previous owner did something to the stock ECU. Jesus, i seriously think i might remember every nut and bolt on the car. Horribly underrated car because you can't tune them, the ECU is hard coded and most people used piggy back systems that made it run like garbage. Usually causing knock etc. There were a bunch of guys back in the day that daily'd stock blocks and heads with 600-700hp and it could take up to 850hp. Two flaws, oil pressure and the stock head studs walked out with temp cycling. Keyboard diarrhea, hope it doesn't read like that haha

@@rushnerd my first mk3 was a 89 n/a auto, I wasn't getting bad gas on it at all on mine. If the fuel pressure regulator is just slightly fluctuating it'll ruin your mpg and throttle response. Something I did too was relax the MAF door spring to get better throttle response. I also put good wires and rotor cap with OEM plugs, but plane copper will always work better and you can gap them more for a better burn. The computer manages timing despite having a cap, so the only thing that would be making the timing off is the timing belt being stretched or skipped a tooth.

This was my first car, a 1989 Supra Turbo with the 5-speed manual and targa top. I definitely shouldn't have had that car at 17 years old haha. Not enough of them sold though, no matter which market. They were expensive, heavy, thirsty....but an awesome GT car of its time. Think of the Skylines available at the time also, they were a great alternative if you weren't sure about a Supra. Plus Toyota was also selling the Soarer which was almost the same car, still trying to work that out.
The combination of the drive and the conversation is reallly fantastic as a source of information. Im using your channel to decide which will be my next project car. Great stuff! Thx
It does sound very nice for sure!! It looked stable really,at the speeds misha drove it at. Seemed reserved and as the lap went on braking questions came up with good reason. Good safe lap Misha
Got two of them stored on my property, they belong to my son, one is a turbo the other is not. He bought the turbo car when he was 14 years old, since then he has changed the suspension, brakes, and other things performance related, a couple years ago I taught him how to do any body work needed and how to paint it, when the turbo 7m finally expires, there's a LS v8 in the corner waiting to go in, it's still fairly sudden even at its high mileage.
I think that you have pointed it out in the video a couple of times - this car is obviously a grand tourer but what a fantastic one, throughout the video I have heard like only one strange noise but apart from that - I think this car is really made for those beautiful sceneries and perfect roads, when you do not drive that fast, while enjoying the scenery and that sound of that engine, it has a really nice relaxed gurgle, I mean one just has to love inline sixes. ANd honestly the MK3 is so fucking amazing looking car.
That car sounds relaxing. It reminds me of Falcore the Luck Dragon from never ending story because of it's deep soothing voice. I'd love to cruise down the motorway in that.
Crazy to think about back then when I had a 1991 MK3 with the 7M-GTE and 5 speed manual. Installed a 3" catless downpipe and that definitely woke the engine up!
@user-nr5rc3sw3r back then police didn't know what a catless downpipe was. And I still left the secondary cat installed, just welded new (bigger) flange to make it fit the downpipe
I put some new rotors on my Camaro and went to Miami/Homestead Raceway for a track day. I had a "judder" issue from the brakes as well. Turns out, after finding ".000" runout in the rotors cold, that when hot, the way they weld the two halves of the ducted rotor didn't melt together correctly and, when heated up, the two halves split apart. This caused the judder. Took a while to figure that out since they were brand new rotors. When they "forge welded" the two pieces together, something wasn't right.
Same car as my first car, colour and N/a , absolute tank! 1730kgs on the weigh bridge 😂 sadly they are not a sports car, the Turbo A and Jza70 models were lighter and had alot of improvements, I have a Jza70 TTL and it feels a decade newer. If you want a capable sports car with similar looks the the mk2 or ma60 series XX celica/Supra + Uz or Jz despite more basic suspension is a much better track car, better balanced and lighter, these are highway crushers and need big power to really bring them to life. God bless this kid I hope the car treats him well.
I had an 86.5 MKIII supra like this one, the previous owner had Graphix all over, "custom" interior,🤣, automatic, but it has multiple factory shift point adjustment buttons, Power and Economy, Normal and Sport Shift, and push button overdrive, If you went Power, Sport, Overdrive off, it wouldn't shift until redline, fun with it's rear independent suspension and factory wide tires on factory magnesium alloy wheels.
I did PDIs on some of these supras during my work experience at hight school at 15 years old, it was at a Toyota dealership so I got to have a rip in quite a few twin turbos and new MR2s also. 1988 was cool
Cool car, this car is from before 1-1-1988 so road tax is 120 Euro's a year and insurance roughly likewise. When more than 40 years (petrol) road tax free, diesel engines when 50 years. Also applies for busses, trucks, etc.
MK3 is my fav Supra, like how they ride/sound/look and fun too. a mate had one, in black 3.0 gt turbo more than enough for the road, fastest my mate driven me in was 150mph and info i can find top speed Toyota say 152mph but how well it blasted down the duel carriageway between just before Wrexham and to Chester, fastest trip i ever had down that road, mate was a mad foot to floor or emergency stop little in between so only had few trip out in his supra one was running from cops, car was top spec leather buckets even the rear buckets were great very comfy and hold you well just as good as front seats, and the 3.0 gt turbo it went very well too. not many that spec left sadly and the one my mate had the fool killed it 90 mph on ice single track country road could not stop head on crash . the days with few speed cameras were lots fun gotta be 20 years ago or getting close. £10-38 k ive seen them at current, 20 years ago my mate got is special spec think only made a certain amount 3.0 gt turbo his was £1500 when he got it, crazy prices now sadly
The gearing is similar for a lot of cars from that era with the power to pull it. Mostly because testers (usually Americans) would run them to 60mph then 100mph if they were capable so usually 2nd gear will go just over 60mph and third just over 100mph. First was to make it usable around town, 4th was usually the top speed gear and 5th a cruising gear.
MK3 Supra's also came with the 7M-GTE, which is the 3.0L inline 6 with single turbo, which is extremely underrated but gaining popularity in recent years as more people learn about it. Also because 2JZ's are being put in everything so the supply is low and they've become quite expensive. Very good engine once the headgasket torque spec is done correctly. Love mine, sounds incredible and has oodles of torque. 😃 Also it's as heavy as E46 M3. My friend has the M3 and I have the MK3 and we compared gross vehicle weight on the door stickers. So it's not as bad as people think.
Hi Misha, I have been following you for about 1 month now but I have seen many of your videos. Older cars, newer cars, brand new cars. Once upon a time, my favorite car was a BMW but since 2000 I have been drawn to Honda and Toyota for a daily use and personal vehicle use, since they last longer and fewer maintenance. Since I have been watching you I have seen Porche and Merc and BMW that are a lot of fun and even though that H. and T. can last longer, German cars are really capable. I was even surprised of the not so good performance of the Nissan GTR, I did expect better run from it. At least 270 km/h on the fast part of the track, only Porsche and one of the Merc did it. I have not see a Nissan Z on the track and the Newer Supra, before the BMW/Supra I mean. Thanks for your efforts very, very entertaining. Watching you with interest and anticipation.
This is actually my favorite Supra. The 7M was notorious for blowing head gaskets since it was undertorqued from factory. It came with the 1GGTE and 1JZGTE in Japan from factory in the later years. USDM had the 7M and 7MGTE. I had a 91 Cressida with a 1JZ which was essentially a 4 door Supra
1GGTE engine and 7MGE were ridiculously under-powered for this car. We're talking about 1.5 tonne here. 1JZ or 7MGTE (with head torqued properly) were by far the best engines in this car due to decent cc capacity and turbo. The torque was incredible, I used to just enjoy mine in 3rd gear everywhere LOL.
@@sayerma before i jz swapped my Cressida, the 7M was a dog below 2.5 rpm, but had really great throttle response. Not a fast car and yes underpowered, but it made you drive the piss out of it which was fun! Sounded good too.
Mk III are very cool cars and you can still find them for a decent price Imo when they start asking for more than 5k on a car that is tue 3rd owner it is time to look for a different used car. These, RX8, the 1st gen RX7, and 350z and 370z are all still pretty affordable So are mitsubishi starions if you can find them

So are car lovers born. Enjoy this supra and make it how you want. It can take quite a while, but keep your focus and it wil finish. Good luck with the build and enjoy the journey.
Mooi, een meegroei auto. En dan de eco- en powerlampjes in de toerenteller, helemaal jaren 80.
The MK3 Supra is underrated, one of the best JDMs
In my opinion their my favourite Supra im not a big fan of the Mk4
i kind of wish it was more underrated than it is, then i could have one.
Thankfully it was not JDM only. US and Europe still have some out there in good shape. Such a unique, recognizable sound.
@@loathing138 my dad owned one so i might be a little biased but it was an animal he got 178mph outta it cant forget the coochie cooler 3000 under the steering wheel 😂😂
Soul lifting vlog. With the intro itself it related me with the story… 🥂
The combination of the drive and the conversation is reallly fantastic as a source of information. Im using your channel to decide which will be my next project car. Great stuff! Thx
Personally like the look of the mk3 supra over the mk4. mk3 supra with 2jz would be very nice.
It has very nice proportions and looks really great in person. My neighbor had one for a long time and i would always notice it parked on the street.
Same, that's why I just bought one XD
Love that the MKIII is getting some love. Given how this kid enjoys the car, his head is in the right place.
Mk3 Supra is underrated but I love it, this is a car that worth fixing up & driving!
Wowww beautiful car, nice to see a young man into old skool cars. Great vid
It's incredible to see this legendary car still taking on the track with such an ease after 40 years. Respect! 🏁🚗
Seems like a nice kid, and he has a sweet car.
That car sounds relaxing. It reminds me of Falcore the Luck Dragon from never ending story because of it's deep soothing voice. I'd love to cruise down the motorway in that.
N/A straight 6 engines always sound phenomenal. It doesn’t matter if it’s US, Japanese or European. It always sounds good.
the turbo model was also my first car. Parts were difficult to source even back 20 years ago... i still miss it to this day.
Crazy to think about back then when I had a 1991 MK3 with the 7M-GTE and 5 speed manual. Installed a 3" catless downpipe and that definitely woke the engine up!
Police was ok?

When they "forge welded" the two pieces together, something wasn't right.
ooooh finally!
got one myself 9 years ago and still love it
This is probably my dream car at this point, it has so much character
What a lovely car. I love to see the young folks have passion for the classics.
High schooler? Bro looks 30 💀
Never too late to educate yourself....
He’s just tired 😂
Average Netflix high schooler
Beautiful car in my opinion i prefer this to any other supras especially with a 1jz
My dad owned one in this exact colour when I was a young boy. I felt like I was in KITT from Knight Rider 😂
Sweet! I have a NA 7MGE in swapped in my mk2 Supra. It's around 300kgs lighter than the Mk3. Makes a big difference.
Funny you all still call roads Carriageway's , I don't think you see many Carriages anymore.
i love the fact our Misha handels this fine Kar with a lot off respect.
This was always my favorite Supra. Best starter car in Gran Turismo :D But I liked it even before that.
Also it's as heavy as E46 M3. My friend has the M3 and I have the MK3 and we compared gross vehicle weight on the door stickers. So it's not as bad as people think.
Also I wish I saw this video earlier when it released. I never received notification for this one. 🤔🤨
I have a 1JZ-GTE MK3 Supra, this video made me open it instantly 😊❤
Ahh the good old 7M-GE.. had one of these in a Cressida.
Omg the sound, its like GranTurismo 2 R34 sound. So good
Hi Misha, I have been following you for about 1 month now but I have seen many of your videos. Watching you with interest and anticipation.
no not that quick but what an amazing sound!
Great choice of rims imo. Love white five spokes
My buddy had this exact car, man so much nostalgia 🙌
Always loved the Gen 3 Supra. Beautiful car.
It's amazing how Misha is going ultra smooth, but still driving pretty fast with this old lady :)
These also came with TEMS, which was a really a nice thing back then.
The sound is amazing!!!
For me it's one of the best videos on the channel
Sounded good too.
eargasmic sound of Supra MK3, yes!
anyone who played grand turismo 2 remembers this car :D
i could listen to you two all day to be honest.
This back in the day was a very quick car then they turbocharged it mind blown ,now here we are today at a totally other level
Wow Ashton Kutcher knows a lot about oldtimers 😁
Lovely sound! I'd keep that engine in personally 😁
I love the mk3!
Really nice! I've always loved the style of these earlier cars!!!!!!
People sleep on the 7M GTE apart from the original head gasket its a well designed engine capable of big power
Man I had a 1986 7mge Supra as my first car as well. I miss it everyday! To the owner: Don't ever sell it!
I'm a high schooler without a licence fixing up a first gen bmw mini! Will have to go to the Nurburgring once i get my licence:D
Great story and good looking car! For the first part of the video, I thought the track was completely empty!
Toyota for life, no cooling issues
Lol the sound is spot on Gran Turismo 2 :D
Nice, humble young man.
Mk III are very cool cars and you can still find them for a decent price
Imo when they start asking for more than 5k on a car that is tue 3rd owner it is time to look for a different used car. These, RX8, the 1st gen RX7, and 350z and 370z are all still pretty affordable
So are mitsubishi starions if you can find them
I used to drive one back then...with lots of HP. Back then, in Gran Turismo 1😅 Like the color!
130 mph at one point, not bad for a 40 year old car!
Gt7 got the sound on this car perfect.
Awesome car and awesome story! Love to see it ❤
I LOVE this Supra!
My dream is to see Misha drive a MK2 Supra on the Nurburgring.
Straight sixes are THE BEST sounding engines and nothing can't change my mind on that.
That first gear change though 👀😂
Mk3 Supra is the best looking one imo
hey thats the supra i passed on the autobahn the way to the ring :) greetings from the purple Silvia
OMG the A70! Personally the best looking Supra in my point of view, I'm probably getting bashed by the A80 fans out there but sorry I'm more of a Nissan guy but I personally like the looks of this car more. 😂
Beautiful car in my opinion i prefer this to any other supras especially with a 1jz
I love my MK3. 7MGTE turbo.
loved this, need to see the a80 now!
The economy lights still work, Toyota reliability.
My dad had one when I was small like 20 years ago wish he keep it
Love the sound 👍
It's called Acoustic Control Induction System or ACIS.
Misha I would love to see a toyota celica Gt4 specifically the 1998 version which looks like a baby awd supra
I see them a lot on auctions pretty cheap and in the future, I will get one and then swap a 1jz gte with a 2jz-gte block 😮💨
